Portions of the game that play videos, such as when you closely inspect the photo of the mansion with the eyepiece on, now just show a black screen. In spite of this I’m still attaching a 5 star rating because your games are just that good, and this was the beginning of a truly epic franchise. The difficulty of the puzzles isn’t really what’s good, it’s the exploration of the complexity and the discovery that is the challenge AND the reward. I’m giving it 4/5 stars because there was a repeated technical issue that caused the screen to go black and just hang the app at several places of transition. I’d have to minimize it and bring it back or kill it and restart/resume to proceed. I can’t recommend this to a more technologically unsavvy person like my grandmother, she won’t understand what it happening during those points of failure. I don’t know if this is even monitored anymore but I’m replaying the room at the moment and during the second chapter where you have to look at the photograph through the eyepiece, the game just goes completely black and stops working, becoming completely unresponsive. I bought an Oculus Quest just so I could play the VR version of this wonderful series of experiences (‘games’ is too demeaning a term for something like this). I must confess, I was very disappointed! It was a good try at VR but the blurry nature of all VR stuff wasn’t a patch on the wonderful original experiences on iPad etc. I also found some of the puzzles slightly nauseating, despite the teleport nature of moving about. ✓ $5 Well Spent!When I first saw this game a couple of years ago, I was a bit trepidatious about the $4.99 sticker price, I'm not gonna lie. It feels like a lot of dough for one app. Then I read some reviews (overwhelmingly positive) and I decided to take the plunge. I am glad I did. My then 5 year old daughter and I started the game and couldn't put it down. From the brilliant, seamless graphics, to the eerie storyline, we were engrossed for the better part of two hours. We reveled in figuring each little puzzle out, with my daughter's triumphant cry of, "I found something!" after insisting I let her drive the game for a bit being a major highlight for me. So many puzzles... If you enjoy a little light intellectual stimulation, this is less than what you might spend at the movies and will bring you hours of fun. We trot it (and its sequels) out about once a year and run through them again. Only two quibbles 1 the clues should be restricted to the clue area. When I pick up or tough a thing I don't want a clue automatically displayed about it. (Like "I'd better finish the side of the table before I go here"). I only want to see that when I ask for it. 2 the sound track is often quite unpleasantly scary. ✓ Wow!I first downloaded The Room a couple of years ago, but for some reason, I found the controls tricky to navigate. However, when I revisited the game a few weeks ago, I had no such difficulty. I think the simple answer is that my iPad skills improved! This time round, I found the game easy to navigate and challenging to complete, and subsequently downloaded The Room 2 and 3. All three of The Room games are unique; although they are clearly related to each other, each is also original, and different from any other game in the App Store. The thought, creativity, and skill that the Fireproof Games team has put into each episode of The Room is extraordinary and incredibly impressive! The artwork is outstanding, and makes the game beautiful to look at, let alone to play. Each of the three Room games can be played as a stand-alone game, but simply for enjoyment and entertainment, I recommend playing the three of them from start to finish. The clues offered are helpful without being too obvious, and I was certainly glad to have them! I'm sure the Room games have excellent re-play value, so a challenge in the future will be to play them without resorting to the clues. I love the way the hints are done. For one thing you don’t have to pay for anything, nor wait for it to “recharge”, instead the game senses when you need a little help and gives you a clue. If you still can’t figure it out it gives you a slightly more specific clue, and then it provides an even more specific clue. However, it is not an “answer”, you still have to figure it out. I’m stuck in a spot and tried to get help with various walkthroughs, but they appear different, (I am looking at this one, not the follow on’s). Maybe it changed over the years, I don’t know. The difficulty wasn't ridiculously hard nor was it overly simple. I only wish it was longer. I'm not sure how long it took to complete... maybe 2 hrs? ✓ Enjoyable problem solvingI was one of the generation that grew up on Riven and Myst so I was definitely intrigued by these games I enjoyed playing The Room due to its many multitask puzzles. There were quite a few times that I just stared at the screen in an attempt to figure out my next move. I enjoy the type of game that makes you think, rather than just shooting and killing everything in sight. My only complaint is the hint icon that would help you along if you got stuck but usually I was a couple steps ahead of it already. Not saying it did not come in handy sometimes, but it was a bit of a pain because it seemed it was every move you made it was giving you a hand to help. I was a little disappointed that it ended as quickly as it did, because I was able to solve it in a little over eight hours, noncontinuous because I was at work. Still, it was a very nice game. I am going to check the reviews on the remaining games before I decide to purchase. I hope they get harder as they go or it really will not be worth my time in buying them.
