WIRED Magazine (UK) for Negative User Reviews

Doesn’t fit the iPad screenWired has stopped trying. I don’t mind the magazine layout (although much preferred the old system) but at least make it fit the bloody screen so I don’t have to move my finger around. I’m guessing wired are not making much money from this and focusing on other ways to get content to people but either way subscription is going for the sheer laziness and lack of testing.Version: 33.2

Paid for subscription. Can't log in.I paid for my subscription, and I can't log in with my information. I contacted their customer service, and they told me they didn't handle Apple Store transactions. I told them I purchased the subscription on their website. They asked me for proof of payment. I sent a copy of my statement, and a print screen of the confirmation I received on their website. They told me they couldn't help me because they only handle UK transactions. This is the worst customer service ever, and now I'm going to have to contact my bank to get rid of the recurring charge..Version: 32.2.0.71

Doesn't Work with iOS 8.1 Upgrade'Cannot open app-'just get a blank screen with iOS 8.1 upgrade (on iPhone 6 plus). Please fix app or refund me my paid-for subscription for undeliverable issues..Version: 31.3.4.67

PDF viewing onlyWould be good to have a ‘text reader’ facilty rather than having to zoom in constantly..Version: 33.3

Subscribed and nothing.Super disappointed since I love to spread the good word about Wired. Please fix..Version: 32.2.0.71

App doesn't work at allCannot access any digital editions since app doesn't allow login.Version: 32.6.1.98.102896

Wired: Welcome to the future of terrible appsVery poor app, regularly crashes, doesn’t scroll properly on the screen or scale to fit different screen sizes. I expect a lot better from a company covering tech... preach, but definitely don’t practice.Version: 33.2

Can't even get accessI subscribed to the magazine at the end of November, and downloaded the app. The app will not recognize my account at all, and repeated messages to the publisher only get (1) instructions on how to download the app and log in (which do not work), and (2) a promise to get back to me in a few days (which so far has never happened). Ironic that a month and a half later, a magazine like Wired still cannot fix their app or subscriber accounts..Version: 32.2.0.71

Massive budget cut destroyed App and MagUnfortunately when the new editor took he had no interest in the magazine’s readership. The online version is now barely useable and the magazine has halved its number of editions each year. Very disappointing from someone who has been a subscriber since the first UK edition..Version: 33.3

Bad UITerrible experience. The downloaded wired magazine is horrible very long PDF not previewing or loading in a readable format for iPhone. When reading pdf, the top part can’t be read as hidden under the app menu header..Version: 33.3

Hang on a mo - its not half bad2023 update… this feels old now.. a bad pdf reader type experience. NB: The December 2010 issue of Wired magazine on iPad was a one-off publication. Regular iPad versions of Wired will begin in 2011. Having read the US version this was more than welcome. Its cheaper than the print version and has some nice interactive content as well as the usual. The imagery looks great (mostly) and the portrait to landscape stuff works well; if users are having issues they should take time to read the instructions before they complain here. Bravo chaps and chapesses. Suggestions - The ability to back up editions, I might not want to carry around a full years worth and I don't want to have to download an edition more than once if I fancy having a read of it again in a few months. Additional streaming of content might be an idea to reduce the massive size / bulk out the content Background downloads - half a gig is a long wait..Version: 33.6

Poor servicePretty poor app when it is so complicated to access on an iPad what you have paid on an iPhone.Version: 33.3

Hige download?I got the Wired mag UK app. Then I paid for this month's issue and now I wait for the 500 mb file to download...and if I stray away to another app, then the download of my paid for Wired mag issue is Paused? Stupid...I will buy only one issue, thanks for the lesson.Version: 1.1.1.1.4927

Poor updateThe habit of the app taking you back to the library every time you open it rather than the last page you read is really annoying.Version: 33.1

Content 5/5. App design lacking. The content from Wired is, as always, incredible. And let me say straight away worth every bit of the headache caused by the flaws in design and flow of the app. They treat the app like a magazine shelf that needs to be flipped through to discover rather than have it readily available..Version: 33.1

RubbishI just purchased an annual digital subscription for iPad and I'm unable to download the new issue or any issue except the free sample. It's asking me to pay for it again. Buyers beware..Version: 2.4.0.27.45765

BrokenAlthough I am a subscriber, the app does not recognize my subscription information..Version: 32.2.0.71

Simple scans of print pagesI had high hopes for the Wired app, turns out that the pages are simple scans, they don’t fit the iPad screen and the index is just a list of page numbers. Cancelled my trial..Version: 33.1

Poor app experienceInstruction don't match UI and poor Ux. content is good though just poor deivery.Version: 33.4

MisleadingThe screenshots for this app give the impression that the articles render on an iPhone on scrollable, readable fashion. They don’t. It’s just a PDF of the magazine. That’s it. It’s very poor. It’s also what we expect from Condé Naste..Version: 33.2

What happened to the formatting?!The digital print versions of Wired magazine both on iPad and iPhone have lost all the slick formatting that I have come to enjoy, and to a certain extent, come to expect from a technology heavy magazine such as this. So it has become frustrating to reading a magazine in the format of essentially a flat PDF, and I am questioning whether I will continue with my subscription unless Wired sort it out! The content is still world-class, but the pleasure of reading it has been hampered..Version: 33.3

Jan 18 2015:- App Still Crap - Can't Sign InApp does not work. Can't sign in with either account number or E-mail. Seems from reviews everybody has this problem. Remove from store until works!.Version: 32.2.0.71

Wait a minute...OK, so I've paid for 12.10 v1.2. Why does 12.10 v1.3 show as a different issue altogether? Has the content changed? Why would I repurchase the same content? The content is not in question, the framework is....Version: 0

Poor app - lost months of content with iOS 7 upgradeUpdate - October 27 app update fixed bug ...all content on iPad OK and accessible. Seems coincident with iOS upgrade - now can only ever see the last edition downloaded. Cannot see rest of monthly issues. What's going on here? Another example of the pitiful shortcomings around Wired circulation ... Rather ironic for a tech-related mag!.Version: 3.2.4.10.88575

How could they?I read Wired because it claims to be up there at the cutting edge. Then it’s App feels 10 years behind everyone else. Compared say with FT it’s very amateurish and ‘UK’ means pretty well what it says. I won’t be renewing.Version: 33.2

Lame....no US Wired IPhone app!?!I have wired magazine on my iPad but after a long back and forth I discovered there no iPhone edition!? Absurd, the freakin magazine is called wired magazine!? Just canceled my iPad edition. Thanks customer service for two weeks of back and forth..Version: 32.2.0.71

Thanks for the email notificationsOkay - your email notifications work, hooray! now figure out how to actually provide the digital copy of the magazine you just notified me of - seriously, what a joke!.Version: 32.2.0.71

TerribleI read The Times from the uk online. They have it nailed. It's better to read online then the paper itself and whenever I've read the app and I go to the print version I've always read what I wanted to read. Now wired being a tech leading edge magazine and not an old fashioned news publisher, you would have thought, would produce a great app. How wrong!! It's terrible. No navigation, tons of ads blah blah. It's just junk. I'm glad I read the reviews and only wasted 2.99..Version: 33.1

Massive fail for a tech magazineThis app will not allow login even with a valid account number. Embarrassing failure for an outfit that is supposed to be at the cutting edge of technology..Version: 32.2.0.71

Login issuesI’ve been a print subscriber for years but it’s a pain to login through the app. Support is slow. This is Wired. You guys are supposed to be get UX..Version: 33.3

Crash crash and crashThe magazine is amazing but it's impossible use this app because crash every moments!!! Vote 10/10 for the articles vote 1/10 for the app!!!.Version: 32.2.0.71

Update needed badly? When is this app/format going to get an update? A totally tedious, joyless reading experience. Why even bother with a digital offering when it’s this bad?.Version: 33.3

Hard to read on an iPhoneThe article does not auto scale to the iPhone screen making it hard to read. It is like reading a generic pdf one needs to zoom into.Version: 33.2

TerribleAwful app. Won’t let you “get” the editions you want despite the option. Customer services don’t want to know. Print edition arrives days/weeks earlier than digital one. Makes no sense. Will be cancelling..Version: 33.4

Content is great though the app and customer service is extremely disappointing. The content and journalism has always been top notch. No doubt. Though the bureaucracy of reporting a bug seems completely unhelpful and hindering. I have emailed and called Condé Nast UK regarding an issue with the layout in the app and I have received the most gobsmacking “computer says no” moment. Immediate response was to report to Apple App Store though the issue has nothing to do with Apple. After over 40 days of contacting them I still have not received any confirmation, though I was promised. Such a disappointment compared to the US Wired app..Version: 33.2

What are they thinking? This is app is so, so bad. It’s honestly insane. At first, if you’re like me and assumed that once you subscribed the app would improve - don’t bother. It’s literally just a pdf version of each magazine. You have to flick through like a physical magazine, and obviously, if you’re on a phone that means zooming in on each page. I can’t believe they tricked me into paying money for this garbage fire. You’re a magazine about the future of technology - build a real app..Version: 33.2

Content ok, format disappointingThe app is merely a glorified pdf player of the paper magasine. Not interactive links, can only be read in portrait format, need to zoom in constantly to read as the page size is stuck to the screen size (could be longer and allow for scrolling...) Disappointing for a tech-oriented publication. Take a page off The Economist or 1843 book....Version: 33.2

Disappointing design on iPad for an IT magazineThe pages don’t fit on my iPad with them either leaching over to the right or bottom of the screen. Every time you open the app it takes you to the All Issues screen before having to reopen the latest downloaded edition. Current issue has lost the navigation and simply shows page numbers. Articles are still excellent and images are great..Version: 33.2

Unable to useI was a happy user for a couple of months. Now like others I am locked out and unable to login automatically so this app is useless and Condé Nast have my money....Version: 33.1

Why the change in format?I have always enjoyed the rich and interactive feel of the Wired digital edition, the mixed media, bold colours an cutting edge design. This month I opened the app to find a flat, 2D facsimile of the print edition. The whole experience is dull and lifeless compared to the previous offer and the print format does not translate well to the iPad screen. Even the page size is off and the font size for may articles is practically unreadable. It feels like Wired UK has stopped practising what it preaches..Version: 33.2

Don’t botherImpossible to use on the iPhone. Conde Nast worse than useless. For a magazine which is meant to be technology focused this is unforgivable.Version: 33.4

Odd for a tech publication?I’m a big fan of wired the mrs also but the app delivers a strange low tech version of the mag as, what appears to be, a pretty basic pdf. No use at all on an iPhone XR or smaller unless you’re desperate. The US e version of wired is much superior but sadly you’re UK subscription doesn’t allow for US wired access, unless of course you pay twice. I prefer the print version it’s great but dont bother with the app is my tip..Version: 33.3

Unable to get new July issue!I'm a regular purchaser of the Wired UK iPad app but having no luck getting the new July issue. Got the latest update and there are no prompts at all for me to get the issue. I even reinstalled the app and past issues but no luck. Help????.Version: 1.7.0.3.22810

I expected betterAnnoying to use. Fixed portrait format. Klunky startup. Utter rubbish app when compared to other readers. Stupid user interface..... is there a scrollable page below? Is it just an advert? Wired won't survive the migration from paper to e-readers with this app..Version: 33.1

Broken log in -- don't buy until fixedI subscribed but now cannot log in. The log in uses a username, not email but you can never recover your username if you forget it. I've tried contacting the publisher but to no avail. So they keep billing me for a magazine I can't read. There no contact details in the app at all -- unacceptable user functionality for a product aimed at the apple audience. Don't buy it until this backward log in feature is fixed..Version: 32.2.0.71

You should be a shamedAnyone working on this should be ashamed or they simply don’t care! It’s absolutely terrible for a pub focused on Tech. Save yourself the time, hassle and money. Buy something else..Version: 33.4

I am just trying anything to close the downloadNot useful to me..Version: 3.3.3.36.89459

Subscribed and cancelled within 10 minutesWas not mobile friendly! Very hard to read the text and it just looked like scans, and did not fill the page correctly. Plenty of white space around the edges and had to zoom in manually and move the page around to try and make the text readable. Not an enjoyable experience, I couldn’t continue! Very poor for a magazine like this. Hopefully I am wrong and it was just this way for the 2020 edition or there was a way to make it mobile friendly that I missed. If so I will try again but I don’t want to risk it. Very disappointed..Version: 33.3

Utter crapPaid for a subscription and it won't sign me in..Version: 32.2.0.71

Can't restore purchase to retrieve my subscription.Just says restoring purchases failed..Version: 31.3.4.67

Annoying and with watered down contentThese days I am finding the content rather bland and, for me, off topic. I appreciate Wired want to be more than just a technology magazine but I’m sorry, that’s why we subscribe to you, and most of the time we read articles on fashion and architecture that aren’t even technology inspired. Plus, SO ANNOYING the way the app reverts to the library every time you stop reading for a while. No other magazine I have does this. Very poor..Version: 33.1

RetroWired were one of the post-print pioneers; with an engaging digital-first offering. Now you’ve gone back to sticking the print magazine on an iPad screen. Fatal mistake. Probably to save money. I fear it will accelerate the demise, not halt or reverse it. Cancelling subscription..Version: 33.2

Worst app ever😡Just to add to the chorus of discount, I too have a paid for subscription and cannot log onto the Newsstand portal for Wired magazine. I have verified IDs, changed password, etc to no avail. Get it together Condé Nast. You took my money now provide the service..Version: 32.2.0.71

Subscription Not FoundWouldn't load my active subscription..Version: 33.1

Slow downloadToo slow to download and why is it only in one orientation? Sorry I think I'll stick with the US version..Version: 0

Going to cancel this subscriptionInstalled new App and lost of all of my back issues which I had paid for before 2016. No warning no compensation. Waiting for explanation and refund. Worst still I have a print subscription and threw my old mags away as I knew they were safe in my digital sub. Avoid until they fix.Version: 33.1

App doesn’t open in iOS 17Since getting a new iPhone 15 running iOS 17, the app won’t open. Is the app now defunct? That would be a shame as simply having the magazine online was helpful..Version: 33.4

Hopeless!Unstable, crashes, boring, no good!.Version: 1.7.0.3.22810

HorribleWon't take password, even after successful (unnecessary) re-set. Runs subscriber around in circles..Version: 3.3.4.39.92754

Non acces to my subscriptionI paid my subscription but dont have acces to my Wired Magazine!!!.Version: 32.2.0.71

Fix the red dot bug!If you send a red dot ( notification) you have to be clear to users how to clear it. Otherwise, like me you’ll just delete the app! And then you get bad NPS scores ( like I’ve just given you ), which make your managers and shareholders angry..Version: 33.2

CANT LOG IN!!!I'm not able to log into my account.Version: 32.6.1.98.102896

Unable to access purchased contentThe app will not allow me to create an account to download the magazine issue I have paid for (I have received an e-mail confirmation from Apple that the purchase has been processed)..Version: 32.2.0.71

ScamBought a subscription weeks ago and still not allowed access to any editions online and none received In the mail either. No decent answers from Conde Naste just that they have had “problems”. Paying full subscription cost with zero benefit. Avoid. Just buy it in the newsagent if you want a copy. Asked them more than once if it’s a scam and surprise surprise no answer....Version: 33.4

Cancelled annual subscriptionI’ve been a subscriber for over two years (annual subscriptions). Wired has just moved (March/April 2018 edition) from an interactive responsive app UX to what is effectively a pdf. Very hard to read on an iPhone. No hyperlinks, so contents page is just text, you can no longer touch a link to go to a section. I’ve just cancelled my annual subscription. A real shame as the content is good..Version: 33.2

New update same storySo the new update came in today. Unfortunately still no correction to the formatting issue. More than 2yrs and still no fix..Version: 33.4

Download does not workThe app serves one purpose: to download issues. I’ve yet to be able to download anything, despite reinstalling and re-authenticating my credentials multiple times..Version: 33.4

Great magazine, but a dreadful appDon’t waste your time here. Pages don’t fit on the screen (iPad Pro) and can’t be zoomed in or out. Can’t navigate via the contents page, as it’s just an image. Basically this is just a collection of images of each page from the print magazine, that have been sized so they don’t fit the screen resolution of the iPad. Total rubbish..Version: 33.2

DesapointedOne of my favourite magazine... could be so much better than showing a PDF which you need to zoom to be able to read. I cancelled my trial and didn’t even bother reading after 3 pages of struggles. May consider re-subscribe when Wired really make use of their resources to create a full iPhone friendly version on their magazines!.Version: 33.2

Unable to log inSince updating I can't log in or reset my account. Frustrating!.Version: 33.1

RubbishVery poor effort - claims to offer a preview, but there is very little content, just advertising and titles for articles. It would seem they aren't confident enough of their content to actually give you any! The only thing that seems complete are the ads. Navigation is clunky and annoying. Not worth the 80MB download to see nothing but ads in the "trial"..Version: 2.4.0.27.45765

GarbageFull of ads. Do NOT buy this. Crooks..Version: 1.1.1.1.4927

Sorry, but... this is rubbishThe app uses 2/3 of the screen only. Basically it's just a pdf viewer. It used to be so much better. I have no idea what happened. Really disappointing..Version: 33.3

UselessApparently the content of this publication is good. I would not know as it keeps crashing so I've not had the opportunity to read much of each issue.Version: 32.2.0.71

Good content, poor app!I find the app very buggy, slow and loses downloads, if it was not free with printed version I would feel ripped off. Pity as the content is interesting and there is so much more that could be done... let down by rubbish app experience..Version: 33.2

Very sluggishPainful waiting for the app to open and when it did open, all the mags I had purchased have now been reset to pay again!! Not overlay happy with that. I give 3 stars as I really like the mag, but continual sluggishness is annoying..Version: 33.1

Poor iPad Pro layoutHaving just purchased a shiny new iPad Pro I was excited to see how wired would look and feel in the hands of the spectacular device The answer.... Poor, very poor. Pages do not fit properly within the frame. There is an annoying black menu bar at the top that refuses to disappear The latest article has graphics and pictures obscuring the text, I could go on. For a technology publication this is unforgivable. A far superior experience is viewing this on safari using the reader reader function Come on wired / Conde get your act together. If this doesn’t improve I will be cancelling my subscription in favour of a more advanced technology publication..Version: 33.3

Fix the download processAny app that requires 500MB or more in a download should know how to do it in the background. Why do I have to sit here staring at the library screen until the entire issue downloads? If you leave the app, the DL pauses. If you turn off the screen, it resets completely. This is ridiculous..Version: 2.4.0.27.45765

Content is great but layout is terribleThe layout of the iPhone app version it the worst I’ve ever seen, it’s almost like just the scanned version of the print issue. This means that you have to zoom in on each paragraph and move the page as you read it. It’s such a shame because the content is great but the app makes reading unenjoyable..Version: 33.4

Nothing to previewThe preview doesn't contain any articles so it's hard to give a rating. The magazine is also oddly difficult to navigate through compared to others..Version: 2.4.0.27.45765

For a forward thinking magazineThe app doesn’t work, I can’t subscribe or even download issues often, customer service don’t respond to emails and don’t help on the phone. Refund purchases that don't work. Go elsewhere.Version: 33.1

Let me Out of ThisI cant figure out how to get out of an auto renewing subscription for this. I dont want it, dont need it and there is no way to shut it off. when i try to sign in, i am not a user - but I keep getting charged. Digital runaround! I hope Conde Nast actually watches this feed and will help me..Version: 2.1.0.18.33355

What are you guys doing?!I am a Wired fan but I think you guys are doing badly.... I bought the first issue of Wired UK and now after the udpate, I lost my issue and I will need to REPURCHASE again?! Or this is an illusion that when I hit confirm to buy again you are going to say - Oh you have purchased this item and this will be a free download?! Now I understand why sales are bad for you guys.....Version: 1.2.0

Where are my old subscriptions? The latest app update has restored content prior to 2016, which is an improvement. However, starting with the Mar/Apr 18 issue the layout is horrible. The articles used to be specially formatted for the iPad but now it seems like a simple scan of three print edition, so images are spread across page breaks and don't even scale properly for the iPad mini. The US version of the magazine doesn't have these problems. Why does the UK edition use the same layout and format?.Version: 33.1

Or interactive at all!!Unless I have this wrong (and I’m asking as I can’t believe it from a tech publication and so I’m hoping I’ve done something wrong!) there is no interactive content here. You have to manually zoom in and out to read the articles. Doesn’t even appear to be any shortcuts anywhere. Great magazine let down by experience..Version: 33.2

New layout very poorLatest update is much worse. Text too small and constantly scrolling up and down because the top ribbon obscures part of the page. If it's not revised I will stop subscribing..Version: 33.1

Great content but app crashes frequentlyI love the content and Wired always has great, well-written articles, but the app keeps crashing when I load it. At times it gets so bad it crashes my whole phone. This needs to be fixed on iPhone 6 ASAP since the app is unusable right now..Version: 32.2.0.71
