First Words Sampler for Negative User Reviews

Letters don't moveUnfortunately the letters are not responsive enough when I try to move them to the right position. Very frustrating. Back toy the drawing board Mr. Developer..Version: 4.3

No challengeThe game was fun at start than you realize they give you the answer even tho you turn hints “off.”.Version: 8.1

OkSeems to be fun for an early 4 yr old. The animations keep their attention and the spoken letters are a big plus. My only suggestion is to have it so that if the letters are placed in the tray area in the correct order that they get an animation. If the letters do not go into the tray in the correct order, then the word is spoken but no nifty animation. That way it would hopefully prompt kids to "spell" out the words and not just slide them into the tray in random order..Version: 0

Phonics pleaseI like the idea of this app, but English children are taught the phonics of the letters and this totally confuses them. I will have to delete it because it is teaching my child the incorrect way of learning his letters. Make a phonics version and I think lots of people will be happier..Version: 4.4

Needs phoneticsKids like it. Good for teaching sight words, but I wish there was an option to hear letter sounds rather than names. We use a phonics approach and it would be nice to have words sounded out..Version: 0

BugsI bought this app for my four-year old, and I used it a couple times on my iPad, and then after 4 or 5 uses it would close and go back to the main screen immediately. Very annoying. It was great until it had an annoying bug..Version: 4.0

Quite good but a improvement neededThis could have one improvement and that is when selecting letters make it so try can only be selected in order the word is spelt.Version: 4.4

OkIt's ok but I Want it in British english.Version: 4.4

Could we have it in English please? This is a really good program with options for French and Spanish but for the love of god could you please do an option for English - English. Most people in the states have no idea just how annoying the insipid generic US* accent is and for this reason I will only be using this app. for my daughter's French. * before this sounds like a rant I would like to point out that several US accents are truly wonderful. I once knew a girl from Virginia and simply listening to her read the telephone directory would have been a pleasure..Version: 4.4

Do not confuse your childThis is completely different to how I teach phonics to children. I'm a teacher and this goes against everything we are told how to teach phonics to children. It's not phonetic at all. It uses the letter names and not the sounds, it should be mainly the other way round. Please change your app..Version: 4.4

Reads letter name not sound.Simple error with the design. They read out the letter name instead of the 'sound'. Please fix..Version: 4.4

Autistic Daughter Loves ThisMy daughter is three and autistic and she loves this application. It a fabulous spelling application. There weren't quite enough words for her (she got bored) in the free version so I upgraded almost immediately to the deluxe version because she liked it so well. After only a few times using it, she can now breeze through with ease as she moves the letters to their corresponding place in the word. I also like that the app immediately says the letter when the child touches it instead of waiting until it's been placed. After all the letters have been placed, it reads the letters aloud and says the word. My daughter loves it because it's easy for her to control and she's begun learning her letters with ease..Version: 4.0

Not phonics confusingThe principal behind this app is great but not good for children in uk schools as it not in phonics..Version: 0

Not PhonicsMy toddler loves this game. But I won't be purchasing the full version because: - Phonics is not an option making it confusing for school. - There is no UK English option. - Most importantly the full version is VERY overpriced at about double what I am prepared to pay..Version: 4.4

Awesome appBut..... I bought the full version but it wouldn't update it......Version: 4.0

OkNot bad. You can change settings to get phonic of letters but not many words and AMERICAN which isn't ideal for children..Version: 4.4

GlitchLiked the settings to use English phonics etc but as soon as we wanted to play, it just closed App. Disappointing. Have deleted it now..Version: 8.2

MummakGreat help we have special needs kids it makes learning fun..Version: 4.1

Rubbish doesn't use phonic sounds at allConfuses children.Version: 4.4

Good and badGreat idea poor execution. Should have been phonetic as this is how children learn how to spell!!.Version: 0

Sorry...But not a very good app... Children do not learn the letter names until after they know the letter sounds confidently... This app may help with spellings but not with sounds....Version: 7.0

Dad with toddler. In free version. You only get few words. So just waste of downloading time..Version: 0

Not phonics!I have to agree with a number of other reviewers, phonics would be a good choice. My little girl likes this app but I am going to choose another in favour of something phonics based..Version: 2.0.1

Love it BUT KEEPS CRASHING !I love this and my kids love it but it keeps freezing/crashing and won't load. This will be the third time I've deleted and installed. Want to buy the full version but I'm afraid of the same issue, and for a 5$ app that would really bite!.Version: 0

Not phonics'See aye tee does not spell cat. Reverses the sensible approach of phonics learning. Do not confuse your children,.Version: 0

Not goodDoes not use phonics. Uses letter names, so useless for teaching kids to read..Version: 7.1

Sadly pretty terrible...Pretty terrible I'm afraid - it doesn't teach children to read because it uses the letter names, NOT the letter sounds, so it's not phonetic and therefore the child cannot link the sounds together to create a word. Sad.Version: 7.0

Confusing for kidsAs said by others the letters are not pronounced the way children are taught in school when they learn to read. You are better off not teaching your child letters than doing it this way as they will be very confused at school.Version: 4.4

It's okAs a teacher I wouldn't be able to use it as it uses the letter names rather than sounds which is not how children should be initially learning. It would have been PERFECT if it was using sounds.Version: 4.4

Non PhonicGreat spelling app but doesn't use phonics uses alphabet..Version: 4.4

Early childhood educator:Missed opportunity: this will be a great app when you replace the letter names with proper letter sounds. For now I don’t recommend it but it has potential!.Version: 7.1.2

Wish it Made Letter SoundsThis app is good on a lot of levels. It has a large variety of words and kids have fun dragging the letters to the right place. I just wish the letters made their sounds instead of just saying their names when the kids touch the letter. That would go a long way in helping to teach early reading skills..Version: 4.4
