✓ Very Fit for PurposeGerman language was part of my secondary school education, but that ended six decades ago. I needed to compose a brief message to someone I did not know in Germany. I had remembered that, unlike English, German is a highly inflected language and I realised that it would be too easy to get things wrong. Where I found this app so very fit for my purpose was that it proved to be an excellent grammatical resource with its phrases and examples chosen to reflect shades of difference; far more valuable than those for my purpose was a very comprehensive treatment of the conjugation of verbs! Brilliant! My only regret was that there is, currently, no way to save words discovered into a sort of personal vocab or "favourites" list..Version: 5.3.25
✓ No need to lug a phrase bookThis app was the most useful thing I brought to Germany. It was very easy to use and use it I did. I used it at museums to translate the information cards. I used it at cafes to help me figure out what I was ordering. And I uses it to impress my German friends by speaking complete sentences. German verbs are very difficult and confusing. ✓ Awesome appMust-have app if you speak English and German (or are trying to learn). I love that all words from both languages are in one list so you don't need to specify which language you are translating from and to. I like the provided list of common phrases (awesome when you're traveling) and I like how the dictionary entries are cross-linked and clickable so it makes exploring related words a lot easier. I use this app a lot while trying to learn German by listening to German podcasts. One thing that I've noticed that is a bit annoying is that the sound volume of my podcast always drops when I open up the dictionary so sometimes I have to adjust the volume up and down but I'm sure that is an easy fix that will hopefully be done soon..Version: 6.2.71

Developers did a nice job adjusting for the different devices. iPad version uses full screen to display word list and complete translation, phrase and verbs. Looks great on my iPhone 5 too. The dictionary is offline so you don't need an internet connection like with all the translator apps I've tried. That's a must if you travel a lot to avoid roaming. ✓ Has replaced my dictionary!I started studying German last winter in prep for a trip to Germany this summer. My wife is an advanced student. We got the Ascendo German-English dictionary and installed it on both our ipad an ipod touch. This dictionary is so extensive and fast that we went on our trip without a dictionary or phrasebook. That worked really well. Everyday, before leaving our room for the day's adventures, we'd check to make sure we had our 2 essentials: the camera and the ipod with the dictionary on it. I'll probably never buy another pocket dictionary. My wife has a large full sized German-English dictionary - but the Ascendo program on the ipod is now her go-to dictionary. When we go to our weekly German conversation group meeting even long time German speakers like to refer to it. As a student, I also like the vast compilation of verb conjugations. Ascendo is also very fast to respond to a customer question or problem. On a Sunday, the program stopped responding on my ipad (original ipad). Ascendo replied the same day and advised me to simply delete the program and reload it and that solved the problem. The problem was not with the software. Overall, probably one of my most used apps and one of my favorites..Version: 5.3.25

✓ Great appThis version has eliminated a couple of annoying bugs. Currently, I know of one bug that occurs when several meanings are displayed in landscape view. The trick to solve this is to rotate to portrait view then back to landscape. It is an excellent app and very useful for reading documents. It helps one find conjugation of verbs which can be tricky. My wish list is expansion of the vocabulary including more alternative meanings and whether the verb is transitive or intransitive and completing all the genders of nouns. ✓ Excellent appMy favorite aspect of this app is that it will allow you to enter a conjugated form of a verb and it will then provide the infinitive. A standard dictionary doesn't have this feature. I also like the many examples it provides for a word so you can see the various ways a word is used. I do find it odd and a bit frustrating how few entries there are for German words that begin with the letter "z."
