IKEA Home smart for Negative User Reviews

Bring back remote pairing for lights.Unless you bring back per light pairing via a remote I’m not upgrading. Tried to get lights connected via Digirera hub and it was a total failure. I have 8 lights on some circuits and it would never find them all. Tradfri wasn’t perfect but as least it worked..Version: 1.22.1

It does not workSince changing routers it simply doesn’t connect anymore. The correct light is pulsating but the app no longer recognizes the hub. Even when it worked it oftentimes took me three reopens of the app before it did its job. Super frustrating.Version: 1.3.1

Intermittent connectivityThe hub quits working about 30% of the time and won’t connect. Also won’t work with the remote control. Needs more lighting options to keep lights on if overcast..Version: 1.21.0

Fewer features than TradfriI had high hopes for the new Dirigera hub, but unfortunately Ikea have released a less than minimum viable product. I am probably going to return the new hub and stick with the Tradfri until Ikea implement at least the same functionality. An example: Shortcut buttons. Tradfri allowed multiple actions to be configured for each button depending on how many times you pressed the button. Dirigera now only allows one action. I can turn my plug socket on, but I can’t turn it off. My recommendation: Wait at least 6 months to a year before buying..Version: 1.1.0

Big improvement over TradfriThe dirgibilityboo hub is a great improvement to the original gateway. It is still missing the promised Matter update. This app would be better if it supported the older tradfri hub as well as the Dillinger hub..Version: 1.22.1

Very buggyInterface does look and seem in the long run to be a lot better, but at the moment very buggy. Would be good if there was a way to reboot the device without having to unplug after loosing connection to my shortcut button. IKEA need to be dealing with the bugs quicker.Version: 1.2.0

HomeKit - unusableI can’t use my IKEA DIRIGERA Hub as there’s a severe bug with the Apple HomeKit integration! Once I set up the device (after a full reset) most of my connected accessories stop responding in the (Apple) Home app. Please fix this ASAP!.Version: 1.1.0

Unacceptably buggyThere are a few things to like about this new app and the Ikea hardware. Unfortunately, however (a) the app is riddled with bugs and (b) there is ZERO useful customer support. Every attempt at support lands up with completely clueless Ikea staff who only know about the furniture. There is zero useful documentation, FAQs, or anything else. To give an example of the sort of bugs that permeate the app as soon as you try to do *anything* interesting, consider the issue of linking of a remote to a device. In the old Tradfri days, Ikea shipped multiple remotes that all looked essentially the same, apart from the logos embossed on them, for lights, blinds, and sockets. But in those days you could only use a remote for its designated product class, even though technically there was no reason for this. One of the promises of Dirigera is that it ends this stupidity and you can use any remote where appropriate. So I have a remote that was originally for Fyrtur blinds. I want to use it with a Tradfri plug. How do I get Ikea to do this? It appears to STILL be impossible, even though the app claims it can be done. You add the Tradfri smart plug to a room. You add the remote to a room. If you look at the remote in the Smart Home app, it specifically says "can be used to control lights or plugs"... BUT there is no way to connect to the plug If I add a light (and remember this was originally a blinds remote) I CAN link the remote to the light. In other words there is a bug in the app. Someone hooked up the code to connect a blinds remote to a light, but forgot the code that connects it to a smart plug. Bugs are present, sure, we accept that. But arrogance at a level that pretends there will never be bugs, and so there is no need for a feedback channel to report them? That's a very dangerous attitude, unlikely to result in either quality products or much customer delight....Version: 1.9.0

Idea greatIn general I like it. However too often a unit is apparently offline when I used it seconds prior and then I can’t turn off a light unless I reset the unit or the hub. Once that’s ok but several times a week is annoying. If that gets sorted it is a great idea to open and close blinds, lights etc. Ideally it would be if I can access when not at home. So I could turn on and off lights for safety reasons..Version: 1.16.1

Can only improveI rushed out and got this hub the first day it was available - around six weeks ago. I did so, because I was tired of the lag when pressing some shortcut buttons. It’s been an interesting experience so far - as others have pointed out, Apple Home integration still needs some work. Unlike others, I can program three actions per button in the Apple Home app and I have buttons where all three actions work. However, there are some buttons which don’t work - at all. The click is registered in the Home App but nothing happens. I’ve also had the random lights coming on /going off when buttons haven’t been pressed. Overall, I think the only way is up with this. I’m looking forward to future improvements and many more smart accessories. Early adopters will always be on the bleeding edge and things can only get better! Keep on cranking, IKEA!.Version: 1.2.0

Regretted to buy thatThis product is very unstable. I set a specific time to adjust the brightness of the lights, but only some of them respond correctly. Some even display incorrect brightness levels. The controller is placed directly beneath the light, I had to adjust manually every time, which is disappointing..Version: 1.23.1

Inconsistency in PerformanceWhile the idea of motion-activated lights is appealing, I have encountered some issues with the performance of the sensors and limitations in the IKEA Home Smart app that have affected my overall satisfaction with the product. One of the main concerns is the inconsistency in the sensors' performance. There are times when the sensors do not detect motion, leaving the area in darkness when it should be illuminated. This unreliability can be frustrating, especially when navigating through the home during nighttime or in spaces with low natural light. Additionally, the limited range of timer options available for controlling how long the lights stay on after being activated by the sensors is inconvenient. Currently, the app offers settings from 2 minutes up to 10 minutes. However, it would be beneficial to have more timer options, including longer durations or even the option to keep the lights on permanently. I believe that IKEA should address these concerns by improving the sensors' reliability and updating their Home Smart app to include more timer options. This would provide greater flexibility and control over lighting preferences, enhancing the user experience and making the sensors a more versatile and practical solution for various scenarios. Despite these issues, the installation process for the sensors was straightforward. However, the inconsistent performance and limited customization options in the app have restricted the overall usefulness of the product for my needs. I hope IKEA considers addressing these issues in future product revisions and app updates to better accommodate diverse customer requirements. Rating: 2/5 stars.Version: 1.11.0

Issue with 2 hubs so farI am experiencing the same issue with 2 Dirigera hubs. Overall the app cannot find the hubs. I am doing everything the right way, also went to the Ikea store and the people there were not able to assist. Have searched everything regarding the issue I am facing and I saw that many others have the same problem. I will change the score of the review once the issue is fixed. Re: I have tried two routers: 1st and main one: Smartcom DE GB (provided by local internet provider) 2nd used as extender to the first one: TP-Link TL-WR840N I have tried on both 2.4GHz and 5GHz over the first router and nothing worked. I am stuck on step in the app that no hub was found. The second router is 2.4GHz only and I encounter the same issue. I want to add that I went to local store and the employees gave me a new hub that is not working as well..Version: 1.7.0

A Work in ProgressAfter purchasing the new DIRIGERA hub & setting it up on my iPhone there it sits. The software IKEA Home Smart is in its early stages. It shows great promise but not there yet. Before I add my ikea smart products to the new hub Ikea needs to (1) release a migration process. (2) bring matter to the hub, (3) release an iPad version & (4) have it work across multiple devices. I look forward to seeing the software mature to a point where it is worth the risk to move to it..Version: 1.22.1

Missing FeatureThis system does not have the ability to cycle through all of the colours in its spectrum on command. It’s a very nice feature to have if you’re having a party or celebrating something to be able to just click a couple of screens and have your lights just gently slowly cycle through the reds and greens and yellows.with this system, you can change the colours but you have to do it manually one room at a time and then after that there is no ability to automatically cycle through the colors. Having said all of that, the system is easy to use and the bulbs are comparably priced in comparison to other big box stores..Version: 1.22.1

Unreliable and incomplete homekit integrationOnly the Tradfri shortcut button and motion sensor (not the Tradfri on/off dimmer or symfonisk remotes) are exposed to homekit, and even these keep becoming non-functional after a few days. Onboarding a new DIRIGERA gateway is a fiddle too, lots of rebooting and retrying to get it to even work..Version: 1.6.0

Email verification not working“Verify a host email” is giving errors for the last month. No way to manage system remotely..Version: 1.23.1

So buggy nothing could be set upTook me an hour of constantly resetting my hub for the app to finally accept it. No products are being recognised. App keeps bugging out and saying I’ve made a room then shows no rooms or added products. Really frustrating..Version: 1.3.1

Scene timer not workingWhile the app is promising, I cannot turn off a scene on a scheduled time. Timer is turned on at sunset, but I can only set a duration for turning off, not at a scheduled time. Hopefully this can be fixed, as this was working well in the old Tradfri app. Update: scenes are working great now, thanks for adding the timer. One more thing I’d like to request. We have some lamps that allows us to change the light colour. However, when the light turns off as scheduled, and turns on the next day, it has “forgotten” the light colour setting, and has defaulted back to the whitest setting. The Tradfri app did keep the light colour setting..Version: 1.7.0

Short cut button’s stopped workingIs it just me or new update killed shortcut buttons? Update: apple home kit identified the shortcut button but it says “Controller not supported”.Version: 1.2.0

I’m presently surprised if it does work. This app is so inconsistent, it’s basically unusable on its own and has to be connect to Apple HomeKit to work, even then it’s very hit and miss..Version: 1.12.0

Very IrritatedI bought IKEA’s smart blinds which are my first foray into the company’s smart ecosystem. They said it was compatible with Google Home but that I needed to buy their hub to enable functionality. Fine. I’ll tell you, set up was not simple. I had to reconfigure my router setup in order to get the hub to connect to my router. Once I did that, it setup fine but just getting to that point was a bunch of trial and error. Next came setting the maximum length of the blinds. Currently the two blinds I have are about a centimeter different which really bothers me, but there seems to be no way to adjust them without completely deleting the blind and re-adding it. I’m willing to just tolerate it to keep my sanity. All the above I can live with, they’re small things. But the one thing that has upset me more than anything is that about 50% of the time, my automations don’t work. They just refuse to close at sunset like I’ve programmed without me telling Google to close them. I know I did it right because it did it a few times the first few days I owned the blinds. The reason this upsets me so much is because IKEA could have made these blinds to enable Google automations, but they didn’t. I can only do automations through IKEA’s app, which obviously isn’t working. If IKEA would simply allow Google to do it, it would work fine. So until they fix this junky app and their hardware to allow me to do the one thing with my blinds that I wanted (open them at sunrise, close them at sunset), they’re lucky they get a second star from me..Version: 1.18.0

HomeKit still very buggyStill experiencing issues with the latest version. In fact it seems worse :( I now get lingering bulbs showing up after removing the connection in both HomeKit and ikea home smart and restarting both. There is also an issue when first trying to add HomeKit integration. Once it’s set up if you go back in the ikea app it shows there is no HomeKit integration. Also now have lots of unresponsive ikea Bulbs. How can we raise the issues with the developers better so they can get fixed? Even with the latest update I still have phantom lights and simple scenes don’t work at all. I have tried deleting the integration from both ends and redone it but hasn’t made any difference. I just ended up with yet more phantom bulbs..Version: 1.2.0

Dirigea failInvested in Dirigea, tons of light fixtures and bulbs and the new app, only to find out there is no timer functionality. So much for IKEA Smart Home … an omission like that makes it IKEA Stupid Home..Version: 1.16.3

Buggy app and devices that hopefully will improveApp has numerous UI and functionality issues. Multiple duplicate devices, refusing to connect and just general “jank”. The dirigera hub has a lot of promise with thread/matter support. Hoping both the app and product continues to improve..Version: 1.1.0

Easy setup, lacks featuresVery easy to set up and add new devices. The Dirigera hub and the app have worked flawlessly each time I have added a new device or moved lights around to different rooms. However, the app is lacking in features. There’s no sunrise sunset option to have lights change dim level gradually over a time period. There’s no way to organize or sort scenes. You should at least be able to sort scenes by either schedule or name..Version: 1.18.0

Rarely worksI need to restart the app almost every time for it to connect to my hub. HomeKit doesn’t work all..Version: 1.19.1

TRÅDFRI shortcut buttons not showing up in HomeKitI’m able to add new shortcut buttons to the IKEA Home Smart app, but they do not show up in HomeKit, even after ensuring the bridge and the buttons are all on the latest firmware. I originally had issues when I first got the DIRIGERA gateway where new shortcut buttons wouldn’t show up in HomeKit until I removed and re-added the integration, and even then I faced an issue where one of my buttons would stop responding in HomeKit. Now I’m not able to see anything in HomeKit so my shortcut buttons are entirely useless..Version: 1.14.0

What a slap in the faceLiterally zero attention paid to existing Tradfri users trying to migrate to Dirigera..Version: 1.3.1

Buggy App, No way to Check for FW updatesBuggy App where it forgets things I already configured DURING initial configuration. Does not migrate anything from previous Tradfri hub nor previous Smart Home app. IKEA needs to add a way to Check for Dirigera & accessory updates MANUALLY! Functionality removed from previous Home Smart app. Not impressed. Also does not integrate rooms list with HomeKit, & HomeKit integration is manual, app does not prompt during initial setup. Half baked app!.Version: 1.9.0

Don't buy!Limited, to no support. Product does not stay connected, and IKEA doesn’t seem to care!.Version: 1.22.1

Does not work on IPadAs there is no support on the ikea web site for the DIRigera I guess this is the only way to let you know that on an iPad you can’t accept the terms and conditions as the prompt is not displayed at all. 2 stars for selling hardware with no support nor documentation.Version: 1.1.0

Ooops, something went wrongVerifing via email does not work, so cannot connect to Alexa. No clue as to what the issue is as i just get ‘Ooops, something went wrong An error occured. Please try again.’ My setup is now completely useless, and have no clue as to how to fix it..Version: 1.6.0

Useless AppThis app is pure garbage. I am trying to connect to my brand new Dirigera but the app just won’t see the hub. Also, the support page is absolutely useless..Version: 1.1.0

Requires a hub deviceMany ikea products have the “Works with Ikea Home Smart” logo. However, it doesn’t state that the app requires a hub device to work. Misleading. Returned the bulb and deleted the app..Version: 1.3.1

Cannot add more Styrbar remotesApp in my experience is not quite as bad as many report and HomeKit integration works for me, however I have an issue I’m unable to resolve.. when attempting to add additional Styrbar remotes the app fails and even starting from scratch and repeatedly configuring over 80 lights and a dozen remotes will not work.Version: 1.3.1

Horrible. Absolutely horrible. This by far is the worst app experience I’ve ever had. I bought the Dirigiria to use with some black out blinds from IKEA. Set up was a pain, but I did finally get it to work initially. However, after a couple of days, the blinds started raising at 3 am. This continued for 3 to 4 days straight, despite me trying every single possible fix available to address the issue. Nothing worked. Very disappointed. I will be returning the blinds and the hub and deleting this app. IKEA is good for cheap furniture. I would not look to them for any sort of electronic devices..Version: 1.7.0

No iPad SupportWhy… with Swift UI is there no support for iPad screen. It’s likely the primary device people will use for house control if they have one..Version: 1.11.0

Awful! The new Dirigera hub made a mess of my HomeKit setup! After tediously removing every ikea item from my HK automations and then re-adding them once connected via the new hub none of those automations worked. The shortcut buttons only have ONE function with the new hub instead of the 3 they had with the old one, and although the three functions are retained in the Apple Home app, none of them work! Any scene associated with a shortcut button also runs itself at random times. This hub is about as smart as it’s annoying upside-down ikea logo suggests, and for twice the price of the old one?! Avoid at all costs, especially if you’re an Apple Home user! Since the recent firmware update, HomeKit integrations appears to be a bit more stable. However, the shortcut buttons are still 1 function only, and my blind never reports as being “Open”. Only “Closed” or forever “Opening” regardless of it’s position. I’ve removed the hub and gone back to Tradfri..Version: 1.2.0

Very flaky system, so app doesn’t work properlyI have wasted hours of my life trying to commission the hub with the app to manage 4 motorised cellular blinds. There is no troubleshooting help from IKEA and the support people don’t understand it. One can be connected to the blind and see it’s position and battery status in the app but when you cm end it to open or close it doesn’t move. All tech support could offer was to wipe everything and start again, tried that and now nothing connects at all! Avoid these products if you want a hassle-free life. The system needs to be much better designed to connect and stay connected, and then to actually enable remote control, since monitoring blinds is not the point..Version: 1.16.3

Alexa integration broken, no WiFi errorsWhen linking to Alexa, none of the devices showed up. Next day, some did. When using the App, it can’t find the hub although it’s hard wired and I’m on the WiFi. The app doesn’t work unless you are home Applehomekit integration works flawlessly..Version: 1.11.0

No Gradual Transitions? Wakeup? The ads say that the hub lets you wake up gradually. But the functionality doesn’t exist. Please add gradual transitions to brightness and color..Version: 1.18.0

ShuffleCan you add the feature that shuffles a playlist on a scene where a music playlist is played from Sonos? This used to work on the old system. I have certain scenes that I use and the playlist is super long and every time I launch the playlist it starts from the beginning. I know all the first songs by heart since they are always playing..Version: 1.4.0

Have to always RestartThe app doesn’t reflect current status of lights and doesn’t allow toggling of lights unless the app is closed and opened again. Pain!.Version: 1.18.0

BugsGood system in theory, but the smart blinds I have work well with the app but disconnects the controller, if I reconnect the controller it disconnects them from the app and hub. Would be nice to have the smart controls on the phone for my blinds but also have the option to manually control them when required..Version: 1.16.0

Not-so-Smart HomeHave been using the system for a year. Woke up today with half the devices missing from the system and showing as “new products to add”. Have also been entirely unable to pair up the air monitoring device (Vkastywhatever)..Version: 1.15.0

Avoid! This new app, along with DIRIGERA, has utterly trashed my HomeKit setup. I now have phantom duplicate lights that can’t be removed in HomeKit, setting brightness does not work, devices sometimes don’t respond. I also cannot remove the HomeKit integration either, it’s stuck on. IKEA should be ashamed of having released this. It is a buggy mess. Stick to the old app and avoid using a DIRIGERA hub. UPDATE: IKEA responded and the “fix” has made things even worse. IKEA, this app is an embarrassment to the brand. Why did you release this? It is so far from ready and has been one of the most frustrating experiences I’ve ever had in tech..Version: 1.2.0

Alexa integration isn’t working… beware!I really like the product ecosystem and the app, but Alexa integration is not working for my paired lights. HomeKit and Google Home see the lights and have worked well, so far. But, I primarily use Alexa, so this has not been a seamless customer experience for me. I just spent a considerable amount of money on smart blinds from IKEA. They’re not up yet, and I’m anxious because when checking the reviews, I see it’s been over a third of a year of problems with Alexa integration. I understand products will have bugs, and IKEA has acknowledged the problems in their replies, but that’s a long time to go without a resolution. Here’s hoping that IKEA will come through soon..Version: 1.5.0

No shuffle option with symfonisk buttonApp doesn't allow you to shuffle a playlist when starting a playlist on your sonos speaker, only play from the beginning..Version: 1.1.0

Version: 1.2.0

App works, Alexa not so muchThe app worked great and found my devices quickly with my DIRIGERA hub. However, even though it says it integrated with Alexa, it doesn’t add my devices to the Alexa device list. I tested this on Apple HomeKit, which I have but don’t use, and it setup easily and found my devices instantly so it’s definitely an Alexa issue. Hopefully an app update will fix this issue unless I’m doing something wrong..Version: 1.1.0

Déconnection HomeKitLe système ce déconnecte toujours avec HomeKit. Il reste connecté un jour puis sans réponse par la suite… suis-je le seul ? Dommage pour un aussi beau et gros système!.Version: 1.2.0

Forgots lightsFrom time to time it forgets lights and I have to Re add them again . Hopefully an update will fix this.Version: 1.12.0

Buggy since last updateSince the last update which introduced remote control via Internet, outside of the home, the app will often not react to commands when I am inside of my home network. Restarting the app will usually fix the issue, but I’d expect better from IKEA..Version: 1.18.0

MehPretty basic and barebones app despite looking polished. Lacking a lot of automations and ways that IKEA products can work with one another (Vindstyker). Also - why isn’t Matter supported yet?.Version: 1.20.0

No iPad supportCan’t give an app more than 2 stars for no iPad support in 2023.Version: 1.17.1

BasicIt works but it’s very basic. Does not support features like wake up/sunrise alarm which is quite disappointing considering the cost of the hardware..Version: 1.18.0

No app support recommendationWorks well and works with a few home offerings. But I turned off the drigera hub and all of the rooms were then reset in the app and the HomeKit Set it all back up again.Version: 1.2.0

Fails to integrate with AlexaFails to integrate with Alexa.Version: 1.1.0

Seems very limited. It’s a nicely a laid out app with pleasing icons and directions. But adding lights is disappointing. Coloured Tradfri GU10 spots for example - you’re only given a range of about 32 colours. And no sensible ones for daytime switching from cool to warm. Also having trauma understanding the firmware. The GU10’s are at 1.21.0. Asked IKEA support if this was the latest version only to be told the bulbs contained no firmware! How do they work then?!.Version: 1.10.0

No firmware update capability and shortcut button disconnectsHave the latest hub firmware, but shortcut buttons won’t update and the app has no way to force updates. Constant shortcut button disconnects. Keep removing and reinstalling them, but they won’t stay connected even though I keep them 5 feet from the hub. Battery life of shortcut buttons is very poor..Version: 1.2.0

Updated review: HomeKit integration brokenMy initial experience for excellent. By now the ikea home app isn’t connecting properly with the Apple home app / HomeKit. Lights are showing as no responses or when you try to turn them off they don’t. Terrible. It’s advertised as working with HomeKit. It doesn’t. Ikea are misselling this product..Version: 1.2.0

It’s brilliant, but not perfectI do like the app, hub etc. but the connection from the app to the hub can be dubious, even though the hub is in the same room. So you try and switch your light on and you have to faff about trying to connect the app to the hub! Hence three stars..Version: 1.22.1

Not goodI’ve used the original ikea hub and app for years and it’s ok. I thought I’d give the new hub a go and what a huge disappointment it’s been so far. On the old hub new devices automatically show up in Apple HomeKit but in the new one I can’t for the life of me make new devices on the hub show in HomeKit. No amount of rebooting etc works. The only work around seems to be to disconnect the hub entirely and set up from scratch which is clearly impracticable if you’ve already built automations in HomeKit as they have to be set up every time. I’ll try for a few more days but if nothing works it’s going back to Ikea for a refund..Version: 1.9.0

Matter?I upgraded to this hub (from the older hub) because of Matter which I understand was scheduled for early 2023, but with 13 days left until 2024, it still isn't available 🤔.Version: 1.22.1
