Bug ID: Insect Identifier AI for Negative User Reviews

Not even close to accurateSaid it identified the insect I found but required subscription to reveal the info. I began a trial but instead was charged immediately. Not happy with the bait and switch but proceeded with see what it identified… said it was a cricket. Not even close to a cricket. Inaccurate and deceptive business practice, avoid!.Version: 1.37

TOTAL SCAM—DON’T BUYForeign scam. Got tricked into clicking for a free trial only to be told that I had just subscribed. No obvious way to take that back. Identify an insect with a picture? Right. I sent a picture and was told that it’s….an insect! Stop the presses! Now I have to figure out how to lodge a complaint to get my money back..Version: 1.21

It’s not free. Just another scam to get your hard earned money.Total crap. Can’t identify unless you subscribe. Sure you can eventually get it to give you a free trial but it’s just a scam to get you to forget u subscribed after looking up one bug and end up paying. Dont waste your time. Spend couple extra minutes searching online just using a description of bug and searching through online pictures. Then get your results for free. I get purpose of apps is to make money. But make it with ads for those who don’t want anything but just to know what they have found. Charge money to those who want to get the premium stuff that really isn’t worth it. It shouldn’t cost a single cent for simply identifying a bug. If you want money for that, then make people watch a really short ad and let the ones who don’t care about money sign up for premium option to get it ad free. That’s my suggestion. I won’t ever sign up for subscription just so you hope I forget about it and you take my money..Version: 1.22

Charged me TwiceI was charged twice for a subscription and I’ve tried reaching out to the company and no one will get back to me. Avoid this app if you don’t want your money stolen from you.Version: 1.30

Total deceptionApp is useless without purchasing a subscription, can’t even try it once.Version: 1.36

Not accurate for paying for itI’ve taken 3 pictures of the same bug and completely random bugs all different colors and shapes were suggested. I then took a picture of a caterpillar just to test it on something basic and it said it was a butterfly and didn’t even have a picture of caterpillars unless you scroll down to the bottom and it even had a picture of one’s mouth making it look grotesque like it’s some kind of threat. Idk I’d keep looking….Version: 1.37

Terrible appLooks like a free trial but you have to subscribe to see any results. It suggests a match for almost any insect you throw at it. When you subscribe to see the results they are mostly wrong, often mikes off, such as a picture of a common blue butterfly being detected as a beetle etc. Fortunately you can unsubscribe as soon as you realise it doesn’t work..Version: 1.37

Not worth itI am a huge insect enthusiast, and when i saw a jumping spider i didn’t recognize, i just had to know what it was. I seriously don’t get why you would present the app as free, and then have us pay a $30 subscription just to see what kind of bug you’re looking at. It’s stupid and pointless..Version: 1.37

ScamMake it impossible for you to get cancel your subscription. The product is rubbish.Version: 1.37

Inn app purchases are a scamI paid for 5 recognitions and the app charged me and didn’t give them back..Version: 1.17

Deliberate confusing cancellation procedureSucked me in to a year’s subscription when I thought I had cancelled.Version: 1.37

Doesn’t work. You’re better off Googling itThis app doesn’t work at all. I tried identifying multiple different insects and it couldn’t even give me a guess on any of them. I’m better off identifying insects from my own knowledge than with this app. Or typing a description into google and scrolling through photos until I see a matching one. And yes, all the photos were clear, with good lighting, in focus on the insect, only one specimen in the photo, etc..Version: 1.37

Not able to try before asking for $$$I get it you need to make money for your efforts but difficult to work through the screens to pay for subscription. Also I am going to identify one or two bugs a year. Is there a skimmed down version for people trying to identify an invasive insect..Version: 1.37

Free app but you can’t use it w/o payingI downloaded this “free” app to identify some pests, but as soon as I tried it makes you pay for a subscription to use it. There is an option to do a free trial, but that’s just obnoxious because you have to remember to go in and cancel it before you get charged. I hate this kind of disingenuous marketing, and pay systems. I am deleting the app..Version: 1.43

MehIt did not work with this bug inside my necklace when it said that the species was found I clicked the button to tell me it but it kept saying “ this species was not identified please do it manually to help us out” I don’t get what I’m doing wrong but for right now it was unhelpful.Version: 1.43

PoorWanted to quickly identify a larva. At first it gave no results, then told me it was “insect”. To test it I scanned some aphids. Under the aphids information it said “aphids is not harmful”. Pretty useless..Version: 1.37

Doesn’t workWas looking forward to using this app but it crashes as soon as I open it, fix ur app.Version: 1.6

It’s uselessIt’s a scam product. Literally useless until you pay for a subscription. (So the deliver could just sell it, but doesn’t, because he’s trying to trick you into downloading, installing, and sharing j formation with him.) Don’t download or support thes scams!.Version: 1.37

No.Must be friends writing reviews because this does not work. I tired about 10 pictures of what I know wasn’t a moth and that’s what is kept classifying it as. So I went a found a clear great picture from Google of a German roach which is one of the earliest bugs to recognize and it misidentified it also tried again with another great Google pic of something else and again it was wrong. Absolutely do not depend on this app..Version: 1.18

Not a free app for quick identificationJust wanted to check if a spider was harmless or not. Made me go through the whole set up. Take a picture m, the app scans and then asked me for a monthly subscription. Sham.Version: 1.30

Not enough valueThe app was wrong on two verified identifications that I did on my own. Also, there isn’t any additional info to learn about each insect. So basically, you’re paying 30 bucks a year for getting a general place to start your identification but you can’t trust the result completely. NOT WORTH THE MONEY YET. MAKE IT BETTER!!!.Version: 1.27

Pay onlyYou download it and then there is no way to use it without paying. stupid..Version: 1.37

5 times I took a picture of the same spider and got 5 different identifications0 review 😡 even identified a spider twice as a dog tick . One the very first picture . I am so upset . I got scammed . I canceled subscription within a few hours and I’m forced to pay and keep the active the subscription. Why would I want this app when it can’t identify correctly. Took 5 pictures 5 times of same spider and never got the same answer . I want my money back !!!!.Version: 1.43

You basically have to pay or scramble to cancelI down loaded the app after checking to see if there was a free trial… Turns out it identifies insects from photos but then sells you a subscription if you want to see the associated info. Am deleting and checking to make sure I’m not billed for the very short “free trial” I didn’t want to be involved with..Version: 1.37

USELESSI have just moved and it is currently 3:10 in the morning and there are bugs that I don’t know what in my room and I just wanted to know what they were!! I don’t want to pay 100 dollars for one bug!! Worst app.Version: 1.37

Beware of “Trial Membership”Signed up for the Free 3 day trial membership and my credit card was billed at exactly the 48 hour point. I wasn’t given the opportunity to cancel if I had decided to do so. This is trickery, be aware. I’ve never run into this problem with any other trial membership before, this speaks volumes about their tactics. Unfortunately, there was no way to cancel once they charged my credit card. Beware, this probably isn’t the first time this has happened to trial users..Version: 1.23

Zero Stars!Same big picture resulted in multiple different results. Tried to cancel trial subscription before the 3 day trail was up and the app keeps your keyboard over the next button so you can’t complete the cancellation. I’ve emailed support twice telling them to cancel and no response. Don’t sign up for trial!.Version: 1.43

DisappointedVery slow Once photo selected, touch done & nothing happens No obvious mention of subscription on the App Store page, but once is finally working, it tells you it has identified the insect, but will not tell you what it is until you subscribe Have deleted app.Version: 1.37

DeceitfulNo where does it say that you need to pay in order to identify the insect with the free trial. It is also impossible to delete the subscription through iTunes..Version: 1.37

This is A SCAM I WANT MY MONEY BACK!I started the free trial , immediately canceled when I needed to identify a single bug & now it is continually charging me $30 every few weeks saying my account is active until 2024. There’s no way to stop it , I can’t even use my iPhone account any more because y’all won’t stop trying to charge me for your stupid scam !.Version: 1.36

Absolute garbage scam app. Don’t download. Please do not download this trash app. The first thing they have you do when you install the app is take a survey, then they access your photos, let you scan a bug, pretend to have a result, but refuse to show you it unless you subscribe. It’s a scam. Who would ever pay a monthly fee to scan bugs. It’s bizarre..Version: 1.37

LameI do not care how many bugs this app can tell me about when it wants money just to tell me the name! Lame! Try allowing people to identify a handful of bugs with nothing more then that. They can choose to learn more and then pay for it fully..Version: 1.37

100% paid appDon’t be fooled by this “free” app. The first identification you will try to do will popup a screen with “Subscribe for 35$”, then after declining it, another one appear “-50%”. After decline the second offer, nothing happens. Conclusion, while there’s so many free apps for unlimited insect identification (thanks to open-source dataset used for recognition), some try to charge you a subscription for data which are totally free plus author not having single contribution except for the app UI..Version: 1.37

Whats the point? Why present this app as free but when download it you have to pay to use it? i guess what im trying to say is, what happened to if you have to pay money for an app you pay for it when you download it and you see how much it is right there to USE the app instead of having the let down and time wasted to download it and then it slaps you with a payment “suggestion” before you can use the app. if the app is not free upon download. PUT THE PRICE DOWN ON THE APP. instead of hiding the fact you have to pay for something you thought was free to use..Version: 1.25

Crashes on openApp immediately crashes when trying to open. I’ve had a quick view of the identify screen and that’s it..Version: 1.4

Never got resultsI tried multiple times and the “scan process” would stop at 98% and I did not have the prince to wait longer than 3min for a result. Honestly, goggle reverse photo search was the best! Use the Google app and take a picture of the insect and it will even take you to articles and threads. Deleted app within an hour of downloading..Version: 1.27

Doesn’t even load…I submitted some photos to identify. They were up close, pretty good photos..it took about a minute to go from 1% to 98%…..then continued loading at 98% for 20 minutes before my phone would lock its screen and once I unlock, it clears my photo…definitely deleted and won’t reinstall..Version: 1.30

Do not download for quick ID - it aint freeAnd it’s expensive. Just use Google and free services if you want to ID a bug just in the moment.Version: 1.37

Misleading, must subscribe to see resultThis app appears to be free until JUST before you get to the point that it’ll tell you what the bug is. After you’ve uploaded the photo, it’s like “we know what bug this is! But to see it, you need to pay for a subscription.” Wish I’d known that before wasting my time downloading the app!.Version: 1.17

ScamI tried to upload a picture. Well, it wanted me to sign up for a subscription. I didn’t want to pay until I knew it was worth it so I chose the free trial option. Instead of signing me up for the free trial, it went ahead and charged me $7.99. It didn’t even identify the insect correctly. Don’t use this scam..Version: 1.36

Paid to subscribe and my photo was identified as a spiderI don’t mind paying for an app but the idea here was to find out what the spider species is. Instead my photo was identified as an insect from the order “Spider”. Nothing else. I’ve cancelled and am requesting a refund from Apple when the initial subscription finishes processing.Version: 1.37

Couldn’t be more wrongI showed a picture of a worm, looking to identify the type, and they said it was a “red ant”. There is a feature in the app that says you can submit to their “experts” if they misdiagnose something. I did that two weeks ago and I’ve heard nothing back..Version: 1.16

UselessIdentifies only down to possible class (Insect). I did that by counting it’s legs, and it didn’t cost me to do so..Version: 1.37

No free feature.Don’t get fooled by the « free ». Not a single identification is free..Version: 1.37

You cant even see if it works before payingWhen you scan something for the first time it tells you it found a match but if you want to see what it is they make you pay for it. But how do I know it works? They're just trying to take your money.Version: 1.23

Trick charge and didn’t honor refundThere is a one week free trial, which I attempted to sign up, but I changed from annual to monthly and purchased a monthly subscription at the last moment, not realizing the free trial disappeared. I requested a refund and it was denied, and then I appealed and it was denied. I feel like this was a trick payment because the free trial literally disappeared as I was clicking to authorize payment. Btw the app didn’t even work for me, unable to identify a beetle easily identified by a different app. If they are not going to support a refund on an accidental purchase, there are better apps you can go to..Version: 1.37

DisappointedThis app quickly identifies insects but the photos I take, which are used to ID the bugs, don’t seem to beforwardable by email or message. What gets sent appears to be an invitation to download the app, when all I wanted to do was send the photo to my pest control guy. If that were not the case it would be a 5-star review. Without it it’s just a 3..Version: 1.29

App kept crashing and making me sign up for new subscriptionsTried signing up 3 times but app kept crashing. Three subscriptions hit my Apple acct. Never was able to use the app. I tried to cancel all three subscriptions. I’ll be reporting back if they charge me!.Version: 1.39

$30 to find out what insect it isI got this app because where I live there are lots of bugs that I am not sure of what they are. I scanned a bug and was waiting for the results when it asked me to pay $30 yearly for it. I was barely ever going to use the app. I would only use it on bugs that look dangerous. It wouldn’t let me see what the ONE bug I scanned was. I would think that the results are correct and it informs you about the insects you scan, but I am not paying $30 dollars for a thing I will use once every other month. Would be great app if you could still get results without paying an absurd amount of money. Maybe make someone pay to be informed about the bug, but just to have the name of it should be free..Version: 1.37

Inaccurate IDs, little infoGoogle worked better for me in getting an accurate ID from a description than this app did with a photo. The insect info provided when there is an accurate ID is minimal. Feel this is false advertising as app does not work as described..Version: 1.37

HorribleI have been trying to request my money back for a week - since I paid the subscription I have been able to open the app twice and now it just crashes. Absolute garbage and a scam. Cannot get in contact with developers.Version: 1.14

Just charge for the appIf you’re just going to charge me $30 to use this product at all then just charge $30 for the app don’t let me download it for free and then not let me scan one single bug to try to figure out what it is. this is very misleading and I do not like it. I’m uninstalling.Version: 1.36

2 Fails during 5 minutes of free trial.I deleted the app a few minutes after downloading. I attempted to identify a spider first and then a termite. With the spider, the app gave me several possibilities that were obviously wrong. However, with the termite the app gave me several species of wasps and bees and nothing even close to an ant or termite. Sorry, not worth the space it consumed on my phone..Version: 1.37

Scam or scam likeAs soon as you koen the app and it asks the usual permissions to track and such, it immediately asks you to rate the app before you have even used it. Which makes me suspicious of any of its ratings. Then before you get any info at all it asks you to pay for premium, I didnt see any free option other than a 3day trial. After all that it gave the exact same one sentence response that another app gave and that app was completely free without any of this nonsense. On top of all that it did NOT not have any additional information on the type of insect and only led to a list any similar insects basically no information despite the apps description of have complete information. You would have better results googling the bug yourself. (the other app that was free and didnt give me this nonsense is called “Seek” I think, and I am not affiliated with them in any way, just annoyed that this app gave the same word for word response as a less scamy app).Version: 1.37

Money before you tryWhy would I pay $40 before even trying to identify 1 bug. Why would I even pay $4 for the month. There are many bug identifiers out there. Even being able to try 1 or 2 identifications to see how well and detailed your info is would be nice. Oh you can upload your photo for free, it says it has identified it but you have to pay just under $4 to see info. Might be a good idea to allow a free one time trial at least..Version: 1.36

FailedI couldn’t take a “clear enough “ picture of a bug no matter how many times I tried, it wouldn’t identify a bug. I took about a dozen pictures of a bug that appeared perfectly clear to me, but the app not only didn’t identify the insect, but it also didn’t store the photos. I’m deleting this app and installing “Picture insect” in its place. That series of apps “Picture…” works great. I use them for plants, mushrooms, and birds. Now insects..Version: 1.27

CrapBetter off with google glass.Version: 1.37
