The Atlantic Magazine for Positive User Reviews

An important source of newsI don’t always agree with the authors, and that’s great! It is as non-partisan as you can get these days..Version: 6.0.4

Great but...Please include a search function! Marvellous writing and features but a bit of a faff to search for favourite writers..Version: 6.1.1

The AtlanticIntriguing journalism.Version: 6.0.4

I love the Atlantic, and I hate its app doesn’t have searchI love everything about the Atlantic, including the brilliant writings you can find in its archives. But for that you need to search in a browser, then enter your credentials in the browser, and... you get it - the entire point of the Atlantic app vanishes. Pls bring in / build a good search function, we, your readers need it. 5 starts to the Atlantic; and 1 star to its app on a bad day, when the lack of search frustrates me terribly, and causes the type of experience that makes me close the app and move on..Version: 6.0.3

Beautiful app and fantastic content.I am so glad I subscribed to the Atlantic. Opening the app throughout the day is a pleasure..Version: 6.0.2

The Atlantic AppI’m a recent subscriber to The Atlantic — I had no idea of the high-quality writing and thoughtfulness of the reporters and editors — I have been so impressed, educated, and inspired. The Atlantic App has been the best part of the experience! I thought I was getting a monthly publication, but through the App, I am daily receiving a deeper understanding and reflection on my world — and the App presents it in such a personal way! The Atlantic and its App may be the most important action I have taken for my citizenship and ability to understand a complex and (hopefully) changing world. Thank you!.Version: 6.0.4

Good content with good intentionsVery good content with an attempt at sticking to the story and not just driving the narrative..Version: 6.0.4

Top notch journalismThough provoking in depth analysis of issues facing all of us in our daily lives..Version: 6.0.3

OutstandingIf this is the direction e-magazines are taking, all I can say is; Great News. Congratulations on an outstanding product!.Version: 2.0

An enticing shop windowThe Atlantic is the antidote for those who have become overcome with gloom about the current state of journalism. It presents variety, provocation, entertainment and intelligence..Version: 6.0.2

Great contentWorth the subscription cost.Version: 6.0.3

Superb appLovely reading experience..Version: 6.0.4

The AtlanticHighly reflective. Always well written. In-depth research. More than just a story. 👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼.Version: 6.0.3

Awesome app !!!It is worthy to download it grate article and also save option for offline read. Just need little improvement on loading new article. Overall grate app highly recommend it..Version: 3.8.0

Love the Atlantic, not the appMaybe it is user error and I just haven’t figured it out, but I find it very frustrating that there is not a search feature WITHIN the app. Often I want to look for a specific subject or article. Even when I click links within the app to other Atlantic articles, it send me to the web browser version, where I have to log in again. It is annoying to be taken out of the app to read articles in a browser..Version: 6.2.3

Canadians contentPlease offer more story lines that reflect Canada ..Version: 6.0.4

The only news I bother withSuch great writing..Version: 6.0.2

Top journalismAlways beautifully written the Atlantic gets to the nub and elegantly leaves the reader better informed. I love it!.Version: 6.0.3

ThanksThe Atlantic has been THE BEST resource during the COVID 19 pandemic For thoughtful pieces on the consequences of speech and actions by the powers that be, for great reporting on the risks of behavior and advice on how to deal with each phase of our reopening and for clear reporting of the facts, the data, of who is sick and investigation of why. It’s been a real haven from the craziness. My great thanks to the editors and writers for proving the need and importance of expertise, science and sense and for their intelligence in explaining all of these to the rest of us..Version: 6.0.4

Needs search functionI love The Atlantic, but this app needs an easily-accessible search function. I often click on articles in an email and have to read them in an internet browser because 1) I can’t search for the article in the app itself and 2) I can’t figure out a way to make the article open directly into the app. Either I’m missing something or the app needs more functionality. Otherwise, a good app with no bugs or crashes so far..Version: 6.1

Great experienceI almost didn’t download this app after becoming a subscriber because I assumed I would continue to read most articles on my laptop. I was wrong! I really enjoy the experience of using this app. The design is excellent and the Today screen always presents something I’m interested in, while the limit to 5 main stories keeps it from being overwhelming like most other news/media apps are. (You can of course access all stories elsewhere in the app.) To my own surprise, I’ve become a near daily user and recommend this app as the most pleasant way to access Atlantic articles..Version: 6.1.1

Great contentWell written and balanced articles.Version: 6.0.4

Rrefreshing journalism in a cesspool of media.Get the app and subscribe..Version: 6.0.4

Always Available! It’s the Atlantic on my phone. I really like the paper edition, well, I still like books!! But it is nice to have yhe Atlantic everywhere I go.! App is clear, Well Organized and downloads the articles, fast. ....& nice and readable on the screen..Version: 6.0.4

Atlantic AwesomeI look forward to reading the Atlantic every morning as I sip my first cup of tea.Version: 6.0.3

Ever Timely-Always RelevantThe Atlantic has not missed step— from a physical magazine to internet power house of news and ideas. There are many magazines that have come and gone over the years. However, this journal of ideas and news comes across as fresh and provocative. The rise of muckraking in the 19th century has an equivalent in the 21st century— The Atlantic is both a physical journal and an internet powerhouse that cuts through false news and fuzzy ideas of rumor and salacious lies. Bravo!.Version: 6.0.3

A go to source for information and commentaryI love the Atlantic. It's a trove of great writing on a wide variety of topics from the natural sciences to geopolitics and lots more. I always learn something reading it and the digital version is very easy to navigate. I think it's an "essential service" (with or without the pandemic)..Version: 6.0.3

Great Simple FormatI LOVE the format of the app; it’s so easy to read and not as overwhelming as a typical news website. Only suggestion I have is adding a section of your audm articles, as well as clearly labeling each article on the front end (before you click it to read it) if it has an audio option. The New Yorker has started doing something similar and I love that I can see which are audio. Sometimes I really prefer the audio ones over reading them and it’s much easier to navigate if they’re labeled more prominently and given their own section..Version: 7.2.2

High Quality app & articlesGreat reader app for the Atlantic.Version: 6.0.4

Subscriber for 40 years! For 36 years, I received the Atlantic paper magazine. My Grandmother had been James Fallows’ fifth grade teacher. She loved him so much, she bought an Atlantic subscription for me as a college undergrad. She paid for the renewal each Christmas until her death in 2013. The Atlantic has been my constant companion. I read each issue cover to cover. Amazing journalism, fiction, poetry, and humor. For the last 4 years, I’ve been an app subscriber and I’m pleased to say the Atlantic is getting even better. The writers are amazing. I subscribe to the emails and they alert me to things I might want to read. What led me to review today, was that I just finished the list of articles recommended by Tom Nichols about the war in Ukraine. They dramatically raised my understanding of the situation. Outstanding! I love the app, but have one small problem with it. I would love to see a search bar visible on the opening page of the app. I’m often searching for certain authors or want to easily access the article that I’ve been alerted to. There may be an easy way to search, but I haven’t found it. Keep up the good work!.Version: 6.1.2

Smooth app, excellent publication! As a UK subscriber of The Atlantic, I opted to use the digital version of the magazine. Whilst obviously focused on the US, it’s brilliantly written, full of insight, and for me presents a very clear and unvarnished view of the US, it’s politics and people. I’m sure it has detractors (probably seen as left wing/commie by some on the right). It also offers an interesting American view of the UK and other countries, which helps in understanding my place in the world... Oh, sorry...you meant review the app? Haha, yes sorry, i really like it. All good so far! 😁.Version: 6.0.3

Great magazine with no fluffThe Atlantic is the only paid subscription I’ve ever had. I like how their editorial is varied but not too expansive. Best $50 I ever spent.Version: 6.0.3

Love the redesignSo happy that the developers added dark mode support!! That was a feature I’ve long wanted so am really looking forward to reading more articles late at night in bed. The new art in the app is also beautiful and I like that the crossword is available to solve in mobile now. The today tab is a little confusing since it doesn’t clearly show what is an official article and what is just summarizing the latest news, but I’m guessing that will become more refined over time..Version: 6.0

Amazing app, needs searchThe app itself is beautiful. Reading stories on it is a breeze. And the stories are so consistently high quality; I subscribe to the New York Times, Washington Post, New Yorker, and more and the only rival to the Atlantic is the New Yorker — but I think the Atlantic beats it out for sheer quality. But I need to be able to search for stories, and I need to be able to access a story in my web browser that then lets me open it in the app. Right now it’s just a pretty place to browse the current popular stories. It could be so much more..Version: 6.1.1

Excellent independent and fair newsFound this online by accident but truly find it very refreshing and fair, unbiased news how refreshing !.Version: 6.0.4

Decent app and good journalismApp works nicely and isn’t overloaded with annoying features like some..Version: 7.2.6

Good but no substitute for the real deal.Probably intentional : being a business and whatnot..Version: 2.1

The Atlantic TodayThe best subjects & articles on today’s news ... Refreshing and Insightful!!.Version: 6.0.4

Great appI’m happy with the purchase.Version: 6.0.4

Comments sectionHi. I have had the pleasure of accessing the Atlantic Magazine app for a while now and it has generally been very good. Except - the last few days every article has the same "disqus" comments at the bottom that have nothing to do with the article I've just read. I don't know where else to complain about this so here we are. Other than that, a good app. Cheers..Version: 4.0

Great content / layout, some interface functionality lackingContent is great, I like the "today" section with a set of highlights as well as capacity to view by section, articles match the bold look of the print magazine. Also the crossword section is A+ and easy to find. App is generally good enough to justify a digital only subscription. Some UX issues that prompted me to leave a review: - Why is there not a search (or at the very least a "history" or "recently read") function??? I literally read an article yesterday, and when I tried to find it again today to share with a friend and was unable to do so. Very frustrating. - Needs better connection b/t app and browser links - it's strange that if i'm sent a story using a browser link, it will send me to the browser and tell me it's my last free article / time to subscribe, but won't give me any option to open the article in the app..Version: 6.1.2

You guys are great!I would not be able to survive this quarantine without your daily articles. Thank you!.Version: 6.0.3

Excellent writing, app could be betterI love the journalism of The Atlantic. I don’t love the app as much though. It forgot that I’m a subscriber when my subscription renewed, and my access to articles stopped. Restoring purchases failed so I had to delete the app and reinstall. I’m told by customer support this could happen each time my subscription is renewed, so this seems to be a bug that should be fixed. I agree with other reviews about the wasted space on the Latest tab, and the bafflingly huge greeting graphic on the Today tab. I also don’t understand why there are blank ad containers taking up so much (any, in fact) space on the Latest tab between article headers. I’m happy to pay for quality journalism, and I think the app user experience should match the high level achieved by the writing..Version: 7.2.1

WidgetIt would be great to have an iPhone/iPad widget, showing the latest stories..Version: 7.2.4

TGreat functionality. Unobtrusive advertising..Version: 2.2

Love the AtlanticThe Atlantic is a great app. Love using it. Easy to navigate..Version: 6.0.4

Terrific news app from The AtlanticThis is a very good app from The Atlantic. Everything is here: current news with reporting and editorials to help make sense of things plus access to the monthly magazine. Yes, it’s available through a subscription but in these trying times, supporting a news organization financially should be considered doing one’s civic duty. We need a free press more now than ever before and they need us to support them in their work. This is a great app from a great news organization and I am glad to support it..Version: 6.0.4

In a world gone mad...It is a great comfort to be able to turn to the Atlantic for some basic truth telling. I live in Canada and have basically stopped watching cable and network news and current affairs. Go Atlantic, eh🇨🇦..Version: 6.0.2

An important magazine for our timesI have found from reading articles in the Atlantic and other similar publications that The Atlantic is by far doing the best work and making the greatest contributions to our understanding of these unbelievable times. The level of journalistic quality is incredibly high. That's why I subscribed. I continue to look to The Atlantic for the facts. For truth. And for intelligent analysis that acts as a critically important guide to how to think and act in the current unprecedented atmosphere..Version: 6.0.4

Amazing app other than no search functionI love the depth and breadth of the content, but please make a search function? If it’s there already please make it more accessible. So frustrating having to use safari to search Atlantic articles.Version: 6.1.1

Returning SubscriberI was a subscriber through Google to which I could only get the magazine on the google news app which I thought was ridiculous. Switching over to the iPhone XR I downloaded the Atlantic and subscribed again. I don’t know what everyone is complaining about, the new layout is beautiful. I like the today section plus I get to hear the articles through the SoundCloud link that’s been put up on some articles. The dark mode is perfect. I let go of the New York Times because they hadn’t gone to dark mode yet. It’s just too bright. LA Times has and they have a great layout as well. Anyways great job Atlantic. You’re the app is great and you’ve got a subscriber for life..Version: 6.0.1

Great content, app could be improvedI highly enjoy the articles. The app is okay, but has some annoyances. 1) Sometimes when I open an article, it starts scrolled down about one page (iPhone 13 Pro, IOS 15), so I have to scroll up to the top to start reading. 2) On slow connections (2 bars), most of the text loads pretty quickly, but the first picture and chunk of text under the picture load together and can take 30 seconds or more, so I end up reading starting on paragraph two. Can you please load all the text first, then the images?.Version: 6.2.3

GreatIt’s great and always nice to stay in touch with such a relevant publication..Version: 6.0.2

The Atlantic appDear Sirs The Atlantic app is gorgeous. It is beautifully designed and wonderful to read and access Best Erryan.Version: 6.0.4

Mostly good updateI like the ability to adjust the font. I can't figure out how to get to back issues though! I have restored purchases but it doesn't seem to show me them..Version: 4.0

What is going on down there in the US?Thank you for your ongoing academic level insight. Canadians feel like cousins to the US, sharing some history and culture, while living in a sparser home where we have to consciously share for survival. Part of our identity is comparing our countries, seeing the emergence of social issues in parallel. I am saddened but hopeful for all of us..Version: 6.0.4

The AtlanticSuperb, concise, informative, challenging, thought provoking, understated, measured, intelligent and honest read.Version: 6.0.2

The app is good but could be betterI don’t know if there are any other ways to communicate with the app developers or not so I’m using this one. The quality of journalism in the Atlantic is absolutely superb yet the app has some areas for improvement. The feature I’d really like to see is the one the “Foreign Affairs” app has. When the article is a particularly long read, it often might take 2 or 3 sittings to fully finish it. I’d really like you to implement the feature that would reopen the app at the exactly same location on the page before I left it. The aforementioned app has it and I LOVE it and I’m sure many of your readers would agree with me! Thanks for your work!.Version: 7.2.4

Suggesting a Section for ProjectsIf you’ve searched for The Atlantic on the App Store, you’re aware of the high-level journalism published by the outlet. I’m proud to say that The Atlantic is the only magazine that I’ve (consistently) subscribed to for the last 7 years. And the iOS app befits its standard: clean, straightforward, and neatly organized. The one suggestion I would like to offer is the addition of Projects. The app’s “Sections” tab is nearly identical to the full website, with the exception of Projects. There are no doubt technical reasons for its omission that far exceed my level of understanding. However, The Atlantic’s Projects have long been a favorite feature. 2020’s Shadowland is particularly wonderful. In-app access to the Projects would be a fantastic addition, and I hope to see it in a future update..Version: 6.1.1

Love this magazine, but...I’m a new user of the app and have just spent fifteen minutes trying to find the ‘search’ function, is it possible there isn’t one? If it is then this is major failing..Version: 6.1.1

TTTTT23456Excellence, as always. Keep going..Version: 6.0.3

Really enjoy the AtlanticI really like the new format of the Atlantic, especially the estimate on how long it will take to read. Always enjoy David Frum, even if I don’t always agree.Version: 6.0.4

Excellent journalism made easily accessibleThis is my go-to news app. The curated news feed and insightful reporting make this a top-notch news app.Version: 6.0.4

App is ok, but content is fantasticYes, the app is not ultra sophisticated. But that's not the point. Consistently interesting and engaging articles.Version: 3.0

Even better than the print versionI’ve been a subscriber to the print version of The Atlantic on and off for thirty years. Always loved it for the high quality of its contributors, both fiction and non-fiction. The digital version is even better. More content, diverse voices, easy to navigate, but still the best writing to be found in any medium. It’s like a newscast, documentary, feature film and public square all in one..Version: 6.0.4

A new old friendGlad for this publication. Widens my horizon..Version: 6.0.4

ExcellentThis is an excellent app.....almost too good to be true as a freebee. Interesting items delivered in an attractive and clear format. So good I have now subscribed to the hard copy version which I guess is their intention !!!! Mike. Sydney Aust.Version: 2.2

New format is easier to use and save the great articles.I was becoming increasingly frustrated with the app because it often wouldn’t let me save articles (I have a subscription). That has just changed and I am happy. Many of their articles are long and I may not want to finish in one sitting. I really enjoy the magazine a lot. Be sure to sign up for their photography to be delivered to your inbox. They have themes and pictures are outstanding..Version: 6.0.4

The Adult in American Political and Social ThoughtJournalism that is more valuable than ever — a go to source for anyone who believes a well-informed, critically thinking citizenry of independent thought is still essential for a flourishing society. Digitally, The Atlantic is both pulse and perspective on the relevant issues of importance with content that is digestible and accessible. (I really like the internal links to other articles, as well as other sites.) The magazine is the place for big ideas and emerging issues with writing that is thought provoking, trustworthy, and typically fascinating. Liberal bias? They are so far above any such labeling with some of the best minds in a diverse cross section of experience and sensibilities, and content that is a worthy addition to knowledge..Version: 6.0.3

Mostly nice, but one persistent annoyanceThe app looks nice, and the content is excellent. However, reading long articles is challenging, because the app won’t remember where I am if I don’t finish reading an article in one sitting. It’s like reading the paper magazine, but with someone who closes the magazine and takes out your bookmark every time you put the issue down. Why can’t the app just resume in the state that it was in before switching? (It does behave like this if the switch is brief, but will revert to the home page or a blank screen with longer breaks.).Version: 7.2.4

ExcellentThe Atlantic it always is an excellent publication the only publication is once again Apple promises it with Apple plus news yet that’s a lie Apple seems to Lie a lot these days.I have Apple News+ and I’m supposed to get the Atlantic well I guess a couple articles that’s not exactly getting the Atlantic to me and Apple has no right to advertise that way it’s simply an advertisement this is useless subscribe to the Atlantic and that stinks Apple stinks there’s scam artists of the worst type people are getting wise that kind of behavior on the part of Apple..Version: 6.1.2

ExcellentThis magazine is full of excellent stories and incredible journalism. The UI is beautiful and clean. Anne Applebaum’s piece in the July 2020 issue is particularly fantastic. New stories daily in addition to magazine additions. I would like to suggest that they add a projects page so we can view things like Shadowland more easily. I would also make the much bigger request that they add the rest of the magazine additions into the app. They currently have available every issue of the Atlantic magazine going back to 2004. It would be an amazing luxury to have the entire backlog of the magazine available for reading..Version: 6.1.1

Great magazineSuch well written articles Really enjoying my subscription.Version: 6.0.4

Disappointed by the latest updateI’ve been a lover of this app for the last two years, especially because it is the only journalism app I know of that has no ads. Sadly, with this latest update and the addition of the crossword, ads are here. The ad-less app really made The Atlantic stand out compared to any other app of this kind and I’m disappointed to see ads on here now. I understand the need for ad revenue, but I will be going back to reading on safari with an ad blocker now. I hope you reconsider the addition of ads!.Version: 6.2.1
