I love playing the New York Times version everyday called Spelling Bee and I wanted to play more than once a day, so I found this app. The only thing I really don’t like about this app is that nearly every round includes way too many questionable “words” as solutions. Like when I play I’m essentially trying to find enough words to get to NYTs equivalent of ‘genius’ but it’s impossible to do that on this app cause I feel like they have too many words that either aren’t words, or are super abstract that not even legit geniuses would know them, potentially aren’t even in standard dictionary kinds of words. ✓ Rejects words that appear in answer listMy husband and I play this game together and we’ve been consistently thwarted when trying to enter words that the game tells us are not words, that later appear in the answer list. A couple days ago it was “dollar”. We both tried several times to enter the word and it wouldn’t accept it. It then appeared in the list of words when we revealed the answers. Today it happened again with “fulfil”. I tried several times to enter the word only to be denied that it was a word. It then appeared in the answer list. It’s also frustrating that words like “fluidity” are accepted, when “fluidly” is nowhere in the list. I’d argue that the former is far less commonly used than the latter. ✓ Inconsistent and slowIt’s inconsistent in what words are allowed and what are rejected, so a plural might be allowed but not the singular and vice versa. It uses very unusual words that I’ve never heard of, but when I look for the dictionary definition, it’s not there - so are they real words? If it rejects a word, there’s a distinct delay before resetting so if you enter the next word too quickly it doesn’t register the first letter, which is extremely frustrating. It may be my screen sensitivity but I also find it doesn’t register letters unless I press quite hard. I think I’m getting to the useful end of the games I’ve already played. C) some spellings are not American English but British English. D) Many common American words are missing. It’s definitely not a NYT Spelling Bee competitor. I am shocked at how many English words show up as non-words. Words like Revelry and Bereave are part of the English language, yet these words are rejected as non-words. ✓ Unfortunately the game has lots of bugsAfter playing with this game for some considerable time I must say I am getting ever frustrated by the fact that when you enter words they are not accepted and yet when you click new game and select reveal the word you typed in is up there in the revealed words.
