ZOE Health Study for Positive User Reviews

Personal health questionsIt’s great to have this research and I thoroughly recommend taking part and downloading this app. The more people that do, the more useful it becomes, and I am pleased that I can contribute towards something that may help us all. The only small issue I have is concerning the questions about ones health - they do not allow for any grey areas. For instance, I don’t have chronic bronchitis or lung disease etc., diagnosed but am prone to chest infections; I wouldn’t say I have asthma but occasionally have problems due to the chest infections and seasonal conditions; I have an inhaler prescribed for these issues but only very occasionally need to use it. The questions require yes or no answers which would not be accurate in my case, but it is also inaccurate to NOT be able to provide this information. There needs to be some change here, if possible, just in case this health information becomes relevant..Version: 1.9

App works wellThe app is simple and truly takes less than a minute. I enter my info in daily and do not over think it. Do I have a sore throat? Yes. Is it seasonal allergies? Maybe, but they are not asking that. Over the span of weeks or months, a few days with covid19-like symptoms that do not progress will be a blip. I hope entering this info will help track the virus and make up for the lack of mass testing available in the US. I have not had issues with the app freezing but the “done” button at the end could be bigger. Maybe that has already been fixed in the update..Version: 1.6

Great App - would like to be able to see more trendsI think this is amazing especially as you got it up and running in such a short space of time. I would however like to see more trends of what it’s doing throughout areas of the country and also maybe it could be combined with a symptom checker to give you an idea of whether you have the virus or not - luckily I have felt mostly fine so far but there have been a few days where I have had body aches or other random symptoms which have then gone on to disappear later so for me an idea of whether I have suffered a mild form or whether it’s just my age would be good - I think also maybe make it clearer when you need to report if you don’t feel right because I have thought I should report how I feel but because the symptoms are so bad for some people I think - I only have a mild “whatever” (whether it’s aches or upset stomach) so I don’t need to report it - it’s whether that Information would be of any help to you - brilliant work thought - Thank you 😊.Version: 1.6

Of great value, thank you ZOEAlthough I was frequently annoyed by the narrow limitations of multiple choice answers, I never-the-less have great respect for this app and it’s aims. We have all been trying to find a reasoned way through the conflicting evidence of this pandemic and this app has been a rock of evidence based information. And I have found this app to be the only source of information I felt confident in listening to. There have been a few blind alleys but these have all been reviewed and addressed. I would recommend anyone to join this app so that we can prepare people for any future pandemic. Also this pandemic is not over yet and it only needs the wrong variant to have another stab at hitting us - just as the second wave of the Spanish flu did a century ago. Let’s hope we have a bright and healthy future and we can support that future with the information gathered by ZOE..Version: 2.6.0

My small contribution to understanding more about COVID-19When I learnt about this app, I signed up immediately. It feels good to be part of a bigger picture in understanding this virus. Since we can’t all be tested at the moment, this is a good way to log people’s symptoms, if any, and understand the symptoms & spread of COVID-19. Completing this app takes between 10 & 30 seconds depending on if you have symptoms or not and you do get a reminder to complete it once a day should you forget. Once testing becomes available to all, it would be good to understand whether someone actually had COVID-19 or not and whether they had the same symptoms others have reported or different ones. For example I had a bad cold & sore throat for 15 days. I’m sure it was just a bad cold but if I get tested and discover that I did have COVID-19 then it will mean my symptoms were no different to a common cold and this may have further consequences going forward. Well done to the team who put this app together so quickly and I hope it helps with the identification of this virus and towards finding a vaccine..Version: 1.6

Great Research ToolFrom an end user perspective, this app is a great tool for researchers. It gives them the ability to safely collect data from huge pool of participants, geographically. It does have its limitations where certain demographics of potential participants are concerned. Some of those limitations are offset, hopefully, by giving participants the ability to report for additional multiple people under individual profiles, though I wonder exactly how effective it may be in reaching those who are living in poverty and/or living in rural areas with little to no Internet access. Anyway, the app is extremely easy to use. Set up and daily use for end users is simple and fast, and I’m personally grateful for the daily push reminders. The only thing I’m confused about is, I thought I read somewhere that it would ask questions about the participants’ nutrition, diet, and exercise, but it did not prompt me to supply that information and I have not seen any place where I could provide it. Overall though, I think this is a great app with a great purpose. Thank you!.Version: 1.10

Great but needs a tweakOur household use the app & generally it’s really good. Really positive moves to see the questions being added to as researchers learn more. It’s failure for me is in not capturing historic symptoms (dated back to a key point in time perhaps). The app got released as my partner & I were on our final days of self isolation having both presented symptoms. As time has progressed & more reports from confirmed cases have come out, the more we suspect we have had the virus but without testing it’s not possible to know. We had progression of symptoms that haven’t been captured by the app because they occurred before it was rolled out - so our case will look to researchers as if we had a mild dry cough when infact we had a productive cough, very heavy catarrh, sore throat, developed into a dry cough, chest heaviness, wheezy breathing, fatigue, headaches, nausea & those symptoms yo’yo’d in severity across 8 or 9 days. If we did have it, it also suggests it can present symptoms earlier than the dry cough & people being contagious before that symptom appears..Version: 1.6

UX design fantasticKudos to everyone who created this app. When you take time to figure out the button placement (no matter which phase of the vaccination program you’re on), you have a complete team. I.e No matter if you’ve had the jab or not, the default buttons you need to tap are on, are in the same place. This makes it easy to log very quickly on a daily basis. Only one problem. Twice since May 2020 the app has stopped daily notifications (last one in past 2 weeks). I rely on the alerts and have just missed 5 days of reporting. iOS settings all ok and app settings still set on. Only way to restart alerts is to delete the app and reinstall. From experience, typically this sort of issue is very hard to find. THANKS FOR IMPLEMENTING THIS: MAP IS ONE SCREEN BACK - AT THE TOP, PERFECT. One lowly request: I like to look at the UK map after each report, to see how my area is doing. Would be great to take me straight there or have a button - and zoom in on my area based on postcode. Not very important but would be the icing on the cake. Congrats to the team. Take them out for meal/drinks when you can!.Version: 2.6.0

Great way to help research... though alerts don’t work.I’ve been a part of this study for months now. I’ve always been passionate about contributing to science in some way if I can. My only complaint about this app is I’ve noticed my phone no longer alerts me as a reminder to log. With any study, especially one that relies on data entered by its subjects, this is a huge potential for losing out on important information. Unfortunately, I didn’t see a place to contact support on the website, so I’m resorting to a review. I’m hoping someone reads this and will take a look!.Version: 2.1.0

JessisuNPAs a health care provider who is unable to work right now (due to a car accident and trauma to my brain) I feel like this system gives me an opportunity to help in a way that I am able. It is frustrating to have no access to my gym and be unable to sit down at the coffee shop I love. I can’t imagine how terrible everything feels to those who have symptoms, or those who are positive, or those who have lost someone. I honor the health care workers who have dedicated themselves to being on the the front lines..Version: 1.6

App makes me feel I’m helping in small wayI have encouraged many of my friends and family to use this app and most have. Those who haven’t are continuing to work with young children so understandably they are the ones who haven’t had time. I forewarned people that there were a few pages of questions initially but then just two questions daily in most cases if no change in health. Having read a previous review it did mention that someone thought they had had virus but wasn’t tested. There was nowhere to record possible infection even if not verified. I too believe that I had the symptoms with dry cough and extreme lethargy for weeks and my dog had dry cough for weeks with me too. However this was in January/February before I saw any mention of Covid-19. I have seen others online mention similar symptoms. This may be unrelated but I wonder whether this is something to investigate possibly in the future. That aside I’m pleased to help in such a small way. I’m doing volunteering work and would like to do as much as I can to help. This app makes me feel better on a national scale..Version: 1.6

Needs to ask if you think you have already had itI agree with another reviewer in that I started using the app just as myself and my family (we think) were getting over having had covid. So we ticked some of the boxes the first week with some lasting symptoms like a sore throat, but have since felt healthy so are reporting healthy. Had I answered the questions the previous week or fortnight I’d have ticked almost all the symptoms boxes. This means there is no record anywhere that we may have already had the disease, as the app launched a little too late for us - the real numbers of who has had covid may therefore be lost in the U.K., given the lack of testing as well. Perhaps, as another user suggested, the app could ask if you think you’ve already had it and/or when you say you’re feeling ok, it could then HK through to ask whether you have experienced certain symptoms eg. in the last month or in the last six weeks? At least the data will be captured somewhere then..Version: 1.6

I’m happy to participate in the COVID Symptom Study! The app is simple to use and allows you to receive daily reminders to report your health status each day. A diet study is also included though I’ve been unable to complete the study because I had an old phone and the app repeatedly froze in the ‘daily diet’ section of the study. I reported the problem to the developer each time it occurred. I now own a newer phone so perhaps I’ll be able to get through the full diet study now. I encourage others to participate in this worthwhile study..Version: 2.0.2

Good but could be betterCreating this app is the right way to go. I have one reservation; when asked if you think you’ve had the coronavirus, it should be subject to more than 1 month previous, it should be at anytime in 2020. The reason I say this is, I am 98% sure that myself and my daughter had the coronavirus end of Jan beginning Feb 2020. We had all the symptoms, but the criteria at the time to be tested was if you had traveled from China or had been in contact with someone who had a positive coronavirus test result. My doctor at the time believed the coronavirus was already in the UK. I don’t claim to be doctor or a epidemiologist, but surely living in a world where viruses can spread so easily and quickly with add of travel and that we know that there is a high possibility that China had possible cases as early as last September 2019, surely it wouldn’t take much for the rest of the world to have had the virus early 2020. This being I was only able to report if I thought I had the virus 1 month previous when starting the app..Version: 1.7

Nurse PractitionerI am contributing to this because I had wondered if any type of research was being done to gather the different symptoms. The only clues I could get about the range of symptoms was from occasional news articles descriptions. I had had a stem cell infusion 12 months ago , and I believe that made my range of symptoms different. I had 2 negative nasal swabs. I felt the stem cells may have made my body’s reaction different. I had nothing but a fever for 3 weeks. Then I began having some respiratory symptoms. My family felt I should stop isolating from them. Somehow the nasal swabs did not pick up the RNA to make my tests positive. But, I didn’t want to take the chance of infecting my family..Version: 1.9

Please Do ThisEven if you healthy please do this app I live in a huge apartment complex in which a man died five day’s before the first official COVID-19 fatality for our county. He wasn’t tested at hospital because hadn’t been out of the country in years, he went in with chest pains & 104 temperature on a Saturday and died on a Monday. His widow shared the horrific details with me on the Wednesday and we hugged etc. Within 8 days I developed symptoms but couldn’t and still can’t get a test. 3 weeks later I find this app and I am grateful that data is being collected without bias of location, age, travel history, insurance etc. I believe the biggest exposure and spread of CoViD19 happened a week before my neighbor died when 20,000 people attended Kobe Bryant’s memorial service, they wiped eyes and noses without social distancing for 2 hours in LA Staple Center then majority rode metro & rideshares Uber / lyft after the event. If anyone who was at the memorial service is contemplating getting this app please please please do the inquiry.Version: 1.6

More options for fatigue especially to flag post viral fatigueI think this is a great idea and well done for doing this really important work. I have been logging my symptoms since early in my Covid illness and I’m finding that there’s not really enough grades of options in some of the fields now that I’m improving. In particular, for fatigue, there is quite a lot between mild fatigue, and struggling to get out of bed. I can get out of bed now, but I wouldn’t describe my condition as being mild fatigue, it’s still pretty debilitating, and I’m actually looking forward to only having mild fatigue! Could you add an option of moderate fatigue? I can get out of bed and make myself tea or have a shower, but this makes me so tired I then have to go and lie or sit down again, I don’t consider this to be mild. I’m days if not weeks away from getting back to anything like normal. There is speculation that some people will go on to suffer from long term post viral chronic fatigue after Covid. I think this app could be able to spot this trend if you adapted the questions. Could you also add muscle weakness as an option. Now that I am able to move further from my bed, I’m finding that my legs and arms are pathetically weak compared to normal. I expect that’s partly deconditioning from having spend two weeks in bed, but it may be also part of post viral fatigue and is worth tracking..Version: 1.6

Well done and please enhanceWell done for creating this app, there is so much unknown about mild sufferers i.e those who haven’t needed to contact NHS, and this is a perfect way to collect this data. I’m worried there could be long term health consequences for these sufferers. When collecting results from large numbers, clearly free text options are not statistically reportable and are therefore only useful for the purpose of enhancing the app to provide more ‘closed’ questions. I’ve certainly had persistent symptoms since Feb, never experienced before but are not typical of Covid, though they are respiratory and gastrointestinal so could be related. I’d be so interested to find out if others have experienced similar symptoms. This is an enhancement I would love to see, along with more closed questions which could be path led if you didn’t want users to have too many questions. I would consider my problems chronic rather than acute, having had them for 7 weeks now. It would be good to collect more timeframe information too..Version: 1.8

Good Information to Collect/ Trouble with AppI have been reporting everyday on Zoe since the beginning of the app and the COVID pandemic. Recently I have had to delete and download the app to get it to work right. When I start to report I can only go so far before being blocked at “report a new vaccination”. I have reported my latest vaccination a couple of months ago and have no new vaccinations. The app won’t let me go to the next screen until Input in a date. Frustrating. I have not found contact information to report the problem so I am hoping Zoe reads this comment. It is a good app for a good cause..Version: 5.0.2

Why aren't periods an option? This app is great, I think the method of setting up a usual self profile is really helpful for reporting, and makes it easy to say when you feel something is different. There is an issue I have with it though - when given options as to why you "feel different from your usual self", it lists options such as injury, medication, stress, sleep problems etc, but being on your period is not available ad a choice... This is frustrating as a lot of the monthly symptoms I experience that deviate from my usual self occur because of/coinciding with my period (abdominal pain, bloating, irritability, anxiety, low mood...). I'm sure there are many people reporting on Zoe who are experiencing the same frustration -why aren't periods an option? I think this app is a great initiative and will continue to report, however putting "other" every time I get a period related symptom seems illogical to me, particularly as it's a very common cause of some very common symptoms..Version: 2.7.1

Ask when symptoms began?Hi I think I had Covid-19 in January on a trip with my husband when we both fell seriously I’ll with what we thought was the flu in On a fly drive trip to the USA. We ended up having to drive straight to Florida from NJ. I was very unwell indeed with serious chest involvement extreme fever, and my lips went blue. I could not get out of bed for 3 weeks, and used up all of my 4 inhalers and a lot of OTC drugs. My husband was in bed for 2 weeks with slightly lesser symptoms. We returned to the UK in February, and have been under the weather ever since, with no sign of bacterial involvement. I still had a compromised left lung on my return to the UK in February. My husband still had a congested chest with very little sputum (very little white frothy) We discovered the Covid-19 epidemic on our return to the UK and shortly afterwards went into voluntary self-isolation as we were still both unwell. These are the symptoms I/he have been describing on your App. We are NOW on the mend, but my contention is that we should have been able to tell you a timeline from symptom start..Version: 1.6

Could be more efficientFirst, I applaud this app and its intent. However, I have a couple suggestions for improvement to make it more user-friendly. Whenever I report, I have to tap the screen about five times: Once to say I want to report, once to tell you who I am, no new tests, no vaccine, I feel fine. And each of those times comes with a slight lag time. I think you could reduce that (for most of us) to a single tap. My guess is that 99.9 percent of users of this app are single users: not more than one person. OK, maybe I’m exaggerating but it’s on a phone and most of us have our own phones. Some people are doing it for their families, I guess. So my suggestion is that you eliminate the “Choose who is reporting” screen if there’s only one person. You could have the “Add a Person” button at the end of the process. Second: I for one (and probably most people) have ZERO changes day to day. We have no new test or vaccine or symptoms. So simplify: I want to be able to open the app and tap a button that says NO CHANGES. With another button that says: NEW test, vaccine, or symptoms..Version: 2.2.0

Charlie ErcillaI think the app is a good idea but it would be more useful if in the future it had a colour system. Red , amber and green .That way if someone is not infected the app would be green if the person walks or approached a person with covid 19 it starts flashing in amber and if they get to close or come in contact with a person that’s infected the app turns red and tells user to self isolate for 7 days after that app turns green again . It could then protect everyone and help them move around freely once the lockdown is eased and prevent further future infections. Also potentially stop infected people entering shops , buses , trains and other public places if the app triggers off an alarm at these places so everyone is kept safe in the future .As till a safe vaccine is developed or heard immunity this will be a reoccurring problem as even people that are immune could spread a new infection by touching any objects when venturing outdoors ..Version: 1.8

IsolationWith regards to the questions about isolation, how often is ‘rarely’? For example, if you leave the house every day for exercise (e.g. because you don’t have your own outside space such as a garden), is that still rarely (option #2)? Otherwise you are forced to choose another option such as the work option (daily - even though you’re not going to work) but that mentions coming into contact with lots of people, which isn’t necessarily the case when you’re exercising outdoors daily (e.g. walking in an uncrowded open space). You need an option for someone who leaves the house every/most days for exercise who doesn’t come into contact with lots of people. Added to this, the same person will leave the house to go to the supermarket once or twice a week. Many people who live alone in a flat will fall into this routine of behaviour but I don’t see how you will capture this behaviour in the isolation options you have offered. Rarely needs to be quantified and other isolation options added..Version: 1.7

Worthy researchResearch on how this virus attacks on different people and the duration is valuable to have for the future. I highly recommend everyone completing this survey. As I have an primary immune deficiency, autoimmune pancreatitis and autoimmune hepatitis. These are where your own bodies immune system attacks itself. I also do not produce antibodies to fight off infections. Kind of like the adult version of boy in the bubble. As I have had several abdominal pains for more than 2 months, my doctors believe I might have COVID-19. Since Monday, April 6: my chest became very tight and breathing became more difficult. I took the test here in West Los Angeles at Veterans Center on Wednesday, April 8. I have still not received any results. So the news is not right. You can’t even call..Version: 1.6

Please Fix Bizarre Supplemental Study LoopI have used this app regularly for two years routine COVID status reporting and been very pleased with its stability and intuitive UI. I would be happy to participate in the relatively new supplemental health studies. But when offered three countries in which to participate, the app selected the UK for me regardless of whether I selected one of the other two countries (I am not in the UK). And now the app refuses to do anything other than to take me to pages to answer an irrelevant (to me) UK questionnaire. I cannot even get to the old simple page of Report My Daily Symptoms as I have been doing for two years. So because of this major glitch, the academics are not only missing my supplemental information, they also are missing the routine COVID reporting that I had been doing. Please fix this..Version: 3.0.4

COVID 19 Symptom TrackerThe app is very easy to open, enter basic personal data and submit daily reports. What it does not do is allow you to access hour profile and review data pre previously recorded. For example I would like the verify the name of the research project (MEC ) that I have participated in for decades. Since this is a very new application action launched to track participant symptoms it’s probably a bare bones design to meet minimum reporting requirements NOW. Hopefully an updated version will be released soon which will allow participants greater visibility into collected data..Version: 1.6

A worthy research effort, but missing a few thingsFirst, I’m glad there is an app developed for tracking & research of COVID-19. It was simple to set up an account & allowed me to also add a profile for my 90 year old mother. I found the process easy to log in daily with my symptoms (feeling well thankfully at this point). I DO recommend people sign up as it could be helpful in understanding more about the disease & how it spreads. However, they are missing some questions/info that I feel should be asked & included: 1) It should be tracking your potential exposure by monitoring what you’ve been doing/ where you’ve been (I.e., at home, getting outside/exercising, shopping, visiting friends/family, going to work, social distancing or gathering in groups, etc), 2) include symptoms such as lower grade fever and loss of taste & smell 2) asking more specifically when/where you traveled 3)city/county where you live 4) whether you’ve been wearing mask while shopping/going out in public 5) if you do suspect you have COVID-19, have you consulted with a doctor or self-quarantined. Overall, it’s simple & may provide some useful data and worth participating..Version: 1.7

Feedback would be appreciatedI have had a sore throat, persistent cough and fatigue for over 3 weeks now. I’m taking it that I don’t have or have never had Coronavirus as I have not had a high temperature. I am asthmatic and have severe sleep apnoea amongst other things and presume that had I had or have the virus then these would have been affected. The app only asks you on a daily basis how you are feeling but there is nowhere to enter how long you have had the symptoms and based on the information they have received so far, it would be useful to have feedback as to whether or not, the app feels you should seek further medical advice or self isolate for longer than I already have based in the information I have entered. Others may have had the same or similar symptoms over a similar period and either gone on to see these symptoms disappear over (X) period or gone on to display further symptoms and eventually contracted the virus. It would be great if information and feedback could be both ways but I do applaud what they are doing..Version: 1.6

Lysa1rnI have only been on here a few days . I think overall it is a user friendly app. I would like to be able to go back and see if I put all my important info in , but I can’t see that I can do that . There are a few questions, for example fatigue, that I feel there could be an answer in between the 2 choices given . I have shared this hoping more people in my smaller community will see the importance of this . I missed out on another similar “ study ” following Covid pts long term trying to learn more to gain knowledge , to be able to pinpoint treatment , ect . Thank you for all of you that are working on this , it’s so appreciated!.Version: 1.10

Kudos for trying but tracking actual symptoms would be betterI really like that that they’re trying to track CoVID. However, if they’d go thru a list of symptoms each day, regardless of someone saying they feel fine, they might get more valuable data. For example, I feel perfectly fine today. However, my nose is a little runny. So I didn’t report it. I’d get rid of that question all together, or at least put that in with the other “symptoms”. I gave 4 stars because at least they’re trying. Sincerely, I’d be happy to help them (I’m an RN of 29 years) redo their questions to make it more pertinent..Version: 2.1.0

More detail required or the ability to feedbackI agree entirely with a previous reviewer. We are a family of 4 (2 adults and 2 teenage boys) and believe that (to a lessor or greater degree) we have all taken it - and furthermore we have all had different symptoms. My own observation is that (assuming we have had COVID 18) it targets your health ‘weakness’; I have experienced tremendous headaches, my partner back ache / kidney issues, but both of us sore throats, a loss of taste and smell. Nothing in the application reflects that we are isolated as 4 and that whilst I am completing this as an individual three further people in our household may have been had it. Nor does it really reflect the timeframe. I still have a sore throat but 3 weeks on this appears to be my only symptom and I otherwise (finally feel better) with energy levels returning. I can’t express this anywhere. However I am in the fullest support of the technology being used at all to try and gain a UK wide picture to inform research, care and decision making. So well done on that front..Version: 1.6

Easy app; glad to support scienceI find the app very easy to use, but have one suggestion for the days when “I’m not feeling quite right”. A week ago, I developed acute, severe shoulder pain. It was bad enough to go to Urgent Care and get checked out. While I waited to be seen, I started to fill out the app. Of course I checked the box saying I wasn’t feel great. I expected the series of questions, but I was quite surprised to see no option to let you know that whatever was wrong was in no way related to Covid. I finally quit answering questions because I couldn’t find an option that allowed me to be truthful. After I was back home with a diagnosis of severe rotator cuff calcification tendinitis, I finally found an option that said something like: have seen medical professionals and was not diagnosed with Covid. It would have been nice to see an option far earlier in the questions like: am seeking medical support for ortho, chronic, or other issue not related to (list of C-19 symptoms)..Version: 1.10

After having COVID this app puts my mind at easeAfter having COVID I rushed my recovery because I felt physically fine but emotionally I’m a wreck because everyone at work knew I was positive when I got back to work and now I’m having panic attacks when someone won’t listen to what I’m saying because they asked too many questions and didn’t listen to my answer. (I told work they could tell people so that they knew why I was gone and that was a mistake). I just feel like now when I put on my mask and have to go indoors people are looking at me like I’m crazy but I’ve had and done want to get it again and I’m a healthcare worker so I want to help others more than myself. (Super bad paranoia right now). And every morning I get up I still run through the symptoms of COVID so this app makes me feel like I’m not crazy cause I’ll hopefully help someone else!.Version: 1.10

Isabelle ThedoggGreat idea for App. We need it. Let’s get this out around the world. 1) Agree with other reviews-include some (simple) symptom parameters 2) Add question regarding ‘Rate your potential for exposure since previous report’ as contact tracing is critical. Defining when potential contact exposure increases can save lives. 3) Those utilizing should see results. 4) Promote the legitimacy of the study from Nurses Health Study, Kings College and other partners, decreases reluctance to sign up. 5) Absolutely protect privacy of those who participate, and emphasize it. Thanks to all who are contributing and those who developed this opportunity. Stay safe. Stay well..Version: 1.6

Great appThis is a really simple-to-use app for daily reporting to help track the spread of COVID-19 - just two or three quick questions if you’re feeling fine, with more detailed questions if you’re feeling “not quite right”. My only wish for the app is that it was possible to answer questions / give information about symptoms that predate your use of the app: I first downloaded the app a few days after I’d recovered from an illness that I felt could well have been a mild form of COVID-19 (sudden severe fatigue, burning eyes, sore throat, mild fever, pressure headache, loss of appetite - felt like no one illness I’ve ever had, but like bits from several different ones!) but as I was (thankfully) only mildly affected, I’ve had no test so don’t know if that was COVID-19 or not, and the app only asks how you’re feeling on the day you answer, not whether you’ve had symptoms in the past. Maybe an additional first page for new downloads for people to fill in any previous experience? Either way, it’s a good app for helping in some small way in the fight against COVID-19..Version: 1.6

FeedbackI have been using the covid19 symptom tracker daily for about a week. Easy peasy. Happy to provide data for science. Two issues from today’s experience. 1) Today I was given the option to take a survey of lifestyle activities, which I chose to do. However, part way through, I got stuck. (I believe it was the diet and alcohol consumption page.) I answered all the questions, but the app wouldn’t let me proceed, indicating I needed to complete the questions. I reviewed all my answers on that page and found none unanswered and saw no specific indication of which question/answer was not satisfactory. So I backed out of the survey. 2) I was a little dismayed at the options to either choose to (participate in the survey) or (opt not to AND don’t ask me again). How about an option to not do now but ask me later..Version: 1.10

Fantastic idea - let's all pitch inThis is a great app for crowdsourcing data about COVID-19 hotspots. I encourage everyone to pitch in to defeat this pandemic by using this app. The app is backed by Massachusetts General Hospital and faculty from Harvard Medical School, Harvard's Chan School of Public Health, and Kings College London, so there are credible researchers behind it. You can also visit the app website to see the project's datasets that you are helping to create. Incidentally, I also recommend the Kinsa app, which crowdsources body temperature data in a similar way. You don't have to have a Kinsa smart thermometer to use it; you can use your own manual thermometer..Version: 1.6

Problem with the appThere is no way that I can tell to report a problem with the app so I am reporting it here in reviews! Neither on my IPhone or my iPad can I easily put in the date of my COVID text. The date scroll only shows June through December when you are on 2020 (and it does not actually show 2020 - you have to assume it is in the slot before 2021 but it does not show up. Also no actual numbers for dates show up either so you have to scroll through and by trial and error do it several times until you get it right. The first time it asked me the date I gave up after trying several times figuring I would email about the problem but looking all through the app, (and even on the app support tab on the App Store, there is still no way to send an email. So I hope someone sees this and fixes it. I think the app is a great idea and I really agree with the idea behind it but it does need to work in order to get accurate data..Version: 1.8

Almost a Good AppI think the concept of tracking how people is sound and support the premise of this app when it comes to tracking COVID-19; however, it is complicated to set it up and several of my friends tried and abandoned it because they couldn’t figure it out. Primarily, it appears a catch all for several different studies and you’re given very little guidance as to which study you should be reporting. Consequently, you just pick one of the dozen or so listed at random. I’m not sure I’m reporting to a COVID-19 study or heart disease, diabetes, cancer, or otherwise..Version: 1.9

A very worthy cause!I have found this site very helpful. The app is super easy to install and all you have to do is answer a few questions each day so the medical community can track our city’s exposure to COVID-19. A few more questions could also be helpful like tracking whether we have been around people who either have the virus or have been exposed; basic habits that could expose one’s self. Other than that, I find it interesting and it takes no time at all to check in each day..Version: 1.8

Great but would like to see about co-morbiditiesThis is a simple app to track the outbreak, and with over 2 million participants the data collected will be rich. I’m happy to participate. However as someone with a potential risk factor (Crohn’s disease), I would like to see more data collected (if only opt-in) about potential risk factors. For instance, the medication I’m on is thought to be an anti-inflammatory and mild immunosuppressant. Perhaps it could be used in medical trials to treat patients whose immune system overwhelms their body when infected with coronavirus. Or perhaps it could suppress the immune system too much and make Crohn’s sufferers on this medication more vulnerable than initially thought. With so many participants in this study it’s possible to get meaningful information about all sorts of co-morbidities. Or even things like blood type could be relevant. This information should be collected..Version: 1.6

Has got steadily better from rocky startWhen this first came out it was not very slick but I stuck at it because of the importance of tracking Covid. This app is now first rate and has used the data it collects to detected many symptoms of Covid. Many Science firsts. Sadly the UK government has never been fully behind this team. At first reacting as if they were in competition with other more favoured tracking systems - they weren’t. The worse thing is that the UK government have often ignored the symptoms detected by this app and not changed their advice based on the data that they have analysed. Now they have decided to stop the minimal funding it gets even though there this potential for this app to provide an early warning system for the next strain. Madness! I will stick with it though. It’s easy to use, has much wider health aims and is a great conduit for citizen science. It takes so little time to report why wouldn’t you use it?.Version: 2.7.1

Just one suggestionThis app is great so far. I just wish that when opening the app, the “home page” could be the page that tells me the number of cases in my area. A page that is similar to what I saw last after reporting my daily symptoms. Unfortunately, I hit done after seeing the numbers and the results and I can’t seem to find this info again. I hope this can be done so that when leaving the house I can see the numbers right away without re-reporting every time..Version: 1.10

Great & Improvement requestThis is great idea and everyone should contribute. If it could be improve like going back to some answers, specially on day one, to the original questions. I overlooked some answers about some research volunteer work that I did at the hospital. I am fine now, but not sure if I have gotten exposed to it, since I had some very sharp pain symptoms that lasted a second or two, for only 3 days, hard to explain. The app could improve by adding more futures/ past recent symptoms such as the one I described, that are not recorded on the app. (Or being able to go back to answers those original questions).Version: 1.6

Agree with great idea needs more developmentI too believe I’ve had Cov19 already. Medical records record my illness, as well as, symptoms were identical to how Cov19 is described. I think this app needs to develop a questionnaire asking us whether we’ve had it, date, and what symptoms we had. It’s a frustrating and meaningless exercise to be utterly controlled in lockdown by a government ignorant of full facts, and making inadequate effort to inform themselves of the true situation. I’m right in saying efforts are inadequate. Results speak louder than words. Bumbling fools is another description. Most of us are already immune to Cov19, could he back at work, and can intelligently work out how to practice safe contamination avoidance practices without a Nanny or Paternal controlling incompetent State. What NOBODY is testing is Vit D levels in people who succumb to Cov19 & die. I bet if VitD levels were tested this would also illuminate research results. Tx 4 your App. Good start to what’s needed..Version: 1.6

Great appI have just been participating for 4 days now but I’m still happy to continue. I feel it is important work to do. I have forwarded to several friends in my area in hopes they will participate since we are on the upward curve. I am a healthcare worker who works remotely for now. I have seen an increase in the number of cases presenting to my hospital and see that it is really effecting a large number of the Latino community and these individuals are very sick when they seek treatment. Usually slow to care for all the myriad of reasons underserved populations seek care late. And they are young 18-50 yr age groups and very ill. Most needing hospitalization. So we must do what we can to stop the spread. And this my very small part in helping us as a country move forward. Thanks for your help keep up the great work. And adding additional questions as others have suggested would garner more info..Version: 1.9

Great to be part of the study, however...It’s great to be part of such a large study, and hopefully help the understanding of COVID. However, I would make a couple of suggestions- there is an option for ‘healthcare worker’ only- I am a social care worker, so come into contact with service users daily. Even though I said I’m not a healthcare worker, it says I am when they ask my questions. Might be good to be able to select different careers that have a lot of face-to-face contact and so put us more at risk, rather than just healthcare. Also, I’m a bit of a night owl and there have been a couple of occasions I’ve went on after midnight to log how I’ve been feeling and it’s the next day on the app and I can’t go back to the previous day- quite frustrating. I wouldn’t recommend the app to anyone who can become anxious about their health etc because it really gets you focussing on how you’re feeling and looking at all the symptoms to choose from can make you panic. Also don’t look at the questions submitted to Tim Spector by app users- they will freak you out, lol..Version: 2.5.0

Valuable dataAfter a few initial problems getting signed in at the start I managed to get going with the app and now complete it religiously every day. I do feel that the question regarding whether you “guess” you might have had the virus could be more in depth e.g symptoms experienced at the time, duration of same, whether other family members felt the same and crucially when on the dateline you felt you may have contracted the virus, if indeed you had. This leads on to lack of testing of course and whilst I agree mass testing of the entire population is impossible, some form of test to ascertain if those with very mild symptoms have actually had the virus would surely be a huge help. On a personal level, far from making me complacent, if I knew I’d already had the virus I would certainly be less anxious and feel very much less vulnerable generally. All in all a good monitoring tool and hopefully invaluable to research etc for the future..Version: 1.6

Further questioning neededA great idea and in theory would be great to help and offer insight but as many have commented already, it would be useful to ask whether anyone has already had any symptoms, how long for and have options to add in extra information besides just ticking boxes. I am currently on day 20 of feeling ill, having been through cold symptoms which got better to flu symptoms within about 5 days which lasted approx 3-4 days to a delaying congestion and headache, reoccuring sore throat and cold like symptoms again and had other symptoms not listed in your options given. Also although I understand your medical 'questionnaire' asks these particular questions to reach desired data collected some of the questions didn't allow but just yes or no answers and there may be more to a person's circumstances like the questions if you have particular conditions like kidney failure, no but I have one kidney, have you been to hospital no but spoke to a gp who suspects i have covid 19, have you been tested no because my symptoms weren't urgent enough.. Some widening of your questions and more options and / or free text boxes for answers may give you a lot more insight into people's actual experiences with or without symptoms. Equally though, I hope whatever you do manage to collect serves some purpose to help understand this virus better to be able to find ways to beat it..Version: 1.0

Simple, fast and important! This app is so very important for everyone to use. It takes just a few seconds each day - less than a minute to report. I report for three members of my family daily, which takes less than a minute. If ALL of us would contribute just one minute a day to report how we are feeling, we could conquer this virus! This app enables a study of where the virus is and how to contain it's spread. We can beat this thing if we will simply join together in the effort. Imagine America safe again. It can happen if we all do our part. Please get this app and help yourself and us all!.Version: 1.9

Great app, but needs a few more thingsApp is easy to use, I spent one minute updating how I feel everyday it’s that quick. But it would be nice if I could also write about if I went outside that day to run errands or something. I would also have liked to add more health conditions, if I have something that’s not the regular high risk category it could still make Covid more dangerous or complex, such as blood disorders or autoimmune diseases, things not usually considered the average high risk pre-existing conditions but can become data points as we learn more about Covid..Version: 1.10

Works fine, could be MUCH simplerThe app is fine, it’s not a big deal to enter the data daily and I want to do my part. But it’s really irritating when you know there’s a much simpler interface possible yet every day I have to hit the same series of buttons. There should be ONE button that says “It’s me, everything is exactly the same as last time, thanks and goodbye“. Please add that button. Of course you’d need another button that says something’s changed, but you know that. In the meantime I’ll try to soldier on..Version: 2.6.0

Alex CI think it would’ve helpful for a question asking do you think you have had C19. I believe I had this virus starting Xmas day 2019. I am a reasonably fit and young 72 yrs of age with minor health problems and have had “flu” a number of times in my life. This was totally different. It started being very tired, I thought it was because I was busy for Xmas so I didn’t note the exact number of days before the dry cough started and temperature started but it came on very quickly Xmas Day, but I would guess three or four. Then my throat became extremely sore about two days later and my chest became tight. I had no cold symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose. It became harder and harder to get my breath constantly, with severe coughing and I felt I was choking many times. I by this time had completely lost my voice and I couldn’t swallow because the pain in my throat was severe. It was nearly seven weeks before I was completely well again. My husband who has a heart condition nursed me and was extremly conscious of distancing where possible and wiping surfaces and cleanliness did not catch it. Interestingly he takes from time to time Colchicine for gout as he can’t take antipurinols. I understand a USA study being in progress now are finding that using that drug in minute doses daily may protect from this virus. The results of these tests will be interesting..Version: 1.7

Could benefit from capturing recent historyLike another reviewer, I think this is a great idea and a very useful app. Like her, I also think the addition of an initial section to allow those that feel fairly sure they have had the virus to detail the history of symptoms and timeline would be valuable in giving a better picture of what is/has been going on. This would also give a better picture of whether people can be reinfected, etc., which seems to be unknown at present. Finally, I would encourage researchers to ask for blood type and look into whether some blood types have body chemistry that is more or less prone to catching the virus and also whether some are more prone to be iller than others if they do catch it, which may not necessarily apply to the same groups. All that said I still would recommend this highly and have shared with various others..Version: 1.9

Good appGood app but would be more useful if one app covered household. For example men will not bother but some households have vulnerable people it would be good to feed back collectively. And would give you feedback on more people. I do get a little bored going in and saying...I’m fine! Whereas if I could give feedback across the household that would be more purposeful. Update .....Also Dec 2020 could the map with feedback on new cases in area have a few city or town key points in order to identify near cases. For example we thought we would go to x place for a walk, we had to download another map with key towns and roads etc, with this map info overlaid on your map we could see that we should not go and found more isolated or clear places to obtain our exercise. Just been advised I have not reported for three days. Every day I went into app advised I had already reported. I thought I was going mad but accepted it. I don’t think the report feedback link is functioning as it should..Version: 2.2.0

Please Download and ContributeI think many are able to understand physical ways to give back that assist the medical sciences. We applaud those who donate plasma, organs, bone marrow, and blood. We may even understand the concept of being in a drug trial or donating our antibodies for research. However, my own personal experience trying to share this app with my community is that they did not have the same level of competency and preparedness to understand the value of social inquiry to the medical field. Some folks I asked to participate responded with fear the app could record their personal lives or track their whereabouts. Advocating for use of this app was an eye opening experience for me as someone with a graduate degree from a social research institution of how far we need to go in bringing the public into competency with social research methods. I would not have downloaded this app and would not be participating if the researchers were not vetted, the methods were unsound, or the institutions were not reputable. If that means anything to anyone, I hope it encourages you to please voluntarily participate with the scientific community to help figure this virus out faster than it figures us out. Thank you to those donating their time and symptom feedback for this important work..Version: 1.7

Please do you part!Everyone can help play a small part in tackling the COVID-19 pandemic by downloading this app and encouraging others to do the same. It is only though the collective efforts of every citizen and resident of this country that we can effectively as a nation slow the spread of COVID-19. Like social distancing, contact tracing is a proven method. It’s simple, just download the app and make sure your Bluetooth is switched on. Report how you’re feeling each day. Keep your phone with you when around other people or in public spaces. You will get an alert if anyone you’ve been in contact with has tested positive. This early advantage can save lives and prevent further spread of the disease. Help researchers better understand, track, and contain COVID-19. Every person counts..Version: 1.6

The more the merrierThe fastest way out of this pandemic is with data. This app provides those who need it the most with real-time data about not only who has symptoms or is sick, but who is healthy. In collaboration with the people we trust, namely Mass General Hospital along with Kings College in London and other trusted partners, this app collects and normalizes data in a format consistent with other data collection apps for even better tracking. No personally identifiable data is collected. We all need everyone’s help. This is an easy way to do so..Version: 1.9

Stay safe & help track Covid-19I’m no scientist but I received this APP from a knowledgeable friend who is one. So I’m confident, but then another friend wrote, “What about the guy who gave it to your scientific friend?” I responded “There is no way to know that.” So I agree with a previous reviewer that getting people to sign-up and then to contribute their experience will be difficult. I went further into the site and investigated the research and concluded if this is some nefarious scam they sure went to a whole lot of trouble. I’m in compliance with the modest request to open the APP and report daily..Version: 1.9

SimpleGreat tool to track your symptoms. Some symptoms that are occurring as a result of COVID you are unaware of until you fill out the questionnaire. You can tell that this app was very well thought out leaving no stone unturned. Thank you for being a part of the solution and avoiding the political pitfalls associated with this virus. I am a Marine veteran & a staunch republican. Shame on both parties for turning this into a circus. One side forcing people to get vaccinated another spreading misinformation associated with the vaccine. There is no honor in the way each party has conducted themselves.Version: 2.6.0

Good but some flawsI use this app regularly. But when adding another person to your account it is stuck in adding the person and won’t let you change your mind if you don’t have the persons consent to add their details. Also I am convinced I had this disease mid November 2019 and my friend Christmas Eve. I started with a cough, fever, extreme tiredness, loss of taste and smell and slight tummy upset. There are a growing body of people suspecting they had it between September and December 2019 when it was undetected as the government only starting testing those coming in to the country in 2020. It irks me that the government is not responding to the fact that this disease looks like it has been circulating at a low level for months. We need to understand this to understand how it spreads. There is no facility to add a date in 2019 prior to entering in to the app of when you think you had the disease without it appearing as rogue data. I had to put the time in days, so mine was about 100+ days ago and I wanted to enter the exact date I had symptoms to show the scientists. I went to a theatre show a week earlier mingling with lots of people where I would have caught it and started symptoms a week later so have the exact dates in mid November 2020. I wrote to Tim Spector but heard nothing back..Version: 1.10

Daily notifications not workingI think it’s important to do our part to contribute to research and our understanding of COVID-19. I have been using this app since the beginning and find it easy to use. I recently stopped receiving the daily notifications. I’ve checked my settings to make sure notifications are on. Without the notifications several days may pass before I remember to report my symptoms/no symptoms in the app. Looks like other people are having the same issue. I also upgraded my iPhone X to IOS 14..Version: 1.10

COVID TrackerThis app has made entering the initial setup as painless as possible and from then on, entering the info is limited to 2 simple, straightforward questions to keep our neighbors updated on our status. I submitted my name and address and listed everyone else in the household by whatever I choose to call them, the importance being, that they are a person with the potential of being exposed and then exposing others. Everyone with a computer, tablet, smartphone should be doing this!.Version: 1.9

Missed out on testingAlthough I developed classic coronavirus symptoms back in March, I missed out on being tested as I wasn’t advised by 111 to go to hospital and at the peak of feeling unwell self refer testing was not available to me. So although I feel sure I’ve had the virus, there is still no guarantee and I’m not sure the app captures this. As I started to contribute to the app only recently, I feel there are significant bits of information I haven’t been able to provide due to the lack of questioning about my experience of being unwell from the beginning to what is now proving to be a long and up and down recovery (I’m around 46 days into recovery but still have residual breathing and fatigue issues which are indiscriminately better some days, much worse others). On the whole though, the app is a really good idea and easy to use. People really need to use it from day one of symptoms showing. I hope the data coming out the other end is helping our scientists in their research..Version: 1.9

Great idea but questions need clarificationThis app is wonderful for being able to contribute to the data on Coronavirus. However, it is frustrating that there is not more clear information about what is most helpful and the context of each question. This makes it more difficult to know how best to answer when most questions only allow a binary yes/no response. Needless to say, life and symptoms are not always that easy to report quite so simplistically and having an idea of the context would help in choosing whether yes or no would give the most helpful answer. For example, there is now a question added about whether taking blood pressure medication. I don’t, but that is my choice, it does not mean that I don’t have hypertension. So if I answer “no” as I am not taking bp meds that could falsely lead to an assumption that I don’t have high blood pressure. Also no room for personal history that could be relevant e.g. I had a chest infection a couple of months before latest symptoms and it felt the same. GP could not rule out COVID 19 though and without a test it is impossible to know whether this is a different viral infection or C19..Version: 1.6

Mys TeryI agree with Kathryn ED; this great idea could have been taken a step further with a few more salient questions. Some of those questions could still be asked, ie “Do you think you might have had C19? Why? When? Did you report your symptoms? To whom? Were you tested? Were you refused a test?” together with questions about whether symptoms are still being experienced. I was a researcher; we tried to build a whole picture of wide use in all applications. *** Your app could be linked to a national track & trace system if the jolly Govt. got its act together. I live on the Isle of Wight and used the doomed NHS app; yours is definitely a cut above that! We predicted its failure from day 1 as there was no request to log on unless the user became symptomatic. Users lost interest. I’ve missed very few days of many weeks of using your app. You just need to employ a few more folk so you can ask even more salient questions. GOOD JOB, KC. GO LARGE!.Version: 1.10

Needs customer supportThe intent of this app is terrific. It’s well set up and user friendly. Unfortunately. There have been glitches, and no one to report them up to get them fixed. The most frequent is not knowing if it’s actually recording all data. I report faithfully every day. Sometimes I open my account and it says I last reported 2 days ago, as it did tonight. A couple of weeks ago, it said I last reported several days ago. So no way to know if my entries were recorded. I searched to find a contact. Finally found three names, one a Dr Chan in MA. I called the office and left a message about it with my name and contact information, but never heard back. In addition to teaching, they should be getting feedback on accuracy and there’s to way to do it at the user end..Version: 1.9

Hope it helpsI started completing this report two weeks from the day I first fell ill with what I believe to be COVID 19. By that time I was no longer having the spikes in temperature causing nausea, vomiting and fainting, the headaches, loss of appetite and complete exhaustion which continued in waves for the first week. It was very deceptive because there were times most days when I would think I was getting better then back it would come. The following two weeks I was left with a residual cough and tiredness and it was just these symptoms I was able to report. I am now feeling well and am continuing to report this each day. I think it is also interesting that I developed symptoms 4 days after attending a choir practice (before lockdown). I subsequently found that there were 6/7 other members of the choir who became ill at the same time. They all seem to have had slightly different symptoms for varying lengths of time but one lady has sadly died with Coronavirus. Obviously I cannot be sure I have had the virus unless I have an antibody test. Ashtead over 70.Version: 1.6

For your own healthThis is one of those great times you can participate in your own health and the future because at some point all of this research collected is going to be in written medical journals and papers in the library for other people to study and understand how this virus came about how to deal with any other virus coming about and add it to the information we have going back to the Spanish flu polio measles, etc. everyone Should do this to participate in their own health now and their future health..Version: 2.5.0

A safe, easy way to help fight Covid-19I came across the joint research program sponsored by Mass General Hospital, Harvard, Stamford, and King’s College because I’ve supported other medical research studies. I’m naturally cautious about sharing data, but the research program & app follow very clear rules that have honed by decades of reputable medical research. The details are on any of the primary partners’ websites and detail how all data is protected, using encryption, anonymizing data results, and requiring research partners to agree to follow the same data protections. The app is very easy to use, requires little time, and is a small way (aside from also staying home) to help in the fight against this deadly virus..Version: 1.6

An app we should all be usingI feel a responsibility to use this app in the hope that it can help predict numbers for possible COVID presentations to hospitals and create a map highlighting areas of high Concentration. I realize this will have been set up quickly to illicit a fast response, to grab data from the population. I felt unwell for a week or more but with no specific symptoms that would suggest it was COVID.. and no way of knowing if it had been due to lack of tests (reliable) to find out. I think the questions may be too few when you suggest you are unwell, but I am not a Scientist/ health practitioner so assume you get the data you need or have time for to process. I have recommended it to my friends and family and do think that the females are more likely to use it so I have been needling the males to do so as it is important to have a balanced view of our population. Good luck and thank you for all the work you are doing to try and keep us all safe and well..Version: 1.6

Picture taken? This is a simple to use app and we’re happy to help. However lately when completing our daily report on our iPhones, there is a flash as if our picture is being taken. Anyone else having this happen? It does not seem to happen on the iPad. If in fact a picture is being taken, why? With no advance warning, a person could be in a state of undress and definitely not want a picture taken! Please explain since I was unable to find a place to ask a question under App Support..Version: 1.9

Great to help sort fact from fictionMy only problem is that I went down with Covid on 20th March when tests were only available for Clinical Staff in hospitals. The 111 doctor who phoned me back thought I had Covid because 2days before I went down with it a paper in the American Journal of Gastroenterology from Wuhan had said that in a third of patients the presenting symptoms was diarrhoea. I had this and a high temperature and two days later the cough started and the loss of taste, dreadful headaches and a hoarse voice. Although I was quite poorly for 2weeks I did not get breathless enough to require hospital admission. My decision as I had worked in respiratory disease in Pharma for 40 + years and my late husband was a chest physician. Two months after this I spent a day in our local hospital with a diagnosis on CT scan of non Covid pneumonia. I honestly believe I had Covid as I have had post viral muscle fatigue and it has affected my brain. I should have an antibody test but that may prove negative as reports from Wuhan indicate that only those requiring hospital treatment continue to produce antibodies after 2 to 3 months. Catch 22!.Version: 1.10

Everyone should download this app...It only takes a couple of minutes to signup and it takes less than a minute of your time daily to help the medical community gain valuable insights into the novel coronavirus. While I have been fortunate enough to not get infected during the pandemic thus far, I have already had family members get extremely ill and I my best friend/soul sister passed away from COVID-19 this past spring. So anything I can do to aid doctors and researchers in being able to understand this virus in greater detail, of course I will do my part. Please also share this app with friends and family members around the world because the more people that contribute, the sooner COVID-19 can be fully understood which is half the battle in being able to get this pandemic under control..Version: 1.10

Great initiative just reporting a bugWhen you add profiles of people in your household: I added one but see it now appear 5 times; and there is an option of adding a profile but not removing one. I hope you aren’t counting that person 5 times now And once again: I had to move since I started tracking. I am now in the wrong part of london in your data set. Maybe include a ‘review your data’ part in some of you questionnaires and if there are changes - let people enter when the change has occurred? That way you’d have the cleanest data And I agree with some other comments: I also had a ‘covid-like’ experience ca. 2 weeks before I started tracking the symptoms on the app. I remember the dates, the symptoms, etc. Maybe one of the questionnaires should contain a branch of questions exploring that. That what you could tag possibly immune respondents better?.Version: 1.9

SymptomsWhen you feel ill, maybe think you have a cold, runny nose etc. You don’t log the symptoms, thinking in a few days you will feel better. After a while you realise it is lasting longer than it should and that it could be Covid. Too mild to say that you feel ill. I have had symptoms now, they come and go, for three months. Also during lockdown, when you were discouraged from going out, and you naturally get lethargic, your bowels don’t get stimulated, and you feel generally grotty, then you don’t feel normal. If you are an older person, you also suspect maybe old age is creeping up. Hard to know how you should be feeling. I do know that wearing a mask has affected my breathing and I really appreciate fresh air. There is no way to backdate your symptoms and explain how you feel. A good app, really appreciate your interest and the reports. The government has been chaotic in the rulings, especially when Wales and Scotland were doing things differently. I don’t think people knew what was allowed, it changed so often. No wonder Boris was confused. Thank you all for the great work..Version: 2.7.1

Xmas 2019 infectionI have just been advised by my surgery that it isn’t possible for me to have had COVID 19 because my timeline doesn’t tie in with the government one. Yet here, I find so many people, like myself, who were infected with a virus at Xmas 2019 and the symptoms are identical (?)to COVID 19. I’m beginning to think this virus was here earlier than they first thought. Mine started with overwhelming exhaustion Xmas eve, followed by two days of s & d and a vicious headache. I was bedridden for 8 days. unable to face food I lived on Complan for 10 days then forced myself to start eating. I had no sense of taste or smell...they still haven’t returned properly. But, the most frightening thing for me, was the shortness of breath which lasted, at its worst for 9 days then gradually eased. The pain from the cough was so bad I thought I had fractured a rib. The cough itself lasted 5 and a half weeks. I’m glad this study is being done, and hope we can all get some answers that make sense to us soon..Version: 1.8

Started Xmas DayI am fairly healthy and fit, I have a competition horse I ride most days, when not on lock down and do a lot of gardening, also dog walking. 64, I have twice yearly treatment for cancer treatment, under control. My friends who run the yard where my horse lives returned from a South Africa holiday just before Xmas. They had been in contact with Chinese people in safari parks. After Xmas one of their staff came back from seeing his parents in North Italy. I felt very tired on Xmas day and was up and down with this for 8 weeks. I had a lot of headaches including at least one awful migraine, never had before. I had a fever, some days I was OK some very tired, a lot of coughing, especially at night. One night I thought I was having an asthma attack. I had antibiotics and chest pain for weeks. I have read that this causes problems with intestines, my IBS seems to have got worse. My husband 79, with asthma had the flu injection, I was not able to as I was too young! He has also had a pneumonia injection. He had a few symptoms, but nothing like me. He did however get the red eye with purple patches under his eyes. This cleared up after treatment, never had it before.Version: 1.7

Great app but a little narrowI fully support this app and am delighted to upload information daily. Hope it will all help in understanding this awful virus better. I think it might be helpful to know if people are quarantined because of a family member having the illness or strongly suspected. Obviously with such poor testing rates even health workers who have been closely nursing patients with proven Covid 19 are unable to be tested when symptomatic (as was the case with a member of our household). However we feel certain her symptoms were most likely due to this but could not answer that we had been in contact with someone testing positive as she wasn’t tested!! I suppose it depends on what information you are hoping to gather and we all know that the number of cases in the U.K. far exceeds those confirmed. Please keep up the wonderful work you are doing. Thank you..Version: 1.6

Great idea but a little flawed.I find the idea of this app fantastic! It will be extremely helpful in tackling this disease and documenting lots of data. My main issue and area for suggestion is for the questions relating to whether you think you have had it. I myself believe my partner and I have had Covid-19 but despite me coming into possible contact with the disease I was not deemed ‘high risk’ by NHS 111 and was therefore not tested. This is where I think the app falls short of being incredibly helpful to scientists and data analysts. Where you ask ‘do you think you have had Covid-19?’ You should then ask what symptoms the person had, how long they lasted for, had they come into potential contact with someone with Covid-19 and how long before symptoms started presenting, and ask for a quick diary of events and a summary as to why they think they had it. The reason for this is you will get a better picture of incubation time, access fully the extent of how many were a 90%+ sure they had it, how many it may have been a cold, and based on age range, location, underlying illness you can find out survival statistics, severity of symptoms and get a rough idea of possible herd immunity going on. Basically your data would be more thorough, extensive and she’s better light on this disease which may be useful to the NHS, scientists and government. With all that said I still encourage people to use this app and keep up to date with how they feel in these uncertain times!.Version: 1.0

Something meaningful that I can do to help!I was watching the news and caught a quick glimpse of this app after a doctor from Mass General Hospital was being interviewed and I quickly went online and downloaded it and started self reporting my symptoms while on a 14 day self quarantine just having returned from A week vacation in London. The Imperial College of London was also working on this tracking app so I really thought it was good to join in! (Seeing as. Probably caught it in London) The app helped me feel more secure about what symptoms are common or some even uncommon associated with the COVID 19. I did report a fair number or them and am now feeling as if I have recovered at home so I thank the researchers for allowing us regular folks to share and self monitor ourselves so that during this time alone I did not necessarily feel completely separate and apart from the rest of the human race and even felt good about having been able to lend a hand and play a bit part in helping those much smarter than me to get a little closer to understanding and ultimately solving this global problem..Version: 1.6

Important but needs modificationsI am very glad this app exists, as I’m in week 6 of Covid-19 symptoms. A couple of things seem to potentially skew the data. 1. For the many of us (especially in NYC) who have Covid-19 but no test, the app doesn’t ask if we received a doctor’s diagnosis or are sort of assuming we have Covid. 2. For healthcare workers, it asks whether we are treating patients and wearing PPE, but there’s no option for “Dude, I have Covid, I couldn’t be at work even if I wanted to be!” And that’s oddly concerning. (Also, 3. Are we still considering “high fever and cough” as classic symptoms? What about loss of smell? I had that before I joined the study, but now there’s no way to mark it in the app.).Version: 1.6

Did I have COVID in mid March?I think I might have had COVID starting 14 March but at the time there was little mention of symptoms other than dry cough and high temperature, which I did have to start with. However my infection turned into what I thought was a humdinger of a head cold with total loss of sense of smell and taste. My sense of smell is only just returning two months later. Because I thought it was a cold I tried to keep going (though I did self-isolate before we were told to) but I found by mid afternoon all my energy was shot. Since adolescent pneumonias I can always cough up sputum, and do so every morning deliberately, but I was doing postural drainage several times a day. That’s back to normal. If it was COVID I think I got off lightly and may have done so because the virus found easy access to my sinuses - I had permanent antrostomies over 50 years ago. An antibody test would be a boon. Hope this is helpful to someone..Version: 1.9

COVID app reviewVery good app. Easy to use. Helps you consider actually what your symptoms are and by filling it in each day you can see for yourself if you’re getting worse or better. I think there needs to be a further app giving people tips on what’s important in taking care of yourself if you are alone. And especially people who get the virus need to see the video in which the doctor from Queen hospital shows the breathing technique when the virus has reached your lungs. This breathing technique seems to be the only way to be able to cough mucus up from your lungs. Before I discovered this video I knew mucus was building up but I couldn’t cough it up and I knew that my lungs were getting less and less efficient which was extremely frightening. I think using the video prevented me needing to call 999 for help. So the more people that can manage their symptoms at home the better the NHS can cope. Everyone needs to have this video in case they reach the point when they need it. Thanks Nicola. Xx.Version: 1.6

Great idea, perhaps a few amends/ additions?I’ve been filling this in since it became apparent that my husband, and then I, had become infected with COVID 19. Although I haven’t been to hospital, our GP has confirmed on two occasions that she is as confident as she can be that we have it. I’ve also been seen by a paramedic (I dialled 111 for advice and they sent an ambulance because I’m in the “very high risk” category. It might be good to have a section for people who haven’t been tested in hospital but who have had some degree of medical opinion.. so there has been some kind of third party involvement. If that makes sense. Also. I’m pretty sure I can trace mine back to my husband’s movements before lockdown (as I was self isolating by mid February as I was concerned) as he went to Spain and to London and so on... I don’t mean that in a blame sense, only that it might be interesting to track the spread of the disease. But, even so, I’m not a medic or an app developer, so I’m so impressed this exists at all. It’s an amazing thing you’ve done/ are doing. Thank you..Version: 1.6

Crowd Sourced Solution to Government IneptitudeI was so relieved to learn of this app. Participation takes about 15 seconds daily. Greatest benefit is that it provides researchers with info that helps target communities where increased cases are likely, thereby increasing likelihood for proactive measures to help those communities save lives. The other significant benefit of this app is that it forces the user to pay attention to slight changes in symptoms. Such supported/guided self-monitoring is invaluable in an era when government has obscured and intentionally delayed essential info about COVID-19 for a political agenda, thereby putting all American lives (Republicans, Democrats, Independents, and the unregistered) at risk. A sincere “Thank You” to Zoe and all associated researchers..Version: 1.6

Medical/Health informationI love this app and commend those doing the research for this. I would gladly contribute more information on a daily basis if it would help now and in the future. I am not able to contribute in some of the vaccine trials or I would do that, not unwilling but did not qualify due to BP. I have shared this app with so many people and have been surprised at reasons they did not want to use it, most did not want to share their information or take a few minutes of their time to do it. I miss days and wish there was a way to go back and fill in missed days..Version: 2.6.0

Great AppI am confident 3 people in my family had the virus which started day before Christmas with one member of my family, then spread to my son and New Year’s Eve my husband and l went down with it. I was very poorly for 3 weeks unable to get out of bed, . was also being sick after 2 weeks. Managed to get to see a doctor by going to the surgery, again very poorly to go he gave me sickness tablets used for Chemotherapy , which started to improve my condition and stop the sickness. No one not even me new what was wrong with me at that time. Doctor just said a virus. But no symptoms of flu. It took 6 weeks before l could feel anything like my old self. My husband was very poorly for 2 days unable to leave his bed but then quickly improved. Ok where did this come from, my sons partner works at a company that supplied bottles and tops come from China. The member of staff went Out to China close to where the virus started. Came back to work few days later just before Christmas he also became ill. Wish we could all be tested..Version: 1.6
