Meridian 157: Prologue for Negative User Reviews

BoringGraphics are dull and not like the promo. Navigation is boring, very static, and mostly click through scenes. Some puzzles were ok..Version: 1.6.4

This game didn’t download properly! The screen just became dark, and the music became silent, as soon as I opened it! Big disappointment!.Version: 1.7.5

Good startI gave a generous 3 stars for the overall quality of the product by comparison to similar games available. In reality I give 10 large stars for the incredible work done by the two members of the team. Congrats! This a good start and while I wasn’t impressed by the playability of the prologue, the lack of map and the overall look of the game, I bought the first chapter to encourage you to keep going. Keep it up!.Version: 1.5.3

Just a teaserThis is just a teaser to get you to buy the game.Version: 1.6.9

CuteI really liked the Prologue even though it was really short. Great graphics too. BUT paying $1.99 for every chapter is ridiculous. If more developers charged that much for games I would buy more. $5.99 to $7.99 is crazy especially when im not sure if I would even like the game. I started playing the De Vinci one but I couldn’t figure out how to exit puzzles also games like that the movement of the games makes me dizzy. So I won’t pay more than $1.99 for games anymore. But that’s a lot to pay for chapters..Version: 1.6.3

Not too bad just needs fine tuningThe game idea is really good just needs things sorting out. like the last puzzle, the piece would move up and down easily but not sideways.Version: 1.0

Nice teaserI enjoyed the teaser for the game, however one of the puzzles doesn’t reset back to its initial position so if you move the switches before finding the clue you are dead in the water. The only way around it was to find a YouTube video to help..Version: 1.7.1

Low Quality Amateurish Linear 'Game'Feels very linear, two-dimensional, player must make continual forward, backward repetitive movements. There are no shortcuts between locations, nope you have to laboriously click and click and click between locations. These locations typically require one set of interactions e.g. pick up an object, open a closed container, solve a simple puzzle, before becoming dead space. Game mechanics are competently coded but very basic and utterly boring - like following a flow diagram or circuit board. Reminds me of pioneer computer games from 1980s/early '90s. Not enough narrative, dialogue, no charm or humour of any kind, nor any real attempt to involve players in the game. No mind nor heart nor soul are required to play, just a lot of repetitive screen prodding. It feels like something submitted by a second or third year student to get course credit. It does not feel like a game created by a professional developer to be sold as a completed product. Was glad I tried the free trial Prologue before buying the next chapters - saved a little money..Version: 1.6.4

Pointless, unimaginativeYou “walk” around, picking up any items you find, that are scattered around without reason. The items let you interact with certain obvious things, leading to more obvious items, more obvious interactions. Sometimes there is an boring puzzle game to solve. One of the puzzles is flat-out stupid, hard to believe you’ll figure it out without consulting a walkthrough. The navigation control is crude. You can’t turn around, you can only back up, and, weirdly, sometimes “backing up” actually navigates down to where you haven’t been before. The biggest missing component to this game is imagination. Nothing imaginative or surprising happens..Version: 1.6.4

Lost all progressPut my phone to sleep, came back to start..Version: 1.5.4

Have to start again? So the update means you have to back to the start? That’s annoying. Perhaps it is so short that it doesn’t matter but I don’t know.Version: 1.6.4

Fun but shortSelected the HARD version and didn’t need clues to solve. But was a challenge. Over too quickly though..Version: 1.1

MehI mean I finished it in 15 minutes so that was a bit of a disappointment. The puzzles were very easy. Although I will probably play the next chapters because the story is interesting to me..Version: 1.6.4

Ugh. Shouldn’t have played The Room games firstIt was pretty lame. Even for free. Sometimes you would need things that were just blending into the scenery. There was a hose you need at one point and I would never have even noticed it, so thanks for the hints. It just blended in with everything else around it. You can do that if the graphics are great, but when they’re not you can’t. They’re not. Well, glad it just ended. I would probably have kept playing out of a hatred of leaving things undone. The game ended quickly on its own though. 😅.Version: 1.7.4

Unfinished rather than unpolishedThe game looks great, and appears to operate well in the familiar tradition that begin with Myst, but it’s so seriously flawed it’s currently unplayable on both my iPad and iPhone. First the ‘levers and flag puzzle’ which others have commented on. This is one of the most poorly conceived and designed illogical puzzles I’ve ever encountered. It doesn’t need a better clue system it needs to be a better puzzle. Even when you know the answer it just makes no sense and even the Unwrapper walkthrough brute forces it. Then the bugs - the glass on the three numbers puzzle doesn’t change colour on my iPad version so that’s it. An uncompletable puzzle and an uncompletable game. And so switching to my iPhone the yellow ‘C’ shape on the last puzzle only moves up and down not from left to right. So when it comes to resorting to a walkthrough and then even the walkthrough doesn’t work it’s time to give up. I’ll play the game when it’s finished as I did like it in some ways..Version: 1.0

Click click clickI think this could be fun at some point if it were updated a good bit. Too much time is spent clicking from one path to the other. See an item, pick it up, click, click, click, go back to the last location, use the item, click, click, click, go back further down the last path to find the next item. There are only a few actual puzzles. The rest is like a treasure hunt, very unchallenging treasure hunt. I appreciate the free Prologue. I don’t think I’ll buy the following chapters. It’s the type of game I love but it wasn’t complex enough for me. All the clicking and old style graphics really bummed me out..Version: 1.6.7

The best is yet to comeI got frustrated with the prologue after following the lead of another reviewer, playing on hard, and getting stuck on a puzzle because that had no reset option. So I gave up, but came back to the sequels after finishing all the Adventure Escapes, Rooms, and House of Davincis. And I’m so glad I did! Here’s my advice to other escape fans: 1. Play on normal—better to have the option of hints and mostly not use them than to get stuck and have to restart the whole game 2. Take a picture of every puzzle before you start messing with it 3. Buy the sequels to this app. They are better than this prologue 4. Support developers like this who make quality apps and sell them at a reasonable price. No collection of user data is awesome! To the developers: please add reset buttons for puzzles so other players don’t get stuck, give up, and miss out on your great work!.Version: 1.7.5

Meridian 157 prologueThe most idiotic frustrating game I have ever had the misfortune to acquire. The early stage consisted of mind numbingly easy puzzles to solve. The game then lurched into the most illogically impossible puzzle and I found myself tapping my screen randomly in the hope that something would happen. It didn’t, and after several hours gave up. Even the hints didn’t help one iota. Don’t waste your time on this so called ‘absorbing’ puzzle game unless you want to throw your device out of the window in helpless frustration!.Version: 1.6.4

Stumped by the puzzlesI have played many games through to the end such as the room series but this prologue has me totally confused. The drawbridge has a group of levers which are hard to control and the document I found with ^^^^>>><<>^ etc etc doesn’t make sense with levers which go up and down in increments. It’s not better hints I need it’s puzzles which are logical..Version: 1.6.4

Way to short and games not logical or irritatingI hoped this was going to be very interactive by the level of detail but it is actually very linear, and I had to look up walkthroughs to solve some of the puzzles as they just didn’t make sense....Version: 1.6.9

I don’t think I would pay for the next chaptersThis game fails to be as good as a the DaVinci House or the Room series. Very rudimentary in its game play as you can’t really ex0lore an environment and can just tap around and the normal mode where you are supposed to get hints is bad. Hints offer nothing. Stuck with no way to move forward. Invest in another game..Version: 1.7.4

It’s ok, but very linear.Looks nice and is a bit spooky but the inventory based puzzles are extremely basic. You pick up an item in one scene and use it in the next scene. Or there is a puzzle you can’t do and you’ll find the answer in the next scene. Actually there was one puzzle where the solution was so abstract that the guy writing the walkthrough didn’t know how he knew how to do it! I’m going to buy the next part, assuming it’s cheap, but don’t have huge expectations..Version: 1.5.4

OkayQuite difficult to remember where things are waste a lot of time going the wrong way, okay game disappointed it’s not completely free.Version: 1.6.3

It’s ok…First of all it was very short and kind of left you wanting to play a bit more. It looks like they are going to do a continuance in the future. And also there’s a couple glitches. One of the games in particular where you have to slide pieces around, doesn’t register when you’re clicking on it. So you have to slide your finger on the piece 15 or 20 times before it responds. So just ok for me..Version: 1.7.4

Faulty game progressSolved first puzzles, got on the board sailed to anomaly only to find I had missed something at the start. I can’ go back and get it so now stuck after a very short time playing the game..Version: 1.6.4

BuggyThere’s a major glitch right from the start. If you don’t pick up the eraser before you go to the island on the boat then you’ve got no way of going back to get it but you can’t proceed without it..Version: 1.7.1

Cool, but why ?Why did you cut the game in the middle? otherwise, the games are great, the ambience and the puzzles, magnificent! but please don't make the ending pay off, if possible! Have a good day !.Version: 1.7.5

Lost Credibility in 6 screensI was really hoping these games were on the same high level a different company who also makes ‘enchanting’ games. Alas it was not to be. Fortunately I didn’t waste much time on it. Avoiding spoilers as much as possible, let’s just say you find a sea captains log. The first thing that the captain says is that his ship “tipped over” and sank. Tipped over??? No captain of anything larger than a rubber raft would say tipped over. The correct nautical term is “capsized”. Either the developers are landlubbers who didn’t do any research at all or they are targeting this game to 3rd graders. Either way, if this is an example of what’s to come, then I can not give this more than 2 stars. The graphics aren’t good enough for you to know what you are looking at on many screens. The puzzles were quite easy, but then again I didn’t get very far before the Captain pulled me right out of the story back into reality and the realization that this is not a well written puzzle adventure. Moving on to another developer..Version: 1.7.0

Not a bad gameI was a bit dismayed at the developer’s comments for some of the critical reviews, which initially turned me off. Then reading some of the more positive reviews, and being a fan of the genre, I decided to give the free prologue a test drive (after all, that’s the whole point of why they made the free prologue). For a small development team (I think 2 ppl based on another review) this seems really well done. It’s definitely closer to Myst than to games like The Room, so I can understand why some players disliked the design and gameplay. However, I found it to be enjoyable. The puzzles themselves were on the easier side, though one of them did not seem to relate at all to the in game clue (not hint) so that had me stumped. The player does spend most of their time clicking through the world and searching for items, that’s the genre, so if it’s not for you I’d move along. This type of game is more about the exploration of the world than just solving puzzles. As with games of its kind, Meridian suffers from the player sometimes having to click around, unsure of whether they’ve missed something or not. Again though, that’s part of the puzzle aspect—figuring out what you need in order to move forward. The storyline is intriguing, and since I like a good scavenger hunt I’ll give one of the paid chapters a try. My one suggestion would be that the devs work on their professionalism when addressing critiques of the game, and not take an aggressive tone with players..Version: 1.6.9
