Reporter App for Negative User Reviews

Very buggyDisappointing - really well designed, but never seems to work..Version: 1.0.6

Needs more complexityI've been using this for just over a week now. It's interesting but right now the data is offered up in too simple a manner. It would be great to link different data together to form a more complex picture. For example am I feeling happy when I'm working? What about when I'm with a certain person? Those kinds of linkages would make for a more illuminating experience..Version: 1.0.7

AwesomeGreat little app for someone who is obsessive about quantifying everything but is a little glitchy With the current iOS it freezes on the loading screen..Version: 1.1.0

Keeps CrashingApp is great but since today, app Keeps crashing..Version: 1.2.3

Lovely appWish the tap targets were a little bigger. Also, if my question is longer that the full question appears on screen. Once these issues are fixed its a near perfect app. Thanks again..Version: 1.3.1

Great concept, Tons of potentialOverall this app is great. Simple, easy to input short bits of data and a lot of potential to do something with it later. I've customized it with my own questions about what I care about. I've noticed too major things so far. One, some of the automatically generated data points like step count are way off and random and I have no sense of how it's generated. Second, while I think I could certainly do something with the data later, true value from visualizations and finding patterns isn't currently considered at all in the app or an output of it. That's a definite opportunity. Great foundation though but needs follow through..Version: 1.0.6

Very very dullI can generally remember where I've been and with who - don't buy.Version: 1.0.5

A startI jumped when I read about this but haven’t been able to put it to use. I’d like more options. For example there are some things I would like asked once a day and with that in mind I would like to specify when my day starts and ends so that Reporter knows when to reset itself. How about questions that are asked just once a week? Or a specific day of the week. What’s your weight? Or what’s your bank balance? Come to mind. It would be great to see this App or other apps leveraging this information into useful graphs and feedback. I’ve stopped using it but will be back..Version: 1.0.6

RipoffThe asking price for this app is crazy for what is essentially a notepad which sends notifications. Wish I could get my money back..Version: 1.0.5

Pretty neatThis is an interesting little app. Especially for someone like me who loves tracking various aspects of my life. The app works well enough, but for what it offers - the price is ridiculous..Version: 1.0.6

Good appI always forget to put it in sleep mode I think an alert to do that would be good..Version: 1.0.6

Too simpleI like the concept, but there needs to be more to it. Maybe add a feature to record mood, dreams, physical activities, things like that. Also maybe display the changes on a graph of sorts, so users can see their different answers throughout the day/week/month/year..Version: 1.6.10

Pretty cool, needs touch up....I like this app it's pretty neat. It's a tad repetitive with the questions. I think there should be more complexity with the questions. For example: I added a question, 'Are you learning?' If I say 'Yes', I'd like it to ask me a secondary question 'What are you learning?' Thank you :).Version: 1.0.7

Screen coloursPlease can you just do a simple white screen with black text for this app - the accessibility is terrible! I am unable to see the text when the colours of the background are so vivid so I will have to get my money back and return this app. Gives me a headache..Version: 1.6.10

Poor supportI don't normally write reviews, but I love this app, but have an issue with. I wrote support a couple of months back and never heard back from them - poor service.Version: 1.1.2

In some ways brilliant, but with a couple of serious flawsThe concept behind this app is good, and it's beautifully designed. Also, in a time of walled gardens and lock-in, full marks to the developers for allowing users to export their data from the app in a sensible, open format. In fact, users are positively encouraged to take their data to other third party visualisation tools. I've used the app for quite some time and generally like the experience, but I've encountered two serious problems: 1. An ostensible strength of Reporter is its ability to remind you to fill in quick questionnaires throughout the day in order to make the process of data capture automatic and as frictionless as possible. However, certain questions need to be set to appear only on waking or going to sleep ("How do you feel about the day ahead?" "How many coffees did you drink today?" etc.) but these will only be triggered when you MANUALLY flick a switch from "awake" to "asleep" or vice versa. In all the months I used the app, I never once remembered to toggle that switch. 2. Much more seriously, the whole data capture process is potentially let down by the way we use our smartphones. There are times when I simply ignore my phone (or switch it off) and at these times will never see the Reporter alerts, which impedes the capture of certain data. For example, for the question "What are you doing?", I will never answer "In a meeting", "Watching a film", "Driving", etc. I generally ignore my phone when I'm with my young daughter (I don't want her to grow up thinking that being constantly glued to a screen is normal behaviour) and so the question "Who are you with?" seems to suggest I spend vast amounts of time with work colleagues and almost no time with my family. Obviously these kinds of limitations completely distort the picture my data is creating. As much as I'd like to make Reporter work, I just can't find a way to work around these two shortcomings. I'm about to delete the app from my phone..Version: 1.4.0

Regular People Be WarnedI'm no data scientist or stats geek. I was more just looking for some way to reveal some interesting insights into my habits and behaviors. What I found was that this app is NOT suitable for this purpose as it pertains to regular people. For those deeply invested in personal data, this is a great tracking tool that will reveal a lot of neat points. For me, and probably anyone like me, I'm not creative enough to ask the right questions of myself so the lack of questions built into the app is really a drawback. On top, it's very interruptive of the daily flow. The alerts to report are abrupt, and while I do understand the diligence it takes to compile significant data sets, I don't condone an app that forces my iPhone into life at inopportune moments. This applies to sleep tracking--I won't remember to flip the switch to "asleep" when I'm tired and passing out! Many changes need to be made to accommodate commoners before this is mass-consumable. 3 of 5 stars, for quality of interface for data geeks and lack of guidance for the layman..Version: 1.0.5

Too simplistic and expensiveHad high hopes for this app, but unfortunately it doesn't live up to them. It's overpriced for what is a very simple app. Asks pretty basic questions and I don't think it'll produce any exciting and meaningful data about my life. Shame..Version: 1.0.5

Great app but...The app is amazing. i use it everyday. only problem is all the bugs in the new version. very laggy. please fix! i love this app.Version: 1.1.0

And the purpose is….nadaI have no idea why I purchased this. What does it do exactly? Why did buy into that NY hipster geek review of this…because I'm a sucker for nice logos and bright colours, that's why. I've really enjoyed trying my hardest to ignore this apps alerts, it's fun. I should've used the $5 to upgrade my membership at the aquarium so I could go and hang out with the jelly fish as much as I want too. Word.Version: 1.0.7

Doesn't use autocorrect keyboard - text is PAINFUL to type.I've only just started using the app, and once again here's an app where the developer doesn't include any way for the user to suggest things or report problems. So people have no choice but to use reviews, and for me that means they lose a star cos they're forcing me to spend time reviewing a product when all I want to do is report a problem. The problem is this: the app requires you to do a lot of typing (it asks, for example, "what are you doing?") - but the developers haven't hooked it in to Apple's standard text entry system. It doesn't do auto-correct! If you're like me, you've now become so accustomed to the iPhone correcting your text, you're a lazy typist. I am - I make loads of mistakes cos I know the iPhone will correct them. This app doesn't do that! And what it means is, text takes 30-40 times the normal amount of time it takes to write things. Cos most of us make huge numbers of mistakes, knowing that iOS will fix it. That's a major problem for me. It took so much longer to type one sentence cos I'm so used to being able to make a ton of errors. This means the app is actually not fun to use. It's a chore. I wanted to enjoy typing small bits about my day. But unless they connect the app to the standard text entry system. I'm not a developer but I just looked it up, and it seems like the text entry simply needs an to declare that autocorrect is on or off. Devs, please change this. When I typed the word "friend" in the app, I first typed "frnd" then "frien a" then "friwnd" then "ddrien d" etc. - that's what we do on iOS, we are lazy now. If that was a normal keyboard I wouldn't care cos iOS corrects it. But the deliberate decision you've made to turn it off means it's painfully slow to type. I wish I didn't have to submit this as a review. Devs why don't you trust your users? Why don't you have a big "tell us what you think" button in the app settings? When a dev does that, I feel INSTANT goodwill: this is a dev that is prepared to listen to feedback. You didn't do that and so my "problem report" becomes a review that moans and moans and moans. You've spent ages on this app but your lack of feedback option means I feel no goodwill. If you can issue an update that changes this, and if you add a "feedback" option, this app would be worth 5 stars I think. Please go for it!.Version: 1.0.5

Promising – But Under-DeliversI love the concept, but the app keeps asking the same damned question. The journaling feature also needs some serious work. Looking forward to updates..Version: 1.5.1

It's just random self-surveys, no correlating dataTo anyone that has messed around with personal tracking and is familiar with using Excel for personal use, this app will probably not impress you. I want to like it and make good use of it, but I just can't see it adding much value to my life. I've had it for a few days and have religiously reported to it and added my own data points, but it's just not telling me anything new that I didn't already know. There is no other layer of 'findings' to discover because of the data I've entered, it is not connecting any dots for me and revealing anything surprising - it's really just tallying up my answers in a survey style report and showing me the numbers. That's it. I could just do this in a spreadsheet. I don't see why all the hype with this app, or the price tag. It's a random survey results plotter tool. It's not giving me any useful correlations, like because I do x, I encounter a lot of y. None of that. Plus, real data nerds will realize that when an app asks what you're doing right now, the data it collects is not showing you how you spend your time, it's showing you how you spend your time when the app asks you to report it. Big difference. When I have time to play with my phone, I'm in a different mode and mental state than when I'm actually living my life. That's why I don't really value this data..Version: 1.0.5

Mr buggy pantsI'm a fan of Nicholas Felton's work. great concept for an app - easy to customize for my needs re: specific questions etc.. but for the purchase price I was expecting more I guess. it's a bit buggy - some of my reports have been lost/deleted or somehow not recorded after I hit 'save', and although I set my report reminders for 7 per day, sometimes I'm lucky to get 3 or 4 reminders. I was also expecting better display options for my data.. some refining work/updates would be greatly appreciated please? (pretty please with sugar on top).Version: 1.0.5

A good startThe app has certain qualities that I found to be enjoyable, such as the low time investment with taking surveys, minimal intrusiveness of survey prompts, and the overall ease of use. However, the main problem I have with the app is that it doesn't really tell me anything useful. It just returns the same information that I put in and counts how many times I entered that particular piece of information. If you want to count how many times you do something over a period of time, then this app will be excellent for you. If you want the app to make connections between pieces of data that you enter, then you're definitely not going to find this app to be as useful..Version: 1.1.2

Good App But Needs UpdatingThis is a fun app but no longer records weather updates from Dark Sky..Version: 1.6.10

Doesn't do enoughI'm not seeing the benefits of this app. It's a good idea but for $4.50 I would have expected it to do more than just ask a few questions at random intervals..Version: 1.0.5

No More Manual Data EntryWe are already consumed by hours and hours of data entry through social networking and work. Rather than add another layer, explore leveraging at least the social networking aspect to build and/or enhance personalized surveys..Version: 1.0.7

Not very well-designed.The app states it'll ask for a report randomly but never asks for the amount of reports set by the user. Data is not displayed in any easily understandable or even readable way. Just a messy list of numbers letters and a line graph about coffee consumption? The interface is very sparsely laid out. It's not very responsive and usually requires multiple taps before a touch point is activated. iOS 7 does a good job of making touch points easily understandable without buttons or borders. This app does not. If you're going to use non-standard UI elements at least do as good a job as the standard. What's probably even worse than the fact that the app simply does not work very well, sacrificing substance for style, is the incredibly poor taste in colors. The color themes provided are atrocious. At least they chose a very nice typeface..Version: 1.0.5

The app definitely has potential ...I really dig the survey style and the clean interface, but as it exists right now, the data that's being collected isn't really useful or interesting enough to keep me coming back. I'm not sure what it's doing with my photos, or even which ones it's pulling in, since I can't click on any of the entries to expand them. There seem to be a few key interactions and visualizations missing from the app, as it stands now. My assumption is that in time those visualizations will come with prolonged use, but as mentioned before, it's just not interesting enough to keep me coming back. And it definitely wasn't worth the $3.99..Version: 1.0.5

AbandonedThere was a TestFlight beta that at least tried to switch the weather API, but it also seemed to break a few things and now is gone. Looks like the end of the road, it was a good run..Version: 1.6.10

Rigid despite customization optionsI don't use Reporter to check in on me at random times of the day. Just want to be able to write a report with a variety of questions each night at bedtime about the day. The ability to program custom questions is fantastic. The fact that I have to tell the app that I've gone to bed and woken up each time I go to write a fresh report is annoying and results in 2 reports each day, one of which is empty. Further, cleaning up data is a pain. If I spell something wrong, like a friend's name, the app memorizes it and I'm forever stuck with bad data and suggestions. If I am in SF one day but want to go back and write a report for yesterday when I was in NYC and I write-in NYC, it permanently believes that SF is called NYC. And while you can export data, you can't take it out, clean it up, and reimport it. Also, it's buggy. For something designed to give so much control, it is missing some basics..Version: 1.1.2

BuggyGreat concept, but buggy as hell.. Reports go missing and no way to retrospectively add them back..Version: 1.0.6

Sadly noThe idea is lovely but the execution is fiddly..Version: 1.0.6

Confusing and buggyOne of the most infuriating apps I have tried. I can not understand how to enter responses. I can not (deliberately) put it in any mode that accepts responses. When it does start accepting responses, I can not get to the next question. It does not understand my location. It can not get weather, nor do I have any way to enter weather myself. Deleted with extreme prejudice. I wish I had not wasted my money on it..Version: 1.0.5

Waste of timeIt asks the same 2 questions all the time. Added questions only once. Stats are garbage because it’s not random sample..Version: 1.6.10

Needs ImprovementThe concept of the app is brilliant and is what drew me to it in the first place. The actual app itself though needs much improvement. The UI is very flashy, however that makes up most of its substance. It should be easier to do reporting in this. When you are prompted it should actually take you to the reporting section with your questions. The Sleep/Awake function isn't designed very well. There should be something that shows you what mode it is in other than the text in the bottom right corner. Overall great idea but poorly executed in terms of design..Version: 1.0.6

BrokenThanks for breaking the app! No longer works on iOS 8.1.1 / iPhone 5s with the last two updates. Plus the earlier update caused database corruption. Thanks for wasting a year worth of data collection..Version: 1.2.1

No sleep timerCompletely mystified why you cannot set a sleep mode timer. Apparently, if you forget to check in at bedtime it will continue with random alarms during the night. It offers an awake timer..Version: 1.6.4

Hoping for changes.I like a lot of what this offers.... However I personally think the sleep / awake paradigm is only getting in my way and wish I could disable it. Just give me X number of random or timed questions + a few specifically timed check-ins and I'd be great. Second, the color choices and font size / contrast ratios really are rough on me. I appreciate the bold design but wish it was a bit easier on the eyes..Version: 1.6.8

Uninteresting - Needs workThe concept is great—to gather various data and look for trends—but most of the analysis part is basically meaningless. First of all, I’d want to be able to set up groups of questions to be asked at specific times of day...not randomly and not just for wake/day/sleep. For instance, I would want: 9am: How did you sleep? What did you dream? 1:00pm: Did you have a healthy lunch? Whom did you have lunch with? (Using my contacts as possible names.) Where? (It would be nice if it suggested places I was over the last few hours.) 5:00pm: How was your work day? 9:00pm: Did you have a healthy dinner? Did you workout today? What friends did you see today? These could also serve as a Reminder app as well. THEN, once you have this data along with data collected by the phone (e.g. where I was, how many miles I traveled, any new contacts added, number of calendar entries, day of week, month, number of pictures taken, etc), I’d like to see insights like: - You travel 30% more on Tuesdays than on other days. - You took 80% of your pictures away from home last month. - You travel 235 miles in an average week. - You traveled 40% less this month than last month. - You exercise more often on Saturday than any other day of the week. - You eat out on 100% of Friday lunches. - You see Bob Smith on 30% of weekdays..Version: 1.6.10

Great app, crashes with last updateUsing iPhone 6, crashes while trying to open. Started when the app was updated 2 days ago..Version: 1.6.5

Import pleaaaaeeeesse?I’d like to use this for population self-report research. Rather than have each participant set up the same list of questions, which might prevent us going ahead with Reporter, it would be great if templates could be generated exported/imported..Version: 1.6.9

Cool app, crashes a lotVery nice design, very flexible, but crashes while I'm reporting which is insanely annoying..Version: 1.2.3

Good interface, shallow designFirst I have to say that I really like the design of this apps. The design is gorgeous, and the interface is well thought out. The one bug I encountered was in trying to export my data, I did not have an email account linked to my device and the app simply did nothing(no error message, etc). I would like to see more done with the data though, because in its current state I would not use it often. If the stats from reports were related to each other, I would find this app useful. As it stands now, I do not need an application to keep track of "What are you doing?" each day and things like that..Version: 1.1.2

Good app - no back up.I had used this app for 6 months and was enjoying using it, when one morning it wouldn't open. As a last resort I was forced to delete and re-download the app. I had lost all my reports and data. Why on earth there isn't a safe back up in case this happens is beyond me..Version: 1.1.0

Pretty LimitedThe app shouldn’t be $5 first of all, it’s very minimal. Don’t really need much else but figured it would have more bells and whistles for that price. Really wish there was a way to turn off the wake/sleep function. I just wanted notifications at a couple set times during the day without having to toggle a switch at the start and end of the day..Version: 1.6.10

PromisingThe app needs to guide you a little more; it took me days to work out you have to turn it to sleep to activate certain questions. Could the awake sync with an alarm and sleep with do not disturb? It is very easy to forget to put it to sleep or wake it up, meaning report data is incorrect. That aside, it is fun to use and looking forward to getting long term data from it..Version: 1.0.7

Cute concept, poor valueThis app really appeals to my desire to express everything in terms if hard data, and so it's nice in that sense. However it was pretty pricey for an app and I felt a bit let down when really all that I found was an app with a pretty design and an interesting idea. Was hoping for something a little more substantial..Version: 1.0.6

It has potencialAltough I guess the app has a strong niche, "the data nerds", this same niche has demands that the app doesnt fulfill. It's a lovely app, well crafted and design, and in 3 days of use it wasnt near to crash. But some key features are missing. First more rebust data visualization, we need the power to compare data x with data y. And see how x influence y. Other feature that i found missing, it's linking question. For example, the question "do you exercise today?" If i anwser no, nothing happens, but in yes, promp me another question, for examples "how many miles?". This can be easly solve, with an input method, if user anwser this, he can write some note. I guess the developer giving the ability to export the data, have the hope that community around his app create tools to fulfill the missing features. I can see me using this app on a daily basis, and i guess i can see in a future a scene around this. But first "reporter" needs to reach the more basics demands of the user..Version: 1.0.6

Just ok for now.Love Feltron but this app feels antiquated. Plugging in your information manually feels like we're back in Daytum times, but Reporter seems to lack the instant gratification that its predecessor seemed to provide. I was expecting a very premium, very automated life tracker. Getting a generic reminder, launching the app and filling out a very un-fun form while you're on the go isn't what I'd consider the best experience. And $3.99 is pretty much robbery with such a limited set of features this early on..Version: 1.0.6

Very poor, major problems on upgradeMajor data entry bugs in latest release. Do not upgrade. App crashes during data entry and provides answer choices unrelated to current question. Unusable..Version: 1.2

Buggy AppIt seems like a pet project of some student. The UI is not great. I have already seen few bugs in the app. The annoying bug is that even you remove all questions for reporting during the day, the app sends you notifications to report!.Version: 1.6.10

I am not getting alerts...should I hear a buzz?I just got the Reporter app to track where I am spending my time. I want to be alerted every 30 mins. I put that in the Notification Settings I clicked on REGULAR and checked that off But I am not hearing the alert go off? Does anyone know what I am doing wrong? Or is there a quick easy tutorial on line? Thanks Gayle.Version: 1.6.9

Promising, hopeful. This is something I've wanted for a long time, being a fan of the Feltron report and generally the whole 'quantified self' movement. However, it's not quite there yet: - weather doesn't work outside of the US. - regardless of settings, I can't seem to get it to prompt me more than a few times during the day. - some reports have disappeared. - editing reports is clumsy. Still promising stuff!.Version: 1.0.5

I don't get itIt looks nice, but that's about it. All I get is constant push notifications reminding me to answer the same 5 questions six times a day..Version: 1.0.6

Are There in Fact Reports? Output? It seems like a cool idea and I agree with the developer’s characterization that the input is both easy and readily adaptable. However, there seems to be no output. I’ve been putting in data for two weeks to the tune of 43 “reports” but I can find no trending data, charts, suggestions, etc. In other words it just seems like a place to store raw data. I read the FAQ and it says “trends will emerge” but nothing about how, when or the manner in which they will be displayed. It could well be user error on my part but I don’t get it. So far it is a fair amount of work with no benefit..Version: 1.2.4

Needs to sync with do not disturbThis would be better if I could sync it with my do not disturb setting overnight so I don't have to manually tell it I'm asleep every time. Otherwise pretty slick so far. My autocorrect does work ok, so not sure what the other reviews are referring to?.Version: 1.0.5

Comparisons? It would be great if you could compare two different charts visually of the same type to each other. For instance, how much coffee I drank over the week vs. how many hours I slept. Or how many hours I worked vs how many hours I surfed the Internet. These kind of comparisons would be invaluable too see in one chart..Version: 1.1.2

Like many others, i like the idea butThis app is not consumer ready. It just offers you the data you fed it in several formats. It doesn't really do anything with that data. If you're motivated to fill out the surveys several times everyday , could be interesting in the long term if you're also motivated to take that data and treat it yourself.(basically, you have a lot of work to do). Not worth 3.99$ in it's current state..Version: 1.0.7

No “insights” here. Just a tally..Yea... after using it for a few days I'm even more certain that $4 is ridiculous for this. How can it be considered to give "insights" into things you didnt think about if you have to write all the questions yourself? What am I paying $4 for? An average design for a reminder to answer 5-6 default questions. Where's the value? For someone like me that has never done this kind of thing, I have no idea what questions to ask. When it talked about "insights" and I saw the $4 price tag, I figured it would do a little more than just let me ask myself questions that I thought of.. Not only that, there really are no “insights” here at all. A tally of data is hardly worth $4. I really thought this app would do something more interesting than just grab at my wallet..Version: 1.0.5

Bad appInteresting concept. Poor design and execution. Doesn't function as the concept suggests it should. Input difficult. Location is a mess. Input options are terrible resulting in terrible data collection.. Therefore with bad data the expected reports are meaningless. Waste of time and effort..Version: 1.0.5
