GQ UK Men's Lifestyle Magazine for Negative User Reviews

GoodNice.Version: 31.3.4.96

DO NOT SUPPORT UK GQ!Sorry but I can no longer read a magazine that not only votes Kim Kardashian as the woman of the year but also has her on the cover to try to sell more magazines. Will never buy again..Version: 31.3.0.93.98649

Terrible app updateAs per other reviews, this update has made the digital version unreadable. Now just a pdf. No contents. Awful! Do not pay for it!!!!.Version: 33.0.0

From excellent to a photocopySometimes people update stuff thinking it’s an improvement when in fact they have made a complete mess of the job. Step forward GQ. The old app was a wonderful experience, crisp and clear, easy to navigate. The new edition is a glorified photocopy and has totally ruined the experience. I spend my life rotating and resizing the iPad now to get a decent read. Don’t waste your money, I’m not anymore..Version: 33.0.0

Don’t waste your moneyI’m unsubscribing from gq completely because of this app..Version: 33.0.0

Good but not GoodI re subscribed after buying a paper copy to read on train journey, however I am disappointed at the navigation through the digital version, it needs to be more fluent and better laid out to be able to find articles. There is far too many adverts and what I term 'con' pages. That where you attempt to turn the page you hit there strategically placed enter button! And as I have said before the mag is very London biased, perhaps you should bring out a London version AND a UK version, or even a north and south version OR dare I say it a Scottish version!!!!.Version: 3.3.3.60.89459

App UpdateThe recent app update does not work well at all. Does not auto fit to screen when you go to a page so constantly zooming in on text to read an article.Version: 33.0.0

Don’t bother subscribingDespite eventually managing to log in and being a paid-up subscriber, the app still wants me to pay to access any issue. Conde Nast have neither explanation, resolution nor apology for this utterly useless app. Will be getting a refund on my subscription.Version: 33.3

Good once downloadedFound this app great when the content had finally downloaded! It's really annoying that you have to have the app active (open on screen) to ensure the content downloads.... If like me you have a 2mb connection on and off it's taken 2 days to download. You guys really need to sort out the download pausing when you flick to another app. It also needs a clearer view of what you have and have not downloaded, they look very much the same in browser. This App does need work!! A subscribe option wouldn't go a miss either..Version: 1.9.0.2.26413

Issues take too long to qownloadEverything else else loads fine but this magazine never downloads completely. All other apps work fine and no problems with anything on the network but this app never downloads issues. Waste of money really..Version: 33.3

New portrait version buggy and crashesBrunt back old version. New portrait only is buggy and crashes frequently..Version: 2.8.0.23.59944

Not updated! There is only one issue available to purchase: July 2011. New issues are not being added to this app. The American GQ app is much better..Version: 1.9.0.2.26413

Shocking App UpdateThe new update essentially takes a fantastic digital print app and turns it into an average pdf reader, a massive step backwards... bring back the old version! Makes the magazine unreadable on iPhone too..Version: 33.0.0

Freddy Gray propagandaPlease stop writing about American politics and “both sides” blaming..Version: 33.3

Thanks for the UpdateIt is August 13th and the only issue available through the app is July's..Version: 1.9.0.2.26413

PoorIt has gone downhill since the update. No longer remembers where you were up to reading the e-mag. You have to go back in and find the page. Also a lot of the articles have an elitist left wing bias to them..Version: 33.0.0

Good but room for improvementInitially I thought this was an environmentally friendly way to view this magazine while also benefiting from some interactive media options. On occasion this is the case, however the frustration is the delay it takes to receive the issue whether you are a subscriber or not. The issues are readily available in shops but you have to wait 4 to 5 days for the IPAD version to be released. This surely should be available on the same day. I am frustrated at this and hope it improves otherwise I can see a lot of people jumping ship. I hope GQ and developers take notice of the feedback..Version: 2.1.0.18.33355

Clunky appThe magazine is good but the app is ordinary. Clunky, slow (each page has a slight pause as it loads) and impossible to navigate. Once you start reading a particular edition you can’t get back to the home menu or easily navigate other than one page at a time. Poor user experience all around..Version: 33.0.0

Oh dear!First ever review on App Store. Why? To say how bad the new GQ app is compared to the old app. The old app was smart, navigable and most importantly, readable! The new app is just a clever print copy scan. Pages look dreadful. Text is All but unreadable, had to stretch and pull all over the place to read! Oh, and in the issue I just read, about a dozen pages had been devoted to an American in flight ad magazine selling gifts and gadgets for everything! Take out the regular self congratulatory nonsense, and the paid for editorial from estate agents posing as investment bankers (there’s an image to conjure with) and you end up with 340 pages of microscopic dross! Time for a radical new Ed it seems. You can be too long in the same job (note to Ed)..Version: 33.0.0

Worst app everDoes not allow you to restore purchases and no one home at customer support. If there was an option for negative stars these clowns would be getting it..Version: 31.3.4.96

Terrible UpdateUsed to really like the iPhone and iPad versions of the app but the update has turned issues into PDFs. The contents feature is useless as it simply lists page numbers rather than actually say what is on each page. Used to have a subscription through the App Store but I’m now asked to pay full price for issues I’ve already paid for. I’m also not able to access every past issue I paid for. Needless to say, I’ve cancelled my subscription..Version: 33.0.0

Doesn’t workYou’d have thought a major publisher would find this simple? I have a subscription, but I cannot access it. Customer services are clueless and keep sending the same (unclear) instructions. I’ve been trying for days to get this fixed. This app is non functional and Condé Nast should be ashamed of their systems and service..Version: 35.2

PatheticOf all the apps I have ever used (EVER) this is the worse It really deserves no stars, will not allow me to log in again and from the other reviews I’m not alone. Now, will any one read this and follow up with me, answer not in a million years. Baz Francis 03,09. 21.Version: 33.3

Gone downhillSo annoying that the formatting has changed. Totally awkward to read magazine on phone now. Up until a few months ago was perfectly optimised but laziness has crept in. Please revert back to previous system. This is shoddy.Version: 33.3

BuggyIt suffers constant crashes while reading (never reproducible but every 30 pages or so). Downloads never seem to finish properly and insist you start again (all of 800mb per issue). The crashes while reading issues only makes this worse. It won't download issues in the background so the app needs to be open and the device awake, which requires you to poke the screen every 90 secs so it will download. It would be nice if it worked, some of the interactive bits are nice but really - it should be reliable on the iPad 3 which is surely the target device. I'm glad I only subscribed for 1 month, I won't be continuing..Version: 2.8.0.23.59944

Gone from a must read to a boring, politically correct waste of timeAfter 10+ years of reading, I’ve given up my subscription..Version: 33.0.0

Broken downloadI am also experiencing a download problem. Error message says broken or missing file. Cannot download the current issue. I have paid the subscription, can successfully download the preview and have restarted the iPad numerous times. The App support link also goes to a missing web page... Any ideas?.Version: 2.1.0.18.33355

Well-meaning but still very badI can see what they are trying to do with this, but the magazine is way too large at 500MG per issue, especially since most of that seems to be glossy ads. Add to that the app's inability to download in the background and its constant 'pausing' means that it is the most frustrating magazine app I have. The Economist and the Sunday Times have the right idea. A few simple changes would make all the difference. Get on it GQ, and in the meantime, don't you dare review other smartphone apps until you've got the log out of your own eye..Version: 2.1.0.18.33355

Cant restore purchase when moving to new deviceIos 9 may have broken the app, as I cant activate my subscription or restore existing purchases Please contact the app support if you have that problem.Version: 32.2.0.98.99983

March edition abandons mobile view (updated)The latest March 2018 issue no longer features the mobile view of the magazine on iPhone X making it virtually impossible to read without constant pinching and zooming of the text. While the mobile format had some quirks with its indexing of the magazine, it was very easy to read the text. Please restore the mobile version with the “read” feature. The iPad version works perfectly. The newly released app goes a long way to addressing the readability problem for current and future issues of the magazine. However, it renders its archive of previous issues to virtually functionless pdf copies. It would be nice if the old app was released as an “archive” reader for past issues created for the old format. I also appear to have lost access to the December 2017 issue that was the first in my new subscription. I am quickly becoming a very disappointed and dissatisfied subscriber :(.Version: 33.0.0

!!!!!This is a very nice magazine but when we will get all the other issues why they sold July and just stopped. Please update ,,,,,,,,.Version: 1.9.0.2.26413

The WORST app EVERBy far, the WORST app I have ever used let alone paid for. Impossible to download an edition and no way to exit app except close..Version: 33.0.0

Can't restore previous purchasesThe app has a serious problem when it is impossible to restore previous purchases on a new device..Version: 32.2.0.98.99983

Can no longer read on mobile devicesLast five issues have not been optimised for Mobile Devices. Makes this App totally pointless. Get the US App version, which actually does work and has morphed into the same content anyway….Version: 33.3

Subscription problemsHey, Looking forward to getting into my newly purchased subscription but it is telling me to restart the app and then try again. It doesn't work! It is however paid for... please fix.Version: 2.1.0.18.33355

Technical issues.Better than it was, at least you can see a double page spread in landscape now - but - I can’t get rid of the GQ header strip at the top of my iPad Pro so you can never see a full page which is really annoying. A while back the App used to function flawlessly, it’s been on a bumpy road for a while now! Any help greatly welcomed..Version: 35.2

DisappointingI hate to give this app two stars because it truly has the power and brilliance to be a perfect tablet version to the magazine, however it just crashes all the time. After reading previous reviews I decided to still subscribe to both the print edition and the iPad version irregardless of it's low star rating; after all, this was one of the reasons why I decided to buy an iPad mini in the first place as I use the magazine a lot as reference in my university lectures and carrying around a print edition isn't ideal. After two failed attempts at downloading it crashes at the last installation hurdle, thus having to start the process all over again to often find the same thing happens. However being able to read the magazine whilst it downloads is a great feature that doesn't come with a lot of other newsstand apps. I just wish this one worked and downloaded more effectively. Hopefully this issue is sorted out soon in the next update because it's really itself holding back..Version: 2.8.0.25.62800

DreadfulNew update is dreadful. Text too small, annoying black bar at the top. Just cancelled my subscription. Terrible..Version: 33.0.0

Hard to get the nav bar outIt’s a good app with quality contents. My only complaint is that it’s so hard to bring out the nav bar. Had to close the app every time trying to switch to another issue..Version: 33.3

Terrible Magazine, Terrible AppCan’t believe how bad this magazine has become in recent years..Version: 35.1

An app gone backwardsI can’t believe an update has taken an easy to use and digital friendly app into a pdf viewer. Not nice to use at all and I shall be cancelling my subscription because of it..Version: 33.0.0

MrFont and picture resolution of the whole magazine is quite low. Please match it up to GQ US edition where the resolution is excellent. Thanks.Version: 2.1.0.18.33355

Stuck on the blank page! The app does not work iOS 8.1 iPhone 6 plus.Version: 31.3.4.96

Annoying appWhat an annoying app. You have to swipe left, right, up, down and backwards to get to the content. Why not just provide high resolution pages from the print edition?.Version: 31.3.4.96

Could be better.Content is not the issue. We buy GQ because its the best, there is no question. But... In many ways the app leaves a lot to be desired, if I own issues that are many months apart I have to keep scrolling for them. Perhaps a page for all my download issues and purchased ones. Also I know I have a subscription but I'd like to be able to access information about my subscription as at the moment I don't feel like a valued customer purely because I've opted for digital..Version: 2.9.2.32.70167

Why change the contents?Previously pulling up the “hamburger” menu in the top right gave you a list of all the article and features, now it just shows you a list off page numbers which is completely useless. Why change good functionality to useless functionality? It’s bad enough that the contents page in the magazine isn’t hyperlinked, but now the digital magazine is just un-navigable..Version: 33.3

App asks me to pay even though my subscription is activeI renewed my subscription thru Apple a few months ago. It had been working fine but for the current (April/May 2023) issue, instead of allowing me to download as usual for free as part of my annual subscription, it wants me pay $3.99 to purchase it. I contacted Apple Support and we tried different things but that did not resolve the issue. I emailed GQ a couple of days ago and they did not reply. Apple can’t offer me a partial refund. This is very frustrating as I basically lost half a year of my subscription that I paid for. I’m not going to subscribe from them again!!.Version: 3.4

Gone downhill and stayed there! This was a great magazine optimised for iPad. Now it is just a PDF of the print copy. Having to constantly pinch and expand to read every article is a poor experience, made worse when images straddle two pages in print but are split on iPad. I let my subscription go when the app was downgraded and tried it again today hoping that the publisher had rethought its approach. Sadly there has been no improvement so I won’t be renewing my subscription..Version: 33.3

Not (down)loadingSimply will not load..Version: 33.3

What’s happened? As others have said the two latest issues have been unreadable on either iPad or iPhone. They’ve gone from specific mobile formatting as magazines to nothing more than a pdf of the magazine. What’s the point in having digital editions if all you’re going to do is take photos of each individual page then upload? Utterly unreadable in the current format. Free daily newspapers have worked out how to get the most from the format, yet a premium publisher such as Condé Nast not only don’t make the most of the the format but regress. Terrible..Version: 33.3

CrashesApp keeps crashing consistently on a brand new iPad Pro. Extremely frustrating!.Version: 33.3

Can't even download this new issueI have bought October issue but cannot even download! WHat a shame on you! I want my money back!!!!!!!!!!!.Version: 1.9.0.2.26413

Too slowFirst time i downloaded this app- it crashed and kept throwing me out! I deleted the app and then re downloaded- this time was able to get further into the app and purchased the magazine. After 3 failed attempts to download (each time the download getting to around 40% complete before crashing) i finally have the mag- which looks great and i will no doubt enjoy reading it. Only problem being i started downloading the magazine at 4:30 so has taken four hours to download. At the same time i have downloaded a tv programme from itunes on my desktop and it only took 25 mins- the programme was much larger n size also. If we could download the mag from our itunes and then sync across to the ipad this would be a much quicker way of doing things! Very unhappy that it has taken so long to download.Version: 1.7.0.0.20688

Not like last appWhat meant before some article comes with short videos Music video ,sport exercises which show how to preform the movement. And became smaller.Version: 33.3

Crashes all the timeNot sure why but unable to view purchased magazine as it tends to crash regularly... Lookforward to the fix.Version: 33.3

I tried it again, then deleted it againI downloaded the app because I got an email from Conde Nast, and decided to give the digital version another try. A few minutes later, and I have deleted it again. I don't need to clog up my iPad RAM with this content. I will stick with the printed edition. Downloading a new issue takes too long, and this probably because you get every single advert from the print edition. Navigation is simply awful. No index available. Portrait-orientation only. There is no value-added by the app, and the browsing experience is slow & frustrating. Rubbish..Version: 3.3.3.60.89459

New editions won’t downloadRefuses to download July edition 2020. App deleted, reinstalled. Purchases restored. Subscription confirmed active on website. Lots of free memory. Good Wi-Fi connection. Joke..Version: 33.3

Fake reviews hereThis app is not user friendly and their content is out of place.Version: 35.2.1

Not the full magazineI checked the printed magazine today and the property section seems to be missing from the iPad edition. That's a shame as its one of the reasons I buy GQ. The printed magazine also has a free magazine with it today (W H Smiths). I hope supplements (watches etc) will be included in future iPad editions. Some of the photos that would span double page on the printed edition, e.g. the Mercedes SL, do not fit on the screen, so you have to scroll left and right but can't see the full car, so needs a zoom feature applied to the picture. I like the iPad edition and it has some nice features but I'm not sure yet whether I'm a full convert, especially with the above considerations..Version: 2.1.0.18.33355

RequestI would love to see a yearly subscription option Thank you (I give 3 stars be because of the lack of yearly subscription. Many others use this option).Version: 2.0.0.9.32168

Impossible to cancel subscription.Apple you should take more responsibility to assist consumers..Version: 32.2.0.98.99983

Terrible updateAgree with others this is a huge step backwards almost to the point of being unusable. The old version which had the contents you could navigate through and showed the text in a readable format has gone replaced by a cheap PDF presentation where you have to zoom in to read anything. On an iPhone it’s a waste of time..Version: 33.0.0

GQ !Nice but American GQ is better....Version: 2.8.0.25.62800

GQCan you make it any more impossible to cancel a subscription? I will never, ever again subscribe to a magazine on the iPad ever, ever again..Version: 32.2.0.98.99983

Awful update.Who had the bright idea of changing a fantastic digital app, to a PDF file. Stop penny pinching and fix the app..Version: 33.0.0

Won't connect to server?Trying to read articles but says it won't connect to server..Version: 32.6.1.131.102896
