Disconnects daily from accountsThe features of this app are great. However, it disconnects every day from every card and bank account. Then you have to go through an authentication process for each account to reconnect. Then you have to wait for all the transactions to update. In short, if you want a budget app that is up to date for tracking, I’d go with something else. Regret paying for the year subscription. I reached out to support too and they can’t fix it I guess because it has been months. It worked when I had the free version so I am confused why it suddenly doesn’t stay connected to my accounts..Version: 1.0.138

Subpar PerformanceUI looks good and certain features are very helpful, but account syncing is terrible. There are a multitude of connection issues and accounts are not syncing/updating properly. For the price tag, this is not a good mint alternative..Version: 1.0.185

Not ready for Canadian RBC customersThis seems like a fantastic app, but it’s not yet ready for prime time for linking RBC accounts. Six days into my trial and I still can’t link my accounts, continually receiving “technical issues” message from RBC, which then triggers security warnings. Argh! Please fix and I’d be more than happy to pay the hefty subscription fee..Version: 1.0.177

Getting Good at BudgetingIt’s really beginner budgeting friendly. It might not be perfect when it comes to understanding the organization and allocation of money with different accounts with your goals but I think it’s great as it is when it comes to helping people track how much they spend and how they see their financial goals long term wise. Though I see that the error of some banking institutions is still a problem, I hope they can fix this soon. I use Navy Federal for my savings. For me it’s not a deal breaker but again, people will definitely appreciate being able to track everything in one place from different institutions..Version: 1.0.116

Stop asking for me to sign up for premiumThe most annoying thing about the app and even the desktop version is the constant nagging and pop up of it asking you to sign up for premium. I’m fact it actually doesn’t even let you use the app or desktop unless you sign up. Even after signing ip for the free trial IT STILL TELLS YOU TO SIGN UP. The only and I mean the only way to get past the god awful pop up paywall is to put you phone in airplane mode and then take it out. But man I wish that worked on the desktop mode. Because it never and probably never ever let me on it. I don’t think this is worth it. Unless they fix the pop up. Like I dont know, adding a X button at the top or a no thanks option at the bottom. That would be cool..Version: 1.0.116

Stopped working after free trialAfter the free trial was over my Canadian accounts stopped syncing properly. The total balances were correct after re-entering my institution info and refreshing but none of the transactions were loaded into the app. Meaning the “cash flow” “budget” “reports beta” “transactions” tabs are all inaccurate..Version: 1.0.177

Compatible to Mint but lacking many Canadian connectionsComing from Mint and this app is friendly and easy to pick up and navigate with features comparable to Mint. As of right now it is missing integrations with about half of the institutions I use daily, including some as large as American Express. Can’t see myself continuing past the trial unless I can start connecting more accounts..Version: 1.0.168

Bank connection issueCIBC connection is horrible, they should fix it!!.Version: 1.0.175

Works well not quite as good as MintGreat features but still don’t have proper sync with Questrade a major investing brokerage firm to show market value balance (only shows cash balance) or National Bank of Canada transactions don’t show. Otherwise works well for budgeting with those disappointing factors mentioned. If they get them sorted out the app would be a 5/5 easily..Version: 1.0.179

Price and accessibility to 3 out of 4 of my Bank accounts…The price is quite steep for a financial application; just to look at the balance is a bit insane. Two out of three of my banking account have issues connecting to the app; Simplii and CIBC. To me, the option will be to stay with the bank own app..Version: 1.0.177

I want to loveBut 7 of my 9 financial institutions are currently listed on their known connectivity page: Wells, BOA, Fidelity, Vanguard, Cap1, Synchrony, and Amex. Only 1 of my accounts works and that’s Chase. My main credit union is not supported: Alliant Credit Union. So 1 out of 9. Umm. For $80 a year you need to offer syncing capabilities that at a minimum exceed that of your free rivals Mint and PC. Which both have minimal day to day issues syncing all 9 of my accounts. I’m grateful apps like MM and Simplifi are coming into the market to offer choice. But for now, they lack connectivity and refinement that the older apps have. Usually that is ok if we are comparing free apps to free apps. But premium apps such as MM shouldn’t come to the market offering syncing capabilities as limited as they have and anticipate making a name for themselves. Well, a positive name I should say..Version: 1.0.6

NOT ready for canadiansI've been using mint for some time and now that is going away, I don't have much choice but to try one of these payed apps to track my spending. For Canadians, this app is NOT an option yet. The connection to pretty much all banks and credit cards is working poorly or completely broken. Even if I manage to connect, it stops working after a few hours. Stop advertising as a replacement to Mint for Canadians, you charge a ridiculous high fee for a currently subpar service..Version: 1.0.181

Connection issuesNo matter what data provider I select, the app disconnects daily. I need to update the connection manually every day through MFA. I might not mind on a free app, but for a paid service, this is fairly unsatisfactory..Version: 1.0.172

Great features but no accurateThis app has a lot of nice features but it has a lot of bugs with it. The biggest bug is it duplicates transactions and it’s hard to identify where the duplicates are when there is no reconciliation between transactions and the account balance. This makes the cash flow and budgeting not very accurate. The customer service is not good. They are always really slow to respond and the last request I had was open a month with no reply. When I inquired about the status of the problem I had, they closed my ticket with no solution..Version: 1.0.105

ExpensiveThis app is expensive at $15/month. At that price I would expect my bank accounts to sync as well as my 401K account so I can easily log in at any given time and see how much I have left in my budget. Unfortunately they don’t and it’s frustrating. I log on and the amounts are wrong or it won’t connect- I reach out and it’s unresolved. I’m never sure where I am in my budget unless I sit down and take 2 hours a week to sort things out. It’s been like this the last 3 months and I haven’t been able to have it corrected. On top of that there is no paycheck planning. I am probably going to cancel this within the next week..Version: 1.0.112

Promising, With Some Deal BreakersOverall, Monarch is a promising app - it’s performant, elegant, and flexible without being over complicated. Ultimately, after 6 months we switched back to Simplifi due to stability issues with Monarch and their lackluster customer support. We intermittently experienced a ‘soft-delete’ issue Monarch helped explain, which caused significant data-gaps with transactions from one of our checking accounts. Customer support was able to restore the missing data quite easily; however, it regularly took 5-10 days for support to take action on support tickets. After 3 or 4 times of this occurring, we ultimately determined that the inaccuracies this cycle caused outweighed the positives of the platform. Perhaps our experience was somehow unique, perhaps not. Either way, I strongly encourage Monarch to increase their investment in customer support - especially with their competition offers near-instant live chat. (Simplifi, Copilot). If these issues improved we’d certainly consider giving Monarch another try..Version: 1.0.118

It’s ok but some things bother me!I like the general use of this app. It’s easy to use and put together nicely. However, they really ruined goals for me and I hope they change it back. Also can no longer categorize pending transactions which drives me crazy because by the time they clear I then have to scroll back and make all the changes. Budgeting is not fully functional for me as they don’t let you have access to the funds in my savings account, I want to be able to budget all of the cash I have on hand to get a full picture. Unless these things change I won’t renew my subscription..Version: 1.0.116

All of my acts doesn’t connectLooking for a new budgeting platform but unfortunately couldn’t use this app fully because all of my accounts do not connect with it. This is the issue I’m having with every platform that uses Plaid. The following Accts /lenders do not connect on Plaid platforms although they are listed in the banking options: Indigo Mastercard, First Premier Card (the only have the link for the regular banking accounts. Credit cards use a different login system), Navient (major student loan institution), CreditOne Bank. If you use all of the major financial institutions, this will be a great product. If not you’ll get annoyed pretty quickly. Still searching for an app where I can see my full financial picture. I’ve been using EveryDollar for the past 2 years but honestly they use a plaid as well and my accounts are always disconnecting, so not even worth the monthly fee..Version: 1.0.71

The iPad app isn’t optimized for iPadI am loving the Monarch service, but I use the website instead of the app on my iPad. The iPad app feels like the iPhone app, but stretched across the screen. For example, the dashboard doesn’t show graphs side by side, and the transactions page just shows me the category icon, merchant short name, and amount. On the website the transactions page allows me to update categories inline and do all sorts of filtering without opening a separate filtering screen. That’s just two examples. Unfortunately, as with most websites, a lot of the “clicking” doesn’t work right (have to tap twice or accidentally “click” things while scrolling). So neither the app nor the website are great for iPad, but the website is definitely better, and that should never be true for an app..Version: 1.0.161

Buyer BewareSuch a frustrating experience with Monarch. I purchased a subscription via iTunes and when my 14-day trial ended, the subscription I purchased was not recognized and I was asked to resubscribe (and locked out of my account even though I had already paid for a 1 year subscription). I reached out to Monarch support and was reassured that my paid subscription would kick in once the trial ended, but it did not. As a paid subscriber, I no longer have access to my budget or the Monarch platform. I was left with limited options to fix the issue, so I requested a refund via iTunes, hoping I could resubscribe and start over. That did not work either. Monarch has some issues to work through — and it’s disappointing and frustrating because this is the best budgeting app I’ve found..Version: 1.0.16

Needs more stabilityThere seem to be only a few budget/financial apps for couples that have one core feature, separate log ins! The look and feel of the app and website are nice and adding accounts, setting up a budget are nice. The dashboard to give you a high level look at your finances is nice. What led us to switch to Simplifi really came down to account syncing. As stated by others, Amex is a joke, Apple Card support is to download a statement each month, adding accounts sometimes gives you a blank screen and you have to close it and see if it worked. If a core feature like account syncing breaks, and seems to be that issue a lot, so much that they have it that as a reason to select as to why you are cancelling, then work on that first. I think if they get that resolved, not sure if it is them or the third parties, even though I have NEVER had issues with Mint, a free product, this could be a good product. The $99 a year is acceptable, but Simplifi is around $30!.Version: 1.0.129

No supportWe got the app and got our accounts connected. For about 24 hours it seemed great! Nice intuitive financial app. Then, most of our accounts became disconnected. We tried multiple times to reconnect following all the instructions and info available in the help section of the app with no avail. We sent multiple messages to Monarch through the app and website, asking for support over several days. We got no response whatsoever. This seems like a great tool, but if we can’t keep our account’s connected or get any support, it is not useful..Version: 1.0.107

They’re blowing a golden opportunityI, like many Mint users, am scurrying for a suitable replacement now that they are closing down that app in January 2024. Since that news, I’ve read dozens of reviews of comparable apps, and tried 6 or 7 of them. Monarch Money has all the features I need, and others I find interesting. I had been using their free, fully functional trial for the last few days, with full intent to pay the $100 at the end, assuming that trial met with success. However, they’re blowing it with the one non-negotiable feature for this class of apps … reliable connection to financial institutions to import and maintain up to date financial data. Trying to connect to a Citibank or Citibank backed store credit card just spins and spins with no success. Connecting to Fidelity brings your data on the first time, but never updates after that (despite telling you it did). Vanguard … problems there too. These aren’t no-name regional banks or Jo Schmo’s credit card, these are the no brained that should just work. Two different emails to their Support have been met with silence, which is abysmal for what they want to charge. With Mint shutting down, they’ve got a golden opportunity, but who’s going to fork over $100 a year for a personal financial app that can’t even update basic, mainstream data?.Version: 1.0.162
