Dot Melody for Positive User Reviews

What a gem!Now it is fully connected, and capable of driving other synths, this is an absolute joy to use. Also, it's really useful to mess about with song ideas, due to the super simple controls. Some apps are aimed primarily at trained musicians but Dot Melody can work for anyone with a sonic imagination. Nic.Version: 1.1

Clever left field approachInteresting graphic interface approach to step sequencing, u can get lost in this for hours and have a lot of fun..Version: 1.0.3

UniqueForces you to approach music a bit differently, which is always good. I still can't always predict what a pattern will sound like based on how it looks. It seemed like more of a toy before but Link integration makes this into an instrument you can actually jam with, and because it's so unique, it can push you in weird directions..Version: 1.1

Fun!I love the design of the app but along with that is an almost endless supply of fun. It's also quite easy to grasp and for most part pretty stable. Add Audiobus to the equation, what you end up with is ingenious way of creating music..Version: 1.0.1

Dot MelodyEasy to use. Fun to use. Works immediately without any instruction . The instructions help clarify some of the features on the program . Nice sound quality on head phones. Sounds great on the speaker system which I used through AirPlay. I understand there is a midi connection but I have not yet tried it. Simple to use and not difficult to make melodic chords and rhythm.Version: 1.0.1

Intuitive and charmingI'm a figure-holic-- this app, while not as robust, is well on its way there, AND covers things figure does not (like automated alternate time signatures and chord-switching on the fly, as well as customization based on a piano keyboard.) i'm very glad i bought it..Version: 1.0.3

Really fun10 seconds in and I’m enjoying this app a lot. It really let’s you get creative while still sounding good..Version: 1.0.3

Truly innovativeOlympia is definitely on the forefront of the most interesting and innovative interface designs out there today..Version: 1.1

Fun little sequencerGood for doodling melodies and ideas and to their credit they have midi out if you want to capture it for a different app to work on further. Give it a go!.Version: 1.0.3

Awesome appFeature rich. Very programmable and musical. Midi out, and Audiobus really expands dot Melody. Nice work Dev. Would like Audioshare as export..Version: 1.0

JoyJoy.Version: 1.1

Terrific fun awesomeIt is so much fun making music with your programs.Version: 1.1

DOTS da "T"Only my 2 or 3 review but this little twinkle bot rhythm and melody matrix is more than it seems. If you are interested in ethereal bit or any non mainstream electronic music this is a buy. Link and Audiobus ready and also secret but has midi out and can be used like a generative sequencer on 3 diff models midi channels..Version: 1.1

It works again! The latest update fixed the crashes I was experiencing in iOS 11. I’m so happy that the dev is still supporting this wonderful app!.Version: 1.1.1

Brilliant, surprising, funThis is both a fantastic tool and a delightful toy. Like everything from ONC, it sounds ridiculously good and inspires exploration and creativity..Version: 1.0.3

Such a cool little sequencer but...The internal sounds are whatever...but I come up with such cool melodies that I'd never come up with otherwise. This is so close to perfect, what it needs is A) external midi control... so you can send chord and sequences changes to keep things tight.B) Also, as I said, the external sounds are whatever, and I don't have much use for a monophonic drum sequencer, so it would be cool if you could set the green track to behave like the regular melodic tracks when sending midi out. C) Also, the ability to transpose up and down octaves when sending midi would be awesome as well. Add that and this goes from a great app to a 5 star, genius level tool for coming up with crazy inhuman melodies..Version: 1.1

Love this appGlad you made it iPad compatible!.Version: 1.1

Mr wonderfulAbsolutely wonderful. A must have!!! Pure joy. Thanks olympia!!!.Version: 1.0.3

Hypnotic!Amazin unique input app. I recommend their whole iPhone/ iPad catalog ! Limitations are amazing. Perfectly placed. This promotes creative zen :).Version: 1.0.3

FUNThis is a good tool. It's fun to use, has robust MIDI settings and versatility that could be used for many types of users, from starters to serious . With this one can use it as a quick go to app for quickly sketching simple melodies in a visual way, or use it to drive other synths or beat boxes. The built in electronic sounds nice quality and can stand on their own. The only issue I can think of is that it's optimized for an iPhone up, therefore it's sort of bulky on an iPad but a still very usable and fun! Developers: please make an iPad optimized version..Version: 1.0.2

Olympia Noise Co does it againEverything ONC releases is gold. This one is no exception. Download it now..Version: 1.1

Easy fun and deepI wasn't expecting to have this much fun with this app. Now all my friends think I'm a DJ..Version: 1.0.3

IntriguingA really elegant UI, and an interesting set of constraints for creating tunes..Version: 1.1

Out of the box thinkingI was skeptical at first reading some of the reviews...I'm glad I got dot melody. It is a wonderful little idea generator that can take you outside of your usual rhythm. It is quick to learn, easy to use, and while I usually hate IAPs, this is worth it for the small cost..Version: 1.0.2

Fantastic Midi sequencer! While rather limited as a standalone instrument, it's as a midi sequencer / arpegiator that this app really shines. The interface/workspace is amazingly well put together and intuitive... Easily in the same league as Xynthysizr, Poly, and Arpeggionome (although not quite as granular) Well worth the in app purchase! Amazingly easy to create organic yet very pleasing rhythms and short melodies. A separate out for bass /drum/lead makes it easy to send isolated signals to multiple instruments..Version: 1.0.2

Almost perfect for what it is!Thank you sooo much for giving this the iPad love! Only thing I'd ask for is the option to have chord changes synced to bar changes for smoother transitions. Oh, and the ability to trigger chord and track changes via midi. Bravo Ben! Great work as usual!.Version: 1.1

Nice melody generatorIt’s fun!.Version: 1.1.1

AUv3 Pretty Please? It’s wonderful and creative but adding AUv3 makes a workflow gem. Hoping….Version: 1.1.1

FunThis little app is a super fun sketch pad for any musician. I especially like how it promotes new ways of thinking about music, yet is still usable with traditional principles. I'm addicted to the darn thing! Haven't got the in-app midi rig, but am likely to-- just to more fully explore the app as a compositional tool with my full sound bank and Logic. Good Job, Guys!.Version: 1.0.2

AwesomeLove this app! Really good to play around with ideas then connect to any soft synth or Daw! Ace👍.Version: 1.1

GreatGreat music app. Fun to mess around with. I agree that time/progression can be a little confusing. I purchased the midi add on and I'm confused on how to design a tone.Version: 1.0.1

Nice sounds - promising, but interface a little confusingDot Melody is an interesting app that allows you to create musical patterns quickly and with a unique interface. The visuals of the app are interesting, but it can be confusing if you have a specific progression in mind to try and create that with the grid. Placing dots left or right on the grid changes the length of each note, while going up and down changes the pitch within a selected scale. Except that notes lower on the grid are higher in pitch, and you can't really predict what a pattern will sound like from the visual representation. You can create custom scales, and there are quite a few instruments, so there's some unique possibilities. Some people have compared this app to Propellerhead's "Figure", but it seems a little more random than that. Basically, you just place a series of dots on the grid and move things around hoping to come up with something new. I do think this is an interesting creative tool, and it has tons of features including a note sequencer. It's just a bit of a steep learning curve, which I have yet to master. I also note that Virtual MIDI output is an intriguing option for this type of app, but it is an in-app purchase for $1.99. Not a huge cost, but beware of that separate purchase if you intend on using the app with other synths..Version: 1.0.1

The most easy music software for none musiciensI have always wanted to learn and make music, and never got it, now with this software I start understanding right away. This software worth every penny. I just wish they will make more software with different sound... Thanks guy beautiful work.Version: 1.1

Great standalone and controllerGreat app, easy to use as a standalone tune maker. Nice range of internal sounds which combine to produce some very cool tunes. Fluid, intuitive controls that will suit beginners or more advanced users. Use the MIDI IAP to control other synths and you have a powerful app indeed. It looks fantastic on an iPad already but an update is on it's way which will enhance this..Version: 1.0.1

Original mobile grooveboxOlympia Noise Co are true innovators in software musical instruments. They have a track record consisting of the outstanding Patterning drum sequencer as well as Ribbon (fka Ondes) and Chordion. dot Melody is a stripped back groovebox with a twist, the sequencer's interface is activated by a blank grid where you drop, tap and drag interconnected dots. Like Allihoopa's Figure, dot Melody may feel like too much of a toy on an iPad, on the iPhone it makes much more sense as a simple sketch pad for tight moments. Ideal for commuting or being creative in private spaces (ahem.) With its preset sounds you can focus on song structures and progressions with its easy to use pattern bank. However like Figure, it would be greatly improved with a export or multichannel record feature like say in ElasticDrums or audio output per channel like in Patterning. Then the sketches whipped up on your tea break could be uploaded to dissected and fleshed out on a DAW. Apps like this are often caught in a space where they conform to a preset ecosystem making them feel like toys but for them to evolve into bridges to professional tools, these kinds of exports could be great outlets. But toys are fun and the appeal of dot Melody is its dot chaining interface, a new way to play music. A huge feature is that it can even be used as a 3 channel MIDI controller for other apps or with the help of a MIDI interface could be used to control 3 hardware instruments! Olympia Noise Co deserve recognition along side developers like apeSoft for really pushing the boundaries of creating music on tablets and smartphones..Version: 1.1
