Final Cut Pro for iPad for Negative User Reviews

Can’t subscribeI’m fine with subscriptions, but I’ve downloaded this app multiple times and, unlike other subscription apps, including Logic Pro, I can’t even subscribe to this one. It just never works..Version: 1.0

Not proThere is nothing that indicates this app is Pro. Just an expensive IMovie version Limited in so many ways..Version: 1.0

DisappointingWhen we think of Apple software we think of software that’s held in a high regard. So, it’s disappointing to see such a huge miss at 1.0. Needs a lot of work, and is missing far too many true pro features. Cumbersome and clunky UI that puts way too much emphasis on touch instead of embracing the reality that the iPad Pro is a multi input device where each input should be treated equally. Instead of packing in needed pro features at 1.0 you guys have very gimmicky features in the software that 95% of people won’t use. Like the in app camera, and the pencil writing feature. How did this useless stuff make it in, and in app/timeline audio recording and voice overs didn’t!? I wasn’t one of the people who really cared if Final Cut came to iPad, but I always said it would still be awesome if it does. However, I think its very important to understand that modern day developers have taken both the platform and the iPad Pro to places that are still years ahead. The iPadOS and iPad Pro user community expects far more, because we have been spoiled by brilliant modern day development that has leapfrogged most software. If Final Cut Pro is the industry standard for the Mac, Luma Fusion is the industry standard for iPad Pro. These guys got it right, and you guys are very far behind them. You have some serious competition here, so if you guys want Final Cut to work here you have to step up big time. For the people who truly wanted this software for iPad Pro they want to see 1 for 1 features. Everything the Mac version has here on iPad. If you guys can’t deliver that and pull the adobe thing, this will be a huge failure. There is no way you will convince people to pay for a subscription in it’s current state. I mean even iMovie has in app audio recording! I do hope you guys get it there because I want to see Final Cut succeed here. Also, plugins will be needed unless you guys figure out a more modern solution to them. I find plugins to be a pretty legacy feature, but they are something Final Cut users rely on..Version: 1.0.1

It’s aiteIt feels fun, enjoyable, but long way to go, feedback as an ipad only editor; - Dragging clips onto timeline is horrific, you have to REALLY try, rather than seamlessly adding clips fast. The input for touching a clip + sliding onto timeline should be registered quicker. - Play button hard to reach, another way to play, maybe by pressing screen or pressing viewer. -Utilise double tap and triple tap (eg double tap for undo, or 2 finger tap for undo, 3 finger tab tap for redo or ultra zoom on timeline etc) -Slide numeric values in inspector - big one, ability to slide left/ right on number values on inspector to increase/ decrease the number, like on DVR 18 ipad. -Luma Key Mask - only green screen? Most good overlays require luma keys these days. -When switching from Transition to Titles back to Transition, the anchor point should be wherever user last was instead of from top -A blade tool that cuts everything at playhead -The ability to save keyframe animations as effects, an option to manually create keyframe animations and save as preset -When edge mode is selected multiple clips can be selected and extended. Eg I have 5 clips, all different lengths, allow selecting the end edge of all 5 and then extending all to 10 seconds etc/ -A way to go to one frame left/ right, seemingly insignificant, but the biggest issue with this app currently personally, the end frame of a clip is the most important for creating keyframe animations, the jog wheel is awesome but there needs to be a better way to quickly access the end frame of a clip, check Lumafusion’s ‘seek to selected clip’ where pressing a clip moves playhead to that clips nearest edge, almost replacing arrow keys if using keyboard, this is the best innovation/ utility in mobile editing, massively speeds up work in a long edit. -Ken burns effect takes 7 clicks to access.. -Ken Burns seems to only work horizontal/ vertical based on project dimensions, why not allow me to add Ken burns to a vertical jpg in a horizontal timeline. -Copy/ Paste between projects, eg I made a really cool keyframe animation, would be great to now copy this and put it onto a new project by copy pasting. -Lastly, keyframe ease in/out curves and I’ll donate a max studio to charity..Version: 1.0

A complete different versionIt’s a complete different version from Mac’s version And it doesn’t recognize FCP Mac’s projects It has its own project types ! It reads from “fcp for iPad “ projects or “iMovie” projects.Version: 1.0

Disappointed in capabilityI have recently purchased a Drone and I enjoy editing videos after fun camping trips. iMovie is so limited I have found myself doing all my video edits in DJI’s app. The features and ease of use are so nice I am now using it for all my video edits for my standard videos. I was really hoping final cut provided much more capabilities than iMovie, but it is only marginally better. Some missing features that I find myself using on DJI is variable speed edits and beat stamps on audio files to help with video transition timing. These features exist on the MAC version and I just don’t understand how Apple continues to limit the capability of their software on the ipad. There is plenty of capacity on the iPad’s to add many of these features as other software options have shown. Bummer..Version: 1.0

Please make more user friendly for landscape videosWould love the option to edit short formed videos in landscape form. Please make it user friendly in landscape mode. Would be a game changer for content creators..Version: 1.0.1

JUST LET ME BUY IT , NOT SUBSCRIBE!Please drop the subscription model. I want to own the app , not rent it..Version: 1.0

Great UX but no manual Titles creation & app crashes a lotI suspected when FCP was launched in a low key manner by Apple that they were not serious about it. No external device support means cross device editing is impossible. The subscription pricing is immoral and means loss of hard work if payments missed. And in the time FCP has been out both Luma Fusion and Davinci Resolve have received major updates. FCP has a far better UX than either, yet is wasted. I sense this is a compliance app to keep 3rd party devs happy. One off purchase, manual Titles creation (no templates), fix crashes, Save to external storage then I’m in..Version: 1.2.1

Charged for in app training tutorial ( Joke )I was very excited for Final Cut to come to iPad. Seems to work ok for being a scaled down version of one of the greatest editing apps on the market however. Some of you might want to use the in app tutorial to get started and learn the very basics. Well the first 8 or 9 short tutorials work fine and give some very general info but once you click on number 10 a third party app wants to charge you a monthly fee for for last 10 or so short tutorials. Definitely a first for me. Could be a mistake by the creator but is enough for me to pull out and continue using any other editing app until they decide not to milk their customers. Note to developer. I would have been happy to pay a flat fee of around $300 the same as the desktop version over the $49 per year or $5 per month. Not a fan of subscriptions. Will change my review as things progress..Version: 1.0.1

Can’t work with Alpha channel videosI bought my iPad Pro for this new released Final Cut Pro app, but only to find out it can’t work with alpha channel videos. How can it be named ‘Pro’ and doesn’t even work with alpha channel videos?! Such a disappointment..Version: 1.0.1

Rip offI already paid a fortune for the Mac version. I thought Apple was better than this, charging again for a different device..Version: 1.0.1

Don’t like the subscription modelI bought the M2 iPad hoping that it can use same software as the M1 MacBook Pro. I was wrong and the long awaited FCP on iPad arrived but not exactly the same and require the annoying subscription. Why no option for perpetual license? Apple have to understand that not everyone like to subscribe. I don’t use Adobe for the same reason..Version: 1.1

Missing 360 video supportI was really hoping for final cut on the iPad to support 360 videos. Unfortunately because it does not support this video format I am canceling my subscription..Version: 1.0

One time payment requestWe need one time payment rather than monthly. So have to give 1 star due subscription system not reasonable.Version: 1.0

Why do I need to pay againLiterally upgraded from the 4th gen iPad Pro just to use this app, only to find out that you need a subscription to use it???.Version: 1.0.1

Not free as claimedInstall for free but not until you run it do you find that it is a subscription. This should have been mentioned in the description..Version: 1.0

No external drive support means this is just iMovieProHow can anyone take this seriously if you can’t use an external drive holding all the media? I’ve chosen the annual option but will cancel during the trial unless we’re told we can expect external storage options in a future update that will work on M1 iPad Pros and not on updated hardware. Media bins for organization is missing. No stabilization. No Bézier curves on keyframes (easing). No Mask tolerance settings in scene removal. XML support or transferring the project to another device is lacking. Tons of other things missing like heavily used shortcuts. For now, it’s just iMoviePro. Hopefully things will progressively get better..Version: 1.0

Problem for final cut proMy ipad m1 pro 12.9 inch, i’m install final cut pro but isn’t work once i open loading and loading for while its can’t open.Version: 1.0

Meh… Wes waited all this time for…?Apple has a bad habit of intentionally limiting their iPad apps. Pages, Keynote, now FCP. The M2 iPad can handle a full application so what gives? If they can port a substantially similar DaVinci to iPad than why do we only get Final Cut MOBILE?.Version: 1.0

Potential but so much missingNo external SSD support, no option to import LUTs from manufacturers beyond the basic included ones., no Outright price, Apple opting for a subscription model. So much missing that others has as a default, this feels very much like a beta product..Version: 1.0.1

Poor show! Surprising from Apple.I’m a Fcpx for Mac osx user and have been for many many years. I was initially so very excited by the prospect of being able to edit projects on my iPad Pro 12.9. Until I discovered that there is no ‘real’ compatibility between the versions - and the vital missing part for me, being able to edit from external SSD. It renders the iPad version pretty useless for Pro filmmaking. Very sad and hoping that Apple will get this sorted at some point. I’m currently considering the switch to Da Vince resolve on both desktop and iPad..Version: 1.3

Monthly or yearly???!!!Very disappointed with this monthly or yearly plans. Apple lowered its rank to a needy and desperate developer. Please reconsider ur decision and make it one time payment. Thank you.Version: 1.0

Mac FCP users forget this for nowWhen you’ve been using FCP on a Mac for 10 years plus and Apple brings out an iPad version, you kind of expect that they would be interoperable. Wrong, they’re not. There are workarounds, but basically projects are not yet formally interchangeable, so don’t waste your money, wait until version 3 on the iPad and it will probably work. Apple dev team, please pull out your fingers out. Once again the obvious has been missed. I blame the PMs not the guys who do the hard work, but the reality is another ball has been dropped..Version: 1.3

Subscription… Really? So let me see if I understand this, I paid $$$ for the full FCP version and bought all of it’s extensions for it’s full capability, and now Apple wants me to pay a subscription (like Adobe) for a much watered down, childish version of FCP???? Seriously Apple, even Adobe didn’t stoop that low..Version: 1.0.1

Good, but there’s lots of mistakesI think iMovie is way better and it cost nothing because you can’t VoiceOver you can’t add on FaceTime it’s impossible. It’s very bad on iPad and it saying like iMovie you can’t add in video effects. That’s what I bought this up for two stars.Version: 1.2

Needs a Mac with FCPX to export to otherwise you will be renting access to your projects forever.I suspect Apple does not want occasional or even regular users, they just want regular income and don’t care weather or not you actually use the product. Presumably the fear of losing access to your own work is the trap they want you to get stuck in, unless you buy a Mac and a copy of FCPX for OSX to export your projects on to. So then, why even bother paying for this cut down, rental only, limited version? The saying is becoming fact - “you will own nothing and be happy”, not even your personal video projects..Version: 1.1

LOST ALL MY WORKCurrently as of 30 minutes ago I was 3/4 of the way through creating my first proper YouTube video, maybe 2-3 days worth of work. I selected a music piece from Final Cut pros sound track selection called ‘basically famous’ or something like that as soon as I added it to my clip the app crashed completely so I closed the app as it’s auto saved every other time and upon on reboot boom the whole lot had gone. What a waste of time. I’d have been even more annoyed if I was not using the free trial but after this I can say I won’t be continuing the subscription like planned. Thanks apple..Version: 1.3

Forced against will into subscription model againIt seems as though there are no outright options for people who don’t want to go on a subscription model. Disappointing that after spending over $5,000 on Apple devices in last 12 months they want even more money for services which could be one-off purchases..Version: 1.1

Love it, but I want outright payment option. It’s about time isn’t it? Final Cut Pro was like a unicorn for such a long time. Well, here it is - but the kicker is, you HAVE to subscribe. NOTE: This is Apple’s first subscription app, and likely not the last. Unless we speak up? 1 star from me until they make an outright payment option. Name your price Apple! Don’t follow the crowd, what would Steve say?.Version: 1.0

Feels like a Beta versionApps looks and runs great. Missing a lot of features that prevents it from being useful. - Needs external storage support - Needs support for external LUTS - Needs video noise reduction features - Needs stabilization.Version: 1.0

Doesn’t work properlyHow do I animate on my videos.Version: 1.1

Fix the bugsAwesome system but keeps crashing.Version: 1.0.1

Not ptoJust expensive version of Imovie.Version: 1.0.1

Monthly subscriptionIt doesn’t matter if you paid for Final Cut Pro X before, you have to get a monthly subscription for the app.Version: 1.0

Won’t even get passed initial loading screenOnce I select my membership it says “loading” indefinitely. Super disappointed I was so excited to use this..Version: 1.0

It needs this featureSpeed ramping! For myself and other video professionals this is an essential tool! If it had this I would switch today..Version: 1.1

Subscription is a deal breakerI hate how everything has to be a subscription. If I can buy Final Cut on Mac and never have to worry about it again, why wouldn't the same be true for the ipad version?.Version: 1.0

Greedy.Okay, I’ve been waiting a long time for this. But, why do I still have to pay a subscription for something I’ve already paid $300 for on my old MacBook Pro..Version: 1.0

Stuck “loading’ on subscribe screenCannot get past the subscribe screen. All Requirements met..Version: 1.0

Needs external SSD supportI’m no pro videographer but I have a need for cutting and editing some GoPro and iPhone clips every now and then. I love how easy this app is to use but the fact that you must have all media loaded to the onboard iPad memory is ludicrous. The 1tb iPad is like $400 more than the base model and the 2tb is $400 more than that. I refuse to be price gouged for that kind of memory when I can build a 2TB external nvme m.2 drive for ~$120 If/when this app allows us to import and edit media directly on an external drive it'll be my go-to. Until then I’m staying on DaVinci or LumaFusion..Version: 1.0.1

Stuck at the loading screen after I click subscribeExcited to download FCP for iPad just to subscribe and be stuck at the loading screen. Can I get an added free day to my trial? Really want to try it out and see if it’ll convert me from LumaFusion..Version: 1.0

Continually crashingI like Final Cut on the iPad more than Mac OSX, but with 4K video the app crashes continually, making the app nearly useless..Version: 1.3

Great startI’m really enjoying editing using FCP on my iPad Pro. The only two thinks I hope that are added are the ability to mark spots on a timeline so I can circle back on a specific clip. The second item is a biggy and that’s the ability to edit off of an SSD, I know that there are bigger sized iPads but it doesn’t make sense to upgrade my iPad just for storage. Editing off of an SSD would be a big plus over other video editing apps on the iPad..Version: 1.0

STORAGE ISSUE!For some reason, iMovie, Logic Pro, and Final Cut Pro are not able to utilities the existing cached memory that iCloud Photo Library reserves. I spoke with an Apple Support tech recently and he said despite that I use iCloud Photo Library and it shows 75GB+ free storage, iMovie was not able to utilize that space. Now both Logic Pro and Final Cut Pro for iPad are seemingly having the same issue. Not happy! 👎🏼.Version: 1.0

Subscription? Is Apple following the other companies? What happened to buying a program for one single fee?.Version: 1.0.1

No subscription unless…I spent $300 on the Mac version. I asked and asked and asked if the iPad Pro would get FCP. No info what so ever. Why? Why can’t they let us know? Now they release the iPad version. I have to pay a subscription? NOO! If you paid the big bucks for the Mac version the iPad version should be part of the deal. If you don’t have the desktop version then yes, I see value in it. But no subscription if you paid for the Mac version. What…? Apple needs more revenue? Gimme a break..Version: 1.0

This App Refuses To OpenI’ve restarted, deleted, & redownloaded repeatedly with absolutely NO RESULTS. Except a spinning grey spiral of STASIS & DEATH. By way of contrast? Logic Pro for iPad opens just fine. What an Auspicious WAY TO BEGIN ONE STAR UNTIL FINAL CUT PRO FOR iPAD ACTUALLY OPENS.Version: 1.0

Paid for Final Cut Pro on my Mac, have to pay again on iPadI paid for Final Cut Pro with my M2 Max purchase, and I bought iPad Pro to aid me edits if I am on the move, but now I find out that these are two seperate subscriptions and I have to pay for it again. Really weird for apple to do so.Version: 1.3

Good but needs workThere are a few things needed to make my transition from Lumafusion: 1. LUTs & Better color grading 2. Ability to create and save presets 3. Ability to import media as in Lumafusion, and have it available from one project to all others. Media such as audio, video and effects saved in Files or a external storage. 4. Option to have custom settings for all future projects rather than having to customize the settings per project every time 5. Ability to freely customize UI. I would very much prefer the Inspect panel on the right side as well as keeping the project media and effects on the right hand side. 6. I would love to be able to import all my media over from Lumafusion as well I really love the design of your app and how well it works on the new iPad with apple pencil, but it still needs a lot of work before I can commit 100% on FCP. For now I will continue with LF and do final touch ups on FC.Version: 1.0.1

Subscription onlyGet DaVinci resolve instead. They let to pay to own, instead of forcing you to rent..Version: 1.0

App hangs after selecting subscriptionDownloaded and installed fine. During initial startup, after selecting subscription, presented with a “Loading” label, with a buffering animation. Watched it for half hour, no change. If I minimise the app, when I return. It is back to the subscription selector. Tried using the “Report a Problem” link, which just buffers after signing in..Version: 1.0

No way to record V.O directly into app.No external SSD support, this is IMovie pro and nothing more, a waste of money..Version: 1.0.1

Won't loadThe app installs, i can tap it and select a sub option but then it just hangs on "Loading...". Tried rebooting ipad, removing and reinstalling etc but no luck. ?.Version: 1.0

FCP crashes after trying to subscribeI have the latest iPad Pro. When trying to subscribe to FCP after opening it, message says Loading, then you get the wheel of death which disappears after a while and nothing happens. Tried installing latest iPadOS 16.5, restarted the device and reinstalled FCP but to no avail. Very unfortunate as I have to edit an urgent project beyond iMovie’s capabilities and my computer is out for repair. I’ve extensive experience with FCP and now I have to learn to use Da Vinci in a hurry. Not good, Apple..Version: 1.0

Stuck loading trying to start trialNot working on 5th gen 12.9 1tb pro, have removed app and reinstalled several times, restarting iPad several times with no luck, unfortunate..Version: 1.0

Subscription and no Custom LUTsIt isn’t a bad application but users who shelled out large money for the Mac app should get a discount on the subscription. Also the lack of custom LUTs for DJI drone users and others make it a bit limiting. It is a great add on to a Final Cut for Mac workflow and this is another reason why that should be a discount. I would also imagine a future where a subscription for the iPad app and the desktop app would make an option. I hope it will mature over the next year and hopefully some regeneration of Mac Final Cut owners will follow..Version: 1.0

I was excited…The app, which I was extremely excited to see coming to the iPad, is a let down. I mean, Lumafusion has been my go to app for video editing for awhile now, & in my opinion, is leaps & bounds better than FCP in every way. This surprises me as FCP has always been highly recommended & is built by Apple to work on Apple products. I’m going to continue to tinkering around on it until the trial is over, but I’m highly certain I’ll be canceling it as of now. If that changes, I’ll update the review..Version: 1.0

Constantly Having To Sign In To EditI don’t mind to pay for this app, but having to constantly sign in to edit is driving me crazy! Also, where is the stabilization? And the fact that you can’t edit off of a hard drive makes this almost useless for anyone who wants to use this beyond personal use..Version: 1.0.1

Not sureAlthough it’s a good and well designed app, it lacks of simple functionalities such as the ability of adding markers on the timeline. Also, keeps crashing & gets slow after 1 minute of edited footage (4K 30fps, no transitions, no effects applied). I have a iPad Pro 11 inch M2, and wasn’t expecting such slow and sluggish performance. I think this version of Final Cut still has a long way to be called Pro..Version: 1.1

Can’t even get past the login screen? Can’t even try it out! Asks me to choose a subscription then just gives me a spinning ‘Loading’ tab? Looking for a fix it seems I’m not the only one...Version: 1.0

The log-in issueSame here with the log-in issue. 12.9” M1, 1 TB. Logic Pro for iPad installed perfectly. I’m so excited to try FCPX on iPad, as a long-term Mac user…so I hope I’ll be able to do so soon..Version: 1.0.1

No External Microphone SupportDon’t get me wrong, this is packed with great features. But the lack of external microphone support as well as any form of audio editing is very frustrating. How I produce my videos is dependent on narration, and without it, this is of very limited use to me. Hope this feature is expedited..Version: 1.0.1

Another way to get more moneyI think this ridiculous that I paid $300 for Final Cut Pro on my MacBook Pro, yet I still have to pay monthly for this. Apple you should have thought that one through. Normal Final Cut Pro users should have access to this without paying. I have Adobe Creative Cloud and whether it is mobile or not I have access to their products. Guess I won’t be using Final Cut Pro anymore!.Version: 1.0

Crashed and app closedI am using latest iPad Pro 12.9 m2 16gb ram 1 tb Just used two 4k clips and one song then it crashed. But so far the app is looking good and of course with some updates it will be best, which I am looking forward too. I bought the iPad for this app by the way!! And will change my rating to 5 stars once optimized to perform better!.Version: 1.0

Half-baked, feels like an early betaI was very excited for FCP for iPad. It’s got some neat features and I’m sure updates will improve it, but there are some glaring issues that make it easy for me to stick with LumaFusion for now. 1) No scrolling timeline (the playhead will scroll off the screen and that makes very little sense). The way LumaFusion does it is far more intuitive IMO. 2) No ability to edit from an external SSD 3) No support for full screen external monitor display (LumaFusion does) 4) LumaFusion has a Storyblocks subscription integration that makes it easy to find royalty-free music, sounds, etc. Nothing in FCP yet. 5) No third party LUT support. 6) You can’t copy/paste or multi select clips and apply the same effects. You have to go one by one which is insane. 7) The performance on my M1 2TB iPadPro 12.9 (5th gen) is ok, but it’s much smoother in LumaFusion..Version: 1.0.1

Proper color grading missingCan this be worked on as it is such a crucial feature also the ability to add custom LUTs.Version: 1.2.1

Final Cut Pro on MacBook vs IPadI don’t understand why I would have to have a subscription when I already made my one time payment to have access to Final Cut Pro on my MacBook. Really disappointed in this..Version: 1.0

Subscribe to… I AM ALREADY SUBSCRIBEDConstantly being blocked by their crappy DRM that clearly doesn’t work..Version: 1.0.1

This should be free for people who purchased Final Cut on MacWhy should we have to pay twice on Mac and iPad just to be mobile? And on top of that its a subscription? Horrible….Version: 1.0.1

MehAfter play for a while I don’t see myself using this over FCP no my Mac. This iPad Final Cut is just a glorified version of iMovie in steroids. Is not bad, is just not worth for those who has Final Cut in a Mac. At least there is a trial so you don’t waste your Money. But lets home for something better since is the version 1.0 of course.Version: 1.0
