✓ Drains Battery Too FastMy first test of Wikiloc was on a 7.5K hike. At the beginning of the hike, my iphone (6S+ v12.2) had 80% battery. Within an hour, the battery was down to 13%. No other apps were running. This tells me the app would be useless for navigating long hikes unless I have substantial portable power. Aside from that issue, the app works quite well for me. So well that I will buy a suitable power bank so it can run for a few more hours. For an all-day hike? No chance, it uses far too much power..Version: 3.9.2
✓ Offline maps dont work offlineI have my maps downloaded for use offline but when you open the app in a remote place it tells you you are offline and wont display the map you need..Version: 3.19.4
✓ Good, but not greatTried the free version which was very basic. Upgraded to premium which gives much more functionality and pinpoints you on the map. Two dealbreaker’s for me: 1. Very battery intensive; and, 2. No way to individually turn off alert just for an upcoming spot where a photo of the route was taken - so each time the alert sounds I assume I have gone off course (the alert is the same)..Version: 3.19.7
✓ Hard to use appI got this app to find cross country ski trails in Norway. It was very good at showing trails. However, it was not so good when I got to the trail and wanted to start following it. It didn’t seem able to recognise that I started midway through. It also seemed very keen on recording the trail over letting me know where I was and how to navigate, ie which way to go. I don’t have a good sense of direction, so orientation is important. I’m going to try another app and see if it is any better..Version: 3.17.6
✓ Room for improvementThe idea of this app is good but it could do better. The map feature is clunky and it is displayed without a scale ruler so distance is difficult to estimate. There doesn’t seem to be anyway to export your data into a personal log book. For example, I’d like to export my trails onto a csv file or load onto another map Platform. Who owns my route data? ✓ Useful but with serious limitationsYou cannot order your trails alphabetically so that if you have a long list of trails which includes different routes on the same trail, the trails will be far apart and be separated on the list. You cannot combine 2 different routes you have taken on the same trail into 1 combined trail. If you hike the same trail twice with 2 different routes, you have to leave them as 2 separate trails. You cannot edit trails to delete a portion of a trail (like a short wrong turn you took), manually add a portion to the trail or copy and paste a portion of a different route along the trail onto an original trail. These are basic intuitive functions that should haven built in from Day 1..Version: 3.19.1
✓ Needs more instructionI have sat here for HOURS trying to find information on the GR11. ALL trails are not in order and there appears to be no way to select people who have hiked the whole route, let alone see the stages in order. I can’t find how to translate the pages, the FAQ shows an icon on the bottom that my PREMIUM ACCOUNT does not show. HOURS have been spent trying to put together this route to only be staring at multiple peoples entries, all stirred up in different stages, diffeeent people, and even different routes!.Version: 3.7.0
✓ No syncThis app is a joke. There is no actual sync between the desktop and app even with the same login. I uploaded a trail route on the web to use later on my phone. I can’t see the map unless I make it public and leave it that way. I am not the one who recorded the route so I don’t want to leave it public. ✓ Issues with Garmin Fenix 6XPurchased premium subscription to use app with Garmin Fenix 6X. Unable to get watch connected to use with Wikiloc. Keep getting error “There is a problem getting you signed in!” No help documentation on this error. Looks to be Wikiloc account servers. Sent a help request in several days ago and no response. Tried uninstalling all Garmin and Wikiloc software and reinstalling, resetting, etc..Version: 3.8.14
✓ Some work to doCan’t map a route before setting off so rely on other people’s. The app sent us the wrong way on this. Would be useful if you could plot a route to follow as map regularly disappears when you are trying to use it. It is also very small as surrounded by unnecessary info which blocks access to the map. No distance info so largely guessing distance which is not helpful especially when where we were walking we lost gps for a time so made it difficult to navigate. This will no doubt be a useful app outside the UK and it is to an extent but needs some refinement to make it fully useful for proper walking. Would not use this in the UK as OS app really is very hard to beat..Version: 3.7.1
✓ Won’t download all walking tracks for offline useIt’s basic that all walking tracks from Open Street Map should download for offline use, but they don’t. Many people walk in remote areas where data is not available. This is the first map app I have seen that can’t download all Open Street Map tracks for use offline. ✓ IPadDescription says compatible with iPad but will not rotate into full screen when iPad tilted sideways. Bought this app for my utv but when iPad is in the mount which has to be sideways, the app is almost to small to see. You need to update this to make that work has I’m sure many others feel the same. ✓ Unreliable dataThis is not a criticism of the app but the whole Wikiloc platform in general. Crowd sourcing all this data and no moderation of the content leads to misleading information of tracks. People don’t take the time or have the pride to do things properly, so tracks are mislabelled and categorised wrongly. I look for 4x4 trails and come across so many trails marked Off-roading and they are on tarmac. There are 3 off-road 4x4 trails marked across the centre of London! Poor platform mostly let down by some idiots using it..Version: 3.8.1

✓ Brilliant but interface needs an upgradeThis app is indispensable for finding great hikes, the database is impressive and I've find a couple of hikes in my area (western Liguria, Italy) that I didn't know about. A necessary app when you go into the wild! You'll need to buy the navigation pack but that's absolutely worth it. The interface however needs upgrading: it's very old as based on the previous iOS, so it feels clunky and not sleek. The developers should upgrade this. Also, downloading the "Alps West" offline map is confusing, as when I open iT, either in a trail or in the app, it shows my location as being somewhere in France north of Nice while I'm clearly in Italy..Version: 2.7.9

✓ Too many junk routesLike the website you have to trawl through hundreds of copycat routes, badly named and poorly described. There’s no discrimination between good and bad routes. On the map download screen the satellite view with a map overlay appears and is navigable but then appears nowhere else in the app! Another major gripe is no obvious option to centre the map on current location when in the map view of the explore tab. ✓ Avoidable AppThis app defies logic. I wanted to try it first before paying for it. I dunno if all features are turned off in the free version, but if the experience I had with the free version is any indication avoid this at all costs. I wasted on entire hiking day thanks to this app. I got the app and downloaded a hiking path that someone provided along with the map. After reaching the start point, I was not able to pull up the map or trail as I was offline! Duh!!! So I drove half hour found WiFi got the map and without closing the app went back. I couldn’t find any logical way to “follow” the hike I had downloaded nor would it display my location in the map and after switching a few screens could not find the hiking trail as I was offline. Wow. Glad I did not pay any money. Has this developer heard of offline mode? Do they realize that cell service most likely does not exist in remote areas? ✓ Unethical payment practisesI received no reminder about the trial period ending and I was automatically charged the most expensive subscription, rather than being given the option to choose the subscription I wanted. The payment section can not be edited via the app either (or the wikiloc website) which makes it harder to change. Additionally, I tried to download offline a map but while it had saved onto my phone and had some features offline, the actual offline route was not available. ✓ Near useless w/o data governanceAn aesthetically pleasing app that is nearly useless as a trails guide. It might be OK for that one social trail somebody made in the middle of nowhere (which are probably not in keeping with Leave No Trace). For even a moderately popular hike though, expect to see dozens or more trail markers in clusters around parking and trailheads, for every single person who recorded the same exact hike and probably called it something different. The developers invoke the “Wiki“ title, but it’s more akin to every user creating creating their own wikipedia article for the same famous person, rather than multiple people maintaining the quality of the same article. I hope the developers will consider that quantity degrades quality, and consider a different approach to the governance of user-submitted data.Version: 3.9.4
✓ Trying to be goodI am a real user of this app for number of years. For starters, it has some very nice features but needs to improve substantially to be a great app. Without a network or Wi-Fi connection is amazing in finding the location and mapping the surroundings. It badly needs a sound reminder that I can set at home before reaching the trailhead that will beep every 5 minutes to remind me to turn the app on when I'm on the trail. I usually remember to turn the app on only after quite sometime I have started my hiking. The same thing for a pause. The app needs to beep remind me to turn itself back on again when I resume my walk. Perhaps by noticing my movement. ✓ Not what I was promisedPaid for a lifetime membership back on 2012 when nobody was barely using this app, and I did it to support the developer since I saw it was a new project from a Catalan developer which I wanted him to succeed. The issue is that ever since i paid for the lifetime subscription / membership, I’ve seen how many features have been added to Wikiloc and I’m being left out since they have created new tiers that won’t be included in the lifetime membership. Not sure that’s a great business model to send the message to the folks who supported this app since day 1 when nobody else would care for it. No app would make it this far without early supporters like myself. I hope th developer decides to give access early paid supporters of this app into the premium features keeping in mind we were the ones who gave this app support when it most needed it..Version: 3.11.2

If you only want to see what trails users have put in than it's fine (tho because users create the trail there are many repeats and not much info, similar to Mapmywalk). ✓ Great idea, GPS doesn’t work rightI was excited to use this app on a recent backpacking trip. There wasn’t a trail already listed, even though it was a popular backpacking route in the Sawtooths, so I was eager to give it a go and log the trip. However, the GPS was very off. In 7 minutes it said I had gone over two miles. I restarted the app a few times and each time it would say I had gone much rather than I actually had. ✓ Good Start but missing a key featureI just downloaded the app and started a hike. I really like your app for the AW, but one feature missing is the ability to create waypoints. I’ve looked all through the app and can’t find a way. When in the backcountry, the ability to mark waypoints is crucial, so I can’t become a subscriber until I have this ability. ✓ I would give this app a 5, except for 1 thingOk. Maybe two things. My main complaint is that all my trails upload as Public and I cannot find any setting to disable/change it. I’ve checked the settings on the web and in the app. When I first started using it, I forgot to stop the app after my ride and drove all the way home before I remembered. This happened a few times. I didn’t realize the trails were public until later, so anyone that could view my trails knew exactly where I lived. I now know to go in and manually change them to private. But doing so is a real PITA. Second issue was a bucket list trip to Colorado. I tried tracking our mountain trail rides, but the app kept failing. I believe it might have been due to poor signal in that area. It would have been nice to have had at least 1 of the rides mapped..Version: 3.17.6
