Mozilla VPN - Secure & Private for Negative User Reviews

Not working after updating to iOS 16It’s not working after I updated to iOS 16, the VPN connects to the server but then instantly the internet stops working..Version: 2.9

It worksConnections are fast and stable but as others have mentioned, it’s quite feature poor compared to other VPNs. I miss having things like auto-connect and widgets, but I assume (hope?) with future development we’ll see feature parity with the competition. Also saw a comment about not working in Canada but it works just fine for me..Version: 1.0.6

Not best way to log into app.Really wanted this, but can’t pay via App Store, complicated log I’m system.makes me stay where I am.will switch ,when ironed out the kninks.Version: 1.0.6

No On-Demand SettingI guess it does what we’re told it does. However, you need to turn it on every time you power up or restart your mobile device. That, in my opinion, is a fail..Version: 2.5.0

Not working on iOS 16Upgraded to iOS 16 and the app doesn’t work anymore. It will say it’s connected, but no web pages load and all network activity stops. Tried reinstalling the app and changing DNS settings & location to no avail. When this happens, turning off the VPN doesn’t even work and I have to toggle airplane mode on and off to get any internet/network back. I tested other VPN apps with iOS 16 no problem, it’s just Mozilla VPN that is doing this and I paid for the year service..Version: 2.9

It used to workI never got it working under Linux or OSX. But the iOS app worked. Then I was forced to update and now it never connects. Just tries to connect and then just disconnects. What’s worse is that it messes up the phone into thinking there’s no internet connection. Was expecting better performance from Mozilla TBH quite a disappointment!.Version: 2.11

Could be greatWhen I activate this app I always stop being able to get internet connection after a few hour’s. When I switch the vpn off it comes back. It’s for this reason I rarely use it on my phone..Version: 2.6.2

Inoperable for iPhone 12 Mini (iOS 15.0.1)The mobile app is stuck in a loading screen loop. There is no way for me to enter my Mozilla credentials in order to activate the VPN for my mobile device (iPhone 12 Mini/iOS 15.0.1). I have contacted support and am awaiting their response. In the meantime I have uninstalled/reinstalled the app, changed browsers (and browser settings), and have tried using only my cellular data and WiFi, respectively. Nothing has remedies the issue, so there must be a glitch regarding the app. If I am able to effectively use the VPN on my iPhone I will be more than happy to revise this review to reflect the progress made. Until then, I have to give this app one star..Version: 2.5.0

Very poor all roundConstantly dropped out, resulting in having to close browsers and then turn the VPN off and on again. Two days of using another VPN and I’ve had ZERO drop outs. Cancelled Mozilla after 10 months after customer service refusing to look at the logs to sort the issue out. They said “log out and log back in again” and refused to give me any of my 10 months payments back for their terrible service. Absolute waste of £36.60..Version: 2.5.1

Unreliable & BuggyThe app will often disconnect leaving my whole phone without internet. When this happens in the middle of driving, it is especially inconvenient. Seems to happen more often when switching from wifi to cellular. This might be worth $5/mth, if it worked. As it is, I’d pay $2/mth, and turn it on as needed. I’m upset I paid in full..Version: 2.16.1

ICloud sync issues?Went with Mozilla VPN as I like Firefox on windows sync to Safari on Apple. However iCloud sync of bookmarks and photos doesn’t work reliably for me, so most of the time I’m running VPN off when I’d prefer to leave VPN on all the time. Works well apart from that. Hoping Mozilla fix this sync issue. Might look elsewhere if not working soon..Version: 2.8.2

Great app with one exceptionTruly GREAT app and VPN with one exception: I will happily make this review 5 stars when the iOS app has AUTOSTART and AUTO-CONNECT, key features for busy folks. As a developer myself this should be a quick fix guys, DO NOT tell me it’s coming soon, just make this happen ASAP and don’t lose a valuable customer who could recommend this to his entire firm..Version: 2.9

Doesn’t work on iOS. Ever. That’s it - it just doesn’t work. Upon connecting I’m met with a “no signal” error and I lose internet connectivity. Turning the VPN off restores my connection. Mozilla support don’t listen and just give the classic “have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling?” line. This has lead to me disabling the VPN to access the web multiple times, which completely defeats the point of having a VPN, so thanks Mozilla. Don’t waste your money on this, use something like Nord VPN instead..Version: 2.9

You pay...every monthI downloaded this and after making an account was asked for £4.99 a month...I cancelled.. please inform of prices...before..Version: 2.2

If it just turns off after a few hours... what's the point?I love Mozilla. I wanted this app to be great. And it could be, except for the one, glaring flaw. After a few hours, it just silently turns off, without giving you any kind of notification or warning, and you have to turn it back on manually. How they decided that it was a good idea to release a VPN with a silent auto-shutoff feature is beyond me. If this is what their VPN offers, what's the point?.Version: 2.2

Does not work at allThe only part of this app that works properly is the billing, meaning they charge you. The rest of the VPN does not function in any capacity in any location. All servers are constantly down is the message I receive. Attempting a refund since the product does not work. Edit: I’ve been asked to contact support regarding this issue, but I contacted them before posting this and have yet to hear back..Version: 2.16.1

😔 I tried …I’m a big fan of Mozilla and I wanted to like this VPN. But it simply could not connect, or stay connected, enough to be useful. It’s so confusing to tell what’s going on between the little “VPN” notification at the top of my iPad vs. iOS settings VPN status vs. the UI in the Mozilla app. So often they were inconsistent and most importantly, not actually connected to VPN. Sometimes I’d get logged out for no reason too. Very frustrating. Meanwhile I had a rival VPN installed and quite often it worked instantly… and even while connected with the other VPN, Mozilla still said “trying to connect” within their app. In fact, I could even put the iPad in airplane mode and the Mozilla app thought it was still trying to connect. I’ll keep my eyes on the product, maybe it will improve. But for now I just need to find something more reliable..Version: 2.7.0

IOS okay. macOS not so much.IOS app is okay. macOS app has a bad install experience that Support is aware of but has not addressed. Overall it will work with a unique Mozilla Account but is designed to use your Firefox Account where other services like bookmarks syncing are stored. If your uncertain, consider trialing Mullvad VPN directly since it is currently the service underlying Mozilla VPN..Version: 2.8.0

Does not workI really wanted this to be good and support mozilla, but this vpn absolutely sucks. Constantly drops out. Often won’t connect. Vancouver server is unusably slow when it does connect. Don’t waste your money. Mozilla staff: save your generic response in the comments, I tried your troubleshooting, it’s still a steaming pile...Version: 2.11

In App PurchasesAre you bring in app purchases for this service? Would be a massive help to me keep everything in one place than having purchases all over the place.Version: 1.0.6

Good speeds. Difficult to use.Like other reviewers, I’m happy to support Mozilla and the speed of connections are good. However, browsing locations for connections is tedious. The disconnect toggle is not responsive, which makes turning off the connection very frustrating. I’m leaving Moz for a different provider but hope to be back when when the service is more developed..Version: 2.14.0

Too unreliableIt worked well for the first few months that I had this. But as I am coming up to the end of my one year subscription, it won’t connect about 80 to 90% of the time. I want to support Mozilla but this product is not worth the money at the moment. Going to try Nord VPN and I’ll revisit Mozilla next year and see where they’re at..Version: 2.9

DOESN'T WORKThe first time I subscribed it worked fine. I just resubscribed and it says "remote service error" when I login. I CAN'T EVEN GET I'M. The tech support is a joke. There are no updates on the website no fixes. Nothing. I'd rather pay a bit more for a reliable website. I want my money back, but there is no way to contact anyone. Seriously. Joke..Version: 2.3

Not Free, Not Ready For CanadaIt's shown as GET in the App Store which means free - except after you provide an email and create a password, it's $4.99 per month. No Paypal, only credit cards + your ZIP Code. Clearly not for Canadians..Version: 1.0.6

Inoperable for iPhone & iPad (iOS 15.0.1)The mobile app is stuck in a loading screen loop. There is no way for me to enter my Mozilla credentials in order to activate the VPN for my mobile device (iPhone & iPad iOS 15.0.1). I have contacted support and received a useless response - images and info that’s already available, but doesn’t answer my support request. I have sent screenshots of my lack of progress to support, but there is no support. I have uninstalled/reinstalled the app numerous times, changed browsers (and browser settings), and have tried using cellular data and WiFi. Nothing remedies the issue, so there must be something regarding the app. If I can use the VPN on my iPhone & iPad I will be revise this review, until then it’s one star because I can’t give it none because it’s crap. It’s nothing to do with my payment or my login because it works on my laptop, but I really want it to work on this iPad..Version: 2.5.1

Good, but critical feature missingMozilla VPN mostly does what it should, but it doesn’t automatically restart when rebooting a device. This is a big oversight, especially if it’s supposed to become VPN for the masses. A user shouldn’t have to think about protecting themselves, they should just be as is the case with most large VPN providers. Also, it configures the VPN differently in settings in iOS compared to other VPN services, which is a bit confusing. Many others are under a section called “personal VPN,” whereas Mozilla’s is under a “VPN configuration.”.Version: 1.0.6

VPN is faultyI know you typically see 2-3 star reviews as throwaways but hear me out. This VPN has the potential to be great. I can bounce from city to city, country to country. When it’s working, it’s good. The problem is the connection is faulty. At times, it will say not connected (to wifi or to cellular data). Sometimes it’s on, sometimes it’s off. I use it on several devices. Lastly, on my laptop, it stopped working. I redownloaded it and it still doesn’t work. Maybe later this can be “wonderful,” but right now, it’s just not there..Version: 2.7.0

Doesn’t workSubscribed only to find out that VPN never connects. Waste of £8.50 don’t bother..Version: 2.16.1

Great service, but app needs work to improve utilityI love using this on my desktop platforms (Mac windows and Linux) but on iOS and iPadOS it’s extremely frustrating to see that it only stays on for a couple hours at most it seems. It will silently turn itself off in the background and more often than not, when I pull out my phone or iPad it will be disabled without any notification. It’s a great service, but the app really needs some work – at the very least it needs to generate a notification when disconnecting in the background, if the actual problem came be easily resolved..Version: 2.0.3

Not workingInstalled on iPad, clicked Get Started...black screen and a message saying Authentication error..Version: 1.0.6

Does not workIt always says no connection as soon as I turn on the VPN. Turn off the VPN everything is fine...Version: 2.16.1

Connectivity problems persistLike others, I wanted to support Mozilla, but the connection will just drop without warning (worse in the evening), which makes it unusable, particularly when you need a dependable connection (meetings, banking sessions, etc.) I followed all the recommendations on Mozilla’s help section, to no avail. It looks like the issue is with the servers themselves, suddenly becoming “unavailable”. Very disappointing..Version: 2.12.0

Servers neededOverall, it’s ok. Being dropped too often. need more servers in Canada. Would be nice to have “kill switch”..Version: 2.0.3

Not BadSpeeds are pretty decent. Only issue is you aren’t notified when the connection drops/when the vpn is turned off. Soo you gotta monitor it every so often to make sure it’s still enabled. Can get quite tedious and if it is disconnected then who knows how long it had been off for..Version: 2.6.2

Better VPNs out thereIssues connecting, takes a lot longer than other VPNs. If you want to just switch your location for shows or movies this is the VPN for you. If you want to encrypt your data, try other ones, as there’s only a handful of USA servers which I believe is the cause for the long connection times Overall, not really worth the 9.99/mo they charge..Version: 2.19.1

Not connectingHave sent many messages to let them know that my Device couldn’t connect. But got no reply. uninstalled..Version: 2.3

Fast, needs an “always on” VPN configuration option. To the developers, overall I’m impressed with the connection speed. I’ve always loved Mozilla products. However, I’m a bit surprised that for a VPN there is no option for an “always on” configuration. I hate that I have to turn that on each time I restart my device or any time connection is lost. That’s the only reason this gets 3 stars from me. I’m still testing it out for a few months, if this option isn’t added in the near future I’ll probably switch back to Proton VPN..Version: 1.0.6

Hoped for betterReally hoped I could trust Mozilla , but subscribed via my iPhone and when I open the app it asks me to subscribe again - if I do that it says I’m already subscribed and loops back to ask me to subscribe again - ad Infinitum. Can’t use the service I have paid for.Version: 2.3

Doesn’t work on my iPhone 12?So I have been having nothing but problems ever since I got a iPhone 12. I had a iPhone 11 & never had any problems with it? I can’t use any app to either create or login into a existing account? I have called Apple care for nothing? So now I am stuck paying for a iPhone 12 I can’t use. Figured I would try adding this VPN to my iPhone! Like typical I can’t even use a app I just paid a yearly bill for? I have been to spectrum internet services because I got it from them. They can’t troubleshoot it? Why even sell it then? Anyway just another pic on my screen with another app I can’t use!! Very disappointed because it would definitely be great to use a phone I’m paying for!.Version: 2.7.0

Shockingly badThese clowns have somehow disabled clipboard paste when you log in, so it’s completely unusable with a password manager. I feel ripped off..Version: 2.8.2

Works Just Fine, But...I know iOS doesn’t allow for a kill switch, but if I can get notifications when I enable/disable the VPN, why isn’t there a notification for when it drops on its own? I’m repeatedly finding myself checking to see if it’s still enabled, and there have been too many times that I’m checking after browsing social media, only to find I was doing so with no VPN enabled. If there can’t be a kill switch for data, can there at least be a notification for when the VPN disconnects on its own (which seems to happen every 12-36 hours, lately)?.Version: 1.0.7

Terrible at bestWhile I’ve been using this service both of my iPad and iPhone since the arrival of the app, it’s failed to meet my expectations as a am user. I like the “privacy first” approach. However, what’s it’s worth if the VPN doesn’t work most of the time. It doesn’t work on either of my iOS/iPadOS. I tired deleting and reinstalling the app few times. Sometimes, that work. Other time it does nothing. It doesn’t work with Netflix, Disney+ or any other services. When the VPN works. The only reason I got a 2 star instead of one is because it works on my PC..Version: 2.9

Non-functional productIPadOS 15. Installed, hangs when trying to connect. Unable to stop connection attempt, so have to delete app and reinstall. 4 tries now, each time app trying a different server. IPVN, ExpressVPN both install and work without issue on same configuration. Didn’t realize until I read comments here that there’s no kill switch. Product not ready for release, sorry I wasted $9.99 and an hour of my life. Mozilla can do better..Version: 2.5.0

Horrible app, vpn just doesn’t work properlyThe vpn is the most unstable I have ever used. Why is it so hard to TURN OFF the vpn sometime??? It literally gets stuck on ON. This wouldn’t normally be a problem if the vpn actually worked but after sometime it will stop working and you will have no internet until you turn it off!!! Hence the cycle of frustration of using this app. I love Mozilla and everything they stand for but this isn’t it..Version: 2.18.0

Always disconnectsMozillaVPN app for iPadOS always disconnected while I was using it. There was no notification or alert that disconnection had occurred..Version: 2.0.3

Does not work under ios16My latest review disappeared, interesting. I had to cancel because I could not get a connection on any server with any iOS product after ios16 update in late September. Tech support was quick responding but could not verify that vpn will work will the upcoming ipad update. I really like Mozilla overall but had to go with another vendor this year until product is fixed..Version: 2.9

Drops randomlyI appreciate mozilla as an organization, but the ios version of the vpn drops randomly without notice, and there’s no way to configure it to start when i turn my phone on. The mac version works totally fine, i can configure it to startup when i turn my laptop on and it doesn’t drop. I just wish the ios version worked as well. i actually used mullvad vpn directly before this and never had any issues (both have flat rate pricing models). I’m likely to switch back to mullvad, and may revisit mozilla in the future if it gets more reliable..Version: 2.0.3

Extremely unreliableI like Mozilla / Firefox, and I also like what I can gather about their “mission” / purpose. I choose to go with their VPN specifically to support them. However, after one year of using this VPN, I’m finally going to start paying less money for a VPN that actually works. As of the date of this review, I find that whether or not you’ll be able to access websites or stream media / music with the Mozilla VPN turned on is about the equivalent of rolling dice. Will it work today? Maybe. Tomorrow? Maybe not. There is no consistency and therefore no reliability with this app. Tech support will reply, but with more questions than answers. I paid way too much to have so little benefit from this, and it costs more than other, top-rated VPNs. Good luck and also shame on you, Mozilla. This is taking your reputation way down. I do hope it improves, but not at mine / others’ exense..Version: 2.6.2

No good for iOS or iPadOSHalf of the time when it shows an established connection, there is no access to the internet.Version: 2.9

Not worth the moneyNone of my applications that i use for streaming worked with this vpn. a free trail would have been nice to have before paying anything. why have a free trail only for 12month subscriptions? seems senseless to me. have for all and let users decide after. edit july 20th 2022 i reported the issues i’ve been having too support. although support was pretty quick responding, the suggestions provided made things even worse! AppStore stopped working, i had no connection at all over my wifi or roamin data. the premium is not worth the value. the service evidently is not mature enough..Version: 2.8.2

No Connect on DemandThe Mozilla VPN app does not support Connect On Demand. This is the feature that will automatically reconnect to the server upon disconnect. For a privacy-oriented VPN, this is a non-starter as it means you can leak your connect any time the VPN disconnects. I don’t know why the app doesn’t support it considering Mullvad does (and Mozilla is piggybacking on Mullvad servers). I want to support Mozilla through this app, but without this feature, I’ll be returning to Mullvad directly..Version: 2.1.0

Not freeWhy is Mozilla charging?.Version: 2.17.1

Fast but has issues with turning off randomlyI like the simplicity and speed for my basic VPN needs. However, about half of the time I check the app (a few times a week), the VPN has turned off without my doing anything, and there is no way to tell how long it’s been off for. Am I supposed to leave the app open all the time? Big fan of Mozilla but not a fan of this product until this issue is fixed..Version: 1.0.6
