ZOE Health Study for Negative User Reviews

BuggyInitially thought this was a good way to support the tracking effort and hopefully minimize people’s exposure to the virus. Downloaded the app to my iPhone and started to create an account. After putting in my email and creating a password it told me I already had an account. Hmmm. Never used this app or any of Zoe’s other apps. Requested a link to reset my password. Decided to try another email and password. Got the same message again that I already had an account under that email. Requested a reset of my password on that email as well. It’s been 7 hours and I haven’t received any email to reset the password on either email. Went online to the Zoe website and looked at their FAQs. Seems they’re having problems with creating accounts. Unless they update the app to eliminate the bugs, I’ll try elsewhere..Version: 1.6

Not happy! This website used to be great but I have had nothing but problems with it the past year. I have decided to not participate further. When I submit data (each day) it never fails that the next day it is asking me to report the same date data again. This happens every day! This leads me to believe that Zoe has not received any of my data this past year. The site even states that “zero info reported”. Very frustrating. I have reached out and reported the issues with no resolution. I have been an active reporter in the Nurses Health Study for over 20 years and I’m going to see if they have a site that collects Covid data..Version: 4.1.0

Is this relevant to the US?I have been doing this daily since March but may stop soon. The app and associated website are UK-oriented and I haven’t seen or read any sign that the data collected from the US is being analyzed by anybody. It used to return an estimate of current infections for my county but not any more. The only US data on the website is presented so poorly it lacks all credibility. A color coded map of the US purports to estimate current infection rates by state (states are referred to as “areas” and “regions”). But the color index ranges don’t match the results you get when you click on a state. And the whole data map is presented under a headline about current infections in the UK..Version: 1.10

Great wish it was mandatoryThe idea behind this is great. I think participation should be mandatory and for those without a smartphone more than one person could be logged, so an entire family could be entered by one person under different profiles. Or I could also log my parents who live 120 miles away and are more vulnerable because of age and health conditions My son was the one who showed symptoms first on 12 March he was nearly 8 months old at the time and wondered if his fever was teething related. Then came his cough and snot. I didn’t know about the app until much more recently so feel our household has already had it and I’ve been registering the tail end of my symptoms. Would be good if opportunity was given to enter historical data as I had a period of not being able to taste or smell having lathered Vick’s over me and the baby and unable to smell a thing. A few days later it was news that this could be a symptom. If historical data was captured it could show that many cases have occurred rather than there is the opportunity for many more..Version: 1.6

Great idea but could be betterGreat idea for the app to log and track how many people are being affected by the virus. However there should be more scope for qualitative data which could provide some valuable insights. For example someone I live with said they couldn’t taste anything. I didn’t know if we should all (3 of us) self isolate or not because loss of tastebuds isn’t one of the main symptoms. Also I had a headache and felt hot one night - I don’t know if that was a mild symptom or not because I otherwise feel well - no coughs or anything so when I’ve completed the app I’ve said I feel normal today but I’m not exactly sure if you’re capturing the data you need by me saying I feel well. Otherwise the app is great and I think it should be marketed more so that the young, old and everyone in between should complete it as I’m not sure if the people who are choosing to complete it will give you the richness of the data you need to make good quality informed decisions. Well done though.Version: 1.6

Log in issuesAfter an update it’s now wanting me to log in. I can’t recall the password for it or actually creating an account but I must have as when I try to create an account it says I already have one with that email.. There isn’t a password reset option so now I am locked out the app unable to track anything or will have to create a new account & lose the existing data. I agree with other reviewers - this needs more options for people who suspect they may have had it. I am wondering if I do actually have or do have COVID-19, but by basic NHS checks I probably don’t have it. However, from searching around the internet I have several minor symptoms that can be related to it.. that said, symptoms started about 2 weeks ago and have been up & down so even if I did have it, then I’m passed the “7 day” isolation period and in theory ok despite symptoms ongoing :/ Right now I’m so confused as advice online so so inconsistent & I just want reassurance that I’m not a danger to people as I am a key worker..Version: 1.3

A start, but not thorough enough!Of course active data collection is help to discern patterns of fluctuation in varying situations. Where the enquiry falls way short is by not asking deeper into what has happened previously. A “do you think you had Covid or contact with someone” is not cutting it if this is supposed to be scientifically useful! Personally I had an infection I battled with for 2 weeks in January with 5-6 nights of coughing. I was at the GP multiple times and nothing was done. A month after initial symptoms I was having regular palpitations and tachycardia, which eventually subsided, but cardio testing was too slow. I’m still in observation for that. Breathing was a nightmare for 3-4 months. The app makes no effort to enquire about what a person has been doing. I’ve noticed a significant increase in inflammation generally and resorted to infrared treatment to ease pain. Although not having fever, the night sweats have been quite extreme. So many aspects need proper enquiry. It’s great there is an effort, but maybe do it properly and not what will be another british bodged job!?!.Version: 1.10

Great start but more neededI agree with many of the reviewers so far in that the idea is great but I think that the questions are too simple. When daily reporting that you feel as normal as usual or unwell, there should be more options. One day I felt really rotten but my temperature was normal. There wasn’t the option to report the symptoms I had. I gather that the virus can display itself in many different ways so I think that when someone isn’t feeling quite right, there should be many more questions. In my case, I was back to normal the following day but prior to me using the app, there was a period of at least a week where I was exhausted, had a headache which wouldn’t go and a slight cough. I didn’t have a temperature at all. This may well have been something completely unrelated but I will never know. Since I work in a school, and several members of staff were off with COVID-like symptoms, I may have had the virus in a very low grade form. Anyway, thank you for creating this app. I have passed it around to friends and family and hope that it will help inform and ultimately save lives..Version: 1.6

Easy to use but …The app is super easy to use but I think it needs to include additional dataset requests. Given the rate of new cases, adding datasets for testing availability, known incidents of exposure including where that exposure occurred ( work, church, school etc), and what protective measures were being utilized when the exposure occurred (ie mask, social distancing, hand sanitizer, vaccination without any additional measures etc). The only truly accurate way to disseminate false information regarding this virus is through data collection from individual personal experience. Have you lost a friend or family member to Covid/Covid complications, have you had a family member or friend test positive? In the area we live doctors and nurses aren’t reporting information accurately due to personal and political biases. I’ve been told by countless people that their doctors & healthcare professionals have told them not to get vaccinated, that this isn’t that big of a deal, etc and I experienced the same commentary from emergency room staff in two separate facilities in two separate states , both small town hospitals in dominant politically conservative areas, even though their hospitals are at or over capacity with Covid patients who are critically ill. The line between political beliefs and scientific evidence skewed to support the political belief over scientific evidence to the contrary..Version: 2.6.0

SuggestionThere is no way to give feedback about this app except this so I have downgraded my score temporarily to get their attention. A new thing is the questionnaire about exposure and wearing masks. But in this you are only asked if you have been outside in public, not if somebody has been visiting you at home eg in your garden as it it now allowed and where you are more likely not to be wearing masks. The questions about masks are very general so if you catch the virus and have only used a mask in certain situations the researchers have no way of detecting in which situation you have used it and in which you haven’t. Also why don’t they ask you about exactly what medication you use if you are somebody suffering with a chronic disease? Some people use antiviral medication permanently or use anti inflammatory supplements like Monolaurin and perhaps comparing their data would show a pattern that could lead to a cure. Some users mention being taken pictures of when using the app. I have noticed a flash of light from the screen (not from the flash) between the first and the second page during the daily reporting. Is this what they’re talking about and what is it? Otherwise: Easy to use and hopefully beneficial, and the other problems I had seemed to have been fixed. Addition: had a blood clot - nowhere to report that. You would think that was essential information, particularly since I know people with same health conditions and (healthy) lifestyle as me getting it too..Version: 5.0.2
