✓ FunThe method of simply sliding around the screen to create a drum riff is extraordinary and so much fun. It takes a second to learn, but with a little practice you get rewarded by even better loops - a sign of great software. Lots of us are suggesting tweaks - simply cos it's great already, so take mine as a compliment please. If it were me I'd put the 4 buttons that choose between crotchet and quaver timing directly above the slide zone, because that would allow for instant variations without needing to stop and access a fiddly sub-menu at the side of the screen. I can sort of do it using two hands, but it's not easy! Anyway - buy this instead of a pint and you'll be very happy you did !.Version: 1.0

✓ Essential percussion toolWhat an amazing discovery. For a long time I have lamented not having good world percussion sounds to work with. Well my expectations have been surpassed because not only are the sounds varied and of high quality but the amount of control and editing pushes the sounds into your own unique loops. There is so much to work with like pitch, tempo, placement, eq,effects, loops it give you more flexibility to create your own hybrid sounds and rhythms. The app is worth more than the asking price and the optional extra sounds are ridiculously cheap. Genius !.Version: 1.3.3

✓ Really great app, and keeps getting betterFor ethnic drums and exotic jams, this is an awesome app. It's limitation is that almost everything uses preexisting loops, but it is so flexible with what you can do with them that it really doesn't matter. I have thumbjam and drumjam and I love them both. Drumjam has now evolved into a real instrument instead of just an app. There are some great ethnic drums and beats that I haven't been able to find anywhere else in the App Store. ✓ Phenomenal updateThis was already a brilliant app, but the update just made it even better. I love the new 'Bedlam' FX, and I'm so pleased that there's now different time signatures too. The in-app instrument purchases are definitely worth having - I got all of them. What I really appreciate about this app is that you can get sounds & grooves that are totally unique and well-recorded enough to use professionally - and it's fun and intuitive to use as well. ✓ IOS 14 not so good for this amazing appAfter updating two of my devices to iOS 14, DrumJam won't play. You get sound from hitting the stop button and it will play a little bit if you mess around with the pads, but stops almost immediately. ✓ One of the BestWhen I say one of the best, I mean it belongs on the iPad of any musician who enjoys making drum beats. If you have not much skill then you can still make good beats. If you are skilled then you will laugh at how it can extend your ability. Great great fantastic app with so many different drums available that are sampled with care. It amazes me when I see a review that raves how good it is and gives 4 stars because it lacks one thing that the reviewer would like to have. Stars is a relative thing. If you remove a star for one thing you want then every other drum app you should give zero to make it fair. You are giving 4 to the best drum app. Is that sensible? Rating is not a way to ask for features. If you want a feature then email the developer instead of reducing the apps rating. ✓ Superb, recommend without hesitationThis is hands down my favourite ipad app. Lockett is a superb percussionist- I was already a fan of Network Of Sparks. This app is a combination of a brilliant set of loops and samples combined with a great interface that is easy to get started with but has some useful details if you spend the time with it. The loop section is great fun; I use the randomise options all the time. You can randomise either (or both!) the choice of instruments and the parts they play on the fly; I use this a lot as a springboard for song ideas. It plays well with other apps; its great fun to use with Loopy, and I also export loops and individual instrument performances to Auria. It's got a great collection of sounds- including a bunch of conventional drumkits. So it's great for building up conventional western drum parts as well as more "exotic" sounds But, frankly, a lot of the time I just play the app on its own, for relaxation. It's a huge amount of fun. Recommended for musicians who want to explore and create any sort of rhythmic ideas, and for anyone who just wants to have fun with percussion. Update: The expansion packs are great, this is still my first choice for creating drum loops or for just mucking around and having fun..Version: 1.3.2
✓ Easily the bestThis is the only drum app of value. Unreal. With a name like drum jam my expectations were low. The tabla is so close to the real thing, my only Qualm being Na ti ni should be grouped differently with ni and ti side by side. Anyway, regardless of these details, every instrument is recorded clearly and beautifully. Some instruments a person would never have access to in the flesh (or at least not of such high quality) become playable without years of practice..Version: 1.4

✓ Sometimes you find a gem!I was looking for a SIMPLE drum app that I could use to jam with and maybe steal some rhythms for songwriting. When I first saw it on App Store I thought uh oh another hippy nerd overly complex hand drum synth. But I saw it had some latin loops, and since I'm a sucker for Latin gave it a try. Using this app linked with Gadget and Patterning with the Randomization engaged is amazing, the results are incredibly inspiring. I almost sounds like I know what I am doing. It's designed for performance. The sounds are top notch. I really think the randomization feature gives it its power. Most of the stuff I do sounds linear because the drum track is repetitive. With the randomization I can jam with the changes it sounds good enough to be in a movie soundtrack. Maybe they could have a save randomization button on the performance screen when one comes up that you really like..Version: 1.3.3

✓ A delight in every way.This amazing percussion app is incredible in most ways and is probably (along with Thumbjam) the best value for money there is on the appstore. The drums are extensive, sound beautiful and can be played so easily. The ways of putting together your own loops is endless and so rewarding. There just isn't the time or space to go through all its many fine points and very few (if any) negative ones. I just need more time to really use this more fully. The only other app to equal this is one is (as already mentioned) ThumbJam, by the same developer. Thank you to the developers for producing such gems..Version: 1.3.3

Try jamming with this over some Blocs Waves creations and you will never run out of new material. The sounds are extremely well recorded and the playing outstanding. Thank you for this. ✓ Absolutely brilliant appThere are so many extremely well recorded drum loops, 20 for each instrument, which can be combined in any way. An intuitive and uncluttered interface which allows adjustment of the beats in many ways. Panning and volume are easily altered, and effects such as filters and reverb are easy to apply and sound great. You can record your creations easily, and it automatically trims your recording to the next bar, meaning that they are the correct length to import straight into another app or pc for use in a song. The standard loop length is 8 beats, but you can change this to anything down to two beats to experiment with different time signatures. As a percussionist you can isolate beats, learn them in the real instrument, then play along to its counterpart on Drumjam. Such a great way to expand your repertoire, and a fun excursion into many different drumming styles. The best drum app By far..Version: 1.3.2

✓ Gets the creative juices flowing!I’ll start with the bad. Theirs an annoying delay that occurs when the app is synced with Ableton over wifi via link so using it in a live jam doesn’t work so well. I haven’t tried direct monitoring yet so might give that a try to see if it improves things however anything you record into Ableton will need to be manually adjusted to the grid. Apart from that, I cannot fault the app. Sound quality is really good. Being able to position the instruments around the stereo field and front to back is a really nice touch! It allows you to audition instruments in a way which feels more natural than using pan and reverb. First play with the app, I laid down a percussion groove and was inspired into this great musical journey exploring different styles I normally wouldn’t have come up with. And loved it! I write underground electronic music mostly and had heaps or fun laying a fat wobbly bassline, trippy synth lines and pounding kick over top of the acoustic percussion loop. The percussion from this app kinda drove the mood which was a nice change from having to come up with something on my own. I eventually didn’t keep the percussion in the music because I had some new idea however it was pivotal in setting the mood for the session. Theirs still lots I haven’t worked out with the app yet but so far, I would highly recommend it. Especially for solo musicians looking for some quality sounding percussions to layer music on..Version: 1.4.5

✓ Brilliant app, well worth the money!I've been searching everywhere for an app that does what I want, which is: - midi drum pad used to trigger natural percussion sounds from around the world - let me switch instruments quickly during live performance so that I can loop (using LoopyHD) them on top of each other with midi drum This does the trick. I'm too new to it to know if I can do other things I want, so I won't comment just yet. Some requests, please, Pete? (I know, presumptuous to ask) - can you make Pads out of the other instruments available in your loops, please? Cajon, triangle, clap, wood block, etc. would be amazing! - where's the love for Celtic? Bodhran, bones - okay, that's all I got, but I play my midi drum pad vertically like a bodhran for primarily Irish and Scottish tunes. Please? - imagine being able to combine two instruments into a single pad! - I'd love to be able to assign midi notes to any of the sounds in the pad area and save configurations for quick retrieval - can we filter the instrument list for the pad selector and save that selection? ✓ Not being genericIf you want first-class renditions of all the standard genre drums get a DR-880. This is Drumjam, it's about character and spirit and new to you beats. In Settings you can auto-randomize patterns and instruments for an hour or two to get a full taste of what Drumjam can do. ✓ So much fun!I don't usually look for apps with loops, but years after this came out I read some discussion about it, which lead me to grab it. It is so much fun, I can barely believe it. Great sounds, great grooves, and really great design! I find myself just playing with it for an hour every time I open it up. I also find it very useful for recording in all sorts of ways. It works surprisingly well for recording with the loops turned off. I've got hundreds of music-making apps, including many great ones. ✓ FantasticBrilliant for me. A none drummer wanting to get more natural complex rhythms into their music. It's a technical tour de force, with only marginal flaws. In fact the biggest issue I have with it is a function of its effectiveness. File management. It's so rapid to create hundreds of usable wavs that the default naming structure (which the less lazy can override by typing a filename) gets organisationally stretched. Any chance of a pad instrument prefix / running loop prefix option? Then the workflow would be hyper optimised across the board. Recording loops as loops into the loop library would be the icing on the cake, allowing remixing the individual drums from multiple takes. Great sounds great user interface, great concept, great loop content, brilliant attention to detail. Highly recommended..Version: 1.0

✓ Great first impressions, one small niggleHad a play with drumjam and love the sound and instrument variety. I have only one complaint, the on the drum kits the hihat is between the bass drum and snare. If you try to play it as a drum kit using hits mode, it's natural to keep hihat time with one hand and do snare/bd with the other. The current arrangement means you'll have one hand tapping the hihat and the other trying to play pads either side, frequently bumping into the other hand and messing up the performance. It's as if the developer never tried this method, but it's the very first thing I tried to do with the app. If the dev reads this, please switch the hihat pad and the snare on the kits!.Version: 1.0
