The game has beautiful polish, and a strong community, that is welcoming to new players and there is always a fun challenge for even the best players. Its good to note, in-game purchases are purely cosmetic, so you can fully enjoy MahjongSoul without spending any money. If you're looking to practice without being involved in live-game right away, make a "friendly game", this can be set up with computer opponents and rule conditions, so you can practice at your leisure. MahjongSoul is English localized with an attention to details. Resources include a tutorial, scoring and Yaku lists, as well as all other useful information. There's a healthy community for MahjongSoul, and there is a Discord too. I found the community very helpful, it was a place to ask questions, learn, and make new friends. I recommend you download and play MahjongSoul, I think you will have a lot of fun..Version: 1.2

You don’t need to spend money unless you love the anime aesthetics and want more — the actual game itself is totally F2P. Even if you’re not exactly a fan of the visuals, it’s still easily your best option in English — at least, there’s no debate until SEGA MJ comes to your region. The client is also available online and it’s super easy to set up a game with friends. ✓ Good gameThis is actually a really good game. Always people to play with, fun events, very nice clean interface. There is an AI opponent (not very good, but adequate for beginners) if you want to practice, and a basic reference. You can review and save past games. This is pretty much all you need from such a game, and it’s all free unless you want fancy avatars and animations. Cons: if you do want fancy avatars and animations, getting characters beyond the 2 default ones for free is near impossible (you can “pull” for them like in a gacha, but there is approx. zero free currency, and rates are low), and some things about the app are not explained well (like, what are the spheres for?? Or what tiles are highlighted in the replay interface?) Also would be nice to expand the game reference a bit (eg. include scoring, concepts like furiten etc.) and provide both English and Japanese names for all entries. Also in a replay it would be nice if the score display stayed up (unless auto-played), and if it gave a bit more detailed score breakdown for lower points hands..Version: 1.3

In the JP store you’ll find similar experiences but this gives you the real deal while also being incredibly well translated. ✓ Just one problem…This game is a fantastic vessel for mahjong, it has clean and good gameplay with no problems from my standpoint. The one big issue, is that is advertises itself as a gacha game, and yet it has probably the most disgusting gacha system I have ever seen. Before you play, if your incentive is to collect new character and upgrade them, then put it out of mind unless you want to bring out the wallet. It’s impossible (as in you actually can’t) get any summons f2p. If your here for just the gameplay, then enjoy, the gameplay is good..Version: 2.0

✓ Incredible Mahjong, gacha could be betterThis is a really good japanese mahjong game, with helpful tutorials and explanations of the yaku it’s fairly easy for beginners to learn how to play. My only gripe is that the gacha system of micro transactions and rolls to get items and characters is extremely restrictive. It doesn’t affect gameplay whatsoever, but it’s virtually impossible to unlock any characters without either paying real money or playing countless hours. I still enjoy this game a lot, but I think their monetization model could use a little tweaking to make some basic cosmetics available to F2P players. The introduction of alternate game modes, collaboration and seasonal events adds a fresh layer to Mahjong Soul vs other mahjong games. If you want to get into Riichi mahjong, this is a fantastic way to do it..Version: 1.4

However, playing on phone might be a little more difficult than the browser version of the game if you can’t read the Chinese numbers.
