✓ First impressionsI downloaded the app a few hours ago and have not used it yet, but I have adjusted the settings to my requirements and taken a look at the e-book. The five stars is therefore based not on use, but on the fact that Photopills meets its App Store description and that it is also well-supported with the e-book and videos. There is one possible improvement which has come to mind. I use several formats, ranging from i-phone to 5x4 film. It would be very helpful if a way could be provided to change from one to another without having to scroll through lists of cameras..Version: 2.13.6

At $10 people will complain about having to pay but seriously I bet within one year I’ll be paying less than .01¢ per use. I just was referred to this app by another professional and I instantly downloaded. We agreed that this tool would be worth paying for the type of info it provides every time you’re on a shoot. The amount of camera types it has and can calculate settings, distance, and even an AR preview of your subjects proper location at the set f/stop, lens mm, and camera mm along with a 35mm equivalent. ✓ Best App for photographersThere is a Ton of stuff in this little app, I had down loaded it but not really used it for a few months after, but started to use it little buy little & now I cannot live with out it. Even going on walks, I can see a landscape view I like and take the photo on my phone, get home load it into Photo Pills for gps and see where I was standing, and do a search for the next 5 years to see where the sun will be. It will either tell me, the sun will not be in that position or will Give me a list of dates and time when the sun will be at that point, Or even the moon or Milky Way ect.Version: 2.11.2

However this app has helped me take incredible pictures that I would never have imagined using the tools within. ✓ Essential for MW photographyI’m a wedding photographer and I do a lot of night/Milky Way shoots with couples. PhotoPills is absolutely essential for what I do. ✓ Incredibly useful, but sometimes confusingIf you’re a photographer, this is one of the most essential apps you can have on your phone, bar none. My only real complaints are that the user interface can be confusing at times. For example, I can never seem to remember how to add a location in the planner “pill”, which often has me going to The Photographers Ephemeris to find what I need. Besides UI tweaks (can we please have the ability to customize the pills order? 🙏), I would love to see an Apple Watch app! I envision customizable watch complications and small functions like long exposure timers and DOF & exposure calculators. It’d be great to see the sun & moon timelines in the large complication slot! I set up plans first, then I try to get out and scout the location ahead of shooting and use the AR view to make sure I’m in the right spot. ✓ Exceptional.Downloaded this app in the morning then spent a few hours getting to know it’s features and by the evening I knew exactly where the sun was going to set so I drove to a location and set up then waited and just as the app had predicted the sun set and gave me a magnificent display. One minor change for the Timelapse tool is to change it to delay between shots and the duration of the exposure instead of adding both in the tool. My intervalometer has the delay and exposure time separate which works great and it's intuitive. Also add to your list the best exposure time for Milky Way pictures based on your camera, lens, and f stop plus iso settings. Now after deciding to get serious with my landscape photography and having lost nearly 20,000 images due to not backing up systematically I’m once again building my photo collection. As I’m planning several locations I realize how complete this app is. I’ve used Light Trac, (which I like), but Photopills seems much more complete. That being said I strongly suggest going to their website and downloading the user guide so you can get the most out of this program. As photographers we must be fluent with not only our photography gear, but with image processing software, etc. Photopills is 1 more important and helpful tool to learn how to use for exceptional photographs rather than just ordinary pictures. Whilst admitting to have only “played” with this app to date I am blown away by what it looks capable of (time will tell) but equally by the incredible value it represents. The app itself offers immediate help through the Academy tab and through this you can access not only a full user guide but a range of well presented ebooks covering a range of topics including moon, sunset, blue hour and Milky Way photography. I have seen comments about the complexity of the app, and they are honest observations; but, as advised by PhotoPills don’t try to understand all that the app can do at once - take it in bite size chunks: I use Photoshop, Lightroom and Luminar at various points for photo editing and am still learning all that they can do too. One of the tools that I use the most in this app is the DoF Calculator. There is a serious problem with this part of the app that literally freezes the app with no response. There's been over three updates since I noticed this problem and it still is a reoccurring problem. The thing that confused me more is that these newer features are being put into the application with this problem still existing! I've deleted the app and reinstalled it and it still does not fix the problems that keep on reoccurring. I really am about stability first in features second. ✓ The best astrophotography app ever!I never knew how valuable this app was until I tried capturing the Perseids Meteor shower last August. I could follow the moon, sunset, Milky Way and Meteors all within a few hours of each other while preparing for my photoshoot up in the high peaks that evening August 12th. The augmented reality feature was super easy to use and I was able to track the meteors around the clock. I had a load of fun especially discovering that the Milky Way would be right above us and I could plan on taking an image of it with all the meteors I planned to capture.
