I am a complete novice, but by backing up the game moves, I can see exactly what strategy the computer used to get me into trouble. The app lets me go back and change a move to try to engage in better (hard to get any worse) planning and moves. I love the "hint" feature. After two weeks at the lowest level, I can usually guess what the hint will be! Very rewarding technique. There aren't any serious bugs from what I've seen so far, the game plays well, and the list of options is pretty cool as well. I've read in other reviews of this app that the computer is too easy to beat. I'm guessing these reviews are from players who are much more serious about the game than I. ✓ Nice chess app.This is a nice chess app. My five year old son loves playing it. However, I would like to see an option to hide the "hint", "undo" and "redo" buttons. It makes it easy - especially for my son to cheat. I want him to learn. So Tom if you read this, please consider this simple feature request. Also, the game can play different difficulty ratings but there is no explanation as to what the ratings mean, what the range is (500 to something), etc... It's also unclear what the difference is between New Game and New Rated Game when in the preferences you can already set the rating. ✓ Great app!!!T Chess Lite is not so "Lite"! I was looking for a chess game I could use on my iPhone and iPad and this one really delivers. The interface is clean and elegant. The computer AI is not very challenging at 800 (the default) but it's easy to increase the level. I am not a chess expert but I can't beat level 1000 without taking moves back. ✓ Great Chess AppThis Chess App is stable, simple, and has a great range of chess levels. My 4 year old is learning how the pieces move (the feature to show move options for a piece you select is great), my 6 year old is claiming his first victories at Level 2 (great motivation), and Level 4 is finding many different ways to beat me. I have a lot to learn, and I am so happy to have found this app to help me do just that ... and make my purchasing this expensive piece of equipment all the more worthwhile. As a casual player the difficulty is good and the price is reasonable - Especially considering the price of other apps these days. I do wish it had the ability to setup a gameboard or be able to play a game minus a piece, ie: without a queen, but for $1 it's all good. In fact, the author should consider changing the name from "lite" to "casual" or something because normally "lite" apps seem to be nothing more than essential feature missing adverts for an over priced "full" version. Sure, this app is simple and its features are minimal but it allows me to play a game of chess and - critically - it does so without any real anoyances or reminders that I didn't fork out for the "full" version. I like how you can take back moves, beautiful graphics, (the screenshot of the black and blue is all you get) and how it saves the games when you exit. On the default level 3 (of 5) difficulty though I got a checkmate on the first game in about 10 minutes. I did raise the difficulty and this is about what I was wanting. There are nice touches like describing the openings as they develop. The app also keeps track of a set of interesting statistics based on your games. The only gripe I might have would be the difficulty levels. It's too early to say as I've only had the game a couple days but I'm an average player at best and absolutely crushing the computer at Level 3. With only 5 levels of difficulty, I wonder whether the game won't be difficult enough for really good players looking for a challenge. ✓ Good ButI like the app. There are a few areas where I believe there can be some improvement (1) the computer plays the same response to any particular opening I use and that becomes a bit predictable (2) I think it should be made more challenging. At the moment the ratings go to 1200 and I am there. Why not take it to 2400 more in alignment with international rating systems? (3) some daily chess puzzles might be a nice addition but not necessary (4) being able to save your game for reference later I believe to be important Other than these it’s a very good app.Version: 1.8.6

✓ Great appI've tried a lot of Chess apps, as well as full-on computer Chess games, and this is the one I like best. Why? Because it does an incredibly good job of pairing you against the AI. It's the only game I've tried that actually has a gradual transition from beginner to advanced levels. No more breezing effortlessly through the beginning only to slam into an insurmountably difficult opponent after a few games. As you get better, the AI does too - always a challenge, but (and this is the important bit) always beatable. I couldn't recommend this more. My only "gripe": I'd like to be able to set up positions to do chess puzzles. I know it's included in the full version, but I'm not ready for the advanced features/stronger AI of that one just yet. Given that the lite version isn't a free trial, I think it's justified to include it here too..Version: 1.8.3

✓ Great Chess AppI love this chess app. It's the best one available if you're not looking to spend a lot of money for some casual chess. I'm not the greatest player, and I can beat the computer on levels 1,2 and sometimes 3, but levels 4 and 5 are beyond me. This gives me lots of flexibility in the type of game that I want, whether it's an easy win or a true challenge. I also use this app a lot to play against friends, passing it back and forth. Be careful trying to play head to head with the phone between you though, you'll find that when you're the upside down player, the iphone thinks your touching the screen above where you thought you were touching it, but you can get used to it hahaha..Version: 0
