✓ The computerize pronunciation is terribleThe old app had actual native speakers said the words out loud to help you learn the correct terms/language with the update it’s all digitized and computerized and you can’t understand what the digitized voice is saying. ✓ Not the bestMy partners SA/Afrikaans and this app doesn't make it easy to catch the right pronunciation so even he was sat here saying he could barely catch what the voice was saying on the app. The male robotic voice really doesn’t pronounce words well so that you can hear him and speak it properly. The functioning of the app is great and simple to use but I wont be paying for it if its not going to be clear on how to speak the language. Apart from learning with my partner this was just so I could get some extra practice alone.. but not if its going to teach me wrong. Its probably better if you are just looking to learn to communicate in writing rather than speaking..Papajons4evaVersion: 7.1.13

✓ Words don’t always match speechI use duolingo for French and tried this free app for Afrikaans. I know Afrikaans from my years growing up in SA and brushing it up just for fun. I feel confident at intermediate level. But I’m English and still pick up odd spelling and grammar errors. For instance the voice says Ek wil ń tjek wissel vir kontant but the word choice is not 'wissel' but 'verruil'. I’ve already reported two errors. It grates on me because I signed up for the year and only realised I’d paid the full annual Price, not £3.99 pm as suggested. And I’m reporting errors! I’ve tried the French. It’s seven little lessons in one go. Not enough. With duo you get a lot of tips etc. This has no proper tips and the way duolingo works is they ease you into difficult stages but here you are thrown some heavy grammar immediately even on easy level. Seven lessons are too short. I’m doing ok with the French due to 2 years of duolingo but the beginner lessons still stump me on this app. Not sure if I like it..KarindltVersion: 7.1.13

✓ Needs some workI’m a paying subscriber for some time. This is one of the few apps that offer some decent lessons in afrikaans. It is generally ok when in works and I've learnt a lot. However, there are many broken lessons. You open them and there's no sound and no images to display. For the amount of money asked, that is not acceptable. ✓ Robot voiceLove the option to view verb tenses. The neuro-map is super interesting. Review is fun! Love the chat option, but it could be more natural by picking up where I leave off, letting me speak instead of write, and letting me choose responses without hints or strict guidelines. ✓ Good but could be betterThis app is good for beginners and learning the basics but that is all, after a couple of days you find that you are hit at a paywall where to actually progress you have to pay £9.99 a month which is a fair price, my only issue is that for this £9.99 what you get is essentially something google translate can tell you for free, they even use the same text to speech bot, i wish they would implement a more free version where you watch ads to unlock certain subjects to allow those without the money to be able to further their learning without being restricted to only the daily lessons and a singular day of premium every 7 days, all in all it’s a fun app but i do wish it felt less robotic and more human!.DeadMemeArtistVersion: 7.1.13

✓ Learning from scratch but robotic male voice not helping.I like the way this app has been set up but the biggest downfall is the robotic male voice which seems to be used more than the female voice. Had seen comments re this before I purchased the app but was hoping that one could choose between male/female voice. Not the case. Developers please take note. It is very difficult to pick up correct pronunciation from a robot - I am very keen to learn to speak Afrikaans as I am now living in a very Afrikaans community and want to speak it properly.
