5 Minute Journal: Self-Care for Negative User Reviews

Really DisappointingI am so disappointed that I have lost all of my previous journal entries with your new upgrade. And on top of that after the free trial has expired you want me to pay! I have two stars because I thought you were fantastic before but the loss of a whole years worth of entries after I logged in and being stuck on a trial means it’s just two stars from me and a warning to others not to download..Version: 3.0.1

Do not buy it’s a scamI cannot believe I fell for this and that Apple is allowing this to happen on their platform. I paid for the app. Now to be able to continue to use the app I have to pay $31.99 per year. The app should be free if you need to pay a yearly subscription to use it. And it feels particularly gross that a company called “Intelligent Change” would take advantage of this self help industry in this way. You are better off just writing in your notes app with all the same prompts. Extremely disappointed..Version: 3.4.3

Disappointing updatePaid for and was attracted to this app initially because it wasn’t a subscription and only brought it a couple of months ago. Now the update has changed it to a subscription service. Ok we’ve been offered a year but given the original app was meant to be a one off payment for lifetime use the fact that after this free year it’ll have less functionality than the original (ie adding one picture) is not cool and offering a lot less than lots of other apps out there. Suspect you’ll be loosing a lot of users from this! On top of this it now doesn’t actually work (for existing users at least) - had to remove the new account it randomly created and still waiting my “few minutes” for my account to sync over 24 hours later!.Version: 3.0

Terrible. AVOID THIS APP.I bought the app a month ago, and with the new update all of my memories are wiped. I read the other reviews and the developer response on how to get my old entries back, and I warn you people: IT HASNT WORKED. HORRIBLE. DO NOT BUY. I’m so upset that some precious memories and photos are gone. Disgusted..Version: 3.0

Fun while it lastedWelp it was fun while it lasted, since the money grab update I can’t use it anymore customer service is not responding and I have lost all my data.Version: 3.0.1

Good but…I would love to switch to this app, but having been invested in Day One since 2013, I have to decline as there is no way to import another journal app into this one. If you want people to come from other journal apps you have to offer an import feature. I have thousands of entries and it make them all pointless to switch to this one..Version: 3.5.3

Was a great app before the update.Shame I had to change to morning gratitude instead. This one was so good before the update, nice and minimal and I paid for features that got taken away, did even think that was legal. Not a great move at all from the developers, seems like a lot of people are in the same boat..Version: 3.1.1

Enjoyed for a long time, however…I really am thankful to have this app to record gratefulness! 😉I’ve never been able to enjoy journaling, but this app hits the spot. I even ask for family responses when they are around when recording my day. The trouble started, as with most things tech, when things changed in the interface. I liked the previous version screen look better- this one is dark and the page doesn’t fit! I wonder if I can reduce the font of question prompt? It takes up the whole screen and I cannot focus wholly on my three entries. Also, how do I add photos now? I did pay for a subscription so this should be a part of my use? I want to be able to go back and reflect on the days gone by sometimes… and a photo is a wonderful way to do this for me. My previous version photos imported, although in no particular order, but I cannot see how to insert or take a new photo. (My kids get more reflection on their past moments using Snapchat! Ugh!) if this is user error, forgive me. But help, please! Thanks so much!.Version: 3.1

App is glitching very oftenUnfortunately, there are so many times when app is glitching and it makes me very upset. First, very often if you write a lot of point in one of the points, app glitches and deletes everything. Same story may happen when you filling form close to midnight And secondly and most upsetting, if you have journal for quite a while and you have a memory of what happened a year ago - you are trying to open the photo but app simply won’t do it. Just blank black screen. And now it happens to pretty much every single my memory :( So even though the idea is good, app is glitching way too often :(.Version: 3.6.35

New updateOk can I just say that I’ve loved this app and been using it for about 2 years now, and as much as I get bored of things quickly, this app made journaling seem more casual and quick and I would go on often to write any small thing that happened in the day. But the new update ruined it all. Not only did my entries disappeared and I have no way getting it back, you now can’t add any photos unless you get the premium, which I think is stupid because pictures were a nice visual way for me to see what happened that day and without images, it looks boring with a bunch of text. I’m also opposed to the new icon design; it was much simpler and pleasing to the eye the way it was before. Although I know I can’t get my entries back, I really hope you fix this. The.Version: 3.0

Suggested class action against the developersHave read all the reviews and I am also not a happy customer. Perhaps all customers who purchased the app would like to look into a class action. Need to check Australian consumer laws first..Version: 3.0.2

Really disappointedI loved the old version, and would happily try the new version if support would respond to my support requests. I’ve logged my journal daily for around 4 years, five minute journal was a well-ingrained ritual. The update to the subscription model has been incredibly poorly communicated - I just logged in one day to the news, and the account migration froze for hours. I’ve since lost 4 years of data, which I’ve contacted support about numerous times with no response. I’m so disappointed that this change has been so poorly handled and that support doesn’t seem to exist..Version: 3.0.3

New updateI really enjoyed 2.0 as I’ve struggled to physically write a journal so morning/ evening notifications made it really easy for me. Frustrated about the new update as was using the journal to get through my dad passing away and trying to find gratitude in difficult days. Still waiting to see if my data will be successfully transferred across after quite a while now. Annoying that I had to pay for the app and now I have to pay for a subscription (albeit in a year). Will be using to make the most of subscription and then finding another journaling app instead. Sad I’ll be losing something that was so helpful. Sorry guys, this wasn’t a great update ☹️.Version: 3.0

Bad upgradeLike others the recent change in app meant that I lost all my entries. Plus now they expect a subscription payment when the reason I paid for the app was because there was no subscription. The developers have poorly rolled out this change in app for existing users and new users should be wary as this could happen again. I’ll be looking at other apps with more long term reliability..Version: 3.0

New update not workingThe new update loaded by it self without any choice to keep the old one. It’s been stuck now for two days trying to upload content from old version without any luck. Can’t go back nor skip forward and if you want to try reload it you will loose all content. Really disappointed by this as have been loving the app and using it every day and now days gone past without being able to get into it. This needs to be sorted out ASAP, or the good reputation will be lost.Version: 3.0

Not worth itDisappointed after trying premium. I have no problem paying for premium features, but the value should be proportionate to the cost. Given the quality of numerous similar apps that are free or have a small one-time IAP, the cost/value of this app is disappointing at best. To be clear, I like the app, but the value derived for the cost is disproportionately low compared to free or much less expensive apps with like or better features. This Dev’s data collection practices are concerning, as well. When users are adding private and sensitive information, companies that collect user data should provide clear unambiguous details to their users. This company does not. If you are using this app, I encourage you to seek complete transparency from the company related to the collection and use of your data..Version: 3.6.40

App is now a subscription serviceA couple of months ago I purchased the app as a one time purchase. It is now a subscription service and I’m extremely disappointed that my one time purchase isn’t credited towards the app. I’ve only been using it for a short while and enjoy using the app. But I feel like I’ve lost some money thinking it was going to be a one time purchase only..Version: 3.0.3

Disappointing!I bought this app outright a year ago and was later contacted that it was changing to a subscription service and I would now have to pay a monthly or yearly subscription fee! Very very disappointing and flies in the face of what I had understood to be an ethical organisation..Version: 3.4

Don’t. Burn. User. Trust.I have no problem with subscriptions. I have no problems with major updates that require a new purchase or subscription. However, I have major issues with developers making wholesale changes, with zero warning, that I’m forced to sign up to simply to access what I’d previously written. Surely developers know that switches like this rarely end up in anything but a review dump, mass exodus, and a lot of bad pr online? It’s so simple: release 3.0 and leave a non supported legacy version of 2.0. This way you don’t anger the majority of your users and anyone who was likely to subscribe would do so, as they wanted to, not because they were forced. 1 year free was not a smart play here unless you’ve been purchased by one of the many competitors now who you’ve just sent people to..Version: 3.0

DisappointedIt use to be a great app. The new model is not bad, but not great. Unlike a lot of people I did not loose my data. I have not used this product since the change. Only reason I still have it is to transfer data to DayOne which I like much better. It is about the same price but has more features I like. The new format is just not to my liking. It use to be simple but they have added even more junk entries. They have also taken away the ability to insert pictures. They have a yearly fee and a forever fee. Unfortunately, I also do not trust them any more. When I originally bought it they said it was forever. Now they say another $75 and it is forever. If they changed there minds once on a forever purchase they will probably do it again..Version: 3.1.1

Not happy with the changes made to the appYour original app was much better and a lot more effective. The new format is not at all appealing. What I am most shocked and sad about is that I have lost all the data - all my journal entries and pics over the last 2 years. You changed the app without any prior warning and now even though I’ve logged in I have no access to my journal entries. It’s a shame ☹️ You’re obviously looking to make money. I don’t see why I have to pay to use the app the way I was using it earlier. I had already paid you for the app 2 years ago!! Very bad experience. Your new app is not even as appealing as the original 😕.Version: 3.0

All changed?I paid for the full version and now it’s changed completely? I should have the option to retain the old version. All my entries are gone too. I’ve been using it for years, I diarised my last days with my grandma, my graduations and my first day at my new job. It’s all gone and I feel shattered..Version: 3.0

Not compatible on Mac - misleading descriptionI downloaded the app after reading the following description. Compatible With Any Device or platform: Use it on iPhone app, iPad app and Apple Watch companion app. Description could be improved to not use the word Any device or platform. It's good they do specify the devices but I'm sure most would overlook as I did..Version: 3.6.6

Feel as if robbedI had “bought” this app a couple of years ago and had enjoyed using it, finding it easy and enjoyable. Then came the upgrade. 1. All the options I believed I had paid for was taken away, and I’m told I now have to pay yearly for what I had paid for, it’s sort of like selling someone a convertible then telling them two years later they now have to pay an extra fee to put the roof up and down. They offer a free year but I’m going to take a hard pass on that. I have since deleted the app and gone to another 5 minute type app which has the ease and simplicity I used to like in this app. Which brings me to: 2. The new version seems clunky to me. While the old version was simple and straightforward the new one is too fancy for my liking, it’s as if they had to invent a reason to charge you for something that you already paid for. I am very disappointed in the app and would discourage anyone from using it..Version: 3.0.2

Wishing for more simplicityI’ve been using 5 minute journal for nearly five years now and I loved the app prior to this update for its simplicity. There used to be the option to turn off the quotes, I wish that was still the case. They’ve also added a mood tracker which I wish I could disable as well. I also wish I could disable the daily memories saying “3 years ago…” without having to I click “X” on them every single day. I just wish it was more simplified like it used to be. All I want is the prompts, that’s it. I just wish I could disable all of the new bells and whistles because they just distract from the main experience of writing the journal entry. Overall, I really enjoy the new UI though, just wish I didn’t have so many steps before getting to the prompts..Version: 3.1.1

So much potentialThis app is frustratingly getting worse with time. It used to be simple and highly functional (and subscription-free). In their quest to add more features, they’ve made the basic journaling process more complicated. There are long-standing bugs, like blurry images in the timeline, that don’t get fixed. There is no support for journaling on a Mac..Version: 3.6.32

Disgraceful.I purchased this app a few years ago, when it was a simple one-time-purchase. The latest update has taken features away from me, and put them behind a subscription paywall. I have no issue with you adding new premium features to the app, but to turn your back on people who made a one-time-purchase is not only false advertising, but a clear breach of the App Store review guidelines. I respect that you need to generate income to continue supporting the app - but I suggest you do this by adding new features, rather than putting features that your customers previously paid for behind a paywall..Version: 3.5.1

Update is brokenI paid for the app a few years ago and now the features I paid for are locked behind a subscription model. I don’t want new features so I’d like to see if I can adjust to the basic plan, but I will be pursuing another app over considering any sort of subscription for something I already paid for. I understand the financial benefits of the corporate subscription model, but there are many other apps that made this transition in a more consumer friendly fashion. Namely, not locking people out of their accounts for updating and providing all of the classic content for legacy users for free while giving users the option to upgrade to Premium for new features and to support the devs. A year free trial of the premium plan does not compensate for this. Sure, this version is more financially sustainable regardless of how many people leave the app; I just won’t personally be a part of it..Version: 3.0.3

DisappointingI paid for this app and have been using it for years, and now with the latest upgrade i’ve learned that I’ll now have to pay a subscription. I was happy with the app and features I paid for, this is a highly unethical bait and switch. Avoid at all costs..Version: 3.1.1

Pay for an app and then it turns into a subscriptionThis was great and something I used daily at one point, now existing features like attaching a photo and removing the affirmation segment are locked behind a paywall. This isn’t the first time this has happened to me with an App I’ve paid for, when moving from up-front payment to sub, developers should be forced to release a separate app, and the sub can stand on its own merit, it’s a dirty move to cash in on the previous 5 star reviews..Version: 3.3

I loved this up until nowI’ve been using this app for over 4 years. Loved it, paid for a life time membership. Recent update forces you into a membership, no real updates the app still functions the same, they removed some of the features from the life time membership version like photos so you have to subscribe to the new version. Pretty slimy move. You guys went the wrong way about doing this, pretty much ripped off your existing client base who should be the ones you protect the most believing in your product from the beginning and helped spread the word. Very disappointed, in the end if the day I just want the product i originally paid for, The 5 minute Journal..Version: 3.0.2

End of an era: all downhill from here, eh?Went from being minimalist and clean (honestly - perfect - best app design of all the apps I've ever used) to having the same design ethic as the similarly declining Headspace layouts - cluttered, busy, and attention-draining despite supposedly promoting mindfulness and centeredness. And it has to LOAD entries now if I scroll. There were no load times before. I used to use the app more for written journaling but the past couple years have been using it to select a photo/painting a day as a visual diary, and with this update the galleries (both stacked and tiled) went from being flush and beautiful to full of rounded padding and wasted space. I'm not sure which view looks uglier now. Bonus: I have the option of giving them subscription money for this disappointment a year from now. I think the company's business strategy wasn't successful at getting as many new downloads as before so now they're switching gears to just kicking back and squeezing existing users for cash. These are simply the "whatever justifies a subscription" changes and supposed upgrades they've come up with. I'm assuming more extra super cool features are incoming to bloat the whole thing more to be able to compete with the Instagrams and TikToks of our parasitic attention economy. I'll be looking for clean and beautiful alternatives, and if you value that sort of thing, I suggest you do too..Version: 3.0

Account Data Transfer in ProgressMy ritual for this point in my day, I would be doing my morning entry in my 5 Min Journal. Instead I am leaving a review. I love the five minute journal! I have been using it for years, both the book and the app. A month or two ago when intelligent change requested a survey of how they might improve the five minute journal I spent time offering constructive feedback. I did not imagine that this update would be forced (I did not choose the app update, I saw that the app icon had changed and opened it to find that I could no longer access my account, my entries, my photos) or that the changes would be motivated by increasing their revenue. I paid for a previous version of the app and was pleased with the functions that it offered. My frustration is compounded because at this point when I open the app the only message I receive is ‘account data transfer in progress’. I am unable to add any new entries. What makes all of this feel ugly is that the change seems to be motivated by money. I feel a loss of gratitude. I feel the need to find a new resource. Which is disappointing since I buy cases of the book version of the journal to provide to clients..Version: 3.0

Old version betterThe daily journal section is not nearly as nice to use. An upgrade so you can try to change a subscription. Is not a good upgrade of the platform is not as nice or easy to use. Bring back at least the daily entry platform from older version. Major fail..Version: 3.0.2

$5-10 for a real paper journal $50 PER YEAR?I’d be willing to pay a one time fee possibly up to 19.99 but upon seeing the sheer volume amount of people complaining about how the app used to be this pay once style and is now pay per view style…..I read the intro, saw the subscription price and put my mind in a logical philosophical stance. More expensive than paper bound? Are you for real? How gullible are customers? How greedy are developers? I deleted this as quick as it was to install. For $100 you can own (for life) personal meditation videos that you always has access to..Version: 3.5

Good App. However would really like to be able to access this on my M1 macbook and in a browserI like the app. But I don’t like having to do all my entries through a virtual phone or iPad keyboard. Would be great if the developer could “tick the button” to allow the app to work on the apple silicon macs..Version: 3.0.2

Sorry to see this new design.I was using this app for the minimalist feeling it gave. It was simple enough just to focus on the content. Sorry to see this new design, not minimalist anymore. I’m missing the old design which was nice. The subscription model has changed, as well; so as a premium user, I will have to pay more after one year just to upload pictures..Version: 3.0

Bait and switch?I purchased this app and was very pleased with how easy it was to use, the look and feel, and being able to look back at my entries and photos. It was an unpleasant surprise to wake up one morning and find that it had changed, with no notice, no instructions and on top of that, the features that had come with the original purchase you now need to subscribe for. What a complete disappointment. Interesting choice of logo and I am not sure that the added features are worth the subscription. Sadly I will no longer be using this app..Version: 3.0

Not what I expected but probably what I need*Updated* with the new upgrade I have lost everything, several years of journaling without warning. What a breach of trust! I contacted customer service which sent me an email that said nothing was lost but still have been unable to access anything. I love having access on my phone but I have to re-evaluate whether I can trust any app with journal entries again. I liked that this app has prompts but didn’t anticipate that it didn’t have just a free area for writing random thoughts. But I have ended up liking the prompts. Two things I would change: I would enable the program to show me a list of just affirmations I have collected. Also give me a choice of which answer to show on the timeline. And yes, I would add a section to record additional unprompted thoughts. As it is, I’m using two apps for journaling instead of one. Update: The more I have used this app the more amazing it seems. It is so much easier now to be in a thankful positive frame of mind. It is incredibly easy to use and that makes it easier to use consistently. I STILL with there was an option to see my list of affirmations on their own to see what I’ve said about myself over time..Version: 3.0

LimitedOverall I’m disappointed which is a shame. The prompt sentences that you choose to include in the morning entries are different to the evening entries and there are limited choices in both morning and evening. I’d like to have an ‘I’m grateful for’ section in both the morning and evening not just the morning. I’d like more alternatives in the evening than ‘what could I have done to make the day better...’ and ‘ my day was amazing because....’. Such as ‘I achieved ...’ or ‘ what I learned today’ , ‘Today I enjoyed...’ or ‘what made me smile today’ (these are just examples’. I like the daily affirmation section and the fact you can upload a photo for each day..Version: 2.1

Really missing the previous designWhy break a good thing? Bought the app two years ago and been using it since. I used to have the paper version. The previous app design prior to June 2021 was so elegant, intuitive, clean and inviting. The result of submitting entries and photos was appealing and in flow. Everything about the previous was just right. The current version is unfortunately the exact opposite. It is out of touch, busy, not elegant and just messy to look at and messier to use. You have to go through all steps instead of writing where you want. Also so long the new list of three. and gone in the nice notebook like aesthetics. Hope you enjoy looking at a bright tangerine first thing when you reach for your phone in the morning and last thing before you put your phone away to go to sleep. The lust goes on and on. It seems that to justify an annual $25 subscription they had to add a bunch of unnecessary features, hence taking away the app’s very appeal as “5 minute journal”. Now it is just.. “messy journal”. Here wishing and praying the design team will have the humility to bring the clean old design back, but highly doubting this could happen. I took the time to write this review because I love this app, or at least used to. Turned many people to it. Now finding myself looking for an alternative sadly. Btw I got a notice about developer response but could not access it..Version: 3.0.3

Lost all entries after new updateThis is a review for the new update. I checked the email I was signed in with in the app as the update said existing users will be logged out. I didn’t care to take any backup as the update info didn’t talk about that. I used google login for the same email (as I usually do google sign ups when available) and now account says total entries 1 Maybe I had signed up directly with the email and not google login. But usually the other apps just link the direct email account with the google login account or they give an error. I haven’t lost access to my direct email account so far with other apps or websites. So this is just sad :( UPDATE: Pro: Should have looked at reviews before updating. Deleted the google login account and now I have my entries back Con: Also realized that I will be loosing access to some features I already paid for in the previous version and thought will have them for life as they now fall in the premium bucket. My feeling about the update: New features falling in premium bucket, makes total sense. Existing features becoming premium, what were you thinking! I already paid for them years ago, when you advertised to me $x is the price to have that version of the app forever. I’m not paying monthly for something that I already paid for, so no to buying subscription to have previously existing features. Will I be looking for another app or way to journal, most likely..Version: 3.0.2

Used to be greatThis app used to be great for my mental health before the recent update. I have lost all my entries which I’m not happy about. Also why would I now pay for a premium subscription for features I previously had for free before the update like adding photos to entries. Unless you want to pay for something that other apps do for free, I’d suggest using another app. To add, I contacted their support 3 weeks ago as I can’t login and nobody has got back to me. I tried to initiate a support chat on their website and all it did was ask for my email, if only they actually respond to emails..Version: 3.0.2

Easy to stay positive, a few different promptsI’m enjoying the ease of recording my gratitude, reflections, and what positive things to focus on but it would be great to have a few different prompts to mix up the thoughts or reflect on different or specific things. Perhaps a place to choose prompts..Version: 2.1

Good app but…disappointed with serviceThe concept of the app is really good. Downloaded it when it was only £5 and all the services were free. After the update, I was unable to log in to my account for 3 weeks making it difficult to rebuild the habit! And they started charging for things which were free before E.g attaching a picture, mood etc. disappointing that they now charge such a ridiculous amount for lifetime subscription when the same was available for only £5. Disappointed.Version: 3.6.3

Terrible update from a terrible companyAs per many other recent reviews, I’ve lost all of my entries with this “improved” version. Having paid for the app, I don’t see why I should be forced to pay for a wildly overpriced subscription to enjoy basic functionality - especially when the money-grabbing developers can’t communicate with their existing customers or provide an app that works. A shame, as I enjoyed the app, but the developer’s greed has convinced me I need to move to another app..Version: 3.0

You can only do 10 lines a dayUnfortunately, I’ve been out off by the app and the book “ Miracle Morning” that advertised that app. It is not a journal where you can express your thoughts - it is only drafted so you can write 5 lines of the gratitude and your expectations of the day ahead and in the evening it will suggest you to fill in 5 lines of what amazing happened to you today. Very limiting. Killed my motivation to journaling.Version: 2.5.1

Journal export issueI’ve been using this app since the beginning of January. I’ve really enjoyed it, and haven’t missed one day. However, I just tried to export it as a PDF and I’m really disappointed. The text is cut off on the right, but there is a huge gap on the left. Why can’t it be pushed left more so that text isn’t cut off? It also cuts images in half in some places. And lastly, it doesn’t let me download it and says “failed - forbidden”. I rely on this journal to keep track of my days, and things going on with my life/health. Can you please fix this issue? This is a huge disappointment. For a paid app, this shouldn’t happen..Version: 3.5.1

I wish it was available in macThe layout looks great, but I wish the app is also available in mac format. So accessibility is available in all platforms..Version: 3.6.3

Want to learn how to turn a 5 star app to a 1 star?Just follow this devs approach. Take an existing loved app, force an upgrade that causes you to loose all your data and then pay to get the features you used to have. Great way to loose your exiting customers if that’s the goal. As it stands now, what makes 5 Minute Journal better than the hundreds of other journaling apps? Nothing that I can see. Price WAS the reason, one-off and simple. Now it’s just like all the rest. Maybe launching this in parallel with the old app as “5 minute journal premium” wouldn’t have caused so much outrage in this forced transition…. Yes, another unsatisfied customer. Take a look at Jour if you want a robust journaling paid app instead..Version: 3.0.1

I lost everything after they upgraded the app and now it's paid!Since you upgraded the app I can't access my every day journal. What happened? Do I have lost all my information? No advance notice to I have the option to back up my posts?.Version: 3.0.3

DisappointedI don’t believe that the developers worked with an expert in gratitude practice. This product felt too gimmicky. The gratitude prompts do not guide you on a journey. You should feel like your moving towards that feeling of being more connected to yourself. Glad that I didn’t spend $27 CAD on the book..Version: 3.1.1

Update Wiped my JournalIt was pleasant while it lasted but the new update while everything. I followed the instructions and made sure I did not make a second profile by mistake. But it seems everything is gone. The app didn’t even recognize me as an existing user. I’m grateful for the time I had with my journal but will be moving on. Wish it could have had a better ending. Hopefully new users will find the joy I once had with this product. But for existing users, there seems to be bugs with the transition. ORIGINAL REVIEW: Simple but intuitive design. A great reminder to practice mindful thinking. I like to think I am the type that will sit and write in a physical journal- especially because I think there is a special ritual with the act of writing with a purpose. However, I can be forgetful. This app is a more convenient way to accomplish that when on the go. It's also a nice way to preserve memories with daily photos. Great job!! 2 MONTH UPDATE: I've been using this regularly (I've occasionally missed a day or two, but was able to catch up). This is such a great way to document my day with thoughts and photos. It's so gratifying to look back at it with instant visual cues. It serves as a reminder that life is good :) I have an idea for you Mimi and Alex- perhaps sometime in the future you can find a way to make the journals printable for physical copies of our journals. Thank you so much for making this. It is wonderful and has had a very positive affect on my mindset :).Version: 3.0.1

New version is way worseLoved this app. The new updates and the pricing structure change mean I’m deleting the app and going elsewhere. It’s gone from simple, quick, easy to use and is now bloated, ugly and more complicated. 5 Minute Journal is no longer that. 1. The disaster of the update from a user account and data loss perspective was a complete train wreck. Sure, they’ve “posted” fixes now, but many of us struggled for days. And then the account update took days. Ridiculous. 2. The new UI is way worse. It’s less intuitive, more bloated and uglier. The old one was clean and simple. Made it so easy and quick to use. This…enough for me to quit using the app. 3. The new icon is hideous. Color is way too bright, and the overall design is poor. 5 minute Journal - simple, clean, easy. New UI. Not that way. New Icon…a vomit of complex lines and bright yellow colors. No. But hopefully they add the option to change it as that is easy and standard in many apps. 4. Subscription model switch — I don’t like it. No one does. I get they want $$. They claim to have added new better features, but not really. And nothing 99% of us want. 5. The “free year” is mostly in hopes that you will take it, then forget about it so they can get your renewal fee next year. Pass..Version: 3.0.2

Definitely NOT ready for Prime TimeAn update should improve usability and meet the demands of operating system updates. Like so many others, I’m stuck at “Account data transfer in progress. It can take several minutes for this process to complete.” Well, several minutes is now over 3 hours. I was hoping that confirming my account via the email I received after logging into the update would help, but no. Really? The response to other reviewers is that the large number of users trying to update accounts is slowing things down? This looks much more like a complete failure to properly stress test the update. All I know is that my battery is draining and I have no idea when I will be able to use the app (or if I even want to anymore.) Even shutting down my phone and restarting doesn’t phase the app—it just keeps spinning away and wasting my battery. I may just delete the app and be done with it. I’ll lose my data, but I’m not convinced I’ll ever see it again, anyway..Version: 3.0

Latest Update is a JokeI used to love this app... The latest update is a complete cash grab and is ridiculous for existing app users who have already paid for this app. I’ve emailed them the below and have received no response. It is really disappointing that the users of your app that were the first to support you and your business only get a year of the new ‘premium version’ of the app. We paid for the 5 minute journal app that allows us to add pictures to our journal forever - not just for a year because the developers of the app decided to make it free and charge for a premium version. I have recommended this app to several people in my family and this decision has made me regret that. All existing users of your app should be getting a lifetime of premium, not just a year. At the very least people should be getting the existing features that we paid for, for free. EDIT in response: 1. I did email your help email and got no response, a waste of time. 2. It’s fine to change your pricing structure for long term viability. This should only be applicable for FUTURE customers. However you have stripped features that were already paid for by your existing customer base that have been paid for, for life and now we have to pay to upgrade after a year of premium? lol. All that is asked of you is to not completely screw over your existing customer base. Considering you value your customers feedback, I suggest you review the most recent app reviews..Version: 3.0

Please add classic viewUpdate: customers support was helpful and were able to recover my entries. However, i have still decided to stop using the app. The new interface is still cluttered and bloated, causing me to spend more time than I want to staring at my screen. I have exported my entries and have moved to a different diary app. The new app is a super simple experience, but doesn’t have templates or photos. If Intelligent Change adds a classic view, I would consider switching back. Original review: I have been using the journal for a few years and it has really helped me. But this update is rough. Now i have to recover all my entries and this interface is overwhelming. I have to see metrics that stress me out, there’s no way to hide daily quotes on my entries, and it asks about how I’m feeling in smiley faces I have no use for. The strength of the app was its simplicity. Please please please add a classic view for users who want the straightforward approach that made this app so great..Version: 3.0.3

Lost all my dataWorst update ever. Do not buy or update if you've bought the app already..Version: 3.0.2

Lost all my dataWith the new version, I lose everything I had before... And they put new pictures and quotes that I've never had before. Not sure where they are taking that data.Version: 3.0.1

Was great until the new updateLoved this app, which I paid for, and then it auto updated and now I can’t access any of my history or use the new one, either. And in a year I will have to pay all over again. Why ruin a good thing?!?.Version: 3.0

Used to love this appBeen using it top notch tool for several years-really made positive differences in my mood and my day ! Discovered today the “new improved “ version.” Really unhappy. Liked the old layout, structure, simplicity-was well crafted aesthetically, efficient, easy to reference & use/make changes as needed. This new version really really bugs me. TERRIBLY DISAPPOINTED. Difficult to access all that I invested in and trusted I’d find easily accessible. Just unwieldly in several ways. And now they want $ for breaking what had been an excellent helpful uplifting tool. Tho I appreciated the free old version I’d prefer to pay for that than this. Thought was a really quality company. Now, not so much!💔☹️😢 PS hadn’t read the other reviews-now I see I’m not alone! Wondering if there can be 2 apps? The original (with or without subscription)& the new one separately with its bells & whistles requested by others!?! &all the stuff us tried & true original prefer to do without? Pretty please?😊.Version: 3.4.2

Preferred the old appThe new app forces the user to add daily updates in a very proscribed way. The old app was more flexible and could be used however the user wanted; eg adding a simple line of text and a photo. Disappointing as I have logged for 4 years so all that will be lost if I change apps now..Version: 3.0.3

Sad to say goodbyeHaving spent 5 years with this as part of my morning routine, I’m sad to have lost this app. Like so many others I’m locked out of my account and have received no support after the initial automated email. To top it off, I find the new interface unpleasant and a poor replacement for the simple, elegant and effortless previous version; it doesn’t feel like it was designed by the same company. Shabby execution of the upgrade - why were we given no warning that this was coming so we could backup in advance?.Version: 3.0

No longer a fanNot a fan of the recent change to go annual premium. The value just isn’t there. Not only have I lost all previous journal entries in the recent app upgrade. It’s also not right that you pay-walled features that was previously free like uploading images. The act of journaling is a beneficial act for the day. But that act alone is not dependent on this app. Happy to move to pen/paper or replicate 5 min journal functionality in Notion / Evernote / One Note. At least there’ll be no data loss..Version: 3.0

Greedy Company. I paid for app, then they moved to subscription-based model a month later.Bought the app a little over a month ago, and now they move the app to subscription based in order to have full access. I would not have spent good money on this app if I knew they were going to hose me a month later. And giving me one year of premium access is not a proper trade-off for me having already paid for the app. If you were a decent company, you would grandfather in people that have already paid for the app, and given them “lifetime” access, and then new subscribers can pay the yearly/monthly subscription. And the fact that you chose to rip off people that have already purchased the app, proves that you are not the touchy-feely sensitive company that you pretend to be. I want my money back..Version: 3.0.1

Not GratefulHard to be grateful when the app updates without any warning and, besides not liking the new interface, I’m livid that all of my previous journal entries and photos were completely wiped out. I used those as memories and uplifting reminders of good days. Very, very disappointed..Version: 3.0

Long time userIt was incredibly stressful when I thought I had lost all my photos and journal entries when the app moved to the new format. Thank goodness it was found. I agree with the other reviewers and don’t like the nee format. I have been a long time user of this app. I have been so disappointed about the change in format. I have been religiously completing it for 5 years with the plan to print it out as a treasured keepsake for my children. I have recently tried to print it out but when I exported it all the photos were almost a full page size and almost every single photo went across two pages so cut in half. The format was unable to be changed. The feedback I received was that ‘it is not possible to change’. I am now moving to a different app. Until this is fixed I would not recommend this app. There are plenty of others and before the recent change I thought this was the best one..Version: 3.1.1

I LOST A YEAR OF ENTRIES. don’t waste your money. After over a year of using this app, it automatically upgraded without notice and I lost all of my entries...over 350 entries just gone. I’ve reached out for help and support three times in the past 7 days and no one has even acknowledged my emails. Very disappointed. I’ve moved on and now given up ever finding my old entries. So sad. I paid for this app and now they want more money. What’s going to happen in another year even if I buy in now. Read the reviews. This happened to so many people..Version: 3.0.2

Support non existentI’ve been a big fan of this app, until the last year when no matter what is done I can’t export the pdf nor have my email properly recognised. Trying to have someone help is met with totally ineffective email support, and zero solutions. As a result I’ve lost four years of entries, despite doing everything suggested. Time to go elsewhere, incredibly disappointed..Version: 3.6.41

Updated review[2nd update] After 3 days, the data transfer is complete and I am able to recover my old journal entries. Because of the new $25/year subscription model, I have already purchased a different journal app, one that has a fixed price, and have migrated there. [update] The developer sent an email, via the Apple App Store, with instructions to recover my data. Unfortunately I can’t perform the suggested account changes, because the app has been stuck on the Account Data Transfer in Progress page for several days, even after exiting the app [original] I’ll pay a fair fixed price for a good app, which 5 Minute Journal used to be, but not a subscription. On top of that, several years worth of data is now gone because I can neither create an new account or recover the password for a previous one..Version: 3.0

New versionI just paid for the app less than a month ago and loved using it, I've used it before and thought it was really good. But with these changes, I now need to subscribe instead of a one off payment and the design looks very far off to the simplicity I've enjoyed. It feels like both options shouldve been offered. A previous option and a new look updated subscription version. Really disappointed..Version: 3.0

DisappointedI loved this app and have been completing it every day for the last 5 months. It has become part of my morning and evening routine. But yesterday morning I find the app has been updated. When I tried to log in it created me a whole new account (despite me clicking that I already had an account) and told me I needed to pay £22! I emailed the developer and got an automated response saying that I have probably created a duplicate account and that I could just delete it and all would be well. I have done that but it still won’t log me in. It recognises my email and tells me that I get a free upgrade but then when I click to continue it tells me it doesn’t recognise my email. Clearly the developers know they have messed up hence the automated email but when will this be fixed? I have lost all my data and don’t want to pay £22 when I already had a premium account. Also, £22? for the upgrade. The app was perfect as it was. The developers have got greedy. £4.99 for the app was great and I recommended it to lots of my friends. I won’t be recommending at that price. Please fix the accounts!.Version: 3.0

Update is a Crap ScamDidn’t want the update. Won’t pay for the update (I already bought the lifetime access to the app once). I don’t like the changes, I didn’t ask for them and am now deleting this all off my phone. What a waste of money by a developer you cannot trust. DO NOT PURCHASE THIS APP. The developer will make sudden changes without asking you, and then insist you pay for them. I want a refund for the original app that I paid for and you have stolen..Version: 3.1

What a shameI downloaded this App a couple of months ago and I was really enjoying starting my journaling experience. Then, it feels like the developers went all commercial and after the money. The whole experience changed and fees were introduced to save a picture associated with the day. The magic was lost and I’ve had to stop my journaling journey whilst still in its infancy. Yes, I could have had a year for free, but that just feels like being invited to wear the noose loosely for a year in the knowledge that the sudden tightening of it is creeping closer; day by day..Version: 3.0.2

Disappointed like many other usersWhile my journal entries eventually did come back after many, many days later when the app just crashed while trying to update ... some of the new features are nice but doesn’t justify the cost for me. I paid for the app a few years ago that I also thought I could use forever but now basic features that were included are removed and we have to pay $35/yr to have them back like a picture (which was a nice feature) ... Paid app users should’ve been given the features they paid for and maybe some warning of changes and upgrades would’ve been nice. Isn’t that what most companies do when they make a big change? I’m not sure I’ll continue with this app... 🤔.Version: 3.0.1

No way to create your own promptsI decided to try this app because I wanted to focus on gratitude. This one had high reviews but I'm still not sure why this app needs to be $4.99. Aside from being able to upload a photo, there are no options to update the prompts or write in your own. As a result, it becomes a glorified excel sheet to house your thoughts. I think it should give you the opportunity to either swap phrasing on the main questions presented or give you the option to add one or two more personalized statements to track. For example, if you are in a relationship, you could you add something like: Were you your best self as a partner today? That way, whatever is also important to you gets tracked. Otherwise, I am enjoying the app..Version: 1.6.3

Bring the old app back and fire who did the upgradeThis use to be my favorite app. I heard about the physical journal over 4-years ago and found the digital version. I don’t know what’s going on that the data migration is so poor. There’s so many problems! Much of my daily entries aren’t complete. Basically the evening highlight of the day entries aren’t there from the past, but not each one is missing. I entered repeatedly the evening entries and it looks like it’s been saved but when i go back, there’s no evening entry. Maybe they should have run a beta version before springing this on me and saying we won’t charge you until next year. I have emailed developer and they said it’s because i have two accounts, i looked and no that’s not true. Email again and they said to log out and back in. 7 days with the “upgrade” and the entries weren’t saved. I am now looking for other, more reliable digital journals..Version: 3.0

I did love this app but…Update: moved it from 1 stars to 2 because using it more it has slightly grown on me but I’m pretty sure I’m going to change to something else due to its his yearly cost. Hopefully someone provides the simple features and layout of the old app with either a one time fee like this old app was or a lifetime fee option unlike this one. Ok, I really did love this app back with the old style but then it really changed everything with the recent update. First they added a subscription, now I’m not anti subscription model because you want to reward the developers for their time (and they did offer a 1 yr subscription to all previous owners of their non subscription app which is good) but $25 a year lol really I’m going to pass. A $5.99 or even maybe a $9.99 yearly amount makes sense but this app is not worth $25 a year for something you can do in the note app or other apps do for free one time fee. Finally the new layout is not as simple as the old model. It takes more time to do your journaling which is even more sad then the change to a subscription model. Someone is going to capitalize on their old simple model and offer a one time or lifetime subscription option or a yearly $5 subscription option and will steal consumers from them. I’ll keep it maybe about month to see if I can get use to it but will probably not since I’m not paying $25 a year for this app..Version: 3.0.3

Too expensive for what it does!I heard about this App while in training so I bought it with high expectations but it came out too “flat”, I didn’t really feel it helped me much if at all and within a few days I silenced it and then deleted it..Version: 2.4

I used to be obsess with this appI really loved it. I recommended it to my patients, friends, and family. I even paid for it for a few people that I thought would benefit from it. But since the update, I despise it. It’s so ugly now and I have lost all my entries from the last 3 years. I’m so heartbroken that my entries are gone. I did try the obvious ways to get them back and then when nothing I attempted worked, I emailed customer service. No one bothered to get back to me. I definitely will not pay for it now that is so much more money and they can’t even send a cursory reply back stating they’l address my concerns as soon as they can. I’m upset but hopeful that they can change my mind back.Version: 3.0

New update is a money grab - Do not buyI bought this app more than 3 years ago. Have 3 years of pictures and journals that all vanished with the latest update. Tried to connect using my Facebook account and it tells me that it already imported this account. When I login, my journal is completely blank. Nothing left. And they tell me that to get the same functionality I used to have and have been using for the last 3 years, I need to now buy an annual subscription. Stay away. Terrible..Version: 3.0

After 2 years I’m angry at changesI paid for this app and have used it for 2 years, and really enjoyed it. Until today. Today the app changed and now unless you go with premium you can’t put your daily picture on your entry. A free year and then 31.99 yearly. I’ve already paid for the app. Don’t do it. There have to be better options. I’m going to look for one..Version: 3.0

I already paid for the full app- now I have to pay AGAIN?I really loved using 5 minute journal to document. But they have now updated the app and have introduced subscription fees. This is really unfair considering many loyal people have paid for the full app knowing that they’d be able to use the app for life with full access, but now have to pay AGAIN? Many other apps have introduced subscription fees too, but they honour their existing customers and give them lifetime access that they’ve already paid for; only new customers pay for the subscription. It does not feel like we’ve been cared for a customers. I wouldn’t be recommending this app to my friends anymore if the business module doesn’t even support existing customers- sorry..Version: 3.0

Bait and switchAlready paid for the lifetime access to this app - i dont care about any of the extra features they claim they will provide. If i paid for something, i should still be able to access the limited features that were promised back then. Pretty sure them taking away the product that has been already paid for is illegal..Version: 3.4

Still DisappointedObjectively, the update is very nice. Considering the chaos of the unexpected and ill prepared update, the loss of access to my account for a week (experienced by many), and the removal of once included features now made premium by a subscription model…the update is pretty bad. I have been a user since 2016 and have adored this app, especially the feature of having a photo for each day. I have raved about it for years, even purchasing and gifting the app to friends. Without a doubt, before this update any review I left would be 5 stars. The developers should graciously show appreciation to longtime users, but currently they have not. In a similar situation years ago, a wellness app I cherished and had used since 2015 changed to a subscription model. In contrast, I opened the app to find I was automatically given a lifetime subscription as a token of appreciation. A page should be taken out of that book. $25 for a lifetime subscription as a longtime user I would consider, but what the current offer is…not so much. Once my one year free trial is expired I have no intention to pay monthly or yearly, even my almost 6 years of journaling could not convince me of that. In the meantime, I will be preparing to move to a different app or leave app based journaling completely. I’m so disheartened that the userbase is being treated this way because of greed by an app that is constructed around gratitude and mindfulness..Version: 3.0

Never been more disappointed by an updateI had paid for the old version and loved it. I wish I hadn’t downloaded the new update. With the update I have lost all of my old data entries and am now expected to pay again for an app I already paid for. On top of that the logo is outright offensive to the eye..Version: 3.0

Stay away - do not purchaseI’ve already paid for the full version of this app once, and now all of a sudden and without warning, they want a monthly subscription for the same feature set I already paid for?? (even to add a picture it costs money - my notes app does this for free!) Horrible business practice. Will never buy anything from this developer ever again. Also, they told me that I’d receive a one year subscription (which I never did) AND all my data is gone. Absolutely disgusted. I will buy another journaling app instead. Goodbye!.Version: 3.0

Loved the app until the developers got greedy.I love this app. I’ve been using it for about 3 years now. I don’t use it everyday but I’ve been using it to document special days - days that I made special memories. My typical journaling style was that I would take a picture of something that would capture a moment from the day, then I would write out the journal. Today was a memorable day for me and I looked forward to journaling it in this app. I opened the app and tried to upload a picture, only to find that this feature now requires being paid for! What?! One of many features that have now been turned into “premium” features. Fair enough, I understand that it takes money to create such an app. I would be more than happy to make a one time payment to own the app and all its features but I am not subscribing to this. I have other ways I would like to spend $35. The developers should consider a one off payment to purchase the app then charge a small fee should a new update come out - to which the customer should opt whether or not they are willing to pay for the new update/features or not. Anyway, this app was good while it lasted. I’ll be looking for a new app to journal in..Version: 3.1.1

Not What I ExpectedIt is not a journal where you can record your days happenings. It is 3 things i am grateful for, 3 amazing things that happened. how could I have made today better. I wanted an app that I could enter what happened during the day and there is no room for this. I think it is overpriced for what I got..Version: 2.1

Bad V3 rolloutI have the paper journal and love it. Paid for the app years ago and found it so much more convenient for my lifestyle. I can easily hack it in my other journals but I liked being able to add a photo. V3 really should have been rolled out as a separate app. I too lost everything. They assure me it will reappear but i have doubts. Disappointed in how they destroyed everyone’s trust with this new version rollout. Some notice to back up or export our journals would have been kind. Also, when dayone went to a subscription model they honoured the payment and loyalty of their past users by creating a usage option just for them. It is still in effect and I am so proud to support and recommend their product every way I can. It would have been nice of intelligentchange to respect their users in a similar way. A year free premium is ok I guess… the utter shock and disappointment of waking up to my entire gratitude journal being gone has me skeptical..Version: 3.0

Feel like I lost an old friendI have never written a review for an app before but to see the new update of 5 minute journal had me so upset that I couldn’t help myself. I have used the app for years, collecting moments I would often come back to. I think the makers of this app really underestimated the personal and emotional connection their users had (that’s right: past tense!) with their product. The new update made me lose all my old content which I cannot retrieve because I had created the account via facebook years ago - which I no longer have. I had originally paid for a product which now has changed entirely, charging for premium features which I thought I had already purchased for a lifetime- never would have signed up for this! This just goes to show that nothing will EVER replace your good, old paper journal. At the end of the day, there‘s a company with economic interest behind the app. I should never have trusted them with my personal data, and suggest you don’t either if you‘re contemplating to download this product. Who knows what they‘ll change next... Extremely disappointed. Really feel like I lost an old friend (which is what journals are to so many people)..Version: 3.0.2

Do not update. So disappointed with V3I am so disappointed with this new update. I should have read reviews prior to getting this version but I caught a glimpse of this update on Alex’s ig story last week and was excited to try. I have used this app religiously for almost 2 years and can honestly say I enjoyed the simplicity of the app. It got the job done and I didn’t think it needed anything extra. Overall, I am really upset that they didn’t really think about the existing’s customer’s experience when migrating to this version. When I tried to login with my credentials it wouldn’t let me log in. I kept getting an error message that my email didn’t exist in their system. When I finally did login, none of my entries were there. I actually had to log out and log back in a few times to even get the message about getting 1 year free to pop up (which is still unfair to existing users - we should have been grandfathered in to basically get the same exact features). I should also add that I actually can’t even use the premium features on the app despite the message popping up. I have been in touch with customer support but I am really frustrated with how long this is taking. Would not recommend this version to anyone looking to get it!! Way too glitchy and needs a lot of work..Version: 3.0

Updated 5 Minute Journal - not as user-friendlyI used the 5 minute journal all the time and I loved it. Due to personal reasons I took a break. Yesterday I came back and I don’t like it. I am having a hard time finding my way around it. I used to be able to insert 1 featured image every day. It is also very difficult to have the overview of the daily entries. The daily entries used to be on one page. Now they are in layers. In my opinion, this update was not an improvement for the user. I will have to find a different app for my gratitude journal. Jeannette.Version: 3.1.1

More customization neededIt’s a good app, but for what you pay for it would be better if you add the option to add more sections rather than just one and to be able to rearrange the order also. Otherwise, works well..Version: 3.5.2

I’m so upsetToday the app reset itself without me reading and it logged me out. I tried logging in and it’s saying it’s a new account and I have lost all my entries that I have been doing for months. All my photos and memories are gone. I wanted to keep these to look back on when days get hard and now they are all gone. I used the app this morning and it was fine. This evening I have been logged out and lost everything..Version: 3.0

Just in it for the moneyVery unhappy with this app - paid for lifetime use 3 years ago and suddenly I will need to pay over $30 a year... gifted me one year free but it’s poor business practice. Anyone who had paid for lifetime use prior to the switch should have been honoured. I will not be recommending this app any longer..Version: 3.0.1

SUBSCRIPTION BASEDI was told about this to try and help me get better. Im not about to pay 150+ after tax for a glorified notebook/mood tracker to get away from endless subscription, as if there aren’t others that can provide the services. Yikes..Version: 3.6.1

Needs to be available in landscape mode for iPadGreat app apart from one major detail: its not available in landscape mode so when you want to type using a keyboard if you’re using an iPad... you cant..Version: 1.5.3

App upgraded without option to stay with previous formatApp has been upgraded so all previous data now read-only, and now a premium subscription is needed to add photos to a diary entry. Ok so premium is free for a year to existing users, but beyond this I won’t want to carry on using a journal app with a subscription model on top of the app charge I’ve already paid, and also have no control over any future upgrades....Version: 3.0

It was better beforeThe old version was simple and easier, like the book. Even if you’ve paid it before now you have to subscribe for keeping the photo option. I don’t want to use it anymore..Version: 3.0.1

Hugely disappointed - new upgrade should have been optionalThe five minute journal has been a wonderful way for me to start the day and I liked the simplicity of the version I originally purchased. There should be an option to keep the old version as I was perfectly happy with it. Furthermore I it is still transferring my data so I can’t even get into the new version (which I don’t want) to write my morning entry (which was simple and all I wanted ).Version: 3.0

New version not workingFor several days now the app says it is transferring data and is unusable but from what other people have said they have lost all of their previous entries so I am not sure what is getting transferred If the new update means I lose all my previous entries I will delete and try something new as we should have been given the option to save our data.Version: 3.0

New update is disappointingI loved the former app the ability to add pictures to your entires and now to have that included you have to pay a subscription which is unreasonable considering I paid full price for the app. I enjoy the fact that you can write more but other than that this new update is a huge disappointment I’ve decided to delete this app. It doesn’t feel like it’s serving it’s purpose as effectively as the former platform it just feels like another way to make money out of a subscription app. You’ll get more out of the actual journal than this app..Version: 3.0.3

Miss the old versionI wish they hadn’t changed it. Just another scam to get more money. I paid for the full version years ago, I didn’t want to then later be forced to subscribe just to have all those features back. I liked the older version better. Just read the most recent reviews glad to see I’m not the only one who is unhappy with the new update. I’ve also lost all my years of entries, I hate the way it now asks for your entry. The app icon is hideous. Idk what the developers were thinking but this was a horrible move on their part. BRING BACK THE ORIGINAL! PS I’m deleting the app and will not be subscribing because that is ridiculous. The development team only responded to the missing entries and not the fact that they completely ruined the app! I still want the old version back the new one is awful and I will not be using it anymore especially because you just want more money..Version: 3.0

Rip offI bought this app at the beginning of the year and it wasn’t a monthly or annual subscription. I was using this app nearly every day......then they decided to update the app and tell me I can have 1 year for free then I have to pay for it again at an increased price monthly or annually. Huh! Who does that? Have a beautiful day they say, be grateful blah blah.... rubbish!.Version: 3.0

Paid for and now having to pay perpetually?I hadn’t used my journal in a while. I bought the online version for convenience. I am not going to use it anymore now that it has a premium subscription. If I had known this change would happen I would not have purchased. This is advertising under false pretenses. Thanks.Version: 3.0

New update is terriblePurchased this app in 2016. Without warning, this app was updated and now I no longer have access to my data. There are allegedly ways to retrieve this information. However, better efforts could have been made to make this transition seamless for existing, longtime users. Not a pleasant way to start the day. Hoping new users get something positive out if this but I’m out..Version: 3.0.1

Update sucksNew update is terrible do not purchase.Version: 3.0

My journal vanishedI purchased and used this journal, I like this journal. I sent to pick it up again after having been away for awhile and I’m locked out, unable to reset my password or open a new account. The app is basically useless now. I heard they charge you now too, but I wouldn’t know - can’t even get that far. Not what it promises… feel pretty violated as I had a whole journal that has just disappeared 😢.Version: 3.6.3

Poor customer serviceI am not happy with the new update as I cannot access my old journal. I have emailed and the issue has still not been fixed which means I can’t journal daily, unless I sign up again and loose all my data. Lucky I had been backing up and exporting then journal. I’ve decided to move on and find a new app, as I’m so unhappy with the customer service. I think this is a terrible way to treat a paying customer as I had the full version before and was not prompted before the update was deployed. I would have given zero stars if I had the option as I no longer have a desire to use the app. Very disappointed...Version: 3.0.1

Where all my old posts??Why am I paying for more functionality when I had paid for it already?.Version: 3.0.1

Was the best... but my journal is held hostageUPDATE: figured out my password, which was great since password reset wasn’t working. Updated again, got my journal back. New format is not great. Feeling negative thoughts towards the people that apparently asked for upgrades and changes to a free product. It was really great the way it was and I hope somebody else copies that format. Prior: In an effort to monetize their product, without warning, they made it impossible for folks to get to their journals - albeit perhaps temporarily. I am now two weeks waiting for their very busy development team to address the fact that I think I’ve lost two years worth of journaling to an upgrade that I would’ve happily paid for - were I able to even access the account I’ve been toiling away at all this time. Somehow I have no idea which email address is affiliated with the account even though I have logged into it before. When I tried logging in and using the password reset, it failed out. It’s been a really helpful and meaningful tool, but losing all of those memories, pictures, and thoughts has been really sucky. I hope they “find my account” so I can at least download my journal. After making a true habit and ensuring I had an update for every day through two super difficult years, it’s super lame to have these weeks be blank. I’ve converted to the notes app and you know what - it’s not so bad..Version: 3.0.2

PLEASE FIX THE DATA LOSS ISSUEAs an existing app user, I would have given this app 5 stars. However, I am now very concerned and hesitant to update the app. Issues 1. If you update, you will lose your data 2. The photo view is no longer available 3. I am being asked to pay a subscription fee for a feature (adding photos) which I already paid for when I bought the paid version of the app! This is ridiculous and a really poor way to treat existing app users If you can fix these issues, I would love to update and continue supporting the app.Version: 3.0

SolutionThis app was simple and easy now its complicated and costly, just get “morning-gratitude” its the same thing as this app before the lame update..Version: 3.0.2

Proposed changesI really wanted to ask to see a few changes that would help alleviate the stress and resentment caused by the new update. 1: please remove the automatic addition of a quotation of the day to our entries - or make it optional. It’s just tacky/unwanted as a set part of entries 2: make the images bigger in the gallery PLEASE. to be able to actually scroll through and enjoy your past journal pictures in an aesthetically pleasing way. It’s such a simple change but would help enjoy the journal immensely as we used to. Two images per row is ENOUGH because we want to scroll through and enjoy our journals 3: allow to press on an image and see the journal entry from that time as well - not just the image itself This would really help improve the app and keep new features for anyone that actually wants them. Thank you for your consideration..Version: 3.5

Never been so disappointed.I recently got this app after years of buying the physical journal. I’ve never been so disappointed. All my entires are gone. And not only did I have to buy this app before the update. Now I have to buy a year subscription to even use the features I was already using. I don’t recommend this app to anyone. Especially since seems like a lot of users that were existing are having so many issues. I’ve had a ticket open and still have no resolution. I’m not going to pay for the year subscription. I got the pop up for the free year but then got a pop up to change my password. So it’s been a lost cause since and to say I’m disappointed is an understatement. Existing customers should have been grand fathered in because what do I look like buying an app and then having to pay to use the app I bought. Not me sounding like a Karen lol.Version: 3.0.1

UPDATE - they recovered my files!I reached out to the company after this surprise "upgrade" (aka massive money grab) because I could not access my account. After some malarkey about how I must have created another account (I didn't), they finally sent me a password reset link, only for me to hit the data transfer debacle. HOWEVER, as of this evening, I am in and can see my entries dating back to 2016. I have exported them to my email and now my computer. Chapter closed. The only semi-positive thing I will say about this whole experience is this-if you email the developers, you will (eventually) get a response. You will have to keep at it, and they will relentlessly promote their brand in a way that feels incredibly tone deaf in light of all the trouble and heartache they have caused, but they did eventually fix everything. Will I be keeping this app? Heck no. I'm not going to pay a subscription fee to create my own content only to have it go missing for a week. But I will give credit where credit is due- they at least got my information back..Version: 3.0

You had the best app why switchI have you physical 5 minute journal and I purchased the app as well huge fan of your products but you should have made another application and not updated it I just can’t believe you would hurt all your fellow users like this the layout sucks and the subscription. The layout before was way better. I wish you would think about your users first before doing this.Version: 3.1.1

Don’t update or you face a paywall for current features1 star. What a ridiculous update. Hiding key functionality behind a paywall that becomes active after a years’ grace. Hang on. I own this functionality (eg adding photos to journal entries) fair and square. I bought the app. Why do I suddenly have to pay again (albeit in 12 months), just to support your ‘sustainability’? Find new customers, don’t frag your existing ones. This is awful behaviour from a top company. This is really Unintelligent Change. Upgraded to 3 stars as they’ve offered me a lifetime subscription to correct this silliness, regaining the key functionality I was going to lose after the grace period. Five stars reserved for companies that honour their early adopters and true fans. Can’t even bring myself to say thank you; I’m back to the position I paid for when I bought the app, after investing time and effort in challenging their poorly executed 3.0 upgrade..Version: 3.0

Bait and switch app-stay away! There should be something that can be instituted that can prevent such developers fleecing customers by paying them pay for the product i.e full features of the app and then flip the service model to an annual subscription without offering existing customers the benefit of the purchase that was already committed! Stay away from these scammers..Version: 3.5

Paid app and paid membershipBought the app earlier this year and use it for a couple of weeks but then stopped. Just went back on it and saw that I now have to pay a monthly subscription despite having to have paid for the app at the beginning. Disappointed. They should have another app for the membership and let those who bought the app free (or at least give them a refund!).Version: 3.1.1

Used to be betterThe big update lost all of my old journal entries, it was converting them for more than a day so I deleted and reinstalled and now they are gone 😢 maybe I never confirmed my email address or something. It looks nicer now, so there’s that..Version: 3.0

Nice design and easy to use, but buggyBeen using this app over the last few days, and I’m enjoying it. It’s really helping me build the habit of journaling. However, I’m on iPad Pro and using the Apple Pencil and the experience is quite buggy. Whenever you go to use the Apple Pencil the question goes off the screen. Also it would be much better if you could use the whole screen to write and not just the small panel/ space that pops up. I’d also like to see some other questions and a full list of affirmations, not just sentences to start with. Thanks!.Version: 3.1.1

Slap in the face to previous customersI purchased this app last year. Now the update has less features than what I actually paid for. If you want them back you have to pay a subscription 4 times the price of what paid for it. The supposed consolation is 1 free year. People who have previously supported this business should be rewarded with a life time subscription, not be punished by charging more. I have contacted you via email and I’ve just been receiving ‘cut and paste’ solutions to issues that I can’t seem to fix. Like receiving all my previous photos and data. It’s glitchy and difficult. I don’t really want to use the product anymore and I’d suggest that others do not subscribe to a lifetime membership being they just decide to take it away anytime. I wonder if I can get a refund from Apple as now the product that was sold is not what I have. This is against Australian consumer law. The new cult like new logo they have now is offensive and the new layout is soulless. The previous layout was simple and beautiful. It was similar to the book. What a shame this hasn’t been handled better by giving all their customers a heads up about the new change..Version: 3.0.1

Cloud Sync Failed!I’ve been a happy customer for the past year since I purchased this. The past 2 days, however, my journal is no longer sync’ing and my data is gone!! I’ve used the contact link in the app itself to send a screen shot of the error (as the error indicates) and no one is bothering to answer me (or even acknowledge that they’ve received my note). Is anyone there?? Are you still supporting this thing??.Version: 3.5.2

Disappointing now have to pay annual subscriptionBeen using this app for a few years now and has become a part of my daily routine.. sad that I would now have to pay £22 a year to continue using the same way I am when the app was something that was purchased in the first place it’s actually ridiculous I guess time to lose those years of memories/journal notes I’ve built and find a different app.Version: 3.5

Yearly fee all of the sudden?Quite disappointed, bought an app previously, worked fine but had some bugs. One day I just lost access and they changed it all. Really disappointing and disrespectful to previous users. And because of the creators behaviour during pandemic, would not recommend this app..Version: 3.0.2
