Hipstamatic® for Positive User Reviews

Best Camera App (no best app period)Long time fan of Hipstamatic as it’s helped me fall in love again with photography by making it a daily habit of taking a photo. The added social network is a welcomed bonus. Who needs other photo apps when you can have so much fun with Hipstamatic film and lenses..Version: 9.0.4

Missing one key componentI love this app almost as much as the original. I wish you could add the ability to rotate the camera in any direction so that you can shoot with the volume buttons on top instead of on the bottom of the phone, similar to the original app..Version: 7.2

Nearly perfect!I’ve been a Hipstamatic user since the beginning, and I adore this new version. It really brings back the simplicity and surprise. My only complaint is the annoying marketing text inserted when sharing photos via Messages. I share a lot of photos via Messages, which means I waste a lot of time selecting and deleting that text every single time. My friends already know I use and love Hipstamatic, so I have no need to send them cheesy ads. Only other small quibble is that the Get Help feature has been broken since day 1. Other than that, this is a top-shelf app and has already won a permanent place on my dock..Version: 3

Best app I’ve ever downloadedI think the original photo app was genius and now with the new social features I’m blown away. Thank you developers! I’m star struck ⭐️🌟🤩✨⭐️.Version: 9.1

Loving the artsy aesthetic of its interfaceI love it! But I somehow want to have stacks/albums instead of the shots combined altogether at “recent posts”. Maybe you should categorize it by months or years or both just saying… But all in all I love it the simplicity this is way healthier than the Instagram & other mainstream social medias.Version: 9.2

A great return to formWhat better way to celebrate the ten years (I feel old) that I’ve been using Hipstamatic, than to double down on the thing that made it so great to begin with. The analog feel. Also a great gesture to carry over purchases from the last ten years, to this new app 👌.Version: 1.1

Hipstamatic is the most fun 🤩 Camera 📸 App on iOS!!!Hipstamatic is the most fun 🤩 Camera 📸 App on iOS!!! All the film 🎞️, camera 📷 and lenses will have your phone taking photos better than your film 🎥 camera 📸 ever could!!!!.Version: 9.1.1

Hipstamatic X Good start!!!I’ve been a fan of the classic since day 1 and have bought just about every lens and film combos that has ever come out. I wish this camera would fill my whole screen like the classic does on my IPhone XS Max but it’s not a deal breaker. This app has promise and that’s why it was a no brainer to purchase the lifetime membership when I did. I need to spend more time with to understand it better. One thing I noticed is that if I’m looking at images on the classic app it doesn’t recognize what what Len and film combo was used. I also can’t see what was used when I use the random camera on this app which is my favorite feature because I could save it to a camera I like. Hopefully it will come in an update soon. #Hipstamatic4life.Version: 1.2

So glad to see this make a comebackI haven’t used Hipstamatic since 2012 or so, but I’m enjoying this new version a lot. Feels like a return to the early days of social media, when things were more casual and… calming. Absolutely love the passport and the stamps—I hope they keep adding more for various locations, national parks, etc. to encourage getting out more. I’m also enjoying all the various combinations of lenses and films, it’s just a lot of fun to experiment with. The only thing that I would definitely ask to change is the “photos disappear after 30 days” aspect. I understand the value of that, but I wish it was an option..Version: 9.0.1

It’s good but I don’t know why!I have used Hipstamatic from the start and love it, bought all the films & lenses. I don’t really understand why this app even exists. It seems it’s lost the idea of point n shoot, in Hipstamatic you choose a film & lens then shoot simple and it works. The new X version you have to choose a body, scroll through a catalogue (with text you can’t even read because it’s white text on a light background) for your film and do the same for your lens, you then have to save it with a custom name, all that before you can use it. So basically you are creating custom cameras every time you want to change a film or your lens. The Subscription! £200 really? This is where you have failed your loyal uses. You have survived 10 years without having to do this. Yes I was given the option to get a lifetime subscription for £29 so I jump at it because I wasn’t going to pay £200 for it. I will probably take more shots with the original app than this. I do think your time would have better been spent rewriting the code for the original app than creating a new app..Version: 1.1

Been a fan since 2010I love the whole Hipstamatic thing and its people. And if ever there was a “social” network that I’d like to be a part of it…well this is it… Try it and have fun and let your inner photographer come out in a supportive forum.Version: 9.1.1

Longtime fan & userI love Hipstamatic X, and I loved Hipstamatic before it. As someone who made his bones in the analog camera days, the dirtiness and artifacts that we can bring to the image are fantastic. I've made lens and filter and paper combinations that remind me of papers and processes I used to use, and I will label custom combos to reflect it. I could go on and on. This is one of the photos/photo editing apps that has lasted at least 10 years in my toolbox, unlike many other photo apps which showed their limitations to me much sooner and were cut from rotation. I have *one request* though for the makers. It's the only request I've thought to make and all these years of using their apps. Sometimes I just want to save a photo, after filters have been applied etc., but it's like *five clicks* to simply save it to my camera roll. That's way too many. Is it possible, once we finish editing a photo, to get an option to simply save it directly to our camera roll? To save it and bypass the "next" and "share online" and so on? Really, go through the process and take a look at how many clicks it takes just to save a photo to the camera roll. Oof. Now imagine editing five photos and wanting to save them to the camera roll. That's a whole lot of extra time & clicks that really don't need to be spent! Thanks again for your work!.Version: 8.3

My favorite camera app.I love this app, the original, bought all the films, and now am a lifetime member of Hipstamatic X. My all time favorite camera app ever is the classic for when I have a non-moving scene, however Hipstamatic X is great for when you need to just tap the camera, point, then click. Both apps are equally beautiful in design and simplified for even someone of my experience to use. I just wish they brought in flash effects into Hipstamatic X, then I could just have one camera app..Version: 2.2

Sticking my neck outOk, some folks may feel I’m a fool but I’m going to say it anyways: I’m really enjoying this interface for actually finding good combinations. With the Hipstamatic Classic, although much more robust in a granular sense for editing photos (editing as in proper editing: brightness, blackooint, contrast etc and cropping), I did find it super slow and cumbersome to search through my lenses and films and find good combos. This X UI has a much quicker method of selecting gear and is easier to see the film and lens effect as you go. Using the gear selection screens or the catalog (surprisingly helpful and fast, the way I primarily search and select items) was much faster and less painful “editing” than classic. Overall it’s Hipstamatic and all it’s gear, simplified and enjoyable UI for more “in the moment” photo taking. All my gear transferred over no problem and I also bit the bullet and got the opening week lifetime subscription as I want to support their hard work (buggy and messy at times throughout their app history lol) and also I only had about half their entire gear library and wanted it all now and going forward. One thought: club members should be able to unlock the granular editing if desired and if not then backward compatibility of gear from X to classic would be appreciated. I’d love to be able to edit my Mirrorless SLR high resolution photos with Hipstamatic gear..Version: 1.2

Super fun appI’ve used the original Hipstamatic for years, and this is such a fun new take. From the tutorial to customizing cameras on the shelf, the full experience of using the app is delightful! I have been running into issues where most films that have frames (as noted in the catalog) don’t show one after processing. This wasn’t the case when I first installed the app, and I can’t find a setting, so I’m assuming it’s a bug. I’ll be keeping an eye out for an update!.Version: 3

Simply amazing and fun!Ok, I’m a professional and using this app for everyday creative photography has me mothballing my DSLR and mirrorless cameras. It’s fun, quick and seamless for a iPhone. I worked for a major camera company for years and advised engineers to partner or license this for professional and consumer cameras. Apps like this gives me a another reason to use an iPhone over a camera..Version: 1.2

Photography is funHipstamatic enables this non-photographer to take happy, non-consequential pictures, apply a variety of filters and effects, and share the result. Options abound, usability is excellent, look and feel delight. And it’s fun..Version: 9.0.1

Just bought Life Time MembershipJust got the new app. Looks pretty good, fairly streamlined. Is there a way to edit the photo without using a predetermined look that the app suggests? Also, I am not noticing the ability to take double exposure pics. That was/is my favorite part of the original Hipstamatic app. That was originally something I purchased, will that feature be available in this new app ( or is it already there and I don’t know where to find it?). Update: I read the help article and look forward to future updates. Currently the app is crashing everytime I try and take a pic..Version: 1.2

Needed Help-To save “new copies” without…Needed Help-To save “new copies of edited photos” without modifying the original. Please help me to solve this issue/confusion. Note: I regularly update my review/rating for this application..Version: 8.5

Missing location in EXIFI used the origin Hipstamatic for years and have bought many lens and films in it🤩 the new app is awesome but two things: 1, no location after shooting the photo in EXIF; 2, when edit photos I cannot choose the camera combination I just created. Hope there’s an update to solve these issues....Version: 2.3

Great except for one major flawPlease give us the option to delete or remove films from the random camera! There’s nothing worse than snapping a bunch of pics only to discover they’ve all got “happy holidays” plastered across them. Other than that it’s simply the best retro camera app out there..Version: 7.3

So much fun and great supportI’ve tried many different photo editors, filter apps, and camera apps on iOS, but nothing compares to Hipstamatic for the sheer number of options. I like being able to customize the look and play around with different options. Maybe it’s because I’m a tinkerer at heart. Even if you’re not, it’s easy to find creative looks and save them to reuse later. I just keep coming back to try different things. Their support is also worth mentioning. I had a couple of questions that they quickly answered. (One turned out to be an App Store issue, but they didn’t just brush me off.) It would be nice to get quick, helpful support like this from every developer..Version: 3

Great app, better service! The app is fun to use and inspires me to play around with my camera. Have been with Hipstamatic and Öggl for years. Whenever I have a question or problem, I get fast and friendly response. As to the app itself, it’s an adjustment from earlier apps because choosing and shooting are a bit more organized. It seemed limiting at first but I find now that it allows me to more easily preview and recall a large number of presets as opposed to earlier Hipstamatic and Öggl apps..Version: 3.1

Fun but frustratingly unstableThe photo output is lovely: fun, creative, and surprising. The app itself: crashes multiple times in a session, doesn’t seem to quite fit the latest iPhones and has many UI layout problems. At many points it’s unintuitive and inconsistent and there are many quality of life improvements that would rate this higher. 3 stars for the app, 5 stars for photography.Version: 9.0

Love It - But Crashes So Much!I’ve been using the Hipstamatic apps for years, and I’m a paid subscriber. This is normally a five-star app but ever since I started using this with the new iPhone 13 Pro Max, it crashes all the time. All…the…time. I blew my 170 day streak last week because the app wouldn’t let me take a picture. There are probably children here, so I won’t swear, but I was livid. Still upset. The app hasn’t been updated in four months. I’ve had my phone for two months. This means that Hipstamatic X hasn’t been updated for the latest iOS or the latest phones. Super annoying. Super crashy. Please fix this! You have no idea how upset I am that I lost my huge streak due to a technical issue. It’s demoralizing. 😿.Version: 8

But why??Long time fan of the original app and use it every time I go back to IOS. Have been using the new app and love it too but why did you have to go to a subscription based service?!? I would prefer to pay for combos/lens/films I would use other than paying a monthly fee for stuff I probably won’t use. Still love your work and use both Hipstamatic apps almost daily.Version: 1.2

The best everI’m exactly the film camera people. Now I don’t have to use my film camera because I got this in my phone which is amazing. Love it..Version: 1.2

UpdateI love the new update I love being able to share and connect with other photographers. But the limitation to only square photos is a little frustrating especially because in the app I have multiple different training options I would like to be able to share 16 x 9 or 4:3 and so on. Maybe there is a reason for only allowing squares. What if there was no legitimate reason for only allowing squares please allow the other aspect ratios..Version: 9.0

IPhone 14 Pro MaxThank you for fixing the bug the app works great now!! Hooray!.Version: 8.6

Excellent now you can editI got a cheap deal on lifetime membership when this first came out. With the new darkroom feature it was worth it. I can use all the hipstamatic gear on all my pics mixing, matching and tweaking to get just the look I want or, as is the beauty with hipstamatic, the amazing look I never even imagined..Version: 6

AWSOMEWhat can I say, I fell in love with Hipstamatic more than 10 years ago and the love affair continues. The latest version, originally HipstamaticX, has surpassed its predecessors by far and the inbuilt social media along with the fabulous filters and edits makes it a creatives one stop shop.Version: 9.1

Changed my mind.I didn’t like it at first but the new design is actually much more user friendly when you get your head around it. The subscription model may seem exspensive but they have a special on this week for existing hipstamatic users to get full lifetime membership for £28. Think about it. Every Hipstapak and update will be yours for the rest of your life or at least the apps life. While I have quite a collection in the original app, I can now access everything I didn’t have and everything that will be released in the future. Pretty cool really..Version: 1.1

Almost perfect!Great effects, the application is fun but: - No 48mp - No png or tiff.Version: 9.0.4

The social part is actually really, really goodOriginally I thought it was kind of stupid and wanted just a retro camera. But it's pretty cool to keep your own stack of photos and have a tiny profile that holds everything. It's like a storage box of all your stuff. The textures and font and colors and everything else about the app is great, too. I love the way it's organized. Don't change the layout anytime soon..Version: 9.2.1

Classic's photo roll is betterThere are some really great usability improvements over Hipstamatic Classic but viewing your photos is not one of them. The seemless grid view of Classic may just be my personal preference, but the single photo seemless "tape" view is so much more interesting and exciting than the uninspired single photo view of Hipstamatic X. Some settings like RAW shooting seem to be missing. Hopefully updates will bring X up to bring a worthy successor to an awesome original camera app..Version: 3

Can’t edit photos on iOS 16Hi guys, been using Hipstamatic classic since it was first released and also Hipstamatic x since it was first released. It looks like iOS 16 doesn’t agree with Hipstamatic x….photos are not able to be edited. Just letting you know. 👍🏼 other than that I looove the app..Version: 8.5

Superbly retro and useable, but only at a priceGreat features and functionality, but all the best parts behind a paywall. Standard Hipstamatic gives the same functionality for free, but all the best features of X are only available to ‘Club’ members, after paying a hefty fee..Version: 6

My number one photo appEveryone should try assembling a camera in this app. It is so much fun, makes you fall in love with photography..Version: 9.0

Hipstamatic, ImprovedI’ve been using the regular Hipstamatic app since they launched many, many years ago. I’ve been an avid user of their app ever since. This app is a great improvement for most use cases. 100% recommend..Version: 5

Flawed but incredibleOver beg using this app since 2012 and it's been a constant in my photography arsenal. You really do have to familiarize with the different types of film, lens and flash to get the best experience so you're not guessing or getting results you wanted. The app had had a long outstanding bug where the favorites button moves closer and closer to the photos shortcut, but otherwise it's been a great, quirky, fun experience..Version: 9.0.4

Favorite photo appI’m now a lifetime member. I’ve been using Hipstamatic original since it first launched and now I use Hipstamatic X. I’m constantly amazed with the new “looks” that can be achieved with this app. Knowing I’ll always have access to the newest “lenses” and “films” they develop makes this app well worth it. I’ve even used it to make stop-motion films..Version: 7

🔥🔥🔥I love how simple it is to just point and shoot. I don’t mind the subscription as this app has been on my phone for 10years and I’m happy to support the developer and hope it’s still around in another 10..Version: 1.2

Only thing missing is letting us use our own presets?I know there is this idea that we will just take photos with this app, but when you let me import a photo I like that I shot with Camera+ or something, and allow me to apply *your* camera presets to the photo, but don't let *me* apply the camera preset that *I* defined myself, I think I must be missing something. Either remove this edit feature entirely and demand we only take photos with our/your camera presets, or just finish the job and let me import something I composed and exposed in another camera application so I can apply my sweet framed tinto 1:1 preset so I can have some continuity in collections of images I share. 🤷🏻‍♂️ p.s. I'm paying the membership, but I don't think I will for much longer. I'd rather make my own preset in Lr or something like Snapseed. Between Google and Vsco having film simulations that are identifiable, the novelty of using "Kodiak Orca" or something wears off pretty fast..Version: 2.2

HipstamaticXI’ve been using the Hipstamatic app for years and have enjoyed it and belong to several hipsta groups. I had some trouble signing up for the lifetime deal on this app and contacted them about it. They were really nice and tried to help but seemed like the problem was more on Apple’s end but it ultimately worked out. I’m looking forward to seeing how this app evolves..Version: 1.2

Taking things up a levelThis took some getting used to, as it allows you to create your own cameras (choosing from films, cases and flashes you’ve bought before) rather than providing packs already made up. Now that I’ve worked this out it’s a brilliant way for me to perfect the kinds of looks I want and always be able to return to them. The layout is simple and clean, and it just works so well. Congrats to the team, you’ve managed to take one of my all-time favourite apps and improve it..Version: 1.2

Easy to use - needs some tweaks but a promising startHipstamatic is the stand out camera app on my iPhone but the scale of films / filters etc was getting a bit out of hand. I spent far too long fiddling about looking for appropriate effects The advantage with this app is that it has an easy to use auto mode, where the app selects an appropriate effect for a photo you take from the app. If you want a different effect, there is an edit mode where you can easily choose an alternative. I’ve spent a few quid over the years on the original Hipstamatic app, so decided to splash out on the Lifetime membership special deal offer £24 that apparently guarantees future paks and stuff. In the current version of the app, there doesn’t seem to be a facility of picking a photo from your library. Also you can’t use your Hipstamatic X Lifetime membership to unlock all the filters and effects on the original app. I contacted the support people who confirmed there would be updates on the feedback they’ve had since the HX app launched. And likely it would include the functionality to edit from the camera roll and they’d be looking at extending membership benefits to the original app. Whilst not perfect, it’s a promising start and the support people do listen to feedback and work hard to give customers what they want. That’s what made the original app so popular. So it’s a 4 star review for now (the output is fantastic) and likely to be 5 if they improve the functionality.Version: 1.2

Happy OldbieHipstamatic was probably the first app I ever bought and I am so happy that it is back. I was also an original use of Twitter, but now that is dead, I use Mastadon. Any chance that posting to Mastadon will be a native function? Thanks for the fun and memories. In some ways, it’s like I’m back in the ‘60s with hand-cut gel filters and cardstock shaders..Version: 9.0.2

Great JobPretty cool.Version: 1.1

Love this appLong time user. Don’t use as much as I have in the past, but love experimenting with different film and lens combinations! Updating. Meant to leave a 5 star rating..Version: 9.1

A camera bag full of your kinda camerasFun, quick access to any style of camera Easy to fine tune any camera to what you always wanted in your camera kits Reach in the bag for the camera that fits to the mood and settings you see and feel. GreatI am a longtime Hipstamatic user. I love this app! The lifetime deal is amazing. You get all access to current and future gear. The ability to play with different lens and film styles pre and post shot is is easy and enjoyable. Well worth the investment in my opinion..Version: 1.2
