SmartGo One for Positive User Reviews

Really poor customer service. Bait and switch.A great archive of pro games on here, but it is VERY disappointing for SmartGo Kifu users who paid $20 for the app to now have to pay another $11.99 to subscribe to the same app. Total rip-off. Also, they removed the annotated games of Michael Redmond. Just so disappointed..Version: 1.0.1

Liked the old one betterThe new smart go one is very similar to the previous version but it is stronger and slower. I could beat the old one pretty regularly and this one is much more difficult. I have only won 20 or so games since I got it. Then again it took me about 4 or 5 years until I could beat the first version fairly consistently. Maybe 4 or 5 years from now, I’ll be beating SmartGo 1. Who knows? I do know that the computer in the old version would NEVER play another move AFTER it had passed. This version does that all the time. It really bothers me..Version: 1.2.2

Must have app for goThese puzzles are very helpful and the books are affordable and very informative.Version: 1.5.2

Fabulous App!It doesn't get any better than this if you're a Go lover. Great for beginners and experts alike. There's something there for everyone..Version: 1.3.5

A nice upgrade, but could make better use of AIOverall an excellent tool, reasonably priced for the Pro subscription. It’s great to see some integration with a modern Go engine, but I was disappointed it can only be used to play against. It would be a killer feature to have it available when reviewing games or reading books - hopefully this is a future upgrade. Also keeping the old (and very unreliable) method for estimating game scores seems strange when KataGo is available. There are still a few rough edges and dubious design choices (anyone else surprised by a two finger swipe changing to dark mode?) but this is still an essential app for Go enthusiasts..Version: 1.0.3

Best Go App Around!I've tried multiple Go Apps and this is the best one I've found in terms of playing and advancing your skills. The computer automatically adjusts to your skill level and you can use the board to play against other humans if need be too. There's multiple books available and even information on current top players, all in one place. Highly recommend wether you're just getting started or a seasoned player..Version: 1.0.1

Great; could use a few featuresGreat to have everything in one excellent app. Glad my books transferred over easily. A few suggestions: 1) I play against the computer a lot, and it would be nice to have a “rematch” button. As it stands now, I have to click the plus button to start a new file, then click twice more to actually start a new game with the computer. For a casual player like me, I also don’t want every game against the computer saved as a file (I just end up deleting them all). 2) When I do the problems, it would be nice if the computer would automatically respond with a move like in other apps. 3) In general, all the options can feel a bit overwhelming. Maybe a “simple mode” for casual users would be cool. The original SmartGo app felt a bit more streamlined..Version: 1.0.3

Fantastic all-in-one Go app!!This is a fantastic Go app in every way. Anders Kierulf had the set the bar very high with SmartGo Kifu, but this new rewrite leaps over the previous one. Everything you need to play, learn, and study Go is all there under a beautiful, new UI. Get it..Version: 1.0

Wonderful to see ongoing development of SmartGo on iOS!!I’m thrilled to see this new version of SmartGo on the iOS platform including the embedding of Go Books. I was recently considering my next update of the GoGod database, but with this new SmartGo “subscription” model, I can automatically continue my support of both Anders Kierulf as well as John “the GoGod” Fairbairn..Version: 1.0

Great tool for beginnersI have tried several apps to work on beginner problems. SmartGo One is the only one that actually seems to be able to help explain why a particular result works. So it isn’t just my dumb luck or trial and error..Version: 1.3.3

Excellent way of reading go booksInteractive diagrams in go books is such a killer feature.Version: 1.5.2

Very good. Only one suggestionComputer is too powerful for beginners. It would be better if we can adjust difficulty..Version: 1.2

Useful go appVery handy to have built-in katago for post-game review (or for AI suggestions in the pro game collection section). Can easily send sgfs to email, too. The programmer even kindly included a tournament kifu mode that removes the AI button :).Version: 1.6

#1 Go appThis and one other Go app are the best on the market! I am very proud to see how far Go has come with technology over the past decade..Version: 1.0

Beautiful appA beautiful app for a beautiful game! I love the new design and features. The Pro subscription is well worth the cost if you love the game..Version: 1.0

Great problemsThe app really enjoyable to use. Enough problems, well organized in terms of player level, to really learn from..Version: 1.3.1

Good pracrtice but does some weird stuffSmart Go makes a lot of useless moves toward teh end.Version: 1.5.2

We need CHINESE!Why the computer always “pass”when I play? Am I too stupid? 😂 In addition, I hope to support Chinese. 为什么我玩的时候电脑总是跳过,是不是我太笨了😂,另外,希望支持中文.Version: 1.2.1

DelightfulMy only wish is some kind of facility for playing games online with similarly skilled players because the interface is so nice..Version: 1.0.3

More Game RecordsI appreciate the many functions of the app from books to game recording. The tournament mode is a handy addition. However, I wished that the kifu collection included Choi Jeong(!), Yu Zhiying, and Oh Yujin’s games as well..Version: 1.1.2

Absolutely the best go app availableThis app has it all: a database of pro games, go problems, joseki pattern search, digital and interactive versions of popular go books, and the ability to play against a strong AI. The interface is great, and the app is worth it for the go books feature alone. However this app has so much more than that, it's pretty much the perfect go study app. Highly recommended..Version: 1.4.2

Elegant and powerful by seasoned expertAnders Kierulf has been writing Go software for years. The sgf - Smart Go Format - Go file name was his creation. This is beautifully thought out, powerful and comprehensive software. The yearly subscription for the pro version is good value I feel. To be able to readily see a joseki in your game as deployed in a pro game is a super powerful feature. You should at least give this software a try..Version: 1.5

Miss the old SmartGoI’m a long-time SmartGo Kifu user, and for most of my purposes, the new app is just a bit less smooth and reliable. For problems in particular, text above the board occasionally overflows the screen, more problems have little or no explanatory text, a few incorrectly mark equally correct moves incorrect. I understand the reasoning behind the new app, and I don’t begrudge the author a steadier revenue stream, but the new version still isn’t quite up to par with its predecessor..Version: 1.5.2

A few suggestionsGreat app. Definitely the best go app out there. That being said, here are a few suggestions: - The slider to move quickly in the game tree used to be way better in smartgo kifu. Not sure what happened, but it’s not smooth anymore. It’s often unresponsive. Even worse, when on move 0 of a game, trying to slide further in the game will switch pages 😅 This is really the main irritant for everyone I know who uses the app. -AI analysis is mostly great, but having to activate it again every time the position changes is quite annoying. There should be a way to leave it running. Even better, there should be a way to auto-analyse a game and highlight the major mistakes. - The integration with smartgo books is truly amazing, especially with more recent ones. When the author presents a pro game that’s already in the database, it’s magical to be able to explore what happened before and after effortlessly. Even better, asking katago what it thinks on the spot is often very enlightening. Adding local AI analysis for any whole board position from a book would be great. Thanks for the great app 🙏.Version: 1.6.1

Pretty but lackingWhere is the Guess function? Why do longtime users of SmartGo Kifu have to pay again to get a few more pro games? Where do the win % and points from KataGo appear? Update thank you to the devs for answering. Yes, the % does appear between the names of the players, but when reviewing a pro game, the % is not there, and, if you paste the pro game sbc in “my games” the % is displayed but always says “100%” no matter what stage of the game you are reviewing. The “Guess” function present in Kifu will return later, just not in v 1.0. Also - an automatic discount would be nice for users of Kifu..Version: 1.0.1

Best Go appStill trying out the features, but it’s intuitive so far.Version: 1.0.3

Only Go App You’ll Ever Need!Tsumego, Pro games, Books, and KataGo analysis and computer play! What else could you want?.Version: 1.4.1

Complicated but goodIt is kind of hard but it is good for your brain.Version: 1.5.2

Finally Beat the 9x9 bot!Love the app, been using it for years and after struggling to beat it on 3 handicap stones at first, I finally beat the strong 9x9 bot! May I ask about how strong it is?.Version: 1.2.3

All you needA lot of problems, lots of pro games, plenty of review features and the go books, this app has so many great features..Version: 1.8.2

Good AppThis app rocks!.Version: 1.2.5

Great App in Go Baduk !I love it !.Version: 1.4.1

LameSubscription is lame.Version: 1.2

Very impressedI am brand new to Go and this apps free features are unmatched by other apps I have tried. When the other features become more important I will definitely upgrade to the paid version. The problems feature and AI games on this app allow you to move forward and backwards through your moves which is invaluable for real-time understanding of why a move is good or bad. This really feels like a go app designed to give a great go experience as opposed to selling an app. Highly recommend!.Version: 1.6.2
