✓ Great potential, but grocery list function needs work.I wanted three things in an app like this. 1. Digitise recipes, 2. Put those recipes into meal plans for the week, 3. Put the ingredients into a grocery list. This app does #1 really well, #2 sufficiently, but drops the ball completely on #3. I happily paid for the full version of this app as the recipe digitisation is excellent, both from cookbooks and online website recipes. I like putting the meals in the meal plan too. The grocery list needs a lot of work. Ideally, I’d love to be able to categorise each ingredient, so that they were organised by each section of the grocery store instead of in the order of the recipes they came from, and for there to be an easier way to combine ingredients (e.g. so I know to buy 3 tomatoes instead of 2 from one recipe and 1 from other). Simple filters or Sort Bys are definitely warranted. This is what I would hope a paid app would let me do. Realistically, there is only one function I REQUIRE from a grocery list, and that is to be able to tick items off. Nope. If you close the app or spend too much time on one of the other pages, it refreshes and then you’ll have no idea what you have left to get. A free To Do list would have this functionality. ✓ Needs more time to improveWeekly meal planning is one of the more time-consuming items for me. I purchased this app because it promised to auto generate meal plans, which would solve my problem. While true, the auto generator seems to be a random recipe selector with no obvious way to tune how it formulates the recommendations. Ultimately this created more work for me as I had to swap out several of its recommendations. I was holding out that maybe this app would improve in this area overtime, and it may still, but seeing as newer features are locked away behind a subscription, it seems unwise to spend more money in the hope it’ll get better..Mikey~Version: 2023.1.1

✓ Student Project Level AppThe listed features for Crouton are excellent. Sadly few are available even under the "Plus" (additional cost) upgrade. The functionality to scan a recipe from a book, import from a website, import from the Paprika app, and scale the recipe's ingredients are all missing. There is zero documentation on how to use Crouton. Some features have placeholder buttons, but they do not work. These issues are the same in both the iOS and macOS versions. The app feels like a one-person student project, and hopefully, we will see the listed features integrated eventually. However, the app offers few advantages to simply pasting recipes to a Note, Paprika, or Evernote file in its current state. ✓ Good app...butI am enjoying this app, but I cnnot get it to synch across devices and the Household feature does not seem to work - can't quite figure out what its supposed to do anyway tbh. Use it on my Mac primarily, but would really love to have it share my weekly menu and shopping list on my iphone too. ✓ Great App - Problems with SyncingI cannot for the life of me get my crouton apps across my device sync. iCloud sync is turned on and working but for some reason there is not parity across my devices. I cannot get my iPhone crouton to upload the changes to my recipe library to my iCloud and sync with my iPad crouton app. This has been broken for a few months. ✓ Features I purchased in the past now no longer availableI was happy to move to this app when I purchased this in the past. I was able to take photos of recipes and these would be smartly added via OCR. Was happy and decided to move from Paprika. However, tried to use the same feature only to find out that you now needed to pay extra (again!) via subscription. Felt like a bait and switch tactic. ✓ Deceiving and LiesThere was a buy-once-get-every-feature in-app purchase that was supposed to support the developer and unlock all features. Great! I loath subscriptions and don’t want to rent my software. So I gladly paid for it. Now there’s an *additional* purchase that’s a subscription that is actually supposed unlock all features! Deceptive, tricky and uncalled for. How long until all new, and potentially existing, features are locked behind the rental, I mean, subscription offering? I’m sure the developer will find an excuse (or not). There’s zero recourse for me as I can’t request a refund anymore. But, please stay away from this deceptive developer and avoid this app entirely. The developer *will* change the deal and there’s nothing you’ll be able to do. Don’t take this developer on their words, judge them by their actions, and so far they’ve deceived and lied. ✓ Clipper doesn’t workLove the design of this app, but after many frustrations with the recipe clipper I have switched back to another app. It will grab the method but not the ingredients, which means everything has to be entered manually. ✓ Good but frustratingThis app is in general a great way to store recipes, build a grocery list, and make a meal plan for the week. But it has a couple big drawbacks which make it frustrating to use: 1. I paid ten bucks for crouton+ just to find out I have to pay more with a subscription to capture recipes with the camera. That feels unfair. 2. This is made worse by the fact that the website recipe capturing is buggy and fails about 20% of the time. With this not working and photo capture off limits unless I pay more, I’m stuck entering recipes manually. Small feature request: I’d love to be able to reorder the grocery list items. ✓ It would be a good app….If you could add more than five recipes on the free version. I wish this was stated from the beginning so I didn’t waste time adding and customizing recipes only to find out that this won’t be usable for me. I wanted to test this app as an alternative to my current practice of PDF’ing all my recipes to the Files app that’s neatly organized with folders. I don’t really understand the asking for tip if you’re going to paywall true functionality of the app. Overall, the features locked behind paywall aren’t worth it so that’s why recipe count is limited as well. It’s a shame because there was potential for this app and I would’ve supported via tip, but now it’s getting shelved in a folder for now and possibly deleted in near future..StBaumyVersion: 2023.5.1

✓ DeceivingI paid for the premium subscription thinking I was getting everything unlocked, but nope! They have a paid subscription within a paid subscription and I didn’t understand that at first. So now I just wasted money on an app that isn’t even giving me the features I wanted and thought I was paying for. ✓ Can’t import from camera , image or textUpdate: Developer responded quickly advising that he might include the ability to import a few recipes in a future update so people can test the app before committing to purchase Personally I don’t purchase apps that require an ongoing monthly or yearly subscription I much prefer a once only payment acknowledging that this usually costs more I thought this sounded like a great app to add all the recipes we have on pieces of paper cut from magazines. Installed the app and tried to add a recipe by using the import option. All that did was show me an advertisement to upgrade to Crouton Discover and not let me test the app by adding a few recipes so it’s of no use to me , will look elsewhere a pity as it seems to have some good reviews.Mike2904Version: 2023.5.1
