Guitar Techniques for Negative User Reviews

UTTER CRAPWithout the audio tracks from CD this is utterly useless to 99% of readers. To release the mag online without this shows an absolute disregard for your customers. SHAME ON YOU. SORT IT OUT..Version: 1.9

Great mag. Needs access to extra contentI guess it’s priced reasonably given you don’t have access to audio content that accompany the licks, techniques etc. would gladly pay extra if that content was available, it’s what makes the magazine a great learning tool..Version: 6.0.17

Slow to loadApp is Slow to load when using apple subscription.Version: 6.0.6

Needs updatingWritten content is good, same as hard copy content I guess, but there is no multimedia content, I.e. music and video. This is a music mag, selling on a device built for multimedia!!!!! I have bought a couple of editions, I would only subscribe if the multimedia content issue was fixed..Version: 2.0

Audio issuesWould be outstanding 5 stars but no sound during any video playback? Anyone else having same prob?.Version: 3.4.4

No CdAs far as I can tell there is no music to accompany the techniques demonstrated so you are better off just buying the magazine itself. I can't for the life of me understand how they thought the magazine would be of use without the music!!!!.Version: 2.0

No media, no pointI would love to switch to the PDF version and cancel my paper subscription. But for this magazine the cd mounted counted is essential . Maybe if they gave this away as a free sub to go with the paper version....Version: 1.9

No helpI cannot get help.Version: 6.0.17

FIX THE SOUND!Audio doesn't work reliably. Either it's fine or dead silence. Really frustrating. When it works it's great. That's a big if though. Please sort this out!.Version: 3.4.4

App hangs and no longer can access old magazinesApp hangs since IOS 11. Can’t read any magazines nor download new ones..Version: 4.9.5

Good but...Where is the cd?.Version: 1.9

Good Material, Poor DeliveryThere's a lot to like about this app, and a lot of great material, but the backing tracks don't work at all, and the tempo of the full performance tracks modified, which makes learning the riffs more difficult. Giving the user the ability to slow down the tracks would seem like a no-brainer for an app and magazine designed to teach techniques. Hopefully they'll update it at some point. But the failure of the backing tracks to load is a real problem they need to fix right away.Version: 4.4.1

Content is great. App is horribleApp always requires internet, even with download Ed content and is very slow and full of ads..Version: 6.4

Let DownI am glad I bought a single issue and not a complete subscription. All of the chords and riffs reference a cd where one can listen to the bit. This is a digital magazine; I should be able to click play and hear it right on my iPad. Kind of pointless really..Version: 1.0

Very, very disappointingI thought this would be like Guitarist magazine with audio content etc. Wish I could give it 0/5, and would really like a refund for this piece of con-artistry.Version: 1.9

Terrible on a small screenIt's just a screenshot of every page of the paper magazine, so very hard to use on the small screen of my iPhone. Constantly zooming and scrolling is not really a good user experience. Glad I just got some free issues first to try out and didn't pay for it..Version: 2.2.5

Guitar TechniquesI've bought 2 magazines. The first magazine I have no complaints about, but the second issue I bought wouldn't play back most of the audio clips I was interested in which renders it a waste of money. When the clips do play back it's better than the actual paper magazine !.Version: 3.8.1

Wow!A while back I wrote: "Is there any way to include sound files? That would be awesome!" Well, I now feel the best just got better! I just downloaded the latest issue complete with sound files! I now purchased a subscription. What a great magazine. Side note: I am really enjoying the Joe Pass feature. Thanks for including jazz! Great job all around. Thanks so much!.Version: 2.1

No soundAudio doesn't work and my volume is up. On the website it condescendingly tells you if you have no sound it's because your sounds muted, so I assume others have mentioned it. Other than that the apps ok. I would like it to open on the library page rather than the store but that's something I can put up with. The magazine itself is a fine magazine..Version: 4.4.1

No music availableLittle point in subscribing to the iPad edition until music tracks are available..Version: 2.0

Great mag, butKeeps crashing under iOS 14.Version: 6.0.6

This is NOT a free app nor is it an older issue you can browse.Beware, this app is most certainly NOT free. All you get is a so called 'preview' of the latest issue. This is nothing more than low quality photos of pages in the latest issue. If you want to read anything you will have to pay per copy. You certainly can't read anything to see if its worth paying for the download. Judging by other reviews the audio side of things is flawed so what's the point? I'll be sticking with buying the magazine from the newsagent until Future Publishing sort this mess out..Version: 2.1

Poor substituteNo access to the videos or the cd tracks - a poor show indeed. I want my money back..Version: 1.9

No audio!!!!!Very disappointed with this. If you're going to do an iPad version of a magazine that has a cover mounted CD then you'd think they'd incorporate the audio element actually into the iPad magazine. Come on, it's obvious and would be brilliant..Version: 1.8

DittoThere were three one star reviews which now appear to have been removed and all had the same comments regarding this version of GT. Very little point without music to accompany the tabs, however I for one would pay extra to have an e-mag complete with music.Version: 2.0.2

Fix the appI can't even open my downloads. My advice is don't get it. Huge disappointment. Great mag, lousy app..Version: 4.9.5

Some Good, Some Not So GoodWithout access to CD content, I wouldnt bother. Also, they need to review the classical/country stuff, seriously Debussy? I know it is an attempt to broaden appeal, but perhaps. digital readers should be able to vote on the magazine sections. Just a thought..Version: 2.2.5

Good, but needs moreGT is by far the best guitar magazine out there (IMHO), but offering this edition without audio and without a chance for print subscribers (like me) to get it without cost (or with minimal cost) strikes me as very odd indeed. I hear that improvements are on the way, so I will keep watching..Version: 1.9

Wasted opportunityThis app is no more than a screenshot of each of the pages in the magazine. The opportunity to bring those pages to life - interactive navigation, sounds to accompany the examples etc - has not been taken and without the equivalent of the CD which accompanies the printed copy this is a massive step backwards. I can't think of any reason why anyone would subscribe to this. Make it truly interactive and perhaps then you'll tempt new subscribers as well seeing some of your print media subscribers migrating..Version: 1.2

No CD tracks availableReally disappointing...you should at least be able to stream the tracks from the cd if you're online. Major fail..Version: 1.2

Needs better search functionI have bought the paper and disc version of GT since I started playing guitar in 1994 and it's always a great resource. I recently took up an offer to buy the entire digital back catalogue (63 issues going back nearly 5 years). This is a great deal and I do love the digital format for convenience. My big gripe though is the poor search capability and lack of a simple contents summary for each issue. I used to have my favourite paper issues and came to know the covers and contents off the top of my head. I shouldn't have to do that with digital content though - a contents page in text with the ability to search by genre, artist and title would make this a real winner. As it is, it can be painful trying to find a transcription without downloading entire issues. Fix this one limiting factor and I would happily bump up to 5 stars. The same also applies for the Total Guitar app which has the exact same issue..Version: 4.4.1

Half bakedSuch a shame, a great opportunity to bring the magazine into the digital domain only to release it without the audio! It just acts like a negative advertising campaign. You only have yo look at the reviews so far to show that this was a mistake. Please get the audio sorted ASAP. By advertising this app in the printed magazine you are pointing customer to these negative reviews. Mad - fixing this should be your top priority..Version: 2.0.2

Not as goodNot as good as printed edition. Can only play audio when online. CD was better - you could it into phrase training player. It would be better if the audio could be converted into MP3 and then you could play tracks on your phone's looper. Also - it would be better to have transcriptions of actual tracks rather than lessons 'in the style of' - as in earlier editions. I've bought Guitar Techniques from issue 1 and it's not as good. Neither is the digital version as good as the printed..Version: 3.8.3

BrokenI am a paid subscriber and i updated to the latest version. My subscription has been lost. Ive written to ask for help and was ignored. The current issue, i do not have, as Ive paid for it, but cant access it. Even if they do fix it, one day, their service s abyssmal..Version: 3.6

App does not work if you purchased digital through any other vendorGarbage. Bought a digital download through Zinio. The zinio reader will not play audio examples. Even though I subscribe to this magazine, I can’t use the zinio subscription on this app. Will never be able to utilize audio examples. Bitter disappointment. Avoid this app and this company..Version: 5.2.2

Good mag, horrible appI am sooo tried of trying to download an issue, it hangs, then I have to go though all of the trouble of deleting the app, turning off the app, reinstalling to get to it, and even then it sometimes hangs. Just not worth the trouble after a while..Version: 3.8.1

Freezes and crashes when turning pages.I love this magazine and the fact that there's audio built into the digital edition is great. However, every time I go to turn a page, the magazine freezes mid turn and then crashes. It's really annoying and I won't subscribe until this issue is fixed..Version: 3.2.1

No CD?!?!This is no more than a curiosity until the 'covermounted extras' are available. Why would anyone part with the same money as for the print copy (including CD) when the lack of extras makes it mostly useless? Comment from the publisher welcome ....Version: 1.2

Clunky and crashy going back to the magazineAdd 15/20 minutes to your guitar practising schedule while you wait, wait, reboot, wait and reboot, and wait a bit more to get up a lesson which will inevitably crash. May not be all GT's fault as Apple's many updates of my iPad Air haven't helped but GT needs to keep on top of this. The content is great, the app.....not great. Doubt if you'll ever see this review though..Version: 4.6

Magazine great, App annoyingThe magazine is great, but that you have to download you purchases every time you update the app is super annoying..Version: 3.8.3

Guitar TechniquesSame problem, no sound. Tried deleting and reinstalling, switching off and on again, no joy. Wrote to the App support, initial "we will get back to you", nothing since. Guitarist iPad version very good, Guitar Techniques waste of money. Such a shame..Version: 2.1

Great Look, no audio.....This magazine looks great on iPad, but it is hard to try to use the magazine to learn from because the audio is not available for the examples. The hard copy magazine has a CD included to play along with. Change this and it's definitely a 5 star app!.Version: 1.8

Paid but no magazineOnce again.Version: 6.0.17

Buggy app - crashes when opening old editionsAs above. I've unsubscribed because of how many times it's crashed. Tried again with the latest version and nothing's changed. Content is good, however..Version: 3.8.1

Great content; So-so appI'm a huge fan of the content available on this app, but the program itself is nothing special. The interface is about like any other mediocre magazine app, but the content makes using it worth the effort..Version: 3.6

RubbishHow hard can it be to embed the mp3 tracks into this, what's the point of having an instructional mag without the teaching aid!!!!! Until this is sorted I won't be wasting my hard earned dosh on this. GT.Version: 1.9

Missing the pointWith the print edition, you get a CD full of backing tracks and other additional content. It's this additional content that makes the magazine such a useful learning tool. Unfortunately, it's missing from the app. Until they work it out, forget about it..Version: 1.6

Doesn’t play well with others and bookmarks are horribleGreat to have access to the back catalogue of GT and the high quality tutorials that have always been a huge part of the magazine. The video element is embedded and works well. This app could be so amazing but the downsides below render it almost unusable to me. Having paid for the entire digital back catalogue it is beyond frustrating how clunky the app is. Major problems I have had are listed below. Downsides: The bookmark system is a mess, it’s impossible to sort them out into any system, and the preview pages are so tiny you can’t tell what bookmark you’re aiming for - they are sorted by issue title (why??) but with no discernible order (neither issue number or when you bookmarked them or anything) so if you have bookmarked many lessons good luck finding them again as they’re not sortable into published date or any other system. When in bookmark mode it doesn’t go from bookmark to bookmark, instead just continuing the issue in which the bookmark was found. Surely making personalised list of bookmarks with folders and subtitles would be easy and make the whole app more immeasurably more usable and appealing. Also a mode where you just browsed through your bookmarks without pause, so you could in effect have a private collection of favourite lessons. These things would be so simple to implement and I can’t understand why they’re not standard features The worst bug in my opinion is that every time you minimise the app it seems to need to reacquire your purchases and verify itself - this takes about 10-15 seconds on my iPad Pro sometimes and this occasionally happens even if you don’t leave the app. Page turns when you’re flicking through a magazine seem to trigger it quite often. Good luck if you’re using something like AmpliTube to play into your iPad while browsing the app - every time you make a change to your sound it seems like you lose your page and it redirects you to the front page of the app. Basic interactions with other apps are a mess. It’s a shame that for the lack of a few features and presence of some bugs the app is so compromised. I would save your money and get a guitar pro premium membership instead where the app is a triumph instead of a trial..Version: 5.6.3

Unreadable previewsCheck out the Cooking Light app, now! While not perfect, there one thing that sets this app millions of miles above the rest. FULL PAGE SAMPLES!!! Because it doesn't have the micro-view offered by Zino and other Newsstand apps you can actually SEE what an issue offers. You almost want to buy every issue, matter of fact I'm getting a subscription! Imagine-FX, Guitar Techniques, Official Xbox Magazine, Zino and Future Publishing, pay attention and see how it's done right. Bravo Cookling Light Magazine! Who would think to take a great magazine like Guitar Techniques and put it in an app that is unreadable? The blurry cover and Table Of Contents offers no temptation to purchase the magazine or get subscriptions. So you are left with searching for the issue online in hopes of finds a clear description of what is being offered that month. Too much work! Low tech app for a high tech mag. What a shame!.Version: 4.2.901

Ok but.....No cd or mp3 to accompany the music so you basically have no idea what your learning. I agree with the other guys it could be more interactive instead of just literally the page copy straight on a little iPhone screen. I would subscribe if these issues were dealt with for sure!!.Version: 1.2

Horrible customer supportBarely half of the "enhanced" issues' sound files actually work. Wrote to customer support several times and have not heard anything back. Garbage!.Version: 3.8.1
