Runmeter Running & Walking GPS for Negative User Reviews

Misleading on App StoreThis app only functions on Apple Watch with the paid version. $13.99 yearly. Deleting app due to misleading information..Version: 10.7.11

Useless with Apple WatchThis iPhone usability for this app is pretty good. I have always been used to heart rate training and was glad that an app with so many good features would allow me to train in this way by simply checking heart rate zones through the watch. I upgraded to the Elite version thinking this would work and it was pretty much a waste of money. The watch app crashes after around 30 seconds. Thankfully the iPhone app keeps on recording your workout. When you do finally get the watch app to work it takes so long to actually update your current heart rate that the watch times out and either the screen goes to sleep or the app crashes again. So much potential but in its current state it is not useable as advertised..Version: 10.5.4

Good on many waysThis app is great in that it’s very easy to use. However although it records distance and time perfectly fine the calculation of minutes per mile and fastest mile are completely wrong which is really disappointing.Version: 10.9.22

Where did Twitter go?I have been using the app for years and one of the features I liked was that I could share to Twitter. That seems to now be gone even though your description of the app still shows it as a feature. :( Otherwise, still a good app. Accurate and user-friendly. Only gave it a lower rating because the one specific feature I used it for has been removed..Version: 12.0.38

Adverts!! 😡I’ve used this App almost daily for about 4 years with no problems but today I’ve suddenly started getting adverts on it and my distance isn’t recording, I’d hate to delete it but If I can’t resolve these issues I will have to..Version: 10.7.11

Problems constantlyRunmeter is the most advanced running app. But if you do anything with your phone or watch other than Runmeter you’ll have some problems. If you like music on your runs, fahgetaboutit. It just doesn’t work as intended nor ever consistently. Simply put, I’ve been working with Runmeter for 6 years now. Two years ago I gave up exclusive use and stopped depending on my running mates to forward me their workouts for correction. It just never really worked. Since growing up and getting a Garmin device, I can at least use that and still use Runmeter to compare. I like that Elite will log weather data. But when your running app doesn’t do anything but the tertiary Wx logs, it isn’t really a “run meter” at all. I’d say 4 years of hard work to make this thing work is enough. If you just run and just use your phone to run Runmeter, *maybe* your mileage will vary. Good luck. You’ve been warned..Version: 10.7.6

Meh-support nonexistentUpdate: I have tried twice to contact support and the emails have bounced back. Very frustrating. It has a ton of features that it’s impossible to know them all and a bit complicated to figure out. One of the biggest features that I liked no longer works. It used to post to Facebook when I was on a run and then read me all the likes and comments during the run. This helped get me through half marathon training and my first race in 2017. Now, I’m 2019, I’m training again and it no longer works. Might have to go find some other app..Version: 10.8.2

CrapI bought this app to do training intervals Run 2 Walk 1. It tells you to start at the beginning, but then there is nothing else. You have to watch your phone for the entire run. Waste of money..Version: 10.6.4

Get seriousI've come from a garmin 305 I love the runmetre feedback via earpiece which beats trying to read a display on a watch. Runmetre gps tracking is fast and reliable. A few upgrades in features would make runmetre a serious alternative training tool for recreational runners. Such as: ability to set target paces, capability to preset workouts with intervals, fartlek and speed sessions. Also to buy a heart rate monitoring device that gives instant feedback would make runmetre a powerful piece of equip for runners who want more than just average pace time and distance..Version: 0

RunmeterBonjour à vous, L’application est vraiment amateur. Aucune intervalle à programmer, pas de résultat cardio. Application à repenser Pierre.Version: 11.0.5

Useless without voice cuesLacks many useful/essential features other free apps have. Don't waste a workout on this app. UI is lackluster too..Version: 10.7.3

Not a workout app, just a trackerSubscribed to this app because I thought I could do track and interval workouts with it. Ended up buying ismoothrun instead. One time purchase at half the annual cost of this one. Too bad I had already paid for this one. This app does not offer interval/lap recordings and does not work with watch alone without phone. I learned it does not allow you to create an interval workout so no ability to keep track of intervals/ laps. For example, if you do 8 x 400m on the track, no separate stats. You need your phone, does not work on Apple Watch alone. ismoothrun claims to handle both as a one time purchase. We’ll see but looks promising..Version: 10.9.9

Good in partsI would find this App to be absolutely brilliant if it did everything it can do utterly consistently and reliably. However, it takes so long to load and is so prone to unexpected interruptions that I do feel it is not as robust as it could be. It's very frustrating to realise that you've just completed at least another mile and the announcement you were expecting hasn't happened. What do you do? If you switch the iPhone back on you risk stopping the App if it was still running, but if you don't look at the screen, you have no idea what's going on. I had hoped this would replace my Garmin, but sadly, I don't think it will..Version: 0

Confusing interface, keep it simple!I appreciate the attempt to pack millions of features into an app, but it has to be the most confusing user interface I’ve ever seen in an app. The free version doesn’t let you do much at all, but all the paid features are there anyways waiting to let you click on a nag screen. If I’m frustrated enough to throw the phone at passing road signs while testing the free version, I’m sure as heck not going to dive deeper and pay for a premium version. Sorry, I’m deleting it and moving to something else..Version: 12.0.41

Run meterWorks great, keeps track of everything. It was connected to face book so when you are running and someone sees you on Facebook, they could make a comment and you could hear the comment while you were running and your friends could see where you were on the run. That doesn’t work anymore. Not sure how to get around it. Probably for safety reasons, but that goes both ways..Version: 10.8.8

My app was deleted!!The latest update did no run successfully and I don't have the app anymore! How do I recover my data??.Version: 10.5.2

Downgraded to 1 starI still love this app on the iPhone for the customizations but hate that it’s still not stand alone on the watch. It also, for whatever reason, has a problem with consistency on connectivity with the iPhone. I have my iPhone in my arm band on my left side and the watch on my right wrist and I get the no connectivity symbol often when running. Sometimes it just stops working completely with the app. Got to get with the program on stand alone with the watch. Until then I’m switching to Runkeeper who actually has a stand alone app for the watch. Also, the notifications on the Apple Watch don’t work. It doesn’t even announce start or stop but the have them there available. Stupid. Cancelled my subscription..Version: 10.9.18

InaccurateThe same course can be +- 5% discrepancy in distance which over a 4 mile run is pretty poor as it’s messes up your pace figures. End up having to edit the figures for each run. And the verbal updates are hugely inaccurate, you’re 2 minutes ahead of best then half a mile later you’re behind median. Nice idea but it really doesn’t work..Version: 11.0.4

Flakey with iwatchYou will have to have some paitence to make it work with iwatch. There are sequence of operation issues. I had to uninstall three times before I got it to work and not crash my watch I have been using elite for over a year now. I have had my Iwatch replaced three times for various issues such as failed touch screen. If you want an accurate heart rate monitor look somewhere else. If you want something that every once in awhile tells you An accurate heart rate after pushing a bunch of buttons and resetting things for the first couple of miles , then this is your device!.Version: 10.7.3

Best run tracking app, but...The latest update broke kilojoule calculation.Version: 5.0.3

Best running appThis used to be a great app but it now can’t work out distances and pace. It had been constantly out for several months - first it recorded quicker than I was and now slower. The k time is well out. This is based on recorded parkrun 5k and comparing to Apple times. I’m using an Apple Watch 3 and an iPhone X. Used this for four years but it’s time to change..Version: 10.7.12

Worked well until updateI've been using this app for a few years, never had a problem with it. Since one of the recent updates, the app stops working after pausing, making this app unreliable. Imagine you're in the middle of a workout, or competition, and you pause it for some reason, and it won't restart. You have to finish it where you are, reset it, and restart it. This is unacceptable for continuity..Version: 10.7.6

Changed my review 👎🏽This used to be a 5 star review from me. My go to running app. These guys just don't get it anymore. Apple Watch support but you still have to bring the phone?!? Talk about a disconnect with your user base. Not only that, these guys have about zero customer support. I'm so sad I've moved on from this once great app. Just take a look at more recent reviews than the overall rating. Much more disappointment than in the earlier years. Update: Upped it to two stars ⭐️⭐️ The developer mentioned importing my info from the Apple Watch. Indeed you can, but you can only access that feature through a paywall, where other running apps just include this from your initial download. I did in fact pay to see if it works well and it does. I just wish I can use this app on my watch without my phone. If the developers can at least give us an update on the app and if they plan on working on a standalone app for the watch or even if it’s not in the cards..Version: 10.9.19

Lots of potentialFirst, they get 5 stars for support. I couldn’t get my Polar heart rate strap to work and I emailed them. Got a reply in less than 30 minutes, on a weekend, with a fix that worked. Pair it to the phone, not the watch. Unfortunately the heart rate does not update very often on the watch app. It seems to only work when the phone is unlocked. Beyond that, the app has tons of potential. Great stats for running and walking. However, the interface really needs some help. All the right info is there, but it’s not pleasant to look at or use. On the watch screens you have to scroll to see all the info. I also enjoyed the running plans, the interval training features, and the emailing of runs to let others know where I am. If the heart rate screen worked better on the watch I maybe would have paid the yearly fee. If it had that plus a better interface, it would be easy to pay for it. I’ll check back later to see how it develops..Version: 10.9.26

Location locationNo thank you. You do not NEED to know where I am. Is it so hard to be able to use a running app without location services on? I was so excited too. To finally find an app that lets me set my own running plan. Deleting..Version: 10.9.18

Not bad.....This is okay and just about worth it for the diary and having the announcements is really helpful. However, the graphs have never really worked for me - maybe I'm not using it right? But the biggest problem is the inconsistency - I do the same run home from work three times a week and it says I've travelled a different distance every time! It's also a bit annoying when you're really trying hard and you know you're quicker than normal but because the GPS has lost you or at some point the little voice tells you - behind best 56.......GRRR.Version: 0

No privacy, no securityThe app itself seems to be good but I can't accept those privacy terms and you needs to copy paste a link from terms and conditions to see them. Liar! On the app preview, there is a image with "secure and private" but in practice "user content" of yours is send not encrypted to and from the app server... C'Mon! It's 2016 at least encrypt your communication it's FREE now..Version: 10.5.6

Not that GoodAlthough it's great idea this app is not reliable enough to use to structure your training program. I found it just stops recording whilst doing my runs. Disappointed yes..Version: 10.3.7

Watch app a complete dud- avoid at all costsI happily used this app on my iPhone but stopped when I bought an Apple Watch as the watch app could not record without the phone being nearby. Now it can be used as a stand alone I paid for an annual subscription mainly because I wanted to track my pace. During my first walk with it I was apparently doing sub four minute miles. Turning off the auto pause function today I ran with a group who were using Strava or Garmins. Again completely nonsensical results compared with the group. The app seems to massively over measure stationary time and so increase your apparent pace. Best advice for Apple Watch- stick to Strava!!.Version: 12.0.8

App is the same as all the others,This app is the same as all the other apps ... Sign in with email etc and keep sending you crap Too many advertisements!.Version: 10.4.8

Should you buy? It depends ...It is difficult to rate this app. I bought it due to the shameful lack of run apps that have a lap feature. In my excitement to purchase I neglected to see in the reviews - not in the description- that to use the Apple Watch you need to carry your phone. I bought the Apple Watch so I could run without a phone. So, if you are like me, this will be massively frustrating. (I’ve only used the app once because of this.) Lots of cool screens - if you can read them. The one time I was able to use the app I found it difficult to read all but one of the screens while in motion. No doubt they are slick to look at when you are sitting on your couch. Good luck trying to see data at a glance. This review does not cover any of the other notable features (e.g., plans) because I truly only wanted a GPS app with a lap feature I could use on my Apple Watch - again, without carrying my phone. I’ll keep looking for it..Version: 10.9.25

Useless without Elite UpgradeI've been a runmeter user since 2013 or earlier. I upgraded to Elite in 2014 when it was a reasonable $ 4.99. Then, in 2017 I STILL upgraded to Elite when the priced doubled to $9.99. It's actually a great app, but without the Elite upgrade, it's pretty useless (to me, anyway). Here's why. I went for my first outside run in 2018 and didn't notice my Elite upgrade expired last week. I spent about 20 minutes trying to figure out what was wrong with my heart rate chest strap. It turns out you need ELITE to measure your heart rate. You're kidding right..? Nope. How about just measure your steps..? Still need Elite. I didn't take the time to detail everything you lose without ELITE but for me, if a running app can't track my heart rate or at least steps, I'll just switch back to my fitness band or use a HR watch with my chest strap..Version: 10.7.6

To Many ads!Purchase this aps 4 year ago! Each update since removed features and added ads! If I want the features back! I need to pay... This is how you treat your longterm customer?.Version: 10.6.2

Gorgeous and detailed, HR tracking utterly failedJust took a test run with my Apple Watch and came home to find a flat line heart rate graph. I've used the Series 2 and now Series 3 watch for the past few years, with over a dozen apps, and never had a problem with reliable heart rate data so I'm confident it wasn't user error wearing the Watch wrong. I also can't find a support email address on the developer's website. If you're not using this app with an Apple Watch it may be a good pick. You'll have to pay for Elite if you want to get your data out of Runmeter's silo, but the annual subscription is reasonably priced. The customization is great, far deeper than anything else I have used recently. Having cadence info is something a lot of apps skip..Version: 10.7.11

Very functional, but has problems with heart rateThe app works well, shares well to Strava with additional data such as cadence and outdoor temperature. The multiple custom pages for the watch are great too, much more informative and useful than the official Strava watch app. The problem I'm having is that the all fails to track my gear rate, which happens almost every time. It complains that it's unable to track heart rate once I start my workout, which is massively unhelpful at that point and states it's unable to connect to Health so I have to continuously approve the Health connection, for it to often fail next time anyway. Furthermore the watch app occasionally fails to maintain a session so I have to open it from the apps screen which is a bit of a pain whilst running to monitor my progress. As a side-note, a simple launcher complication to open to app from the watch face would be handy. I contemplated a 1* because the app is preventing me from being able to track my cardio fitness, but the reliability otherwise is good..Version: 10.6.9

Watch App That Wont Work With Out The Phone Along For The Ride.I had high hopes for this App as I have used a version of it various times through the years. That being said I got this App and upgraded to the elite. I thought it was going to be great until I went on my first run and was dumbfounded as to why my stats would not appear on my watch. I then quickly realized that like before in the past you had to find some way to lug your phone around with you to make this App work. Needless to say I was very disappointed. What is the point of making this App for the Apple Watch if it can't work independently??? Can the developers please get on untethering this App because it has some super legit features I just don't want to carry my phone..Version: 10.7.3

Inaccurate to a faultI don’t know why no one else has mentioned this yet, but the pace measurements are all over the map (literally and figuratively) in this app. I’ve been using this for a while and I’ve observed the following behaviors on a number of occasions: 1. It often stalls out and stops registering any change in time or distance 2. When it is working it often reports inaccurate information. For example, on a slight downgrade of a hill it reported that I was running a 5:30 pace, then on an equally slight upgrade it reported I was running a 10:00 pace. My pace was actually about the same on both hills. I’m not that fast, and I’m not that slow. At one point during my run it reported that my pace was 0:00 for about a quarter of a mile, at which point I turned it off and uninstalled it..Version: 10.7.9

Ripped OffI bought this application back a while ago when it was Pro, on the blurb it said all pro users are entitled to a free upgrade, i went to update settings, and when i hit the "register Pro" version, it asked me for an amount which i then got charged again, so theoretically, it means i've bought the program, not once, but twice.. be carefull when you submit as Pro Upgrade, you will get charged.. I hate this new apple in app purchase format that everyone is deploying now...Version: 9.1

Mr m Intermittent trainer mainly indoorsCan’t get indoor training data on bike or running machine but great for outdoor road running, had app a long time!.Version: 12.0.42

Mileage is offI have used and loved this app for YEARS and recently, my mileage is off for every run. The shorter run, I don’t really notice. For my recent half, it was over by 1/2 mile. It then impacts your average pace that it’s telling you in your ear which for this same race, it was off by 30 seconds - which is a lot. Today I ran 6.5 miles and again, it was off. So disappointing Bc it’s been my go to running app for so long :( I only gave it 3 stars bc of how long I’ve been using it..Version: 10.7.6

The free version is poor compared to othersReally most of the “elite” features should be in the free offering..Version: 10.5.3

If you're looking for a watch app, look elsewhereNowhere in the description does this app explain that it is so severely restricted that you can't test even the most basic functions. Until you purchase the full app, you get nag screens for nearly all of the icons you touch. If you attempt to open the app on your watch, it just tells you to go to your phone. With so many fitness apps in the market, I'm not willing to spend ten bucks to find out what the issues are for each. It's too bad, this looked promising. Be honest in your description or give a real test capability!.Version: 10.8.5

Good app, but persistent issue with MusicI’ve used the app for years, and while I really enjoy it, it seems to have a persistent issue with the iphone music app. The Runmeter will usually stop working correctly if one starts fiddling around with the music app during a run. I have, in the past, notified the developer of the issue. They did respond quickly and request data from my phone to help them identify the issue. The did acknowledge an issue after reviewing that data. However, they requested further data/access from my phone that I was not comfortable sharing, nor did I have the incentive to get into a project with them. So the problem persists. Having said that, everything else about Runmeter is pretty good.Version: 10.7.3

Runner enthusiastTerrible interface. For example, the Start button is designed narrowly such that when you have your phone on an armband and you’re outside in the sun, it’s very hard to see and tap on the Start button. What a stupid design - the other running apps have their Start button much larger. Also, the menus and functions are not very intuitive, the overall user experience is not good..Version: 12.0.29

Ne marche pas avec Apple WatchNe fonctionne pas avec la montre. Argent gaspillé 😡.Version: 10.9.9

Loads of data but confusing interfaceI've used it for many months now and used several other apps like it. This app has more data collection and reporting than any other app, which is why I prefer it for now. However, the interface is confusing with Application-Level Settings and Activity-Level settings. For instance, the Announcements are controlled at an Application-level, instead of Activity-Level, e.g. I need OFF for cycling and ON for running. Since I swap activities up to twice daily, I always need to fumble around with several settings before I start my activity. Give me Activity-level control for most/all settings and you would earn another star from me..Version: 8.1.2

No standalone AppleWatch useYou have to have your iPhone with you which is pretty annoying. Standalone with Apple Watch 4 would be better.Version: 10.8

Been using it for 7 years and still loving it.As a data junkie, Runmeter let’s me analyze individual runs as well as trends over time. It’s nice that the Watch app has been untethered from the iPhone but since I don’t have a Apple Watch with a cell connection, I always take my phone with me anyways so my wife can track where I am. Well worth the upgrade cost to the pro version..Version: 12.0.6

Doesn't workIf you don't have your phone with you I have found that this app doesn't work. Mine paused today and wouldn't restart and i have the series 3 watch with cellular. So far it's a waste of money..Version: 10.7.7

Outdated watch optionsHave used all three apps for over 6 years so have enjoyed what they offer. I have never minded the yearly fee for the three apps. I figure a fee gets you continued development. That said hear we are with the Apple Watch 4 coming in a week and still no stand alone support for the watch. As phones have gotten bigger I have been wanting to leave it home. At this point if they do not announce stand alone support at least coming by December I will spend December testing other apps and move on for the first time in over 6 years..Version: 10.7.12
