TfL Pay to Drive in London for Negative User Reviews

Great app, shame it’s wasted on such a useless serviceJust a money grab scheme. it’s funny how quick they are to send you a fine in the post when you’ve forgotten to pay the charge, but struggle to remind you that you’ve forgotten to pay it in the first place….. even making you pay DOUBLE for f you forget would be sort of reasonable… like.. straight away instant £90 charge? your making £90 quid every time someone forgets they have to pay to drive their car on top of their fuel, insurance and tax, i’m not suprised their slogan is “every journey matters”, i bet it does 😂.Version: 3.9

BAD BAD BADBAD app, BAD payments system, BAD people working for TFL customer service. They act like their systems are perfect and automatically blame users when it malfunctions. I ended up getting charged with a PCN, which I challenged. They say they never received my challenge AND THATS MY FAULT. Now I have to pay 3 times the original cost of PCN (£280) for a fine I should have never had to pay in the first place. My scooter isn’t even worth £280. EVIL COMPANY EVIL PEOPLE WORKING FOR THEM. THEY SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THE BLOOD MONEY THEY STEAL..Version: 3.4

Wouldn’t take my paymentA few clicks on the app should make it easier right? I thought I’d use the app because I had trouble with the website where it wouldn’t accept my password to create account, no matter what I entered. So gave up and loaded easy use app. Not easy at all since it kept saying something went wrong with my payment. It’s almost like they don’t want you to pay....Version: 1.1

Problems with processing payment. The app failed to confirm purchase. It told me there was an error and payment had failed. I tried again and then with a different credit card resulting in the same error. Later in the day I phoned TFL only to be told by the automatic payment system that the payment had gone through. I was unable to talk to a person. The payment process is flawed and needs debugging. In total 4 (all attempted) payments had gone through but 3 remained pending and I didn’t need to request a refund. However I have no confidence in the app and prefer to use it as it should be easy. I always used the text service to pay before it was withdrawn. Phoning is a nuisance. I look forward to it being updated urgently! Thanks..Version: 1.2

Unreliable and unfriendly app prone to errors, TFL needs to upgrade and improve it.Downloaded the app to make my life easier to pay congestion charge of 15 £ ahead of my one of trip to London, made a payment in advance provided all the details email id etc. Money gone from my account and I never received the confirmation email of receipt despite of giving my email address twice. Reached out to TFL for the same issue and they said they will respond to me in 10 business days ….Version: 3.9

Very very poor design - absolutely no use for meWhoever designed this app never thought 99% people just want open the app and find out when and where ?? I just wanted to know what time I have to pay and which area I have to pay that’s all I need to know -I got pages after pages and hundreds of terms and conditions and all the small print and this and that -but I couldn’t find what is the charging zone and charging time ?? But I couldn’t find this information on this app - then I have to call to find out charging time etc. Oh my God, it is not a hard thongs to do, it is very simple principal -1st page or on the side menu there should be charging time and charging date / charging Zone etc. that’s all And This simple information should be available without creating the account or without reading all of your small print -please kindly update as soon as possible with the following information : •What time does the charges apply ? • which area etc. all information on side menu should be available without creating the account, thanks.Version: 3.3

What no Apple Pay?Not only does this antiquated piece of coding not allow password manager interaction, but even though I have registered my details it doesn’t use them. I have to enter them again. Also it does not use my Apple Pay so card details have to be entered in manually. Why are government apps so amateurish & poorly designed. It’s annoying and embarrassing..Version: 3.7

Useful information pleaseIt would make the app useful if there was a way of seeing the dates you have incurred a ULEZ charge. I live inside the zone, use my car occasionally, but have to keep a separate tally be chase this app has no real use apart from telling me what I already know when the money comes out of my account. Who put this together?!?.Version: 3.4

Does not workSaw the very low reviews but thought I give it a go. Downloaded but impossible to pay PCN because it keeps asking for the latest version even though this is the one that was downloaded. If you are charging ridiculous money for absolutely everything at least get qualified IT team to design an app that works..Version: 3.7

Decent easy to useGreat app, easy to navigate. But please add a feature to pay through Apple Pay/Google Pay if you do, more customers will rely on this feature! It’s 2021 even Ice cream Trucks with contactless payment are way tech savvy and ahead than this. I’ll give it a 5 stars if you update it.Version: 2.1

Paid but still got fined!I paid for ulez and congestion charge a day after i had driven into London, I paid £30 and decided not to provide my email address for a receipt as I’ve never had issues in the passed. A week later I receive a fine through the post which is ridiculous. I have now appealed as I have proof this was paid via my debit card, but it’s just unnecessary hassle. Have a app that works and stop trying to fine people that had actually made payment on time..Version: 3.1

CriminalTypical attempt to con the consumer out of money. TFL know where you have driven in London. They have cameras everywhere. If you don’t pay on time you’ll be hit with a hefty fine. YET, when you come to pay, they put the onus on the consumer to work out which of the three confusing zones they have visited. And then you have to tick a waiver to say that you are responsible for getting it right. NOTE… I agree with the principal of charging for driving in London to reduce emissions… this review is not a protest against that… just a frustration at TFL for producing something so blatantly trying to scam more money from consumers..Version: 3.1

Please make your app workWanted to sign in this morning after downloading app to check if auto pay is working on ulez. (Can’t sign in and check this on your account???) App tells me to update to latest version, which I have just downloaded. IT DOESNT'T WORK. all I hope now is my 2 journeys at the weekend are on my account to pay for. Problem is I can’t check. This isn’t instilling confidence in the Autopay option. Let's hope we don’t get fined. By the way I gave this app one star because I’m unable to give zero.Version: 3.7

Absolutely uselessDownloaded the app today as I’d travelled to Heathrow. First of all I checked that Heathrow was within ULEZ zone and it confirmed it was. Then I wanted to check whether my car was exempt or not. Keyed in my number plate and it said that I needed to download the latest update of the App. There was no update! I’d only just downloaded it so it was the most up to date version! App deleted!.Version: 3.9

Entering email glitchThis app has made paying easier than on line forms but on payments page, after typing first entry of email its says “incorrect email” when it isn’t. On re-entering it work’s second time everytime.Version: 3.7

Bit of a backward appThe application does what it says it does but it’s a little bit backward in the modern times I can’t use basic things luck Apple PayWith all the money the government gave TfL one would think the developers would be able to integrate Apple Pay into the application to make life easy for people My suggestion don’t register if you don’t go into London every day it is not worth the effort.Version: 2.1

App doesn’t workTrying to sign in on iPhone 14 pro max to ulez website auto pay which didn’t work. Downloaded the app instead and it said that I can’t sign in because I need the latest version of the app….even though I just downloaded the latest version. And before capita or TfL reply, yes I have the latest version of IOS. This app is useless..Version: 3.7

Disabilities disadvantaged - useless if you are exempt from CCMy parents live outside London, but visit me in zone 1. My father is registered disabled after a stroke, and so exempt from the congestion charge. However, they are not exempt from ULEZ (being so silly as to buy their diesel based on government advice while they were still working, and unable to replace now they are retired and living on pensions). With this app, you cannot pay just the ULEZ. So no good for registered disabled. And the website is terrible too. Presumably whoever runs the service gets more money for an unusable app that drives more people to the call centre that they also provide....Version: 1.1

Limited usefulnessWhilst it is reassuring to know that if you enter a charging zone without realising you won’t be at risk of incurring an £80 penalty fine for a missed payment - would it be so hard to include the date and time that you entered the zone in either the financial or vehicle history?! Surely these things are easily tracked by TfL, so the lack of transparency almost feels deliberate. If the same vehicle car is driven by more than one individual, you could never know for sure who is responsible for the charges, which are all jumbled together and debited at the end of the month..Version: 3.3

This app is a scam !!!This app isn’t synchronised with TfL’s data base, even if you don’t enter into CC or ULEZ it will still ask you to pay ! Try for yourself, do a little accuracy test on this app, make sure you didn’t drove through CC or ULEZ for a particular day, enter your car details for that day and it will ask you to pay. it simply doesn’t check the records and work on its own like money grabbing app. What I’m expecting as a motorist here on this app is that it should produce accurate results before taking money, it should clearly say you did not enter for the day you selected simple, but at present it takes your money without checking the actual records. This can’t be the glitch... it’s deliberate effort to make money, I’m sure someone will be taking TfL to the court over this app..Version: 1.2

Do I Owe Money1. If you are a tourist and rent a vehicle and are not used to London or Congestion Charges. You get a huge £250 fine from the car rental company. It should be law that car rental companies have to sign up for automatic charging of vehicles so tourist pay the small amount and not tricked into paying the lager amount. 2. There is no way on this app to check if you have driven into the congestion zone in the last 7 days or 15 days or 30days. It’s not possible to do a Car Reg check to see if you owe money. There is a lot of work that needs to be done to ensure there is a fair and ethical practice from TFL towards tourists and motorists in London..Version: 3.4

Biggest con i've come across recentlyI’ve downloaded this to make my life easier when having to pay the Congestion Charge. After setting up the account/vehicle and the payment method, I’ve tried to make a payment of £14 for the previous day. The app said something went wrong and reloaded the previous screen. I’ve checked my credit card and the payment was showing as pending. I contacted TFL (the most unhelpful people on earth) who advised that I contact my bank who advised I contact TFL, which I did, who advised I make the payment through the app again as the previous payment will not be taken out of my credit card and it will definitely work the second time around. It didn’t. Same thing happened again. So now I’m down £28. Now, I know they probably won’t take more than one payment, but I will have to wait a few days to find out for sure. The point of all this exercise was to make my life easier and now I have spent almost 2 hours downloading, setting up, phoning left and right, writing a bad review and I’ve yet to make a payment for yesterday’s Congestion Charge as TFL are saying they don’t have my money and I’m liable for a Penalty Charge Notice. Save yourselves! It’s to late for me..Version: 1.2

UselessI would give it 0. Cannot set up an account because “something went wrong”. Tried to find if a postcode was in a charging zone but this didn’t work. After showing the address using the postcode finder it then says that address not found when you click on the address. Don’t waste your time downloading this ap..Version: 3.3

Logging on issuesDownloaded the latest version and now I’m trying to log on the app, it’s telling me I need to download the latest version and when I click ok it sends me back to the app I’ve already downloaded, and when I click that it just sends me round in circles, hopeless fair play, sort it out developers, don’t even know if my charges will get paid or anything.Version: 3.1

Keeps signing you out!!!It’s really frustrating the app keeps signing you out and when you have to do the payment you end up doing it without logging in (as the system does not prompt that option either). Then you miss the option to get the electronic receipt, that should have been compulsory as I can’t imagine no one would want a copy of their payment), total shambles..Version: 2.1

MrgingerHave been unable to create an account and log in. I use a password manager that creates long complicated passwords but the app would allow you to paste a password into the password form field, you have to manually type the password. It then says I have to confirm my email address before I can log in but not email ever arrives..Version: 3.9

Is it difficult to put charging time or more information on the sidebar ??I was trying to find out when I have to pay, I went through all the area of the app but I can’t find what I am looking for?? very difficult to find the correct information? there should be sidebar with basic information without account login or creating a account, thank you.Version: 3.3

Cannot set up account but managed to pay chargeI followed all the steps to set up an account but it rejected my information without explaining (highlighting) what field it had a problem with. After three attempts, I got two other people to try for me using my phone and my laptop. Both could not understand why the account would not create. I did manage to pay the days ULEZ charge and the email receipt came through in less than five minutes. During the account setup process, I did not feel the app was secure just by the look and feel of it. When it asked for security questions to be typed in such as mothers maiden name, I decided to stop. A long way to go for this website to be effective..Version: 3.9

Having problem even creating an accountAfter downloading and filling information to creat an account, it said “something was wrong” and then ask me to check the webpage, which said nothing about the error I had. Extremely unhelpful error page. Fine, forget about the registration, maybe I can pay without it, go to the payment page, find my car, it said “something was wrong” and let me check the webpage again. Deleted the app, and use “the website” now as the app constantly suggested me to do..Version: 3.0

DO NOT DOWNLOADI downloaded this app and purchased on night of ulez charge. I got no receipt at all to my phone number or email. Even after setting up an account no emails have come through for me to activate. Now I have given over card details, email and other sensitive information and nothing to show for it. Beware and do not trust this app..Version: 3.4

Absolute criminalsDownloading this to pay a £250 fine which I’ve appealed against and had no response to. To challenge it I apparently need to pay a solicitor to witness me signing a form. Funny how they can send me a letter but can’t send me anything when I appeal. I will never trust TfL. I will never support them. I will pay to use more fuel and drive around London causing my fumes and pollution than pay them for a journey I’ve done for nearly 30yrs. They should be ashamed of themselves….. that is if they’re not striking day after day to demand higher rates of pay despite being on the top 10% earning bracket. Edit: now downloaded the app and tried to create an account to pay this absolute extortion only to find I’ve not received any confirmation email to activate my account. Absolutely incompetent. Edit: it’s now 24hrs on and still no email. It is obvious that they don’t want you to set up auto payments so they can generate income. That’s also reflected in the high number of 1 Star reviews..Version: 3.5

No biometric login. Seriously? This must be the only App on my phone without either fingerprint or Face ID biometric password login. Or even a prompt from keychain. So it means I have to remember my login and password every time I use the App. How 20th Century is that? Come in TFL you can do a lot better than this. Please update this as soon as possible before the ULEZ extension adds a few million more users. Whilst I’m here can you also start a 24/7 help desk to match the 24/7 operational ULZ zone you have in place? It’s tiresome and antiquated to have a scheme operating round the clock but a call centre only 8am-8pm Monday to Friday..Version: 3.0

Unhelpful, unintuitive and ultimately frustrating. One of the least intuitive apps I have had the displeasure to download. Having already set up an online account with car, address and card details, I found that I could not pay a penalty charge without entering all the details again. The PCN suggested using this app to pay, sonI downloaded the app and linked to my account and guess what, the app still required me enter all my card and vehicle details again, despite the fact that they had been set up in the linked account. Add this the least interactive or intuitive app keyboard I have seen and the result is 40 minutes of frustration for the dubious honour of paying £80 for having let Google guide me away from Wimbledon on mens final’s day..Version: 3.4

Tells you you’ve paid, you get fined anywayDoesn’t successfully take payments, shabby user experience in many areas. I’d avoid it. Account set-up takes ages and is overly complex. That’s worth it if it simplifies paying the congestion charge, right? Adding vehicles to your account is simple, though they’re never saved. That’s worth it if it simplifies paying the congestion charge, right? Setting up autopay takes ages and is overly complex. So I decided to pay whenever I drive. That’s worth it if it simplifies paying the congestion charge, right? I paid when I drove in to London, got a little confirmation message and went about my business. Fine arrived today. I’m paying that in the app too, and I’ll screenshot the confirmation. It’ll be interesting to see what happens next....Version: 2.1

Utter drossLordy, this is awful. First, have a user number. Remember it (rather than your email address or anything remotely memorable) or be forever banished. Then choose a password, but not one generated by the most popular password system used on the planet. Oh no, that would be far too easy. Then find yourself locked out. Jeez, anyone would think they don’t want your money… actually maybe that’s it… make the process difficult so that you get a fine. Utter rubbish..Version: 3.4

Incredibly poor app and serviceI downloaded this app expecting it to tell me what I owed them and how to pay it. However it couldn’t tell me either of those things. It couldn’t accept my payment card because it was a Mastercard and this is all for the benefit/cost of £10 to register to use their autopay system. I eventually found a phone number online for TFL who took a while to answer the call and I finally got to speak to a lady called Jess. She explained that Mastercards aren’t accepted online but that future payments would be! Lucky I called because I would t have know about the card or that it wouldn’t pick up my payment for yesterday. There are no polite words I would be able to use to tell you how awful this service is. The mayor should be embarrassed putting his name to it.Version: 3.5

Useless to see recent access toll road chargeUseless app. At least on the Dartford toll app it tells you when you have been into it. This app is really really bad as doesn’t say when you last got a charge what day and when. I wonder if this is illegal ???.Version: 3.8

AnnoyingAnnoying App to say the least!! I have entered my details to save for future payments for it to not save. Every time I use it I have to re- enter my details. Additionally, please be aware that I just went to enter my payment details again and it was intercepted to advise that it’s not genuine and a scam to close it and re-enter. It should be more secure and payment details should be saved!! A rubbish app and now I’m always worried it maybe a scam…SORT IT OUT DEVELOPERS PLEASE😡.Version: 3.2

Poorly codedWhatever idiot coded this ridiculous app couldn’t work out how to encapsulate special characters into a password string so to prevent brute force attacks they put a 30 minute lock out after 5 failed log in attempts. Not exactly ISO standard policy for a government body. Also the app doesn’t integrate with any password manager, Samsung or iOS so logging in is impossible without writing down you login details. This is a really rookie bit of coding..Version: 3.9

Terrible AppTrying to make a payment. Put in registration number and tick the “yes” box for UK registration. Press continue and a message box appears stating “Information. download the latest version from the App Store”. Tap Ok which refreshes the previous page. Reentered the details again and the same message box appears and around we go again, and again and again. Impossible to move on from this page..Version: 3.7

Diabolical! Abysmal! Pathetic! Misleading! There are no words strong enough to describe how inadequate and misleading this app (& the entire system) is. I don't have the time to go into it now because I’ve wasted so much of my life already trying to understand what I owe, and why, for which zone. I cant even zoom into the map to get a clear idea of where the zones start & finish. The app also gives the impression that ‘payment is due’ for all zones, all the time. For all the available technology & apparent huge revenue being generated you would expect this app to clearly tell you exactly what is due, for which zone, why & notify you of where you have been with a map you can scrutinise in detail. Very poor effort, stay after class & write 100 times: I must do better, I should offer value, I mustn't deceive, I am ashamed!.Version: 3.1

DreadfulI set up an account on the TfL website and obviously knew my password/place of birth etc. but couldn’t log back in without the 8 or 10(?) digit account number - and there was no way of retrieving it. I then downloaded this app and went through a similar process. At the end, it sends an email for you to click and confirm - except it doesn’t! Not in inbox, spam, junk, or anywhere else. I repeated the whole process with exactly the same result. Now just waiting to see if I get a notice to pay..Version: 3.4

UselessI have signed up to many apps incl banking, shopping and parking apps etc this is the Worst and least user friendly. After spending over an hour setting up the account up trying to read the important bits of the T & Cs and waiting for the email it then doesn't tell me as a very infrequent traveller to London if I incurred any charges. I then went to set up auto pay and found out this needed to be set set up before midnight on day of travel. Then there was an annual charge. I will pay any charges for entering London. When I set out on my journey to collect a rescued dog I hadn't realised there was possible Charges. So was just wanting to check and pay..Version: 3.4

What the heck is this?I was driven to this app by the TFL Congestion Charge app. Why? The Old Congestion Charge app is still available in the store but just does not work. This new app has a button to sign in or sign up. It just does not actually allow signing in. Why? It looks very lazy and does not even cover the functions of the app it replaces. For the money people pay to drive in London I expect better..Version: 3.6

(il)legal racketeeringI literally had no idea about Londons emissions charges not owning a TV or Radio and not actually being a London resident. Yes it well signposted but it’s not like one can turn around in a one way.! One could appeal but of course that would put the fine past the 2 week window at the discounted (very gracious) rate. My only conclusion is yet again the people of England are being fleeced out money whilst being told it’s for our own good. So.. over a barrel, the fines payed. Through the inept TFL app.Version: 3.4

Why change the original appWhy change that was never broken the earlier app was working perfectly, the new app looks very bacic but confusing at the same time. Used it today for the first time today for cc and it has not registered the payment as being received the the payments section but confirms in the calender💭💭 whoever designed this should make sure it works properly before its rolled out- does not leave me with much confidence.Version: 1.1
