SkybrarySo Perfect!.Version: 2.3.5

Fabulous program - issues with every versionOur kids love this program and use it at least 3 times a week. Our only issue is that each time there is an upgrade, we lose access to the program for a time until bugs are fixed. This round of upgrades means we cannot access any islands or read any books..Version: 2.1.0

No Reading RainbowI was hoping, when we got this app, that it would contain all the classic bits like Toothpaste Millionaire from Reading Rainbow - where most of us know Levar Burton from. Sadly, due to legal disputes, he can no longer post that content and Reading Rainbow itself has no content to speak of. I would have loved to share with our kids some of these stories from my childhood. That said, the app has loads of books and videos. Kids can read or have stories read to them. I originally tried to access the Skybrary from my PC through my browser with my daughter and just about nothing worked properly- hence the missing star. The books would not open and it crashed repeatedly. Everything so far works as it should on the iPads..Version: 2.3.4

The bestThis is the best book app out there. My kids and I love it!.Version: 2.3.1

My kids love it!I have had this app for a little over a year, and the subscription is well worth the money. I live in an area with a limited supply of physical childrens books, and the Skybrary has me and my family covered. I read one to two stories from this app when I put my kids to bed most evenings. My son, who can't quite read yet, will sit with the app and make up his own story as he flips through the pages. I have found only one issue thus far. Often, when turning off the audio to the book it will disable touching the interactive sections on the page and turning the page by sliding. I'll have to close the book and reopen it again to get it to work. This happens on both my iPad Air and my wife's iPad 4. Other than that, it's a great app..Version: 1.10.5

CountryRavenThe Reading Rainbow app requires a subscription. I buy the six month subscription for about 5 bucks a month. It does feel steep, but I've had the app since early in its release and I have really appreciated the service for my five-year old. They have expanded it greatly over time. The partnership with National Geographic for Kids was an especially great addition. There is a wide array of both fiction and non-fiction books. These are real books by popular authors, not rehashed public domain stories. Kids can have the books read to them, or can read them on their own. There are simple, interactive animations in many of the books. There are also short videos to stream from Reading Rainbow episodes. My five-year old is a fan. While I still prefer putting real books in my kids hands, Reading Rainbow is a traveling library that is great for trips away, car rides, and those nights when I need a little help through the three-book bed-time routine. It is also great when I see him open the app on his own and browse the library to choose his own books and videos. Kids do earn stickers for reading books. My kid loves the stickers, but I feel this part of the app is pretty poorly implemented and does not utilize the medium creatively enough. In the end, though, it isn't about the stickers, it is about reading and learning..Version: 1.9.2

Very Good!Like a library on my kids iPad. Little on the pricey side, but worth it so far..Version: 1.10.3

Just as awesome today...If you are looking for the perfect app for your child, this is it. This app combines books, videos and games in this absolutely PACKED interactive app. I subscribed for a full year, simply because I didn't want to have to limit my son and I...we will use it, a lot! Get your child interested in reading today!.Version: 1.10.2

Best value for my child's educationThis app is $50 a year and I would easily pay more. My children sometimes spend two or more hours a day reading books could I ask for anything more? Hundreds of books at their disposal plus movies - this is a great app. If your children have a birthday I would recommend asking for this as their gift or ask your family to chip in to make this their Christmas gift..Version: 1.10.5

Go anywhere be anything!!!I grew up in this show, and when I heard it was coining back I was super excited. I read the other reviews and thought I would chime in. My two nephews and I love this app. We read the books together (unless LeVar is the voice of the auto reader!) then we find videos we can watch that are the same subject of the books. (Eli, 2 years old, likes the Honest Abe video because their is a scarecrow in it. Ethan 7 years old, is really into the dragon books, because I read and he gets to make the pictures animate when he touches the screen) it's amazing to get to share my childhood with my nephews. I love the animation, the many islands full of books. There are pieces of the original episodes! I know people seem frustrated with no being able to view the books offline, but even with that minor flaw, the app is worth it. I am not a technical guru... but I can say bed time stories have become a must in our house hold and I'm so happy with this service! (Ethan wants me to add... every kid need this because it's soooooo coool!).Version: 2.0.1

This amazing kids library for home now works right on the original iPad.Where prior versions might have been a tad slugging even on the iPad 2/3 (and downright unusable on the original iPad), this new version is fluid and reliable on all the devices. Awesome job, devs! As before, there are new books, but still no easy way to find them. Again there are several additions to the a-z animal antics series. (RR TEAM: Please! Mark new books with a "new this month" tag!) Getting books from the library can be frustrating: it's hard to weed the good books from the bad. The Reading Rainbow app takes that drudgery away. My 3 year old loves many of the titles. He even told a stranger recently that his favorite book is "Reading Rainbow." (His favorite book in the app is The Day-Glo Brothers. Go figure.) You could spend an hour at the library every week looking for good books, paying gas or bus fare to get there, or shell out $5 per month on the six month plan. It's an easy choice for me. Raising a child is an expensive affair, but even the $9 per month for the more expensive monthly plan seems like a good deal, considering they've added around 75(?) books since launch. Children need brain food, and this app gives it to them..Version: 1.4.0

Awesome app!Always glad to see Levar Burton doing such good things for our kids. The subscription is a good price for the educational value. The only complaint I have is that you can't zoom into pages in books. Some are very small on the screen..Version: 1.9.1

Best reading App everHighly recommended. It’s worth it for the children.Version: 2.3.8

Reading made fun!I highly recommend Skybrary. The interactive nature of the stories and the ability to also watch videos has really ignited a love of reading in my daughter. The price is so reasonable for all of the books and videos you have access to. - Reading Mom and Daughter.Version: 2.3.7

Best Educational AppMe and my kids love 💗 this App. Way to go!.Version: 2.3.3

Awesome app, my nephew loves itThis is a great app, the production it very good and the way it makes my nephew think it's tailored for them. The annual fee is a bit steep if you think of it as an app but as soon as you see it for what it really is, this awesome teaching tool for your children it doesn't seem like a lot.Version: 1.9.6

Very funLots of books, very good for kids..Version: 2.3.7

Amazing app!I loved Reading Rainbow growing up. When I found the app I was too excited to download it. So far I'm just doing the free trial to explore everything and see how my kids like it, if they really enjoy it as much as I have exploring everything, then I will definitely do the year membership!.Version: 1.10.3

Stories come alive! What a wonderful app for young readers. Although my niece is a little too young to be reading on her own, she loves to watch me click on the animations and help turn the pages. Luckily, the narration will help her learn vocabulary while she begins learning to read on her own. These books are so creative and I know it will help grow her imagination. This app is great and I highly recommend!.Version: 2.3.8

Reading Rainbow Rocks!Thank you for this app. Was my favourite kids show even before I had kids! We use it every night..Version: 1.9.4

Great funGreat range and presentation. Needs a zoom function and somewhere to put the extra stickers like another island..Version: 1.9.0

Still a great app! This app is great because not only do my kids love it, I mean LOVE IT, but as a parent I can trust all the content in this app. The diversity of the books available are outstanding. My 5 year is reading about everything from Hanukkah to Sir Cumference math stories to stories about monsters, pirates and fairies...oh my! All the while totally engaged and entertained. And, that's just the books, I could write another review just on the quality and subject depth of the video field trips alone. The world of Reading Rainbow inspires my kids imaginations and sparks conversations about the mysteries of the world, which brings me great joy. It's the starting place for so much that I can then add to and that's truly priceless. All that plus LeVar as their guide, need I say more. Sure, the apps not perfect, no apps are, but I trust that these guys will continue to develop it and that's all I could ask for for my dollars..Version: 2.1.0

Great appThank you for still keeping this show available.. My kids will b enjoying this app.Version: 1.9.4

This app is greatIt really is.Version: 2.3.7

It’s a great appI think even though I’m 10 and in 5th grade I think this app can be helpful to any age at any time just pick out a book that you might like then start reading it’s a whole new experience and way better than raz kids.Version: 2.3.7

Positive screen timeMy three year old daughter and I love reading books together on this app. We are constantly visiting the different islands and getting new books. We've read nearly forty books in the three weeks since purchasing the six month subscription. The pace at which the narrators read is nice and slow, which is what you want for pre and early readers. My only knock, and it is a minor one, is that I wish the sticker option could be turned off. Stickers might be a source of motivation to read for some children, but I find it a source of distraction for a child who intrinsically enjoys reading. One other positive is that the interactivity isn't over the top like you see in some literature apps-I find the interactivity yo be minimalist and in no way a distraction. I. can't wait to see how Levar and company develop this app over time. This is an excellent app overall! But don't take my word for it :).Version: 1.9.2

Learning to read is a journey. When you are looking back and your memories of reading are the worlds that were brought to life in your imagination, that's your reading journey. Now you're a guide to that journey with a beginning reader, I bet you want to guide this new journey to magical memories for your new young reader. This is THE cutting edge of creating that train depot that leads...anywhere..Version: 2.3

AmazingMy 5 yr son loves this app! I downloaded this app 2 days ago, already he has read 11 books and he loves the video field trips as well. My son has always been a fan of books, you provide a fabulous selection of books to choose from. I love that I can log in and see his progress and see what he had been reading. Well worth the 30 dollars every 6 mth. I have not been with you long enough to know how often the books are updated but I hope for the price of the program we see consistent updates on books as well as the documentaries/ field trips. Thank you for such an educating app.Version: 1.9.2

Good for young kids learning to readThe simplicity of the books to navigate, the fun animation and the narration encourage kids to keep reading. It’s been particularly useful to keep my child occupied and doing something worthwhile while school is closed. We also enjoy the videos to interesting places!.Version: 2.3.7

Great appA very good app, has my 5 year old captivated..Version: 1.9.4

An awesome reading app, with a few rough edgesThis app is something the iPad has been waiting for: a lending library for children's books. This means your child can "check out" books to read, and then "return" them when they want new ones, without you having to buy a whole new app each time, and for a monthly subscription price roughly equal to two books. While the app has some great features ("islands" that divide books by subject, a virtual "backpack" and "library card", for instance), it does drop the ball in a few places. For one, right now it only supports one child, meaning if you have two or more kids reading from one iPad, only one gets to pick their favorite subjects, and get their personalized library card. Another issue, though minor, is a lack of "follow-bouncing-ball" style words. While the narration is excellent, and the books show which page the narrator is reading, nothing shows the children which exact word is being pronounced. This is fine for pre-readers, but for kids just starting to read books themselves, it's a bit of a let-down. Other than those fairly minor points, this is a must-have app for every parent who buys children's books in the app store..Version: 1.01

My 4 year old keeps thanking me for this app!!!My 3 and 4 year old love to use my tablet, but I hate for them to just play games. My 4 year old loves books and to be read to, but I can't always read to her as often as she would like. I tried the 5 books first and we fell in love with it! My daughters LOVE this app. I like the ability to have it read, but also the ability for me to read to them or them to themselves! They usually love watching videos, but have been so pleased with the books they haven't even began to mess with the videos yet. $50 a year really isn't that bad when you think of the amount of money you'd spend on books, gas, and time to go to the library, bookstore, etc. It takes up a lot less space and with young children ever changing tastes makes this totally worth it! Some complain this is way too expensive, but when you have multiple children with different taste this is way cheaper, plus paying for the service of the app reading to you. I love that this not only has fun books, but educational ones and National Geographic! There are books for different cultures as well. This is an all around great app. This may not be for everyone, every age, or every reader out there so I encourage you to try the app first before committing to the price so as not to be disappointed. The free trial is more than generous and really gives you a taste!.Version: 1.10.5

Could be so much betterI've backed this since the Kickstarter campaign and subscribed since the app was released. I really, really, really want to use this more, but I don't find my son and I using it all that much. Why? Finding books is clunky. There is no listing of books by authors. Often how we find a new book is by reading a book by an author and liking it, then going and finding more of their books. Absolutely no way to do that here. No search. There's a search button, but it tells you search is coming soon. It's been three years... Only five books at a time. The backpack idea is cool, but come on. I should be able to add books to an endless list, like shows/movies in Netflix. Since you can only download five at a time, if my son rejects those five (or we read them all and want another), we have to find another book and wait for it to load, etc. The sticker thing is still 'coming soon'. What's with putting buttons in your app that don't work? Finally, and perhaps biggest to me, although admittedly my son probably doesn't care, the books are low quality images. Children's books that I buy on iBooks look gorgeous on the big iPad Pro. But in Skybrary they don't take up the whole screen and are all pixelated. Offline reading. It's back now, but why was it ever gone? I really wish this app was easier to use and more functional. I really support the mission behind it and want it to succeed. Unfortunately, as it is it doesn't feel like a cutting edge app and service..Version: 2.1.1

WonderfulThis is a fabulous app, but I would like to cancel my subscription to Skybrary. My grandchildren are getting older and aren’t interested in this program..Version: 2.3.8

Great books and animations! This is a great app that I love to use with my 4 year old nephew. The read aloud and animation features are great to engage young readers..Version: 2.3.7

Very impressed!!My son loves this app. The subscription is very well priced for the yearly subscription. It is roughly the cost of 3 new books which put into perspective is worth every penny. Glad to know they add new books monthly cause at the rate my son is going through them we will be done all 400 books soon. Wish there was more of a selection for younger kids age 1 to 4. Also wish they add more first reader books for kids learning to read with the common sight words for kindergarten to grade 1. BUT so far this app has been the best app I have ever purchased. My son reads 5 books before bed ever night and begs to read more. Thank you for making such and incredible app!!.Version: 1.10.3

Amazing!Such an amazing app, beautifully done with a great selection of books. My 3 year old adores it and I love the range of books, especially awesome for homeschool!.Version: 1.10.8

Very Good AppWas a little bit confusing to use at first but called them and they helped me figure it out. Ryan loves all of the videos especially National Geographic.Version: 2.3.7

An amazing appThe quality of the videos, book selection, ease of use... Just stellar! At $5 per month on the 6 month purchase, it's a real bargain! The only thing needed is to allow each of your kids to have their own back pack. Levar, great job!.Version: 1.01

Brings back great memories. My boys love it. I like it because it’s better than the other stuff they play on the tablet..Version: 2.3.4

Fantastic, but limited for nowThe app itself it great. It holds true to the TV program I remember as a kid. I would just ask for more books and for more field trip videos. My children have read through most books available. Also it's rather annoying to have to go back to each child's profile to switch out "what they like" just to view different books. I would assume that children like more than 3 things and want to read about more than 3, I know my children did. In all, I'm glad we subscribed for the six months, it's quite a significant savings cover the monthly fee. And as my young readers get more comfortable with reading, they can listen to the books first and then go back later and read them to me. I'm sure more books will be added in the future and my children will continue to enjoy the app..Version: 1.9.0

SkybraryI love how my sister loves skybrary.Version: 2.3.7

So far really impressive.I am 20 years older than the target market. I'm checking the app out because I'm a fan of LeVar Burton and the original tv series. So far I really like how it's done. There are several interactive kid books apps, but this one has a good amount of content and it's organized well in a fun interactive way -- with themed islands in the sky you can travel to with your balloon. Of course, the app also has LeVar Burton, including education videos with him on location. Looks like he had tonnes of fun making the app too. And Yeah, it does lack the complete original theme song... I'm guessing the rights were owned by PBS or something. I'd definitely recommend this app for kids. A couple technical points: -The app is crashing when I try to watch videos. Maybe the streaming server is overloaded right now with requests. That bug can be fixed. - The icon needs work. You shouldnt put the app name or title text in the icon itself. The app name is always going to be under it, or beside it, anyways. The balloon is cool, but ambiguous in that picture. Also should incorporate a book some how. Honestly, branding and recognizability is really important -- I'd consider even putting LeVar's photo/head in the icon if it can be done well..Version: 1.01

Excellent app by excellent peopleI never saw RR as a kid, but i wish I had. Our daughter loves this app, with wonderful educational videos and more stories than we can shake a stick at. Good readers too, I'm not allowed to read to my kid because she wants Burton and company to read to her. Great concept with the "sign out/return" method of gathering books, but considering how fast we read stories it would be great to either speed up the book return process (ie: don't bother with the "are you sure?" message or faster navigation back to the islands) or let us sign out more books at a time (say up to 10, 15 or more) so we stay focussed on the reading, not the mechanism. The long term subscription fee of $5/month is so reasonable my wife and I both bought subscriptions for our individual devices. Now we can provide good stories to our kid anywhere, anytime. Thanks RR and company!.Version: 1.9.0

Love it!My 5 year old loves the app. I love how fun and interactive it is. ❤️.Version: 2.3.7

Great app! This app is very kid-user friendly with a wide variety of books and virtual field trips to choose from. It has a narration option that will read the book to them, which is really great for younger readers. It’s full of bright colors and adorable animations. We really enjoy Skybrary!.Version: 2.3.7

Outstanding!I am a special educator working with young children. I have a ton of apps and ebooks on the iPad and my school has a subscription to Bookflix on the computer. Trying to get multiple kids to log on to a computer program is very time consuming. This app is wonderful because it has so many great choices of books in one place. I love the idea of checking out books and returning them. It is a good introduction to using a library for young kids. I can have a couple of students listening to great literature while I work in a small group with the rest. I do wish there was better organization of the books- the islands aren't the easiest way to find books, especially with all the overlap. I got the 6 month subscription and for multiple kids it's well worth the cost..Version: 1.2.1

My favorite reading app! This is still my favorite reading app because it allows access to quality selection of books the kids can choose on their own. I like that they do not need supervision or help to choose what interests them. There are different levels for different age kids so I can have my oldest read to herself while my youngest can have the book read to him. I am disappointed since the new update and have to deduct a star however, because the books are no longer staying downloaded into the backpack making the app frustrating and difficult without wi-Fi access. It used to be our go to app in waiting rooms and long lines, but now it is pretty useless unless I remember to go into the app prior to leaving and re-download all the books each time. It is such a long time with 5 backpacks full of books and does not download quickly with cellular. If I can figure out how to fix this I will update my review. I wish that it would allow the kids to access offline like it used to. I will probably not renew my subscription during school since we usually use this while we are out, but if you have access to reliable wi-Fi it would be worth it. I will likely renew next summer when the kids are home. Still, a great app, well designed and fun!.Version: 1.9.6

Great Storytelling App for Young Kids! This app is wonderful! My niece and nephew really enjoy reading books in Skybrary. I watch them get immersed in the pages and look for clickable animations after each narration. I highly recommend this app for younger kids!.Version: 2.3.7

Annie's reviewThe best reading app ever and I love it!.Version: 2.3.5

Great reading appMy four year old loves his “electric books”, whether it’s with me reading them or In auto-read mode. The little Levar Burton mini films are also a hoot and have inspired some funny conversations. This is the most loved app on our iPad.Version: 2.3.4

ImpressedFor 4.99 a month I am incredibly impressed with the book selection. As a preschool teacher I also appreciate the variety of fiction, nonfiction. Since much of early reading is about interest and developing a love for reading asking for the child’s interest is right on track..Version: 2.3.2

DescantDoesn’t have New book other than that the app is good.Version: 2.3.7

My daughter can’t get enough!Great app - wide variety of book content that my daughter could scroll through for hours if we let her! The animations on some pages are fun and creative - and the field trips are a great add! This will serve as a great way for us to be okay with screen time..Version: 2.3.7

Fantastic App!This is a wonderful app. It's just a shame you can't download an English version as its a bit too American for my little one. Otherwise I would definitely subscribe!.Version: 1.6.0

Great booksMy daughter loves to read the stories and watch the videos. Once you read a book from that island you should get a sticker from there. It always seems to be stickers from the same island.Version: 1.9.1

My daughter loves this appThis app is everything I remember the TV episode being.Version: 1.9.1

Great adventure! This is a lovely way for my kids to have screen time. They are learning and enjoying the adventures!.Version: 2.3.5
