Piano Notes! - Learn To Read Music for Positive User Reviews

RecommendThis method is surprisingly effective. Not only do you immediately get feedback if you've made a mistake saving you hours of time going back to check your answers using conventional methods, but also adds a time limit element that forces you to make fast decisions for a higher score. It's working extremely well..Version: 1.6

Amazing for beginnerI'm in a piano class and am trying to learn to read sheet music and recognize notes faster and this app is perfect! I spend about 20 minutes a day practicing or while I'm bored between classes and I have been improving really fast!.Version: 1.5

Great for learning to sight readJust the job - helps to learn very effectively.Version: 1.6

Just what the doctor orderedForgot I had this app Just started to learn piano, never used Base Cleff. Brilliant App for learning it Not seen anything like it. Kind Regards Mick.Version: 1.8

Looks awful, but otherwise purr-fectThe developers won't win a prize for design or innovation, with their hideous painted cats on the title screen or their level screens stolen from Angry Birds (with three stars for each level), but I'm addicted to this app, and my music reading skills are improving each time I play, so... Must be doing something right..Version: 1.1

Great!Great!.Version: 1.6

A great start!“Piano Notes!” shows you about an octave and a half of keyboard at a time. Sometimes treble clef and sometimes bass clef. It progresses into accidentals and key signatures. The keyboard gives you a “middle c” reference. When you see a note on the staff, you must press the correct key – not just the correct name, but also in the correct octave. It does more. Very clear. Graphics look good on iPad and iPhone. I bought this to help my granddaughter. My experience: professional (reading) musician for over 40 years..Version: 1.6

Great App!Wish to be able to track high score......Version: 1.6

Better than expectedJust paid 99 cents for this app. Initially I thought I'd be wasting it but to my surprise it has a nice format for learning. I eventually want to be able to read sheet music so I can start to learn an instrument . Also, as stupid as it may sound , I sometimes need a goal like an end point or score to achieve in order to stay focused when learning something as dry as sheet music. The game format helps me stay attached but unlike other games I'm benefitting from this particular attachment..Version: 1.6

Awesome little app!Great little game that secretly makes you learn! A definite must-have for anyone that has ever touched a piano, or even heard one! Basically, fun for everyone!.Version: 1.1

PianoTeacherI am using this app with students at the end of second term and older. The only app which uses middle C as the base reinforcing that each note has a corresponding key. Now if the range of notes could be established by the instructor younger students could develop along with the app..Version: 1.7

Great app to learn notesSuper fun.Version: 1.5

AwesomeImproved my ability to read music significantly in a few days..Version: 1.7

For people serious about learning to sight read pianoFun and extremely effective.Version: 1.7

Does the job!As a non musician, trying to pick up the very basics of tapping a few notes on the piano, this app is doing a great job. It's reliable, smooth, and satisfying to use..Version: 1.1

Please update the app for real pianoThis piano notes app is wonderful. Its just what I was looking for. Is there any chance that you update the app to do the next? I put the ipad on the real piano, the note pops in the ipad screen and then i have to play the note in the piano, your app listen the played note with the embeded microphone of the ipad and then the app rate if you played the right or the wrong note... Can you do this? Hope yes... Congrats sorry for my english.Version: 1.1

It help me lotsThis is all new to me and wanted this cuz I am learning a lot of new instruments now. I like it. Highly recommend if you need a little help learning how to read music. Good luck :).Version: 1.6

So far so goodI wanted to brush up on my music theory and this is a great place to start!.Version: 1.8

AmazingJust what I need to help me with sight reading!.Version: 1.6

Makes learning to read music funI've been a "play by ear" musician for many years, but using this app actually makes me want to learn to read music again. I like that an actual piano keyboard is used to play the notes you see, so it translates instantly into knowledge you can apply on the piano. Well done, simple yet perfectly executed app!.Version: 1.0

Very usefulHelps to recognise written keyboard notes. Showed this to my piano teacher - most impressed! No good for learning to read music but it doesn't say that it does that. Would recommend this to anyone but particularly to beginners - it will definitely help..Version: 1.7

Perfect drill for learning and memorizing!Exactly what I needed to try and get the bass cleft down. I got the treble, but then to learn the bass notes, marks in the same positions, but that indicate different notes, ack! And great price! Would love to see some instruction on best practices on how to use the app, but so far figuring it out. Thanks!!.Version: 1.6

PerfectI've been looking for this. More rewarding than flash cards. What apps are made for, taking it to the next level. Associate notes on the scale to keys on the piano. Great supplement to lessons to get sight-reading..Version: 1.2

AmazingThis is the best app ever for learning music-- for the first time in many years of trying to learn music notation I have succeeded. Try it you won't be disappointed..Version: 1.5

Awesome Sight Reading App!This app blew me away. I needed something to help me with sight reading music; I was terrible at it. After downloading, this app had me addicted! It made sight reading fun without dumbing it down. Definitely worth buying. I use it constantly. Well designed..Version: 1.7

I am addicted alreadyI checked about 6 apps (actually paid a fee) before I found what I needed. I am improving my music reading skills very rapidly. Many apps will only have you relate the notes with their name which is not very helpful for playing on an instrument. Totally worth .99 and even more. Please continue developing to include tunes, instructions, and note guides for those who are not familiar with them at all and need a hand starting..Version: 1.6

Perfect!I was looking for something to help my son practice his notes while being timed. He has a great ear, so he doesn't read the music. This will help him get his notes down. Thanks for developing this great tool!.Version: 1.6

Fun-Filled, Sequential LearningPiano Notes! – Learn to Read Music is fun, and it very effectively extends the note-reading skills that were taught and practiced in Notes! – Learn to Read Music. I especially like the fact that Piano Notes provides: 1. carefully sequenced, guided practice of eight key signatures, in both the treble and the base clefs; 2. visual and auditory reinforcement of correct answers; 3. a fun-filled game mode (joystick icon) that allows you to succeed at different levels..Version: 1.1

Brilliant! Finally a fun drill on sight reading.Fun way to build skills..Version: 1.7

Great app! This is the best app I've downloaded to learn to read music. Covering both treble and bass clefs, makes it a wonderful learning tool for sight reading. Also the ability to work up steadily through higher levels to learn their flats and sharps in the given keys. Love it!.Version: 1.1

Helps correct old mistakesAs a kid I was taught piano and I memorized middle c very well, but as I went on, my instructors never emphasized learning the higher ranges past that. As years went by I learned to play by ear and also how to watch people play and copy movements. As I am 20 years old i cannot sight read, this app has helped my recognition significantly, just by repeating the first level! Wonder app, worth the money!.Version: 1.7

Loving it!I'm finally, after 62 years, getting to learn piano and to read music. This little app is way easier for me to use than paper in learning to read music/memorize notes locations, especially because I don't have the piano with me when traveling and I don't need to bring anything along except my phone. I am figuring out as I learn the notes that the way to get happy faces is not just to get 100% - the app seems to know how long it takes me to figure out each note. So speed seems to be rewarded, which makes me want to practice more (so the more I do it I'm truly learning to know the notes rather than having to calculate each one as in Every Good Boy...) I am loving having this always with me..Version: 1.6

A good next step up from Notes!Good step up from the plain Notes! app I have been using from the same developer. Would be nice if there were a brief help/instruction page, which a lot of other apps need and do not have...but all in all it has been good so far for practice away from the piano for note/key recognition..Version: 1.1

Perfect for piano beginnersExtremely helpful with practicing sight reading. It’s perfect for anyone who wants some extra practice with reading notes..Version: 1.8

Very useful!I have struggled with learning notes for 20 years - this helps.Version: 1.6

Add instructions, I'd give it 5 stars, maybe 10Background: I am a total piano/music reading n00b at age 55. This app is fun, frustrating, and very helpful, all at the same time. Some sort of explanation of the different games, levels, etc. would be VERY welcome. For example, why do I get a frownie face with 87% accuracy one time, and a smiley the next time? And what order should I try the games in, or should I rotate? If you are starting from scratch as I did, make sure you know (or can figure out) the locations of the notes (letters vs. keys) on the piano before attempting this app...start with the easier app by the same folks, and/or have a cheat sheet handy. (You can get an excellent, large, printable free chart of the notes & piano keys at dummies dot com.) I highly recommend this app; it is a bargain, and, most importantly, it will help you learn to read music. With some instructions, it would be just about perfect..Version: 1.6

Luv it,A great app for me, everything I wanted in practicing the notes..Version: 1.8

Best app ever!!!This really helped with sight-reading! So great. Love the format. Usually sight-reading apps are not very good but this one...WOW! Best app ever.Version: 1.8

Great little AppOnly downloaded this a couple of days ago and it's already made a big difference in my ability to recognise bass clef notes. Started playing the piano after a long lay off. Didn't get that far the first time really. Was having real difficulty with the bass clef notes when reading both lines at once. A couple of days using this app has made an amazing improvement in my ability to pick up the bass clef notes quickly.Version: 1.7

Best app ever for learning to read notesI have hundreds (thousands?) of apps and this by far is the the best piano related app that I have found for learning to read notes. I especially like the timer mode. The levels get more difficult, additng new key signatures and accidentals. Thanks so much for this app- I am coming along in my note reading much faster now that I am using this one...Version: 1.7

Excellent excercises which cannot fail to improve sight readingA little more explanation might help. Once I realised that pausing was worse than a bad note I got better results. I went through the whole thing getting mainly two stars and then revised and am picking up three stars. It would be nice to know if a perfect, fast round got the gold cup symbol but I have to improve before finding out! We have a Bechstein at our www.demontaltwood.co.uk b&b. It's much easier to take the ipad to bed than the Piano. Its also really nice to be able to keep practising "on the go". This is an excellent ap..Version: 1.6

36 and just starting out with musicPerfect for me to practice any quick moment that the kids are otherwise occupied. Or when on hold, on the bus, etc etc.Version: 1.6

A great tool! This app has been a great tool for moving forward in learning to read music. It is easy to use and thorough. Well, it's easy to use, once you get past the darn cats. It does need a small help panel, or some kind of brief explanation. However, the email response from the programmer was extremely fast and clear. Thanks very much..Version: 1.7

App is goodBut sometimes notes is not sound clear, and first melody when app start is playing without main sound off or not. If I don't like to hear voice, it's not good. Also a good solution no just choice notes, but play simple melody (and play this melody before start training) for children's more interesting to go follow melody..Version: 1.5

Love it 🎶This app is great, the different modes allow you to pace yourself (good for practice w/ real piano) or be challenged (good practice when away from piano). There's no instructions, but it's very self-explanatory. Thanks for this helpful tool, loved it. 😊👍.Version: 1.7

GoodNice and simple. Is really helping me to learn the notes on the stave and the piano..Version: 1.2

Fantastic!Great for children, adults, and everyone in between. Very fun, and very helpful..Version: 1.6

Works well.I have definitely seen an improvement in my note identification since using this app. I do wish however, that there were some instructions and (or) options. This is the only app I own that has none at all..Version: 1.6

Really usefulAn easy way to improve your keyboard recognition skills.. A well designed app that can benefit all beginner pianists. I use this with my students. Recommended..Version: 1.7

Please bring back the cat iconC'mon it's nice when things have character!.Version: 1.7

Music teacherI am a music teacher who works with younger children. This is the best tool I have found to teach the reading of notes in both major clefs. This app blows flash cards out of the water!.Version: 1.1

Basic but worksGood: 3 different modes, exercise progression is good, star system, uncluttered interface To improve: Add some explanatory notes, add sound.Version: 1.7

Brill appI have been looking for a way to practice reading music. This is great, picking it up very quickly with this app.😃.Version: 1.6

Wow!J'ai chercher longtemps une facon simple pour apprendre les notes et cet app est excellent! Felicitations!.Version: 1.7

Really Works! When I started out learning the bass cleft notes I had a mere 55% accuracy. After 15 or so minutes of playing my accuracy improved to 86%. It did get easier the longer I practiced. Then my brain started to hurt and I had to quit for a while. :).Version: 1.7

Getting Fluency in Musical Note ReadingThis inexpensive app really helps in learning the musical notes because students have a portable unit that is fun to use. With the sound turned on it can also help with ear training. (The Kittens on the Piano decoration is sweet too.).Version: 1.6

Great for intermediate learnersFUN.Version: 1.8

ImpressedI have never given a review before. This is not because I don't have any apps. I have more than enough. But this application for beginning to intermediate music students is excellent. I only gave 4 stars because I have not had the opportunity to even begin to use all of the different levels. This is truly a five star application. The only thing I hope they add is training modules for the different chords . People more familiar than myself know what I mean when talking about the "wheel of chords". It would be great if they had the different inversions e.g. C major...CEG-EGC-GCE. The truth of the matter is that this app may have it already but I do not think they do. If not it is a really easy fix and if enough people request I am sure they will. At that point the app would be an all in one. Just like they advertise over time this app accomplishes automatic recognition of key rather than memorization and it goes about this in a manner that is fun, challenging and more interesting than old school. I could go on and on but enough said I love this app..Version: 1.1

Great appFantastic way to learn. Gentle progression from basics to different keys..Version: 1.6

Very good for sight readingI was in search for a good app to help me learn to sight read, and this one looked like the best ont he App store right now. I enjoy the star system as it gives me something to work towards...which I obviously need as I can only get two stars on lesson 1 and one on lesson 2..Version: 1.5

Simple and effectiveI learn really quickly with this app. It is a great improvement over a short perod. Thank you!.Version: 1.5

Great for beginners!Simple to use and very effective!.Version: 1.6

Morticia7Excellent! Trying to teach myself how to read music and this app is just the 'tool' I need!.Version: 1.6

Great app!I played trombone as a kid, and I could remember a few notes on the bass clef and knew 'face' for the treble clef. That was all I needed to get started. After a few runs w this, I'm getting pretty good at associating notes on the staff w notes on the piano. It has been a big help!.Version: 1.6

It worksA couple of hours playing with this and I can pick out notes more quickly than after a year of piano lessons...Version: 1.5

Exactly what I need, nothing I don't.For less than a dollar, this app can't be beat. I was looking at spending about $15 on some music note flashcards to help with sight reading. This makes it a fun and challenging game that can be played all alone. Highly recommended to all parents with kids in piano lessons..Version: 1.7

Great gameI really enjoyed this and I found it incredibly helpful. It might have been a little better if the beginning levels were a little easier, maybe starting with just a few notes, like F,A,C,E rather than the whole trebble clef. This is however one of the best learn music games on the app store 🎶 In the later levels there are some issues with where the flats show on the clef which was a little confusing.Version: 1.6

PerfectI took piano lessons when in 4th grade, learned the meaning of the notation and played some basic songs like "lightly row". Moved on from piano lessons but kept up my love affair with the keyboard preferring to play by ear and becoming so good that most of my adult jobs have involved this skill. Knowing that not everyone can play by ear, but everyone can learn to read, I thought it time to bear down and get fluent in reading music. I was thrilled to find and more thrilled to begin using this perfect app. Learning as a game is always best. In two days I am well on my way to marrying my skill in piano with the notes that have huddled in the wings waiting to become part of my skill set. Thank for this simple and powerful app!!.Version: 1.6

Fun and helpful!App works beautifully! I am working on my bass clef note memorization and this is very helpful. I can take it everywhere an instrument cannot go! I also emailed the developer and received a response to my (silly) question within a day. 5 stars!.Version: 1.6

Great idea!! Great app!!A great way to combine fun and educational value. With this app you can learn to fluently read music notes in a playful, fun and simple way, especially for kids. The different ways to challenge you to improve are a nice way to keep you motivated and having fun. Worth it! Thanks for this app!.Version: 1.0

It worksI have learned lots of the basics with this app. Thanks!.Version: 1.5

Does exactly what it says on the tinSimple and fun. Allows you to iteratively develop and see yourself getting better, which is what you need to stay interested..Version: 1.6

PerfectDoes what u need, leaning properly in a fun way with a comp element. This is great, just what I needed. Thank you..Version: 1.6

Highly recommendVery Useful...my sight reading has improved every day.Version: 1.6

Great App!Only had it a few hours and it's already improved my note reading. Love the app :).Version: 1.6

Very happy with this app. This is an awesome app if you already know most notes but want to become faster and better. I have always known basic theory but wanted to improve my knowledge of notes and improve my sight reading. User-friendly layout and even has a timer so you can become faster at reading notes and beat previous scores. I use this on the go as one of my daily exercises. 5 stars..Version: 1.7

Really helpfulLayout is good, easy to use etc. Most importantly, I haven't played much piano in the past few years and this is really helping me get my sight reading up to scratch! I'm sure it'd be a helpful tool for someone just starting to learn how to sight read as well..Version: 1.7

Good stuffI really like this. It does improve your ability to read the stave. I am using it to eliminate the delay of thinking of 'every green bus etc' and to learn to associate each note with a key..Version: 1.6

Reading music made fun & challenging.Best way to engage my kids and go head to head competition.Version: 1.6

Enjoy itI have learned a lot and enjoy the timed program.Version: 1.8

Great app to learn notes. Please update it for iPhone 5 screen though..Version: 1.7

Wonderful programFor years I've struggled with my sight reading and I always thought I had little musical aptitude, but since getting this program a few days ago, I've been astounded at how much easier music reading is. I've spent so much time trying to memorize which notes correspond to each line, to very little effect, but the simple interface and straightforward approach of this program has really helped me learn to read music. I generally spend five minutes with the program a few times throughout the day, and that kind of short but frequent repetition makes a huge difference. I wish I'd had something like this when I started playing music in middle school band!.Version: 1.7

Very helpfulI am an adult learning to play the piano. This app is a tremendous aid in learning the corresponding note-key relationship. The instant feedback is like having a personal tutor. Success in fluency comes from acquiring both speed and accuracy, and this app helps the student achieve both. A minor quirk... I would, however, like a little more explanation or clarification on the menu controls (what do the "switch", "recycle" and "clock" represent?)..Version: 1.5

FUN! EFFECTIVE! ADDICTIVE!Reading notes was painful and boring, until I started using this app. Now i'm a better rounded musician for $1 😝. I love it. Don't be cheap and cough up a buck for a good teacher in your pocket. This app is worth way WAY more..Version: 1.1

Great note reading practiceThis app is really great for practicing your note reading ability..Version: 1.7

Great App!!!I just downloaded this app today and I'm already addicted. I have been wanting to learn how to read notes ever since my first exposure to them as a child. This app gives me the tools I need to go on my way and it allows me to learn at my own pace. So far I love this app and would recommend it to anyone with an interest in music..Version: 1.6

Way cool!!! Typing tutor for the piano! This is the app I have been waiting for. I need to learn to read music and could not do it with just playing music. Now I have an app that will just drill me on playing the correct note on the staff. Thanks Pete.Version: 1.5

Just what I was looking forI wanted an app that would help me learn the notes and that had an on-screen keyboard. This is perfect. You’re scored for accuracy and speed and can keep trying until you get all 3 stars. I think you need a basic understanding of the layout of a piano keyboard and staves (so perhaps not a good choice for your first ever intro to learning the piano) but this is really excellent for drilling once you have a basic knowledge..Version: 1.8

Great app and fun!Very helpful.Version: 1.1

AwesomeThis app has helped me quickly be able to read music faster. Makes a huge difference and it is fun too!.Version: 1.6

I like it! :)I found this app rather useful not only for beginners. It's a good memory training, too. But I can't find how to reset the results to discover new levels one by one. My conclusion: the app is good. I gave it 5 stars. And the little kittens are so cute! :))).Version: 1.1

Great AppJust what I was looking for thank you!.Version: 1.6

Works Great and really helpsThese flash cards are a great way to work on sight reading music. I am bad on the bass clef and this has helped me sight read much better. These great exercises can be incorporated into a practice routine for a few minutes each day. You do need to keep an eye out for the shaded middle C as the keyboard needs to move when the exercises change from treble to bass clef..Version: 1.7

Piano Teacher's DreamI've had my iTouch for a year, and am constantly looking for a good sight reading app. I have all the good ones that have come out in 2011, but this tops them all! It is a really well thought out, pedagogically correct learning tool. I plan on getting the previous one for my beginners, but this one will definitely be used at late beginner & intermediate lessons! In addition to this the developer's support is timely and excellent. I got a detailed answer to my question in one day. This is a bargain for $.99! If you are teaching or learning GET IT!!!.Version: 1.1

Best note learning tool available!I am a piano teacher. I have looked at many note learning apps and this one is the best. I occasionally use it during lessons and have had several of students buy it to use on their own. Making the app like a game makes this more interesting for my students. Thanks so much for creating this app!.Version: 1.6

I can't imagine something better. It's challenging. It loads quick. Moves quick. Plays the right notes and is pretty smart. Mixing bass and treble together in one test..Version: 1.5
