Duolingo - Language Lessons Pros

It needs improvementHello, I know how hard developing applications can be for companies as I am a developer myself I wanted to say I love using Duolingo and how unique it is. I give this five star you can remember the words and learn through the app itself and wish it can take more inspiration to memory applications to improve the user learning curve throughout the app itself. I wanted to say by tapping onto the word you'll get the various definition of the word you are learning which is a cool idea but, very confusing for someone new to the language and would have to search the Internet and understand the context of the particular word or the structure of the sentence and forget it in a few months. For example, C’est in french this means in English it is or it’s or this is it has different words on the app that would confuse a user using the app itself and new to the language. Why not improve this feature so a user can be more interacted and engage more within the app instead of using a third party or search through a search engine and be more confuse or even not use the app itself due to one feature that can be improved? Don't only let the user have a responsibility to be responsible to learn the new language engage it more and improve it. Anyway, it's an amazing app, and I love using Duolingo!!!.Royal_beckhamVersion: 6.118.0

Love it, but with a bit more autonomyI’ve been trying to learn a new language for years. In high school and university i took foreign language credits and have had Rosetta Stone for about 4 years now, but to my own disadvantage i didn’t study and practice the materials out of class as much as i should have. Since downloading Duolingo, i haven’t been able to put it down! It’s surprisingly addictive and I’m now learning French and German (spreading myself a lil thin buttttt hey, I’m enjoying it haha). Duolingo offers what the others couldn’t- the ability to practice anywhere and everywhere you go without having to carry around a laptop or teacher. One thing i do wish Duolingo offered more of during beginner lessons is the ability to create your own sentences, as opposed to translating a sentence that’s already given to you. It’s much harder but forces you to think about why and where certain words go and which forms/tenses to use. This app would be the perfect study material to combine with in-class learning. Love it!.HipoupsVersion: 6.41.0

Duolingo - Language Lessons Cons

No more downloadable content and very laggyBeen on the free version of Duolingo for 2 years and thought the family offer of Duolingo Plus was a good one so we took it up. It has been a tremendous learning tool, but the new updates and the removal of the downloadable content when offline has been quite disappointing. I used to be able to click a button and download content for offline use, that has been removed and it simply does not download content on my iPhone that i can use offline anymore. The app has also become extremely laggy when loading lessons and grading. Very frustrating when trying to be quick using time sensitive XP boosts. The recently updated content (to the German course I use), whilst very welcome, has not had enough development to include all the possible correct translations. My wife, who is a native German speaker, is quite surprised at how narrow the possible translations can be. So after paying for Plus, the experience has unfortunately been disappointing. Will most likely go back to using the free version and then I’ll have no reason to complain. Please fix these issues Duolingo!.LokknessVersion: 6.151.0

Speaking Recognition Basically UselessI’ve been using duolingo on and off over the past 6 years and it used to be really good. I’m not bitter about changing it from free to monetised but christ, after every single lesson the app hit you with an add and proceeds to remind you to buy a subscription. I was considering a subscription but the French course had some recent changes that I really dislike. The voices used to be really good and clear but have been swapped with some more comedic ones that are incredibly silly, annoying and frankly not very realistic. (The squeaky female one is absolutely awful) I’d be okay to just bear with this but I’ve noticed that the french speaking lessons have become completely pointless… regardless of how badly I pronounce words or even if I leave some out or say the wrong thing - it just accepts the audio input as correct. The voice and inflection recognition used to be excellent and now it doesn’t seem to work at all. Only just a quibble, but I’m also not a fan of all of the new animations. They’re well done, don’t get me wrong, but completely unnecessary and distracting. I just want to get on with my lessons and not be disrupted by little animations all the time..ArinettaVersion: 6.124.0
