✓ Ads with paid subscription.Unsubscribed after two days… Everything else was just what I was looking for. But having unknown podcasts show up in my follow lists and suggested podcasts in my library, I cancelled. I know what I want to listen to. I don’t need anyone cluttering up my feeds with suggestions of what a podcast player thinks I should listen to. That’s a hard no from me..Version: 5.0.14
✓ Latest update with ads is creating problemsI’ve used app for a few years and always been happy with it. After the latest update, I noticed ads on the bottom of my screen. Ok, I can put up with that, for a free app. But then, Norton kept giving me alerts about blocking unsafe sites. What unsafe site? I’m not trying to go to that site! Finally figured out it happens when I have this app open. So I’m uninstalling it today. Very disappointed..Version: 4.3.9

✓ The sponsored podcasts (aka ads) ruined the experienceI happily used and loved PlayerFM for probably around 4 years and had a paid account almost from day 1. But they started putting “sponsored podcasts” (podcasts shown to users after payment to PlayerFM, which realistically are advertisements) in various parts of the app, including search results. It became too annoying seeing an ad as the first result in EVERY search I did. So I looked around and, much to my surprise, found a podcast app I like more. After 4 years I thought I’d be using PlayerFM until I or the company died, whichever comes first, but the frequent ads where what killed the experience for me. If you don’t mind the ads even with a paid account, it’s a great app and service..Version: 5.0.14

✓ Terrible AppI have been trying to use this app for a month or so and every time I use it doesn’t start my podcast till like 5 minutes of me pressing play, when I’m on long car rides I will be in the middle of a podcast and it will jump all the way to the beginning for no reason at all. ✓ Use to be good but just ok now.Use to be good but just ok now. A big plus is it has a web interface which few do. If streaming, sometimes doesn't have speed playback. On iPhone, stutters while on speaker. On Bluetooth, sometimes doesn't play when press play button or loses its place and starts over. Popups to subscribe to PlayerFM. ✓ Unexpected chargeI downloaded this app a year ago and have never used it. Also, never signed up for an account or subscription and have just been charged £47.99! I’m trying to get a refund and to delete this app from my Apple account . Terrible user experience..Version: 4.3.7
✓ Latest update took a 2 star app to 1, should really be zero!The new design/layout makes buttons unpressable/completely disabled in the list view. The play button is almost impossible to press and the three “...” settings button cannot be pressed at all while in list view. This used to only occur with the show on the bottom of the list in the previous version. You now have to open each show individually to gain full functionality of the play/settings buttons. Why do you make things worst with each update? Regardless of the ‘new’ look... its just a facade to cover up issues you still have not properly addressed. Also resuming shows STILL does not work as it used to years ago. You still have to play a different show to try ensure your current show resumes from where you let off, what a hassle! Maple Media deserves an award for taking decent apps and magically turning them into trash. I would suggest looking at Maple Media’s Glassdoor page as well. They treat their employees/devs poorly and seem like an awful company to work for, it truly reflects in quality of their products..Version: 5.0.4

✓ Good feature but has annoying bugsThe app is well designed and works well except for 1 very annoying thing. During the playback if I send the audio to a Chromcast device, the display get garbled, and the only way to restore that is to kill the app. happens many times a day, super annoying..Version: 4.2.6
✓ So many bugsI downloaded this app after Acast became unavailable (an app I never had any issues with). This app has so many bugs! Some shows just won’t play. Some shows just stop mid sentence and won’t play any more. I can’t keep the grid view permanently. I can’t play from the home screen etc. So annoying..Version: 5.0.14

✓ Too many bugs, Too hard to add podcastsHad to try several times before OPML worked, still didn’t add several podcasts and can’t find them through search. Tried adding them through the podcasts RSS feed still not able to add or find several podcasts. ✓ Amazing Features But…I absolutely love so many things about this app and would recommend everyone trying it out for a few weeks. The app does a great job in helping you discover new podcast and ones that are very much related to the ones you already love. The app does an amazing job in helping you find new podcast however, there is one problem that is very annoying. It seems very slow in bringing in new episodes. I use a lot of different podcast apps. Player FM is almost always behind in bringing in new episodes. For many people this may not be a big deal but I like getting the new episodes as soon as they drop, this is especially true all of all the news podcasts I subscribe to. I wasn’t able to find anything that indicates how frequently the app refreshes to find the latest episodes. Also It seems on Apple devices that I am not receiving notifications that new episodes are available. I think Player FM has some very good features and everyone should give it a try. However, getting the new episodes as soon as possible and a good notification system seems to be lacking from the app currently. Hopefully, some of these issues will be improved soon and then I could enthusiastically offer a 5 star rating..Version: 5.0.14
✓ Layout issues“Forgot password” leads to a field where I can’t put in information so I have to create a nee account. When I opened the app, the login button was partially hiding underneath “login with Google or Apple “ After installing new, the forgot password leads to no useful choices… should be just a field with an email to enter but again it is masked by other functions (“open in browser or app?” although app is already open… very confusing.Version: 5.0.25
✓ Used to be one of my go-to appsHaving used several podcatchers over the years, PlayerFM was very convenient for its web interface. Sync with my portable didn’t always operate seamlessly, but I could work around it. When Maple Media bought the app, they put in place terms of use that are unacceptable to me. Given that there are more highly rated sites offering identical service, it didn’t make sense to stick with them. I’m currently very happy with Pocket Casts, in part because it’s owned by public broadcasters. It’s an excellent app..Version: 4.4.1
✓ Shop around... maybe there is a better appThe most annoying feature is the apps inability to screen and remove audio advertisements from a pod cast. Don’t believe the pitifully long and off topic answer shown on the app’s FAQs concerning advertising as other apps such as Stitcher when run parallel with is app has NO inserted advertisements. The next annoyance is the premium service, for example, an inquiry as why a pod cast of such date time and sequence was missing, the reply was, essentially, can you fix it for us..Version: 4.2.10
✓ Not bad but some bugsUpdate 19 July 2021 Issues listed below are still happening and no response from the developer. So far it is one of the better podcast apps for the features that do work. But there are some issues. - When listening via Bluetooth, in my case my car, it will loose it’s place in the podcast and start over when the Bluetooth connection breaks then starts. This happens when I leave my car then get back in. It makes me not want to listen via Bluetooth - During play and when the screen is locked (iPhone), the app will stop playing without touching the phone. It does not appear to have anything to do with emails or other notifications, not sure what is causing it. It happens at different lengths of times. ✓ Half decent podcast app......But if you prefer an app that doesn’t randomly lose your place in an episode for no reason, rather go somewhere else. ✓ Bugs galore and failed support promisesI loved this app. It's heartbreaking how much the quality has deteriorated. Want to sync subscriptions? Prepare to be logged out before it completes. Done listening to an episode and ready for the next? Good luck getting out of the player view without force-quitting the app. Even after paying for premium support my bug reports go unanswered and the issues continue to pile up. ✓ Good interface, but buggyThis has the cleanest interface of any podcast app I’ve used. I just wish it was more reliable. The most annoying problem is that sometimes the rewind and fast forward buttons don’t do what they’re supposed to. I think this gets triggered if a phone call comes in while I’m listening, but I’m not sure. It gets to a state where rewind always takes me back to the same spot. since I often use rewind to replay a passage when something has distracted me, this is a very disappointing bug. No matter how I set the settings, it always waits until I open the app before downloading new episodes. That’s really annoying because I only open the app when I’m ready to start listening, and I have to wait for my downloads!.Version: 5.0.23
