✓ Fun But greedy businessThis app is based on a society that doesn't have the need for money. The people who make this app are going for every bit of money they can before this happens. The game started off fun, i paid for a few in app purchases, it was all cool. Until I started to have to buy more and more to advance the game. Tipping point for me was the nemesis mini game is like 96 hours long and with 12 hours to spare, I only received 1 deckchip. So I wasn't able to advance any of the simulations. Haven't even accrued enough chips to unlock the last simulation. When i thought it was an error, I was told the game specifically designed to have different levels of experience which is fine. But this was different levels of paying up. Wish i read these reviews before downloading. Once deleted you are not likely to get any of us back..Version: 1.8.0

✓ Could have been great….butThe devs are clearly money hungry. I’ve been playing this now for a little over 4 weeks and progression is getting ridiculously slow. From the off, the dialog and tutorial are great, they engage you and make sure you understand every little detail. But then the pay wall hits…. Unfortunately Dilithium is needed to upgrade most of this game and there is very little opportunity to get it aside from some quests or free boxes (of which you get very little from them). To progress at a decent rate, the developer has designed this game so that you’ll HAVE to purchase dilithium. I refuse and got bored very quickly. Overall, this could have been a great Idle game, but yet again Greed wins. Would rather pay £1.99 for this than constantly fork out for Upgrade materials. ✓ Money grabbingGood storylines, albeit rather repetitive. The ‘main’ game is okay, although now I’ve upgraded characters and ship rooms, it is too easy and just time consuming. There used to be a (smaller) competition once a week on weekends. That’s now three times a week. You can’t talk or engage with competitors. And whereas $2.99 used to be enough to really enjoy these and be competitive, it’s become so that you really have to spend $15 or $30 to have a chance at a top four spot. And when that’s three times a week, it’s a bit much. Added to that if you sleep during a competition your rank likely goes down about four places. I really wanted to like this game. But logging in every 20 minutes or every two hours to watch ads and press buttons for a few minutes, isn’t fun. The storylines are nice. But I’m not sure they’re enough to play for..Version: 1.7.0

✓ Okay. Kind of confusingIt’s not always clear which resource you should upgrade. Some of the upgrade options don’t tell you what thru are doing. The app needs a legend for the various icons to tell you what they do. For example, Stevens shows 1.61x -> 1.77x. But what is it upgrading?! That icon is used nowhere else in the game that I can find. It’s not the computer chip icon. Also, there’s a number of people you can upgrade but their area is not in the game and the icons don’t match any area..Version: 1.8.0

✓ Cutscenes are phenomenal, the gameplay...ehhhh...I just started playing this game now that it's been finally released in the USA, and I am of mixed feelings: the cutscenes and main storyline are straight out of the show — absolutely phenomenal, don't change a thing — but the gameplay is a little disappointing, like that it's supposed to be there as time waster filler in between the quick segues into the animated storyline. I wish this game was more engaging (no pun intended). Something akin to the ship management Sim like FLT or an adventure game like Thimbleweed Park or The Secret of Monkey Island, not...this. Not another reskinned idle game that has you tap at intervals and meet imaginary metrics to show you the next 15 second cutscene. ✓ Puts the idle in idle gamesI’m a fan of the show so I play the game. I spent a long time playing Archer before this, from the same company. Where Archer had decent card pull rates, this game seems to have a huge abundance of things I don’t want and a finely tuned algorithm to shortchange you on random pulls for things you would like. Get used to always feeling three or four cards short of two or three characters needed for upgrades in the main game episodes. I also did pretty well in the 4 day events in Archer, finishing in first several times over the two years I played that game. I haven’t come close to finishing one of the shorter duration events in Lower Decks. Seems very “balanced” to encourage you to buy an offer every event..Version: 1.8.1
✓ One crash too manyThe game itself is fun and light with a constant stream of special events. After playing for a couple of weeks however it can be repetitive. There are a lot of ads and this is where the second problem starts. No other game I play on my iPad is always certain to crash in the way lower deck crashes. I also get a message that I don’t have enough storage space to run the game without crashing. ✓ Typical Schlocky Eastside FareFrom the game developers who brought you their own diluted hacky takes on such beloved franchises as The Office, Trailer Park Boys, and It’s Always Sunny comes their latest attempt to cash in on this soupy modernist miasma we call pop culture. ST:LD is the *exact* same formula as Eastside’s other games, just with a new coat of paint. Ugly game design, shameless nostalgia bait, franchise key-jingling, lockouts a-plenty, and ham-fisted attempts to cover up the steep and intrusive pay-to-play mechanics. It is imperative to realize, and I will reiterate, that this game is more or less the same as every other major Eastside game, and it _still isn’t fun_. It amazes me that a game studio in this day and age can survive by literally pumping out the same game, dev cycle after dev cycle. Maybe it says something about their target audience, or maybe about their business ethics. ✓ A Ferengi made this gameFun and cute story with our favourite Lower Decks characters. Downside is that you are hard-limited early by Dilithium constraint. Ads every 30mins only provide 30, but required upgrades cost 400 each, and milestones give… 10? So you have to complete missions to get cards, dilithium, and Latinum pulls, but the missions are usually “upgrade X” which needs Dilithium. You are also stuck with luck of the draw for which character cards you get for upgrades. This means you can easily get hardstuck if you don't get the last 2 cards you need for an upgrade. This means waiting hours and days to grind out the credits to the next milestone for a *chance* of the character cards you need. Sometimes with missions available and no trades, you are stuck for days- all of which pushes you towards buying. The interface in game is nice and “Trek-like”, with good sounds and LCARS inspirations. However, that is destroyed when there’s 3 paid offers taking up 1/3 of the game’s screen real estate. Finally, it’s built into the game that you must watch ads to progress at anything approaching a reasonable pace. I understand idle games, but this is one of the most atrocious in terms of volume. Overall, fun idea, good IP use, but the Ferengi tendencies of mobile game companies has ruined this one..Version: 1.5.3

✓ Beta software with a little Lower Decks humorSince the developers turned off ads, this idler has been much more enjoyable. And the developers are slowly but consistently improving the game’s interface and making other tweaks to hone in on their money-making product. F2P has its limits—you can advance to part way through events and receive some rewards—but completionists will have to shell out maybe a hundred dollars a week to achieve to reward status. ✓ Money HungryI’ve been really enjoying this game despite how pushy it is to spend money and/or watch ads. It’s fairly simple gameplay with cute cut scenes from one of my favourite shows. My biggest gripe is that when you do give in and spend money it’s an extremely poor value. I’ve spent probably $20 so far and I cannot say it was worth it. Yes paying unlocks upgrades and characters but then that benefit only really lasts until the end of the episode and suddenly you’re in the same position as if you hadn’t paid anything and it wants you to pay all over again. ✓ Cute idle clicker, but crashes a LOT.Pretty standard idle clicker gameplay, but the look and writing actually really nail Lower Decks, which is a pleasant surprise. Unfortunately the game is pretty unstable. You frequently need to try several times to get through story portions because the app tends to crash in the middle. After Episode 3, nearly every story scene crashes the app at least once, and in some cases I have had to restart the app 5-6 times to get through an episode ending. ✓ Will not stop crashingIt’s remarkable that something as simple as an idle game is apparently so resource hungry that it causes crashes to desktop nearly constantly. ✓ Love the game, but ads can freeze lock up phoneLove the game and have been plying for a few weeks. As some other people have said, the most recent updates have really made the game drop in performance and user experience. When I first download the game a few weeks ago I had zero issues. I have an iPhone XR, and pretty regularly when I play an ad to get rewards, it’s hit or miss if the ad will freeze and not allow me to close to receive the reward, or if it will allow me to exit the ad when it’s over to receive the reward. I do enjoy the game but I am disappointed with some of the ad networks that are being used and the amount of RAM that is required for what is basically a poorly scripted streaming video. This is the only app on my phone that slows the entire device down to the point where it can take several minutes to close the game when the app stops responding. ✓ Too much reliant on moneyI really enjoyed the game but Adverts are everywhere and the state of survival stupid guys in dresses for 45 seconds is enough to make me delete the game. Some of the adverts are extremely inappropriate and show ant jumping off a woman’s breast or jiggling buttocks when shooting a gun. Game itself is actually quite good and seriously addictive. I did see myself spending £1.79 to get up the leaderboard but I realised I needed to be on it 24/7 to get on the leaderboard anywhere high which is seriously bad for my health. ✓ Fun but frustratingly resource hungryI’ve been playing this game for about a week now, and certainly have been having fun with it, but the past few days have resulted in so many crashes that it couldn’t even load the game properly before crashing to main. Although the game size is less than half a gig, to run the game effectively requires at least 3gb ram, so you have to close down all other apps just to run the game. I’m playing with an iPhone XR as well, not a Nokia 5510. Viewing in-game ads for boosts was such a massive gamble and took far longer than it needed to. Alas, my patience wore too thin and I uninstalled the game. Would I recommend this over other games like Idle Mafia? Sadly not, and I say that with a heavy heart being a lifelong Trekkie. It took WAY TOO long to be able to automate, which wouldn’t be so bad if there was more to “do” other than waiting for circles to load, watching ads and clicking fast. Each station should have mini games or something. There should be a way to interact with the characters. Or just something else to do. This is dreadfully underwhelming. ✓ Is this the beta version?I love the show but when I first checked out this game it felt like a copy of the office idle game. The background Elmer’s don’t move, shows a clear lack of effort. When upgrading the Klingon training area it switches from Klingons to POC women with Afros that aren’t Klingon, idk if this is a reference I’m missing or another error of the game devs. The ads feel way too long for little reward. The saving grace is the writing for the story, I got a good chuckle out of it a few times. Would love to see this be more polished with either interactive background elements or at least decent crew that don’t look the same in every training module. ✓ Nothing to do..No voice work at all, limited sound fx, and entire gameplay is basically just watching timers fill up. Can't zoom in, Klingons standing on officers heads because they're placed under foot as under the Klingon sprites. Can only scroll up and down leaving set pieces half off screen. Only real gameplay comes in the form of tap fast mini games at the end of each episode, but rigged to slow down massively at the third tier. Game changes the rules starting at episode 5 to get you to buy upgrades with real cash. Also resets assets every episode and nukes all progress on any given section with each. Not allot of thought went into this game, and even less is required to play it. Especially obvious when even boimler calls *Captain* Freeman just Freeman. Not a very boimler thing to do. I don't expect much from a freemium game, but there needs to actually be a game to play with things to do besides spend money. ✓ Kinda fun, but incomplete and buggyThis is a fairly fun idle game that’s a slight variation on this type of game (I call them zig-zag games, not sure if the genre has a name). But after a while progression gets very, very slow, which makes it boring. It seems to be incomplete, too, because if you go into the settings, about half the options are disabled. It doesn’t even connect to Game Center, which is a very basic thing for games to do. There are some interface bugs to where some elements will be behind others and you have to scroll to just the right place to interact with them. Plus, there are arrows that will scroll you to something you need to collect, or whatever, but they get stuck on the screen and will take you to a building that is not ready to collect. That gets really annoying because they flash, in an attempt to get your attention, and you basically can’t get rid of them. Don’t even bother with events. Only the top 20 players get a decent reward and you won’t get anywhere near that unless you spend lots and lots of money. Even if you start an event the moment it becomes available and have the multiplier from watching ads going the whole time, and do nothing else in life but play this game, you’ll still not be anywhere near the top 20. They need to break it down by percentages, rather than just the top 20 players. As more people play this game, casual players will have absolutely no hope of ever getting anything from events..Version: 1.6.0

You start an episode, get merit points and then you finish that episode. You get merit points by… automating your areas so it does it for you. ✓ Here we go again…I know I’ve written a review for this game, but it wasn’t 100% glowing so it seems to have disappeared even though they responded to it and said they’d work on making it not so pay to play heavy. The game itself is pretty, and the storylines they’ve come up with feel like they come out of the show. That’s not the issue. The issue is that I have never seen a game so crafted toward sucking as much money out of people as possible (not even gambling games, at least with those there’s a CHANCE of getting something back). You really can’t progress in the game or the “events” without spending sometimes upwards of $100 (that’s per a 3 day event and won’t carry over to permanent upgrades). It’s almost like the game was designed specifically to trick little kids into spending as much of their parents money as humanly possible before they notice. You guys need to do better. Go look at Adventure Capitalist, the granddaddy of these idle clickers, to see how progression can be done without feeling like you have to spend a week’s pay to actually move ahead. I have experienced constant crashes on the game and I will receive no help in fixing the issue because I can’t afford a brand new, up to date iPad. The 3 RAM memory requirement has squeezed me out of a game that I hoped to play and have been told by support that because I use an older model of device that I will receive zero assistance in fixing the game so that I can actually play their product. ✓ Great game, hideous microtransactionsThe mechanics of this game are really good - mixing up the order of the holodecks each episode seems like a novel take on the idle mechanic; plus the Lower Decks theme is great. But, and it’s a massive but, entire characters are locked behind paywalls especially in events. Not just difficult to get but they don’t occur randomly, in one the final character was only available behind an £18 microtransaction. ✓ Hit the paywall very quickly!After just a short while of playing, I hit the dreaded “paywall” requiring me to spend money to progress, else wait weeks to be able to upgrade my characters and progress the story. ✓ Fun, but too buggy to pay for itIt’s a fun game, with a lot of the humor that makes lower decks work, but it is very buggy. The game only loads maybe 10% of the time - it shows the intro screen, and a slowly rising percentage indicator, but 9 times out of 10 after getting above 20% the game crashes to a black screen and exits the app. On the rare occasion when it does successfully start, it tends to either crash after a few minutes or mostly run successfully (although watching an ad to get resources is 50/50 change of it granting the resources or the game crashing again. TL;DR version - it’s fun, but given how often it crashes/fails to start it’s not worth investing real money into the app.Version: 1.6.1

✓ Fun in concept but shameless cash grab.Not enough content to keep you going. It’s over a month since last new episodes and all the events are recycled. It’s the same two during the week and I think at most there are 8 weekend events which have started recycling since the Krampus one in mid-December. The weekend events are nigh impossible to finish without putting at least $10 into it. Worse - the weekend events are 16 tasks but other than the Wrath of Khan one there are no cutscenes after task 10. No Audio either for the stories either …. this game could have been so much more but it’s just a blatant cash grab. I’m sitting on almost 50k dilithium and nothing to do other than doing as much as I can in the events without sinking a dime. Getting new characters is useless without something to do with them. I’m on say three of playing it and the fun is already gone. You lose all of the progress you make at the end of every episode so you are starting from scratch over and over. The mini tap game is annoying as when you get past the second, level, you have no chance to get the third goal in the time due to the settings the developers put on it. I like that you can set a simulation to collect even when you’re or playing. To get there in the seventh episode, I played for an hour and still was not able to turn on the automation. Seeing how much I would have to play to afford the automation, I stopped playing and wrote this. Such potential. Wasted. This style of game is so incongruous with the show. ✓ Money hungry app with no lasting charmThe only way to truly get ahead in this game is to subject yourself to the worst ads for the worst mobile games the internet has to offer. You’re basically playing cookie clicker with a Lower Decks skin. You spend your time building up your various stations only to have them end so you can start anew. Every achievement seems less like progression and more like repetition. They do a good job capturing the characters in the brief moments of dialogue, but even those you’ll begin to skip. If you grow tired of watching ads, there’s always the prospect of paying money so you can hurry up and wait some more. Weird for a game about the Star Trek Federation to be so much about money. The game already had crashed more then 16 times during the first 4 episodes. Trying to play an add for double merits was impossible. ✓ Predatory even by idle clicker standardsI wanted to badly for this to be a good game, but unfortunately, there’s barely any actual gameplay upon which to form an opinion. The writing and art are fantastic, and they’re responsible for the two stars. The rest of the game… Events are one of the most transparent cash grabs I’ve seen in a genre of game already replete with cash grabs, and the inability to pay for any sort ad-free experience is genuinely mind boggling. Though the prices of individual microtransactions seem in line with many other games, the structure of episodes and events makes it significantly less tempting to purchase any of them; goals are often set so ridiculously high that it’s not even clear how many times you’d have to make a purchase to be able to achieve the objectives.
