Zaga-33 for Positive User Reviews

Wonderful little title!Wonderful little title that combines simple mechanics with enough variability and strategy to keep you interested wherever you are. It looses a single star for the control scheme. Currently you press in the direction you want to move, which while intuitive, can sometimes lead to missteps on the edge at the edge of the screen. What I'd love to see is an alternate input swipe gesture. Simply swipe in the direction you want to move. Overall great stuff!.Version: 2

Brilliant minimalist roguelikeThis is the first iOS roguelike I've really gotten into. I think it's because the minimalism allows the game to breathe on the iPhone screen, instead of trying to cram too much information and too many decisions into what should be an intuitive device. The game is tough, and very much a tactical puzzler where you need to plan ahead, but very rewarding when you finally get the hang of eluding the numerous enemies. I was frustrated by the controls at first, but I've had no problems since switching to the swipe options. Try the free PC version if you're not sure about the gameplay, but for the last few weeks I've been very glad to have access to this when I'm on the train. Also, there are super hard secret levels! It'll be more rewarding if you find them yourself, so that's all I'll say..Version: 2

My favorite phone game designer!Huge fan of Michael Brough’s games. Such a delight to play these seemingly simply-executed yet deep and complex (and crushingly hard!) tactical games. This is the spiritual precursor to the brilliant 868-HACK (my all time favorite and most-played phone game). These are such welcome throwback-style games in a world of overwrought animations and in-game ads. Every one of Brough’s games are absolute bargains..Version: 5.1

ExcellentI LOVE this game! Nice rougelike The latest update made the controls SO much better! Would still like a d-pad option though..Version: 2

BEST GAME.......but....Great game but it needs more creatures and power ups/ alien areterfacts. but I do admit its a winner right here but I also would like to see more lvls. :).Version: 1

Where to start....An amazing take on rogue, simple and yet so much stems from that. Like the tetris of its genre. As for the soundscape and the way it is generated differently each time. Just needs iOS 12 support, but one can dream :).Version: 4

I love this gameThe game is ace. I play it on the way to work every day. Such good fun..Version: 4

ExcellentBeen looking for a great roguelike and this is it!! Get it!! -betscribe.Version: 2

MIKE DELIVERED FOR YOU, HOW ABOUT YOU DELIVERING FOR MIKEMike gives you so called gamers great games. One question, there should be three times the reviews for this great game. Mike I'm sure puts his heart and soul into these games and I wonder how many so called gamers appreciate his effort? I challenge all you so called gamers, let's rally around Mike and support him. You so called gamers are a stupid bunch if you don't.Version: 4

It's coolIt's cool, I like it. The controls can get a little iffy along the edge, but nothing major. Love the graphics too..Version: 1

Michael Brough does it againAwesome game! Oh, and if you read the reviews already, it doesn't crash..Version: 4

Awesome...but controls need just a tune up!Been looking for a roque game. Love the random affects of the items and how little each map is... However I find myself at the exit of almost every level trying to enter the door but I always click up or down giving the monsters a chance to attack me. I think the game needs a control pa on the left side. It won't even clutter the UI cause it won't be on the map. Make the option and I'll change to 5 stars. Great game otherwise..Version: 1

Has been updatedRuns perfectly on my creaky 1st gen iPhone SE. Thank you for the update Michael!.Version: 5

Enjoyable and quick strategy game playWhile this game doesn't look like much (I would much prefer slicker graphics, but I get that the retro style fits here), the randomness of the maps and the simplicity of the controls and turned-based game play are perfect. It lacks Game Center support which would be nice to have, but the challenge level is good and everything is ideal for quick gaming sessions. This is a winner!.Version: 2

Crashes!I love the game, but it keeps crashing! Please fix! (Note: Playing on iPad Air 2).Version: 4

Gateway RoguelikeThis truly is one of the best Roguelikes on iOS and the one that best plays to the strengths of the platform. The fact that it's not getting recognition for this fact is criminal. The positive reviews aren't fake, they are from people with good taste..Version: 2

Fun gameGame is fun to play and faithful to the PC version. It needs Gamecenter, which is a requirement on IOS, imo. Also the controls lead to a lot of false positives which is a little frustrating. Would like to see a couple more control options? All in all a good game and well worth the price..Version: 2

Super little gameGreat retro based roguelike. Totally in love with this game right now..Version: 1

Addictive and simple yet surprisingly deepIn Zaga-33 you play a little character (pun intended) who walks around a maze like planet. It's a simple turn based game, where you have to kill or avoid the monsters and get to the exit. On the way you find loads of power ups and helpful items, lasers, teleports, nukes, etc... But what starts out simple soon becomes a surprisingly deep strategy game almost akin to chess. Once your on level 20, with only a teleport and a nuke, every move counts, and you can spend quite a while planning your turns... Add to this the fact that the power ups change their look, so you have to learn what your picking up as you go, and the fact that you can learn the enemy's behaviour, and the randomly generated maps... And you have a very addictive "just one more go" turn based strategy game. A real gem, not to be missed :) My advice, change to swipe controls before you start, in fact I feel this should be the default... My only criticism is that it could do with a slightly more intuitive options menu :).Version: 2

This rogue planet is a nice rogue-likeNice streamlined gameplay. Great coffee-break style roguelike. Randomized power-ups and enemy behaviors keep it interesting..Version: 1

Pure retro cheese in a can! While the roguelike description is apt, it also could be seen as a neat take on the classic Robots game (after each move you take all of the robots will take another step toward you) with a bunch of fun tools (not just the sonic screwdriver or limited teleports). Killing monsters in this game gains you nothing in itself, it's just a necessity to survive onto the next room or grab some key item dropped somewhere on the level. Your score is based on how far you make it into the lair (dying on the 5th room nets you a score of 5), but if you manage to make it all the way to the Cortex and destroy him you'll get a nice little bonus based on how many items you still have on your person (there may be other bonuses at that point as well, like your remaining health, but I'm not sure)..Version: 1

Thx for updatingJust keep updating,I will always support you.Version: 4

Interesting roguelike puzzler with questionable controlsThe movement controls stymied me on a few occasions, but otherwise this is a fun little game..Version: 1

Big Little RoguelikeSmall but perfectly formed game. A lot of fun..Version: 2

Perfect mobile RoguelikeThe kind of game I wouldn't give five minutes to on desktop but is perfect for mobile. Fast and tight. The only thing holding it back from 5 stars are control issues. It's too easy to make a mistake, which in a rogue like is often fatal. Some kind of virtual pad might help. Its a bit of an unfair criticism as I have never played one touch screen game that I didn't think had control issues. I wish my iPod had some real buttons!.Version: 1

Great little game!Really enjoying this game, lots of fun! A couple of suggestions: - another control method, maybe swipe, as it's easy to mismove and getting through the exit is particularly hard - some kind of benefit to killing monsters, as it would another dimension to the game. Apart from those, love it!.Version: 1

Needs alternate control schemesThe controls are relative to where your character is, making it hard to move when on the edges of the screen. Here are some control schemes that would make mistaps far less frustrating: - swipe to move - virtual d-pad - change the controls to not be relative - e.g., tapping the top of the screen always moves up regardless of character position.Version: 1

Updated?!?Yes!!!! Updated to run on current devices! Thank you, thank you, thank you, Michael! I thought this was long abandoned. Very pleased to play it again on mobile!!!.Version: 5.1

Perfection stares you in the faceThis game is a beautifully crafted beauty— absolutely perfect. A homage and a remix at the same time..Version: 2

Totally hooked! This is my new favorite game. Awesome sauce!.Version: 2

Zaga 33Excellent game, easy to play , hard to beat. Very addictive game .if you love dudes other games you will love this game as well .can't stop playing!.Version: 4

Great!Love this game. Virtually every move you make means something. It's brutal, but tons of fun. Controls are spot on..Version: 2

PuzzlingRoguelike from an exceptional game designer. Edit: Thanks very much for the unexpected update!.Version: 5

Keeps crashingKeeps crashing after two seconds please fix I've tried it on two devices and nothing.Version: 4

Great little gameVery addictive and different each time you play. Recommended..Version: 1

Great buyFun game for hours of fun, defiantly worth the buck!.Version: 1

Brilliant!A little masterpiece that's different every time you play. A must for fans of exploration games..Version: 2

The classic is back!I really missed this little game. It’s a lovely simple(?) glitchy rogue like that is just fun to play..Version: 5

Decent.Pretty fun. Randomly generated levels. Hours of fun. Like 5 hours max. Got to level 24..Version: 1

HypnotizingDespite a few Rogue-like details, this is a very different kind of game. Half puzzle, trying to move safely and avoid the monsters. Half managing your limited (and sometimes unknown) powerups. The goal is just survival, ending at the Level 25 boss. You can get a higher score by having more stuff left unused. Also, the music and visual style put me in a hypnotic trance... I prefer the swipe control scheme. (iCade support would be a nice addition, even if touch was still used for some things.).Version: 3

Needs D-padNeeds subtle dPad control layout. Swipe option is welcome and very accurate but it's going to give me RSI (repetitive strain injury)!! Please. I like the random elements. And the deciphering of the magic spells through use is cool. Please add D pad. And perhaps iCade support too..Version: 2

The coffee break roguelikeZaga-33 has been in constant rotation for me ever since I purchased my ipad lo these three weeks ago. It's a light roguelike - don't go in expecting hours on end of play. But do expect to spend minutes per day chipping away at the world, improving your understanding of enemy patterns, when to use items and when not to, trying to survive in this alien landscape. For those who like quick games with a fair amount of depth, this is a solid choice. It's far and away my favorite roguelike on the app store, and the new swipe controls have actually made the experience even that more pleasant..Version: 2

All hail the Zaga! It’s back and it works! Thank you Michael Brough.Version: 5

BugNew update is not working on iPad , btw New update is not working on Mac OS maverics to, btw2 lov u brog, big fan , have made lost of New costumers for you here in Brasil :p.Version: 4

One of the best semi-casual iOS games! For a quick pickup game this has some serious depth! Already spent hours and I can see myself enjoying this for many, many more..Version: 1

ExcellentThis game is old school addictive. I love it. The reason for only 4 stars is because the controls aren't responsive sometimes. I believe it's more of a limitation of the small 3.5" iPhone screen. There's just not enough room..Version: 2

Gr8 portI'm a big fan of roguelikes and the 7day roguelike challenge. Loved this game on pc too. Now if you could only add a few more powers. The only thing better than this would be the 7drl hyperouge 3 on iOS!! (LOL) good job/ game developer!.Version: 2

Endlessly replayableZaga-33 is a brilliant and compelling stew of roguelike elements (complete with @ as the player character) with a dash of risk/reward. Each level is randomly generated, complete with different enemy types. You'll find artifacts you can use to overcome or outsmart your enemies, but they are also randomised each game, so you'll never know which one heals you, or which one fires lasers, or which one explodes and destroys obstacles until you use them for the first time in each play through. Enemies range from randomly moving peons to relentless hunting machines, and you need to use your built up knowledge of artifacts to defeat or evade them. Most of the time you'll want to evade, but many artifacts are powerful weapons or tools when used correctly, and you have a basic attack for desperate situations. The meat of the gameplay is gauging whether or not to avoid conflict or to take risks to procure another artifact which may or may not be the perfect answer to a problem later down the track. It is impossible to do this gameplay justice in black and white. Take a chance and try it for yourself. Your first few games will likely be confusing or fruitless, but part of the game's charm is learning its nuances through failure. Together with 868-HACK, also from developer Michael Brough, this is one of the most replayable and intriguing games on the App Store..Version: 3

Oh yeah!I've long read about this developers' games and how cool and clever they are, but I hadn't bought one yet. So, daring to live dangerously, I spent a whopping $.99 and bought his Zaga-33. Oh yeah, it is cool and clever. Very chill game with unassuming graphics. Excellent!.Version: 4

Excellent game.Perfect quick little roguelike that's excellently suited for mobile. It's well worth a buck. :).Version: 2

A great little strategy game for your coffee breakIf I had to sum it up in a sentence, I would say this: "On almost every turn, you have an interesting decision to make, and your decision will always have interesting consequences." In the end, that's the pinnacle of what a strategy game should strive to do. The roguelike genre is getting some revived popularity lately, but most games adhere to a tried-and-true formula that is beginning to get a bit stale. I really like how Zaga 33 breaks the mold. Every move, every item, and every enemy is important. There is no filler here - it's streamlined game design at its best..Version: 1

Worth Every PennyFast, simple but challenging Rogue-like. Tried this after playing this designers Hack and Corrypt games, and like them, Zaga-33 doesn't disappoint..Version: 4

So Good! This little game really is awesome :).Version: 2

Recommended by Jonathan BlowSome sort of puzzle game... Weird and interesting..Version: 2

A gem!So good to see this back on the App Store! It was the first Michael Brough game I really got into (many more since) and I remember the excitement and tension of closing in on my first complete run. Excited to try another one after years away from it. As with so many of Michael’s games, this is a tightly constructed piece of turn-based strategic genius..Version: 5

Fantastic RoguelikeAt first it may appear to be just another simplified rogue game, but you learn it's intricacies before long. You'll analyse which powers are available in the room (all of which are very unique and are much preferred to the generic fantasy potions system) and then decide if they're worth obtaining and which of your current items you should use to get there. The art is fantastic for such a simple tile based game and the theme evolves as you go deeper into the space caves. I recommend that you change the controls to the joystick option on the home menu as this makes the game really natural and easy to control - no mis-moves here. Even little details like the flavour description of enemies upon inspection add to the charm and overall polish that this game has. It had legs and for 69p you can't go wrong..Version: 2

Very goodThe thing is good, thank you..Version: 1

Simple yet addictiveI love tactical RPG's, but they are way too complex for a mobile phone. This is a perfect way to get your fix on the go! An instant classic!.Version: 4

Truly AmazingThis is my favourite roguelike, and a game that's fast and fun every time. The design is minimal but incredibly deep. Remember to try the alternate control method (slide the joystick icon in the corner),.Version: 2

Really like this oneQuality rogue-like, best one I've played in a while, and although I agree the controls can be a but shaky for those who have trouble with doors, I recommend a swipe as opposed to a tap.Version: 1

WhooSimple, but pretty fun!.Version: 1

Love itMy first rogue-like. Hard to beat, rewarding mechanics, compelling atmosphere. A small work of art!.Version: 2

A Finely Crafted GameThe music is a delightful, interesting and developing experience, just like the game itself. It seems so simple but, believe me, it is HARD..Version: 4
