KORG iMS-20 for Negative User Reviews

Needs to be AUv3!Sorry but I don’t use Gadget and never will. It just doesn’t work for me. But your stand-alone synths are awesome and need to be AUv3! Needs to be AUv3!.Version: 1.7.3

Great sounding MS20...... but hemmed in by lack of inter app audio or auv3 support. Version 1.7.1.Version: 1.7.1

Only 16 bit, 44.1 KHz otherwise greatBecause this is a digital synth, it will never be a true representation of the analog synth's continuous signal. But what is worse is that it outputs at 16 bit, which is even less accurate of the true sound. 44.1khz, while standard for CD quality, would have been better at 96 kHz to increase the sampling rate of the waveforms being output and allow for better DSP in other DAWs...Version: 1.6.3

Crashes when I try to load new presetI have a 3-4 year old iPad. Please fix this bug..Version: 1.6.6

Not install iphoneWhy im1 install ok iphone. this not ok. give me back my money..Version: 1.7.0

Out of date and has bugsThis app last had an update 2 years ago. The user manual does not work and the preset selection does not indicate what you have touched. This app needs updates for IOS15..Version: 1.7.3

AbandonwareKorg seems to have abandoned this app. No integration into Gadget or Audiounit compatibility..Version: 1.6.6

AB3 and midi learn update pleaseA great synth that need a little love from its creators. Plug a Quantum step sequencer into it via AB2 and it really takes off. I’ve marked the ms20 down because Korg looks to have abandoned this classic softie..Version: 1.6.6

Great synth but limited to MIDI Channel 1This is a great replica for of the actual mini synth from KORG. Love the way you can remove the keyboard in the UI so you get more space for controls. It's no the best synth for iPad though as it wasn't designed for the iPad or with touch in mind. Thor, Magellan and Sunrizer (probably even Casini) are more 'practical' iPad synths. My extra sourness with iMS20 is the inexplicable and weird limitation to only accept MIDI via Channel 1. This is a turn off. There is absolutely no technical reason why this would be limited to Channel 1. When KORG updates and allows to pick any of the 16 channels I'll update my rating to 4 stars. Right now it's basically useless in my setup. KORG needs to understand the times when iPad was a music making gimmick are gone and most people hook up multiple MIDI devices at once via USB ports or things like iConnectMIDI..Version: 1.6.3

Great app but some glitchesIt does not seem to work well with inter-app audio. glitches, saturates and sometimes downright goes into a bizarre continuous sound loop. Please fix..Version: 1.6.6

Latency .... LatencyVery nice app and sound really good but latency is too high. I am using an iPad mini retina with latest iOS 9. Not so great for keyboard player because of latency unfortunately..Version: 1.6.6

Auv3 please 🙏 with sugar on topThanks.Version: 1.7.6

Well . . .I am a bit disappointed. I really expected that when I leave one setup and go to a preset that the synth would reconfigure. The problem is it does not, so if you messed up one patch it affects the next one loaded. I reinstalled it and it still does the same thing. Loading a new patch in my view should load all the variables, not just some of them. Again as with almost all of these music apps, the sound is thin when hooked up to a mixer and good speaker / amp combo. There is some serious bottom end that simply is not there. iPad pre-amp problems?? Who knows. We'll never know. The iPad does everything half decent, but nothing expertly. I think they are spreading it too thin. If they had awesome sound it would surely cost a lot more, but is that not what musicians want?.Version: 1.0.0

Lovely to look at, otherwise disappointingI guess im showing my n00b colours and i fully expect to be told to RTFM but frankly this is one of the most impenetrable music apps I've ever laid eyes on. I understand the basics of modulation and waveforms and stuff but seriously, one look at the patch bay and my ambition was left crushed by the door. Overall it's fun for a noodle, but i genuinely believe apps like this are seriously limited. If you want to create songs using this app alone, you'll produce songs that sound almost identical and quite dull. Have a listen to the stuff on Soundcloud. The problem is that you can't expand out like you can with hardware. You can't take the sounds from this and easily add them to a sequencer that's running a sampler and other effects etc. It doesn't easily export out to other apps (if at all) unless you go via your computer. So it's a curiosity at best really. And, frankly, c ant hold a torch to Nanostudio which has 4 synths and a 25-pad MPC-style sampler, song editor, numerous LFOs and 2 effects per synth etc. Perhaps NS doesn't create quite the same sounds as this app, but it's one helluva lot easier to use and it's all self contained. Overall, an achievement for Korg, and fascinating to play with, but almost useless practically unless you want to churn out stuff that might have sounded new 20 years ago :(.Version: 0

Korg always leaves me hanging…Just got this and, I don’t know why I am surprised, but here I am, and this is another great example of a half baked product that the company obviously doesn’t care about maintaining. The interface is not clear and/or easy to figure out, the whole thing is rendering with obvious unintended overlap on the screen of my 2021 iPad Pro 11”, and the user manual does not even appear, when I select it in the menu. This really should be made illegal; if they don’t intend to keep supporting software in the future, a developer should be prevented from being able to sell it, unless there is a given and acknowledged disclaimer that the software will not be touched for maintenance updates. I’m giving it 2 stars because it sounds like it should, but missing 3 stars because the standalone version of the app no longer is functional as a compositional tool, because of obvious neglect by the devs at Korg. I feel VERY disappointed that I threw away $30 on this app. Thanks for nothing, Korg. 👎🏼👎🏼.Version: 1.7.3

No AUv3 or ableton link supportPainful to see such a great synth being shoved in closet wearing a hood and having the key for both flushed down the toilet. I hope a teenage mutant ninja turtle finds the programming power to unlock the beast from its shackles to let it play nice in the contemporary world of iOS music production with AUv3 compatibility 🐢.Version: 1.6.6

No midi syncFantastic app but no midi sync to hook it up to your favourite DAW. Thats disappointing though you can do lots without a midi sync connection. How good would it be WITH ONE!.Version: 1.7.6

Gadget pleaseGadget please or a dedicated sequencer, need to sequence.Version: 1.6.6

Be careful playing liveIt has a "rate me" nag screen that may pop up while you're playing (like it did for me)..Version: 1.6.6

Doesn't workBroken since ios 8.Version: 1.6.3

No midi out or exportWanted to use this with my hardware ms-20 but no midi support out. Waste of money. Doesn't seem like Korg will add it. The arp and sequencer are very cool what a shame..Version: 1.6.6

Great expectations not met...yetI had great expectations for this synth...having bought lots of others from the App Store...I thought and hoped that getting one which replicates a blast from the past would wow me with a fantastic range of sounds, samples, tracks and effects. And, although I have a long way to go learn this synth...it would be nice to have a much bigger range of starter sounds, drums, tracks and effects..Version: 1.6.6

Bad investmentThis application is not useful at all. Dont Buy it its not worth the investment. No vst.. Nothing.Version: 0

Sound great but rendered useless without Ableton link.Over 2 years without an update with Ableton link when it was promised. If it had the link it would be getting more stars..Version: 1.6.6

Great app, needs an update.I really liked playing around with this app for hours on end. It was great sequencing sounds together to make a track and being able to warp drum sounds was fun. Currently doesn't work with iOS 7. Hopefully will by launch..Version: 1.6.2

Refuses to launchIt doesn't work at all on my ipad.Version: 1.5.0

Great sound but problems. theres betterMuch could be improved on here, much! Ive worked with much more complex software and synths and the features on this are lacking. Like you cant copy and paste patterns into another pattern, then edit the pattern. You have to manually redo the last pattern you were working on in next pattern, then edit it to make the change if building a song. Plus the worst thing, Ive already written korg about it, no response, and apple, no response, is it doesnt sync with airport. There is a 2 second delay when tweaking a knob so im basically stuck tweaking this through ipad speakers, not the best, nor the whole sound. And this, having only dealt with it a few days. Maybe im wrong, maybe i can find work arounds but at this point its more a pain than fun. But i will still dork and waste my time for now. But improvements could help make music, ie songs faster. And the no syncing is ridic especially since the ms 20 is made for apple, and airport is the device you would use to wirelessly run it through speakers! An actual synthesizer would be less trouble except then id be chained to wires and a computer and have to set it up. Was hoping this would be an ease back into making enjoyable music after a few years off. Time will tell but im not too impressed..Version: 1.6.0

Just okThere is no midi or inter app audio instrument support. This app is old and dusty. Korg's aversion to good midi support is disappointing..Version: 1.6.4

UPDATEY’all need to update this!! It sounds great and just needs the UI to be redone. It’s pretty hard to use with how it’s designed right now. Also maybe make a mode where you can just use the synth and not have all the groovebox stuff in the way which can get annoying, I just want the synth most of the time, groovebox is nice but when I just want the synth it gets in the way of me just creating sounds..Version: 1.7.3

KorgThis app is great if u know how to use it to its full potentual i have only had one problem and that is it use to play export songs on the ipad but for some reason it has stopped doing so.Version: 1.5.1

Still no Cubasis integration.I know you have to protect Gadget but please allow integration with Cubasis!.Version: 1.7.0

Ios8It doesn't work with ios8 yet hopefully there will be an update soon really good app when it works.Version: 1.6.3

Can no longer share or download sessionsSeems Korg has abandoned this nice app. There used to be awesome templates and shared sessions to collaborate on, but they've disabled or broken that crucial feature. You have to manually re-enter patches, patterns, songs, etc by hand. Just like the 70s! Ugh..Version: 1.6.6

No AB3 and very poor Midi OptionsIt’s virtually impossible to use a controller with this app other than the built in keyboard. You can’t send Midi to it, which is whole reason I bought it. Why is Korg so far behind the times..Version: 1.7.1

Why behind the times? So close...yet not quite there. Why can't you change the pitch of a sequence using the keyboard? Should be a basic feature but still missing. Midi connectivity, link, AB3, still behind the times. This is a great synth and potentially one of the best iOS music apps but you seem to have forgotten about it..Version: 1.6.6

Pluses and minuses, but mostly goodPluses: • Beautiful GUI. This iOS version has a much better GUI compared to the desktop AU/VST version. Nice icon too :-) • Compatible with the mini MS-20i USB controller keyboard (yes, you can do patching in this synth via the hardware controller). • Great/classic sound ability, x2 synths, and drum sounds. Minuses: • No Korg Gadget integration. • No IAA transport controls. This is a problem with ALL of Korg's apps. • Poor MIDI support, making this more of a standalone audio source, rather than an interactive performance synth. • Lousy sequencer for modern devices. It's fine to mimic old analog sequencers in software, for fun and certain sequencing styles, but not when that's the ONLY option on offer. iDS-10 makes iMS-20's sequencing look like childish, primitive, unusable garbage. iDS-10 and iMS-20 share so much in common that it might have been better for Korg to release an iDS-20 (merging the best of both worlds). • No polyphonic mode. The desktop MS-20 plugin supports polyphony, so there's no reason not to have it here as an option. • Fiddly controls. This is a problem with ALL of Korg's apps, especially Gadget. • No data exchange via email. • No data exchange at all (the Soundcloud integration is absolutely NOT acceptable for patch exchange)..Version: 1.6.6

Does not work on iOS8Does not work on iOS8.Version: 1.6.3

Two stars all day until Audio Units made. Logic Pro, game-change.Lovely instruments, but now Logic Pro has dropped on iPad M1 and similar iPad Pro tablets it’s a watershed moment. It’s time Korg, if you won’t jump into Audio Unit creation commitment now with the advent of iPadOS Logic Pro ported over, I suppose you never will. I’m not going to do the whole ‘Gadget’ proprietary route now, this has firmed up due to Apple’s monumental democratisation of pro music this year..Version: 1.7.6

Time to update this one KorgNeeds many new things such as Link support ....Version: 1.6.6
