Chess - tChess Lite for Negative User Reviews

Good for beginnersJust learning to play on the free learning app think this app should really be free too but still good never the less great for beginers.Version: 0

Great app, but...App should teach and train through drills/ exercises, how to be a better player..Version: 1.8.4

Multiplayer UselessUsed to really like this app but it is now only good for single player vs computer. Online gamecentre is now impossible. Constantly crashes app, crashes gamecentre, useless. I hope this can be fixed as I play a lot with friends around Europe, but now this is impossible. Today after 2.5hrs of checking various settings on iPad, in game settings, gamecentre settings, friends device settings (etc, etc) we had to give up. Wish I could give more stars as I like the game and was a big fan of the App, but online player mode is now a major dissapointment. Avoid until bugs are fixed !!!.Version: 1.8.3

OkThis app is good but for improvement: •show the pieces that you have taken and that have been taken from you. •show who wins when game ends..Version: 0

Better than Expected, not iPhone readyI already have quite a few free chess apps that are really good - for example - Chess Free - which I have been enjoying and playing for many months, several times a day. tChess Lite is the 1st "Lite" game that I have actually paid for. While it does have a beautiful 3D interface (the selling point for me) this chess game does not appear iPhone ready as it does not seem to have a landscape 3D view/rotation. Also missing is Bluetooth connectivity to play with a friend. My understanding is that none of this is available on the $7.99 version. When these two items are available on the "Lite" version, currently $0.99, (more difficult levels available on the $7.99 version) then I can appoint five (5) stars and a firm "buy" recommendation. Until then, stick will Chess Free for your own game play or Live Chess for 3D Bluetooth play with a friend. Don't let 3D curiosity get the best of you even for $0.99..Version: 0

Pocket rocketI can't understand some of the ratings for this -- it's a marvellous wee chess game, for virtually no money at all. The engine is smart enough to challenge you to fun games, and the UI is lovely. Recommended above the other chess games in the App store..Version: 0

Good, but...I like this app. and consider it good value for the price. However it does have it's faults and the two I find most irritating, are the very flaky quality of the Chat option when playing via ; and the apps annoying habit of claiming - no, taking - stalemates from seemingly hopeless positions..Version: 1.7.1

Nice but only for kids.Too easy to defeat. Highest difficulty only about 1200 rating according to app. That is generous in my opinion..Version: 1.8.3

Basic algorithm but great interface!!Ok.. So I am not really a chess expert and I had a hard time winning computer chess games. But this algorithm is probably the most basic I have come across. Once I found out that the algorithm can easily fall into rather standard strategies, I had wins after wins against the program, one time I forced it to checkmate in 7 moves!! .. And I haven't ever done that against any one else yet. oh well! But we can't really complain for a .99 game.. Overall it's a good buy for the beautiful and very usable interface. If you are just looking to revisit the school days (like I was) or just getting comfortable with the board this is definitely a good buy. If you want to improve your game through iPhone, then paying won't be a bad idea..Version: 0

Nice little program, shall be able to save multiple gamesGood basic capabilities. Does not dumb down by throwing away pieces in the beginning but make pretty basic mistakes at endgame even at level 5. It gives away an equal material game at the end. Biggest complaint from me is that it can only saves 1 game! Not good enough for a paid program. If the t chess professional version is only 500 ELO stronger. Chessgenius would be much stronger and a better learning tool for $2.00 more..Version: 0

Just wont work for multi-playerI tried so many times, but not worth the frustration and poor UI for settings..Version: 1.8.6

Not great...deleting and buying anotherComputer never resigns and most irritating declares stalemate when you can beat it ! Has just done it with me having 3 Queens and computer only has King ! it has done this several times and that's it game is over, guaranteed to greatly annoy....Game is functional at best.....done it again.... Well and truly beaten...down to a king and pawn and it declares a draw..... Poor.Version: 1.8.2

Current version unusableLooks nice at first, but makes it impossible to play a normal game. Sometimes trivially legal moves are classified as illegal and blocked so that it becomes impossible to play a normal game. Avoid before update..Version: 0

Get Shredder insteadSearched for reviews of chess apps all over the net - Shredder & tChess seemed to emerge as the top 2 contenders. Tried Shredder Lite - Great! Then tChess Lite - very disappointed that I had to fork out money to test drive a LITE version of tChess - that's just wrong. For those interested in 3D boards (I was, and that attracted me to tChess - Shredder doesn't have 3D), if you have an iPad, that's fine (the 3D worked well), but note that AN IPHONE SCREEN IS JUST TOO SMALL TO TRY AND DO CHESS IN 3D! This is the case, regardless of how good the programming might be. That said, tChess doesn't allow landscaped mode, which would increase the amount you can zoom the board before you start losing stuff off the screen. Shredder is more feature rich, has a world class engine (12-time world champion), with real ELO ratings (while tChess' engine is untested in the professional arena, and therefore unrated). When it comes to actually playing chess (on a 2D board that I can clearly see the whole of, thank you very much), the actual game play of tChess Lite was perfectly acceptable. 30 minutes after opening tChess Lite, I returned to Shredder Lite (man I wish lite versions were all free - that quick test-run cost me money!), and have since upgraded to the full version of Shredder. (I didn't upgrade for weeks - you would have to be quite a good player to be limited by the free version.) I did my homework, tested them out, and (3D aside), Shredder CLEARLY won..Version: 1.5.5

GoodOnly problem it crashes every time I load it.Version: 1.7.2

Need to upgrade.Well, I must agree, that even up to level 4, this chess engine is pretty weak. It moves so quickly, that it can't really put much "thought" into its moves. And it shows -- routinely getting itself into nasty pins, and not protecting its back-rank for the opportunities for a quick piece grab. The app itself is clean, good interface, looks nice. I hope the pro version plays alot better, as I'm probably going to upgrade. Also, PLEASE make the "offer draw" and resign options easier (right now they are completely hidden in the statistics menus). Hoping the pro version either has, or will have, options to save and send/share games. Thanks..Version: 0

Good games but its a poor loser!Good games and addictive but it's very hard to up your rating when playing rated games against the computer as it concedes a stalemate/draw rather than admit to losing! Even when it's clear that it's lost!! And you cannot contest this!!!! This is less likely to occur when you play against it in non-rated games. Very frustrating. Poor gamesmanship ! Otherwise good challenges.....Version: 1.6.0

Doesn't connectWaste of money, can not connect to anyone to play online. Bought the app only to play online and now I can't..Version: 1.8.3

VERY poor chess engineDon't try to learn about proper chess with this app! Though this isn't the "pro" version, the chess engine is bad enough that I won't even try the other product. The computer is easily defeated even at the tougher difficulty settings. What's really troubling is that, when I played a game at moderate (4) difficulty, and let the computer choose all MY moves (the "hint" button), I was checkmated after watching one of the poorest-played games in history. And I'm a casual player. Perhaps the hint mechanism is pegged to the difficulty level? Anyway, find another program..Version: 0

Good board presentation. Some enhancements are desirable.I like the clean, unambiguous two dimensional screeen. I haven't checked the strength of the engine, but I presume that it is adequate for average players. I would prefer a drag and drop playing mode, but can live with pecking the piece and its destination each time. I am seeking an app that allows you to set up a starting position with a FEN string or pasting a game-in-progress. The program should also allow the user to save a game in algebraic notation or to save any position as a FEN string. If someone will verify that these features are inherent in the better tChess app, I will buy it in a heartbeat. Otherwise, I am unwilling to spend more than a buck on a pig in a poke..Version: 0

OkBut... not great. The interface is good but the level of play from the computer is way too easy. I'm an average player and I beat it on its highest level straight away. It would be a great light chess app if the difficulty was at least a little challenging. I'm not asking for pro level here..Version: 0

One of the better chess matches on iPhone. The only glitch is that the computer makes the match a draw in four moves if it’s in trouble. But there is no way to make it a draw if you are out of options. So it does cheat a bit in favor of itself. But it’s a really fun game..Version: 1.8.4

Constant crashes. Doesn't work on Game CenterReal shame. Should have avoided. App has not been updated for a year and does not work! Crashes every few seconds when trying to play via Game Center. Please fix as it could be great..Version: 1.8.3

Does the jobNothing astounding, but does what it says on the tin for a great price. Reccomended..Version: 0

Nicely Presented, an interesting programVery stable application, no crashes or glitches. The user interface is crystal clear, and attractive. I am not a club player, unrated in fact, but I thought that the playing strength would have been much stronger. I played all levels and won all easily. Here is my level 3 game 1. e4. e5 2. Nc3. Bc5 3. Bc4. d6 4. d3. Nc6 5. Qf3. Bd7 6. Qxf7# Level 5 was more challenging and I was pleased to see it resign rather than play a drawn out lost position. It did play a human syle that I particularly liked at this level. So I should have bought the "pro" version, my mistake, but this version would easily suit a chess newcomer or casual player. I would suggest that a few more levels be added to improve its tactics & stratagy understanding, without encroaching on the sales of it's considerably more expensive & clever sibling. Enjoy the game..Version: 0

TrashThis game is garbage, the rating system makes no sense you can lose ten points are 600 points in one loss. The computer sometimes will not let you capture its pawn after moving two spaces on its first move. Playing live, opponents will ask for take-backs and if you refuse they stop playing it should not even be a option in the menu.Version: 1.9.3

I like it. Mostly.I'm a very low level player so I hesitated about getting a chess game. But I am enjoying this I started out I. The default level three which killed me competely. So I set the difficulty to level one. That's very tolerant of mistakes and plays a game I can easily win. Nice but now I have my confidence up I'm getting into level 2. More challenging but soon time to move on. Two thongs which stopped a higher rating 1 I'd really like to see pieces which have been captured. 2 the keyboard is a bit hard to hit in the right place. Something like the iPhone keyboard which shows an expanded view before you commit to a move would be really helpful..Version: 0

Beautiful, but minor programming issues create serious frustration.I just purchased this game, and have to say I was truly astounded. The board itself is extremely simple, yet still manages to pull off a sense of beauty and regality that is hard to come by in most chess games for portable mediums. The graphics are crisp and clear, and there are a multitude of options for you to customize your game experience. My only major qualm is that, twice now, the computer has pulled off miraculous moves where it passes me with a pawn, lands in a different space than my pawn, and still manages somehow to capture my pawn. This is extremely frustating as I play chess competetively and cannot fully act out strategies if the game is not cooperating and playing by the rules. DEV: Something needs to be fixed about this, as it is a massive drawback of the purchase. Please update the product with a fix! Thank you..Version: 0
