Ratio for Negative User Reviews

Great start... Ruhlman, we expect the best!I agree with much of everyones opinions on the addition of your own ration, the open default screen (ratio vs calculator) for recipes. The ability to back calculate final quantity of output in calculator. I just expected much more from Michael Ruhlman after being such a big fan and follower. Definitely the best cooking info app outthere, put very over priced for the content of the application. Love the book! Dissatisfied with the application. : /.Version: 0

Good concept, Lazy implementationThe concept behind ratio is good. The implementation...no. An app that isn't backward compatible with previous OS versions or other platforms (iPad) is simply shoddy work, something you'd expect from a novice building a free app, not a paid-for app that Michael Ruhlman is willing to attach his name to..Version: 0

Not badGreat for ratios and conversion but no way to save recipes..Version: 2.0.7

A good start but needs workThis is a good idea and would be very useful with a few additions. I would like to have a central place to keep notes, the ability to post my own ratios, and most of all the calculator should let you back calculate the amount of ingredients from entering a desired final product volume. I read elsewhere that a revision is ready, but that was weeks ago and here we are with all of these weaknesses uncorrected. Disappointing.Version: 0

Buy the book...I loaned my book to someone and it disappeared and I thought this app might be a decent substitute. I couldn't recall the oven temp i wanted for a bread recipe and figured it would be in the app, WRONG. The ratios are fine from what I saw and remember from the book. However, relevant details are missing like oven temps. As I went through the app some more I found it to be disappointing, nothing compared to the book. It is only good for the actual ratio. There are no supplementary recipes, which the book has and I thought might be here. Connectivity to the blog is still non-functioning and none of the suggestions from previous comments were taken. Save your money, buy the book!.Version: 1.0.4

Great concept, would love some more functionalityI love the idea of ratios in cooking and knowing the proper ratio for what you're making is empowering. What would make this app even better is the ability to enter your own ratios for types of recipes that are not included with the app. I'm constantly tweaking my ratios in my own recipes and it would great to be able to use this tool to make subtle adjustments without having to bust out the calculator and a piece of paper..Version: 1.0.4

Brilliant, and rubbish! This is an excellent idea and works but there are only a few recipes\ratios, and this makes me resent paying the princely sum of three quid. For example what about these ratios: chicken liver pâté-butter, Yorkshire pudding batter, the various gnocchi. More information please..Version: 1.0.4

Would be better if updated for iPadI like what Michael Ruhlman does, but a little surprised that the last update was Sept 2010 and that he has not yet built in an upgrade for iPad users. I hope existing Ratio users will be able to upgrade when an iPad version is available..Version: 1.0.4

BuggyThis is a good app but crashes all the time. Needs an update to fix this..Version: 0

Can't add own recipesOn the website it says the app has: “an easy way to store your own recipes” all you can do is edit the quantities of a premade recipe and add notes. this, in my opinion is not my “own” recipe. it's just more or less of their recipe. not pleased!.Version: 0

AverageBad UI. Not all ratio's are correct which is annoying. Purchased it as a quick reference due to my career as a chef. Highly disappointed..Version: 2.0.2

Great start, needs moreA great start and a great interface, but needs far more information to justify its price tag. At the moment, you would be better off searching for a few good ratios and writing them down somewhere in your kitchen and getting a far more packed recipe app for less money. Hopefully this is just the beginning, and we will see more information added as time goes on..Version: 0

Needing some improvements. PLEASE!This app has so much potential to be great. First off, tell me the number of eggs I need, not the measurement of egg. Second, I want to put in how many servings of something I want for an estimate of how much I should make. Third, please change the cups measurements so that it isn't in decimals. Change these and you are well on your way to a five star app. Until then, not worth the $4.99 because it's just too difficult to use..Version: 0

Very little here hereFive dollars? You could fit the information this app contains on a double sided, letter sized sheet of paper with 12 point type. I like the concept and it has its uses. But for $5 I'd like to see how these ratios adapt to different dietary requirements, or something a little more encyclopedic in its scope. For one thing, it's extremely French classical in its viewpoint. Wish I'd read the reviews prior to purchasing..Version: 2.0.2

Don't worth for your moneyI'm doing culinary art right now. I thought this app have tons of important ratios. However, it contains too little ratios for an app, which costs me 4.99$. I recommend to buy a proper cooking book instead. There are more ratios than this little app. Don't buy it. Waste of your value money..Version: 1.0.4

Ok, but tons of potential. It's an ok app as is, but it would be one of the most used apps on my phone if I could add my own recipes. The "my recipes" tab is currently useless. If I wanted to use the same recipe from Ruhlman's book over and over I'd just write it down, not look it up. Now if I could save my own recipes and use this app to rapidly scale the proportions up and down, THAT would be a 5 star app. Please and thank you..Version: 0

Huge LimitationsVreaks in iOS4 Can't edit ratios, add your own and the app doesn't have a great deal of ratios for the price. Pizza dough not mentioned at all (an email revealed it to be identical to bread but no in-app indication) A very poor effort for the price..Version: 0

Can't really customizeThe first thing I wanted to do was to make a ratio for coffee, but "coffee" isn't an ingredient and you can't add custom ingredients. It also kept defaulting me to 20tbs and 12oz instead of 1tbs and 6oz like I kept attempting. Not sure what's going on here but I'm pretty bummed that I spent $6 on this app instead of a latte. ): Maybe the preset ratios will come in handy this weekend for cooking food rather than brewing joe..Version: 2.0.1

Not working on my iPod TouchWhy is this not working on my Touch? It loads fine, but any time I try to change the measure (ounces to grams, or something similar) the app quits and takes me back home. I've sent a note to the support email but no response so far today. I'm bummed and I sincerely hope that there is a fix. I will happily post another review if and when I get this running properly..Version: 0

Recent update killed it(iPod 5th gen) Just updated this & now all of the categories are blank. I was about to use it to make bread, but saw the update & opted to do that first. Wish I hadn't..Version: 2.0.4

Decent but neglectedThis isn't a proper cookbook but for quick on the fly baking tips this app does nicely. Hasn't had a substantial update in ages, iPad version sorely absent. Haven't had any cooking disasters with any of the ratios, however when baking bread I've referred to proper recipe books. Have had fairly good results with on the fly pound cake, crepes, biscuits and a few others. Overall I'd recommend despite lack of updates and price..Version: 1.0.4

MuffinsI used it for making muffins but the fat to flour ratio is way too high. I cut it by 1/3 and it was still far too much butter. I am in love with the idea of this app more than the reality..Version: 1.0.4

Some good things, but needs refiningFirst of all, I love making bread. The ratio method, especially using weights and metric measurements using a digital scale, has certainly helped me perfect my recipes. So, the basic philosophy appears sound. I agree too with the author that adding ingredients by weight requires less cleanup since you simply "zero" the scales and just add until the scales display the correct quantity. The calculator is about the only real value in having this app. Good for increasing any recipe. i did not like the fact that updating my version 1 to 1.0.1 wiped out my saved recipes. Hopefully that does not happen again with future versions. Also, I cannot understand why the ratio graphs use different colours for ingredients from recipe to recipe. If you are using purple for fat, then be consistent–don't use it for sugar some times and fat another. Flour was represented in yellow for all but one recipe. So, a few refinements to consider..Version: 0

Keeps crashing.A good idea that could be improved with a bug fix and more ratios..Version: 0

The book is great, the app is lackingGiven the book, the sales pitch for the app and the possibilites the iPhone offers I'd expect more than this for AU$5.99! Hopefully they can finish this app off one day..Version: 0

Very buggy 1.0 releaseUnfortunately this release is very buggy. First of all, if you try to launch this app after launching another app then closing it quickly (say if you open another app by mistake), it will not start up. I've had to re-install it already three times. Second, it does not remember any changes to the Settings (which just set the default units (weight or volume) and default measures ("English" or metric)). It always goes back to the defaults, which are Weight and "English". I would say to wait for a bug fix release..Version: 0

Sugar measurement is wrong and Nonclosing Error windowIn the recipes where sugar is included in the ratio, it has 1 cup of sugar weighing 13.2 oz when it should weigh about 7 oz. I also had a problem in the About window when I tried to read blog entries. An error window popped up saying "Ratio can't connect to the internet. You need to be online to read the blog entries". I didn't really understand this since I had internet access on my phone, but the worse part is that the window kept popping up when I hit Ok. I couldn't access the rest of the app, I ended up deleting it from my phone and reinstalling it..Version: 1.0.4

No search functionHiya, I know it’s not a huge list to look through manually but how’s about a search function? Also, it would be ideal to have some ratios in here for cooking different kinds of rice, lentils, la la la..Version: 2.0.7
