Ribbons : Touch Instrument for Positive User Reviews

It's a niche product, but a good oneI've felt conflicted about how I feel regarding Ondes. I didn't buy it immediately, but definitely kept my eye on it from Day One. Even now that I own it, I'm not exactly sure how to use it in my music. But if you watch some of the demos and like what you see and hear, I feel like it is a 5-star app with a unique interface and resulting sound. The "slider" interface is very attractive looking, but it's not really an "innovation" for this app. ThumbJam, Bebot, Figure, SynthX, and on and on have all used some variation of this control scheme, which works great on an iPad. Unfortunately, MIDI out control is not in the works at this time, but perhaps in the future. So the usefulness of Ondes will mostly depend on its unique internal sounds. I will say that the presets don't offer a huge array of variety, but there is a synthesis engine within your app, which is what differs it from something like ThumbJam, which is sample-based. So you make your own sounds. Really liked the slider controls and variation of "snap to" as you cross over note lines. You can have a meandering almost sci-fi sounding pitch, or snappier transitions that land on the exact note. It's a beautifully put-together app with some unique sounds, and I value it as much for its originality as the end "usefulness". I would not want this as my primary instrument app, but as an add-on for unique leads and cool atmospheric stuff, it's great..Version: 1.0

Good Update with MIDIHaving different scales and being able to adjust the touches to snap to a scale or slide between notes while controlling volume and pitch wheel of another midi app is great. There are good instructions on how to use these new features as well as their limitations. Having most of the screen to control your playing is nice and it's easy to navigate to different octaves on the keyboard. Using Ondes with a couple of synths or effects in Audiobus enables you to get creative with sonic textures. You can saves presets which include Ondes settings and midi connections..Version: 1.1

Love the bendinessAny chance of MIDI Out some day? :).Version: 1.0

Unusual sound canvasHaving downloaded this application with a little uncertainty, I needed it for the vast sound armoury that I use for sound design, a little like foley. I must say it is amazing value for money and the sounds are extremely powerful. This can only get better no doubt, so LONG as the ability to use on existing platforms remains and we don't have to keep buying update equipment just to continue using it. I give this 10/10 for its depth and creativity. Nobody here knows my cinematography status, so take this as a neutral view. Worth buying without a doubt..Version: 1.1

Beautiful UIThe UI teaches you how to use it AND what it does. Simply elegant. Beautiful sounds. Process this with FX! Can't wait to play this through a tube amp. Bravo! This is worth the price alone just to see what iOS apps are SUPPOSED to be like..Version: 1.1

Beautiful! This is a superbly designed and implemented virtual instrument. The sound is beautifully crystalline and the user interface is one of the most elegant and intuitive I've seen. My other favourites are Animoog and iVCS3, for satisfying playability and sound inspiration this is the equal of either of those..Version: 1.0

Great theremin appBrilliant!.Version: 1.2

I just wish i wasn’t in an old mini ipadGoooood lord: this app is amazing for the price. i was looking for a ribbon controller to send midi into my modular analog rig (which it totally does with the right tools), but i have been spending most of my time with it within its own synth, because the digital synth itself is shockingly robust, and it’s amazing to have endlessly polyphonic ribbon control!.Version: 1.4

Super-great!If there isn't an Ondes iOS Orchestra already, there should be. A gorgeous use of an iPad..Version: 1.1

Awesome sounds !Cool app with nice features, definitely recommend to check out !.Version: 1.4

Very neatAnother cool new way to interface with melody. I dig it..Version: 1.1

Sweet appI like it a lot!.Version: 1.1

ExcellentSo far I love it. The Singing Room preset is wild. I'll probably use this app for tunes and meditating. 🎼💌🎹.Version: 1.1

Buy ThisThis app is a Joy-Buy It. I love it! No the developer is not related to me & no I don't owe Him,Her, any money. Look if you want to have way too much fun, stop reading this and buy this app. : ).Version: 1.1

Couldn't be happierThis is my favorite instrument app by far. The only competition it has in quality are Animoog, tc, and Orphion, and really anyone interested in using the iPad as a musical instrument should have all off them. I like them all, but find myself drawn more and more to the sound and simplicity of ondes as well as the intuitive controls over the excellent sounding filters and effects. This is what a mature ipad musical app should be and with the new update, swarm oscillators and midi functionality this is the yardstick of quality going forward..Version: 1.1

Gorgeous, haunting, beautifulA “desert island” app if there ever was one.Version: 1.2

The easiestThis is the easiest of my iPad synths to play. Lots of fun. Great interface..Version: 1.1

Lovely synthThanks, well worth the money. Keep up the updates!.Version: 1.1

EPIC. Stupefying. Edificatious! This may be my favorite music app of all time, up there with GESTRUMENT and a couple others. Thank you so much for making it!.Version: 1.1

Versatile App!There’s something eerie about this app that makes you want to come back to it. I especially the fact that you can change the temperament. There’s not as many options as Synth One, but the ones available are an interesting variety..Version: 1.4

One of my favouritesReally gets to the core of the ribbon controller. Easy to use, god sound design capabilities, solid MIDI out capabilities. Glad to see it get an update!.Version: 1.2

Wonderful musical instrumentIt borrows from many other alternative instrument apps, yet still has a unique sound and interface that is a blast to use and make beautiful music with; or ugly noise if that's what you prefer. Very easy to program and play. Can't poke any holes in it yet. Well done..Version: 1.1

Great app that just got even betterThis is a fantastic expressive and very flexible instrument. The new hold and swarm features set this apart from the others. Being able to hold a chord and then manipulate individual notes within it is exceptional. If those notes have swarm applied then the sonic possibilities are wonderful. I cannot recommend this app enough..Version: 1.1

Niche, but good niche...like my own little Ondes Martenot, but on my iPad Pro. Fun to just mess around with, or go deep and record with..Version: 1.2

Brilliant app!Connected to a Dave smith p12 module ! It's awesome!!.Version: 1.1

Terrific Performance ToolA great instrument to riff on and play leads with. Easy interface as well. 5 out of 5 highly recommend!.Version: 1.4

Perfect AppThis is an excellent app that deserves more attention. It does exactly what it promises — and very well! It was exactly what I was looking for and more. The main drawcard is the fantastic interface. It allows complete hands-on freedom of pitch — something that isn’t offered in many, if any, apps/programs/plugins. In addition to this, the synthesis and effects are decent as well, and for the low price, there is a delightfully vast range of customisable settings to get the sound and functionality perfect to suit your use. It’s not a full-featured DAW or complex synthesiser, but rather it has one primary function, and it performs that function extremely well..Version: 1.4

Ribbons rules!Best polyphonic ribbon controller ever...cool voices...excellent editing...so great....Version: 1.4

Just beautiful. This has really come on in the 1.1 update. I’m using it with several Ableton Operator instances controlled over MIDI using my iConnect 4+, and using the mod wheel mapping to cutoff and lfos you can get some outstanding sounds and expressions. It’s deepened the app exponentially and in my opinion it’s an essential purchase now, for the price. The midi output seems pretty stable, you use it with separate channels for each finger. I’ve gone with up to six MIDI inputs into Ableton. The app itself has some lovely sounds and is a fine synth, but the new features blow it out of the water..Version: 1.1

Excellent app!I really love this app, it's intuitive and easy to get started making a wide range of rich textures. It also has a depth that is especially pleasing to me as a long time synthesis artist and software engineer. The interface is one of my favorite features, it's easy to play and the number of ways one can add expressions to the performance is remarkable and inspiring. I love it! Highly recommended!.Version: 1.0

Very great appVery great app, midi powerful..Version: 1.1

Sounds good, needs MIDILoved Chordion. Thought this was a little overpriced. It sounds good but lacks midi control..Version: 1.0

Unique performance app and midi controllerThere's a subtle art to playing this app that defines it as its own instrument. With some practice, it's a very expressive and fun simple synth. Alternately, it's an crazy unique midi controller for other apps or equipment..Version: 1.1

5 starsJust what I've been looking for :).Version: 1.1

Really excellent appVery nice and playable interface. Synth engine is nicely musical..Version: 1.4

Good stuff!Expressive, easy-to-use instrument that sounds and looks great. What's not to like? I'm sure my band will be using this for recording and live performance..Version: 1.0

Rather lovelyI really like music apps that properly embrace the touchscreen functionality and Ondes certainly does that. It comes with a nice list of factory presets and lots of space to create your own with plenty of variable parameters. The sounds are crisp and deep. And there's polyphony which other Ondes/Theremin emulators just don't have. Overall, great!.Version: 1.0

My new "secret weapon"I have been searching for an app like this for a year and half. 3 minutes in and I'm in love. For people that are out off by the price, rest assured that if you want to quickly and easily create spaced out, retro sounding sci-fi tones, this is easily the best $8 you could ever spend..Version: 1.0
