Welltory: Heart Rate Monitor for Negative User Reviews

Sleep data is great!I love the uncanny way the app knows when fall asleep and wake up. It is usually spot on. I’d like to know the difference between light, deep and rem sleep as reading the info doesn’t really tell me. The one problem I have is it’s always telling me my stress levels are at 90% or higher… even when Ive been sitting watching tv all day. It’s always saying chill, hit it brakes, slow down etc. when I’ve been sitting knitting all day. Lol. Those readings are totally wrong as far as I'm concerned. How can I adjust the app to get more accurate readings? Otherwise I’d be giving a 5 star review..Version: 4.2.0

InaccurateI don’t like giving negative reviews but this app is now causing me stress! It has continually given readings that I am burning the candles at both ends, am nearly 100% in stress and so on; even when my body is in a state of calm and my heart rate low. While I do have episodes of stress, I don’t believe this is continual even when totally relaxed/first thing in the morning/ doing things I like. It now is actually causing me anxiety because of such high readings. Something here is vastly wrong. My resting heart rate is low 60s so to say my body is continually stressed and I’m pushing myself is incorrect. I can’t see myself continuing to use this app with the constant notifications telling me how I need to calm down or rest etc; it is actually now causing me stress even when relaxed..Version: 3.8.9

Rip offAt first I liked this product, and as a personal trainer I was recommending it to clients. I understand you have your membership system and it’s clear from the outset that you need to be a member to link it with other health apps. I did not expect you to remove my ability to see measurement details after only a few days using the product though! You say we need to do a minimum of 10 days to set a genuine baseline but you don’t even allow access to measurements after this so what’s the point. I understand my situation better than you do, the fit & athletes out there get absolutely no benefit from your guides that are based on the average joe. I don’t want to know whether you think I’ve recovered well, I want to see the measurements so I can make that evaluation myself..Version: 2.1.7

Would love to loveAlways have issues with measurements even though I’m sitting still as a statue. Only works for me 50%(?) of the time. It used to always work but not anymore and it’s super annoying and frustrating. Sometimes I try three times and nada. Don’t think I’ll renew if this doesn’t change..Version: 4.1.3

Hugely inaccurate heart rateThe heart rate is hugely inaccurate as I have to check my heart rate on a blood pressure machine which is checked by the hospital and that also matches the pulse oximeter I have to use as well yet this is out by at 15-45 beats each time! I don’t need you guys to check my accuracy etc as already explained my machine is checked already by medical professionals and I know what my stats are and I’m under frequent review so I know your results can’t possibly be right. I have already deleted the app and found one that is actually accurate with the heart rate meaning I will therefore trust the hrv too..Version: 3.6.0

Never works - biggest waste of money everTheir servers are always “having issues” - as their help desk so succinctly told me. And they constantly tell you you are stressed beyond belief - basically ready to die at any minute - even when you feel fine and all systems are go. There are so many better products on the market. Don’t waste your money. And as to the developer’s response, they’re always having a tech issue. If you read the other negative reviews, the developer seems to use “tech” issues as a convenient excuse every time somebody says the app isn’t worthwhile. If you have that many tech issues, maybe you ought to go back to the drawing board and start again. NO COMPANY has that many tech issues unless they are working out of their basement and their server is a vintage 1980s home computer. Give it a rest. As for the measurements not matching, again multiple complaints. NOBODY’s body registers this many catastrophic readings for real unless they’re dying of a terminal illness. This app is pure nonsense..Version: 3.7.3

WelltoryGreat job keeps me in check with my heart and stress levels.Version: 4.0.1

Very disappointing overallThere’s a few great features - the textual explanations for the scores! Great! The video links. Mostly ok. Suggestions for improving scores: lacking - they aren’t suitable for people with chronic illness. An option should be available The “pick words to make a sentence” is next to useless. Doesn’t provide enough useful options. Accuracy of camera readings: appalling. False tachycardia recorded several times so rMSSD, HRV etc are completely off. Connect to other equipment: only on paid app. So vital data can’t be used, even in the 5 day “Pro” Test period. So you can’t even see if it works properly or not. Price: far to expensive for the chronically ill. We aren’t all athletes and can’t afford to spend that amount monthly / yearly. I’d like to work with you to provide a service for the chronically ill with more suitable options and just a one off maximum £10 fee. Option to download data would be more than useful. Some improvements to your algorithms seems indicated in my experience with your app..Version: 2.0.5

MmmThis app is super useful for providing data (namely VLF) that no other apps on the market provide. A number of things are frustrating though. 1. The format of the graphs with emphasis on the welltory trademark metrics obscures viewing the standard metrics and is very irritating. 2. The developers change the app really often, which can be disorientating or confusing, sometimes it’s better to just leave things alone. 3. There are no session graphs, averaged data isn’t as useful as graphs (such as those provided by SweetBeatHRV) 4. Some of the advice during the sessions is either too homogenised or is just opinions being presented as fact, this is irritating when it’s condescending and actually isn’t that well informed of an opinion. When it comes down to it, sometimes I wish the developers would just slow down and ground the existing app rather than constantly trying to improve it and branch out into training modules etc. also, I prefer a live display of a HRV score as found in other apps like elitehrv. Thanks for the good work and I hope the developers take this feedback on board. ✌🏼.Version: 2.4.4

First app reviewI've never reviewed an app but felt compelled to in this case. Like others who have commented, the apps readings often contradict my the way I feel...I've read the response to Welltory on this so I'll skip that. The bigger frustration is the sometimes contradictory messaging. Last night my stress level was 36% at 9pm telling me "a good nights sleep is all you need." 9:37, I get a message to "take a break" while I was watching TV. At 10pm my stress increased to 60% as I was laying in bed getting ready to get a good nights sleep as requested. This morning at 6:31 I'm shown that my stress is 63% and "slow as molasses as burnout passes." shown that "I slept fine" (7h 22m) and then I'm told I could use some rest. There is likely some explanation for this neurotic set of readings but regardless the app should be easier to comprehend. I'm educated and as an endurance athlete and regular meditator I'm in above average physical health. This app would have me think otherwise. I'm certainly not going to upgrade to the paid version of incant trust the free version..Version: 4.2.2

Awful connectivityThere’s nothing like waking up and taking your measurements (like that app tells you) but won’t work due to terrible connectivity with finger. 10 times in a row it wouldn’t work..Version: 4.3.1

Really don’t under the point of this appIt doesn’t often correlate with what I’m feeling. It’s like it’s doing it’s own thing and responding to itself and I can’t find me in the picture. It gives the same advice over and over which isn’t even useful in terms of knowing how to improve anything. A good day for the gym/don't go to the gym sort of thing. It doesn’t present you with graphs of how you’re doing over time for comparison or growth. It’s a scroll up for new messages so its like a news feed for the day. I really don’t understand this app nor does it resonate, nor is it interesting in terms of the data it gives nor is it helping in getting to know how to help oneself. What am I missing? Is it that I don’t know how to use the app and I’m doing something wrong?.Version: 3.7.2

A lot of potential but cons outweigh prosI have a chronic health condition and used to use this app daily to help monitor it but I no longer find it helpful for a few reasons. Firstly, the apple watch readings are wildly inaccurate so I’ve had to disconnect apple health from the app entirely to keep the readings consistent. This means I lose a lot of helpful data that made the app worthwhile for me. Secondly, the daily move report with comments like “how about getting up to move those legs more” are incredibly ableist and offensive when that is not possible for me. I’ve contacted welltory *multiple* times about this and they do manually turn off this feature but then it returns a week or so later. This offends me to the point that I am going to delete the app after I post this review. And finally, I don’t like that you have to contact welltory to unsubscribe, or even see subscription details such as the renewal date. It’s simply not good enough for an app developer to make it that complicated and seems like a ploy so people don’t bother to cancel, quite frankly. It is a good app in theory and could be amazing but these three things are dealbreakers for me..Version: 3.3.3

App fails to sync, will not show your dataDoesn’t identify the date correctly, consistently, or at all, depending. Does not show data it has collected. Makes you wait indefinitely while it is “syncing” but never completes. Sometimes says server too busy. Your data is never revealed for you to use. Does not identify where to look for your data, so you go fishing. You wind up at endless blank screens, sometimes black, which you cannot exit, or nothing but white with a back arrow. Unusable. Will demand refund. Oh, and you cannot export your data. Nice touch. I needed my health data. But, “we’re working to resolve a technical issue on the server” is all I see, for days. And despite tech support and the developer’s response that it can all still be done from the web, no, it cannot. Because of the aforementioned server issue. As though they didn’t know. And, it’s not an “inconvenience“ — I need hard data for personal health reasons that may make crucial differences in my life and longevity. I trusted Welltory to not rob me of my own data, so I have no other records of this vital time, and now I have no context. Developers: You stole from me the very thing you purport to provide, and in doing so, you have robbed me of my ability to make informed healthcare decisions..Version: 3.0.0

BUYER BEWARE!They used some pretty fancy wording to explain how to upgrade to Pro version. I would NEVER spend $100 on an App for the first part. Secondly I read over the way to upgrade and I read about how they charged you monthly and that it was a subscription that would auto renew every MONTH. So when you keep saying month you lead people to think they will bill you MONTHLY, like your literature said. I will concede that I should’ve known better and I should have looked even further into it. It was later and I was tired so I only looked at two different spots to read about the subscription policy and the pricing. Anyways when I finally decided to do it it was a shock to my system when the receipt popped up saying 98.99 had been debited from my bank account!! I was so angry! See I had thought about doing this for a few days so I had bought a $15 iTunes card prepared to try a months worth to see if I liked it. So let me tell you I was livid when they took my $15 plus another 98 from my bank account (my fault for having PayPal hooked up to it I guess). Needless to say had I only tried to pursue a refund through the app it wouldn’t work. First they took over 24 hours to get back to me and when they did it was basically to say they couldn’t refund me. Thankfully I chatted with iTunes customer service and explained how this app was misleading people and they refunded me my money. Except right now the money had been taken out of my account and sometime in the next 30 days I can expect to see a refund. So for now I am down $98. To some people that wouldn’t mean anything but to my family that’s a lot, that hurt us bad. I realize it can all be turned back on me for not researching enough, but even so the way they worded their upgrade options is on purpose to deceive people, I know this for sure. Also when I went to ITunes to manage the subscription and cancel there was suddenly about 5 or six different subscription options and none of the ones listed was even the one I had originally chose and was charged for. So if you plan to use this app be aware of that. I never did use the app because of all of this. Just wanted to save someone the trouble. TLDR: they scammed me by saying it was a monthly subscription when it was actually a yearly subscription and took my iTunes balance of 15 and took another 98 out of my bank account!.Version: 2.4.1

So far I believe…..I believe the app mostly, because it’s reflecting how I feel most of the time. But I’m not 100% on all the data it gives, just when the colored liquid starts flowing, I know red is bad and green is good Etc… and a few of the insights. I haven’t sprung for the premium plan yet, because it’s kind of expensive for me at least, to spend on something I’m not 100% clear about in the first place. I think it’s obvious my heart rate would be effected by stress etc… but it’s also accurate if I’m worried or something is bothering me that I’m not stressing about but still.. I also take anxiety medication so I’m concerned wether that gives a false or a more accurate reading. I’m anxious to see what happens when I’m put back on my blood pressure medication in a few days.. I will update after that. So far I give it a 3-3.5.Version: 4.0.1

Not for the nocturnalThe app seems to be based around someone with a 9-5 office job. Being naturally nocturnal, I’ve just spent several days really confusing the app! “Full of energy” at midnight and “far too stressed” at 7am and apparently at 5pm I’ve had a good day with a little stress - when I’ve been asleep all day! Haha not the app for me then. Maybe pro has options to tie in with your sleep cycle? I also found accuracy was tricky as apparently I wasn’t keeping still -I found it really hard to keep the phone still unless doing shallow breaths..Version: 2.2.0

Need more optionsWhen you take your heart rate reading and fill out your feelings etc, you get to the point where it asks you to add tags but most of the stuff doesn’t apply to any of my situations and the things that do affect me aren’t in the list to choose from. Add more options or let us manually enter tags for what’s causing our feelings..Version: 2.0.4

I like this app, but…It’s a great app and good design, even though some things aren’t as advertised (maybe depends on the type of phone/watch?) I was hoping to get readings on my Apple Watch but all I get are health advice and facts, kind of a bummer, but oh well. I also sometimes the readings can just be… well… off? They don’t match with how I currently feel. Sometimes when I’m tired and groggy, it tells me my energy is at 80-90% while stress levels are below 40%. Other times it tells me my body is under an immense pressure 80% stressed 20% energy, when I actually feel fine. Also late at night I get a reading telling me Im under a lot of pressure, but I stayed up till 6am and the next reading tells me I'm rested, full of energy and low on stress… How does that make sense? Am I not doing something right or understanding this well? I think the app also thinks when ever I get a fast heart rate after eating or taking an edible, it thinks I'm dying or something but it’s just how the body works during digestion. Sometimes I forget to drink water too, but I can’t blame the app for not knowing whether or not I am hydrated enough. Still, at least the app gives me good advice & pointers and some reassurance about my health considering I’m a hypochondriac. However I hope the app isn’t rigged to tell you the obvious depending on the time of day..Version: 3.8.9

Sleep metric is not goodI want to respond to the response I got from the app but the link to do so doesn’t work. I said the sleep metric is inaccurate, basically it cuts off early and doesn’t pick back up. They said: Hello there. Thank you for the feedback! We appreciate it a lot. We're sorry that your sleep analysis wasn't accurate. We collect your sleep data from the aggregator (Apple Health), so you need to check it there. Most probably, your sleep app didn't share the correct sleep data with AH — all the data we got is from there. But to help you out, we need you to check your data in the aggregator because we don't have access to your AH or sleep app. My response: Your app might not work the way you think it does and you should really look into that. If I get up to use the restroom, WellTory is DONE gathering data. Doesn’t matter if I go back to sleep for six more hours that are perfectly captured by both Pillow and Apple Heath, WellTory is OUT. It knows you woke up, and it stops collecting data and tells you you didn’t sleep well. Or sometimes it tells you you slept like a champ! For ninety minutes. But it doesn’t go back and collect the complete data, so it’s basically useless..Version: 3.8.9

Uh.... huhI’ve been using the app for a little bit after buying a month past the trial period. I really don’t understand how it works at all. On days I sleep better and feel great, it says my energy is low and my stress is high. On days I feel tired and lethargic it says my energy is high and my stress is low (not at all aligning with how I feel). I’ve even connected my Apple Watch to try to make it more accurate but I am at the point where I don’t really trust what it is saying at all. None of the daily test results map to how I’m feeling at the time or they aren’t really telling you what that means to how you feel (sounds like a content UX issue....). It sounds smart with a lot of terms but I’m not someone working in healthcare so why am I having to Google to figure out why I feel different from my results when I am paying? Do actual user testing on your content with people outside of the medical field and look for comprehension issues..Version: 2.6.7

Rubbish appPromises so much. Delivers so little. Save your cash - the ridiculous amount of subscription money they charge. Like a money version of a blood sucking leech on your bank account. “Snooze & blues: you slept poorly”. Brilliant Sherlock!! I’m pretty sure I can tell that, myself!! And now your inane chirpy banter has kicked up my unpleasantness, another level. Thanks for the wake-up angst!! I paid for a year but stopped using it after a couple of months of frustration. I don’t want to sit as still as a statue on the bed when I wakeup, for what feels like an eternity, just so I can pass your consistency qualifications. Holding my finger on the camera for 2 or 3 minutes making sure I don’t so much as burp - ‘less I get a warning. “Don’t move!”… but I need to use the bathroom!!.Version: 4.0.0

Lifetime subscriptionI do love all the features and options this app has. The one issue I have is trying to give them more money actually. I keep try to tap the discount button for a lifetime subscription but nothing happens. I opened a ticket with support and there answer was I don’t have enough money to buy the subscription. Huh?!?! How do they know how much money I have in my account attached to my phone? I can answer that question now….WRONG!!! Why would I try and buy an app I can’t afford. Wouldn’t that be pretty stupid. I’ve even tried with a pre-paid Apple Pay Card. Clicking that ad button within the app doesn’t work guys. At least for me it doesn’t. I’ve updated the OS, shut the phone off and turned it back on. Still no luck. I give up. Guess I won’t be giving any money when this one expires. Thanks for the memories though..Version: 4.1.3

Could be goodOverall the app could be good but it seems to be locked into an American time zone so as a user in the UK I get updates at the wrong times suggesting that my exercise for the previous day was bad despite it having only just started eg saying 1 min exercise because in I’m time it’s taken the result at 00:10 when I’m asleep. Could be improved greatly. The feed also only seems to update when it feels like it there doesn’t seem to be much consistency I’ll be deleting as there are better apps available.Version: 3.2.1

DisorganisedThis could potentially be a great program however the display of your data is confused and full of irrelevant information ( advertising?). Its hard to find a simple table of where you are and where you are going. They want to push what they want to push, not what you want to see. They even keep advertising for me to buy ‘Pro’! Cant they see from the database i already subscribe to ‘pro’?. The web designer seems very confused!.Version: 3.7.7

Still in beta but priced as finishedAfter several frustrating conversations with developers, I’ve concluded this app is still in beta stage, but their charging for a finished product. There are basic issues, such as the app giving me readings in the middle of the night when they’re not relevant. I keep being told the next update will iron them out. They did not change in the update however and they are basic usability issues. It repeatedly gives me only two pieces of advice in response to my scores - listen to classical music and meditate. I already did both of those! Is there really nothing more tailored or original to suggest given the high price paid! It asks for tons of data through questionnaires about your personality type, but the data is then not integrated into the app at all. Mostly it repeats back data your phone was already telling you elsewhere via the apps it takes its data from, just in a more annoying and repetitive way. In conclusion, I wish I had not wasted my money on this app. If you do want to buy it, wait until it is a few versions down the line so it actually works properly..Version: 3.1.0

InconsistentI gave this app a week and I have to say, it’s not great! For the past 7 days, it tells me every day that my stress levels are above 90% and need to chill. I went for a morning walk, afterwards 99% stress level!! I’m honestly not stressed in the least. I tried to alter my fitness regime to all different types of activities but no success. Every day I’m above 90% Looking at the app is more stressful! Either that or I should go to hospital for a check up! I’m a very fit and healthy person and looking at this app, actually make me stress more!.Version: 4.2.0

A bit lostHow do I follow up on some of my scores or do I just go back to my blood pressure machine which I comprehend or does this app provide too much information Or am I out of this league Have been contacted by the Admin of the App and hopefully I will more than fully informed Here’s hoping.Version: 4.2.1

“Cancel subscription”You have a “cancel subscription” button on your website? Not in the app? And the button on your website doesn’t work? But, you have a support email that you list in a few places except where “cancel subscription” is located???? Why make it so hard? Why do I have to email you and wait for you to respond to me about wanting to cancel??? As for your gold standard algorithms, perhaps they don’t account for the inaccurate readings from phone cameras. And you cannot force a reading from iwatch it just randomly takes measurements. After using the app consistently for months, according to my doctor if your app is correct I would be close to death or have serious health issues. Non of which are the case. Moreover, my wife and friends who are very physically active people as well have used the free addition for at least 12 months and report inaccuracies that just mean it is unreliable. I thought your paid version might be better but it’s just not..Version: 3.1.0

It’s a pretty interface but the numbers don’t make senseBeen comparing the data to other hrv apps and the hrv numbers are widely inconsistent with other apps. Really strange interface , makes it difficult to track your changes. Content they push on you on the feed is annoying. I do like the facts they present while you are waiting for measurement. Overall app is ok but it needs some more thought into the usability of the app..Version: 3.1.0

NopeInteresting concept but bloated and really pushy, almost neurotic.. Expensive too, esp when I foolishly have to subscribe for a year and then decide the constant harassment is just too much after a few days. Somewhat concerned that l’ve donated $100 to a Russian operation following another push request to confirm my email… money scramble.. here Apple… here whoever. Settled on Athlytic, feels better fit for me, mindful that these apps are just predictive algorithms.Version: 3.8.9

Doing too muchThe idea behind this app is great, but execution seems subpar. It is just weird/odd that they do not allow users to move / hide stuff from their feed. I got this app purely to track my HRV daily and obtain insights. I have followed the instructions to a T for both Apple Watch and camera HRV measurements. However, the app is pulling in the random HRV measurements that the Apple Watch takes, rather than utilizing the Breathe measurements I am taking first thing in the morning (per the instructions). I’ve only had one random HRV measurement pull in and show on my measurement history, and workouts are not being captured. Would be nice if the app would work very well and consistently on the basics, then introduce the fluff later (ie the prompts/notices/etc that are forced on you in the feed). Response to developer: I have been taking measurements with Apple Watch using 3 min breathe cycles exactly as described in your instructions. I have not been receiving any messages about low quality readings. Over the last week I have been doing the breathe cycles lying down; this week I’ll try sitting up and report back..Version: 3.6.0

Great concept but overpricedPositives Gives informative and helpful information about HRV readings that are easy to to understand and meaningful to everyone. Other apps of this type use complicated and unnecessary difficult to read information making the useless and annoying to the average users that just want to know how their bodies are faring. Allows the use of the phone camera for those who are not willing to pay for external readers. Personally I love the Elite HRV Corsense a brilliant HRV monitor with a great app which is free with optional upgrades. Negatives The readings often give contradicting results within the same reading. The HRV results are not always accurate in comparison to more specialised apps that measure HRV with consistent accuracy. Grossly overpriced. The developers could have offered an ad subsidised free option or a moderately priced one time purchase only with may be paid upgrades every three years or so. This would have made the app affordable giving good revenue to the developers and increase the use of the app. Instead they went the suicidal subscription model with an absurd price tag. After 5 days the free app ceases to work and returns very limited results that can be freely obtained from other free apps. There is no way that I am paying that absurd subscription so I will stick with Elite HRV and HRV4TRAINING apps that are well priced and give excellent and accurate results..Version: 2.6.8

UI is horrendous. From gaudy half-highlight impossible to read text, to overly intrusive cards with links to articles, the dashboard of this app is so terrible that I refuse to use this app any longer. Who cares what data the app compiles when you present it in an a completely unreadable and annoying fashion. Edit: They responded with a useless response about having them help me navigate the app to understand the data… except the data isn’t the problem… the way data is physically presented is awful—it’s like driving a car with a windshield covered I. Mud. Your UI is gawdy, the text is atrocious, and you literally half highlight words to make them extremely difficult to read—especially with advertisement cards all over the place. There is no help you can provide users except to remove the ad cards and change the font and remove the half highlighting. There are other apps that obtain the same data, and simply present the data in line item so you can actually read it and use it. Completely obtuse developer response..Version: 3.7.1

It works sometimesI've taken a about 6 measurements with the app. About half the time it seems to get it right. There's been times where I've gotten a great sleep, feel amazing, have a tonne of energy and it will say I should rest because Im stressed and have no energy. Then other times I'll feel terrible, like I'm about to come down with something and it will say I've got lots of energy and I should take on all challenges for the day. Again sometimes it gets it right but for the most part it's not right.Version: 2.2.0

Great Concept but Unreliable DataGreat concept, but app requires a lot of development before it can be useful. I use a number of HRV monitoring tools and find this one particularly ineffective and frustrating to use, regularly not being able to take accurate readings. I love the concept of this app but the time required to use it, combined with unreliable data makes it not that useful overall. I hope it gets better with time as it has great potential..Version: 3.0.4

SubscriptionI very interested in this app, but it does not give the option to do it monthly 😔.Version: 4.1.3

UselessThis app claims to accurately predict how you feel presently and give tips on how to improve your health and well-being based on your resting heart rate. I can say this has done neither for me. This app claims that I need to rest every time I test my heart rate before I go for a heavy lifting or cardio work out. It also claims I have low energy, when in fact I feel excellent and am in excellent health. My Fitbit versa tracker and app is far more accurate and informative than this app could ever be. I’m sure the developers wanted to make something that can improve your life by reading your heart rate through the light and camera of your phone, but this cannot predict how you feel and how to improve your life based on heart rate alone without more information on your lifestyle. Combining fitness tracking and nutrition tracking is the way to improve your lifestyle not analyzing your heart rate through your phone. This app is nothing but a novelty and does nothing to improve your overall health..Version: 3.8.0

DisappointedI didn’t want to leave a review, I actually wanted to contact someone about what I see in my App. I went to the website and it was more advertisement, no support. They do offer a help section which I didn’t find very useful. I downloaded the app and I have the pro version. The videos that I viewed mention all these different things that you can do, like immune health and other categories, I don’t have in my pro version. I have basically exercise information and what my heart rate did throughout the day. The same information I get from my standard Apple health app. I read that there was a recent release of a redesign but I have the latest release and it’s the same. I also see a videos showing a completely different interface then I have. I also tried to dictate within the review app and it doesn’t allow dictation but every other program I have does. I hope someone can let me know why my information doesn’t look like anything what’s being advertised and where is the other information is for $75..Version: 3.5.0

Inaccurate data + unhelpful support = disappointingI wanted to like this app SOOOOO BAD because it serves such an important function in a persons life IF the HRV data is ACTUALLY accurate. It’s NOT. It’s that simple. You can be a competitive athlete with an excellent HRV, a solid recovery protocol, and get 7 days in a row of good nights rest with no training and the app will still not match your subjective feelings. Not only will the app read low energy when you have high energy, high stress when you have NO stress. To add fuel to the fire they employ a support staff that is incompetent and unhelpful. I’ve taken over 250 measurements with their PRO version with a polar heart rate strap following all of their procedures to the T! They do very little to solve your ACTUAL problems INSTEAD they just send random knowledge base articles that have nothing to do with your concern and after you finally get to the bottom of the real issue which is an ALGORITHM issue. They say things like “we’re working really hard to improve our algorithms are theres a big update coming”. So wait... you admit this app is inaccurate and impractical but continue to charge ME and other people for a PRO version of it? Good deal! SAVE YOUR TIME AND MONEY FOLKS.Version: 2.6.7

GoodI like this app very much, but too go pro with all features is too expensive 9$ a month is too much for something that you are not sure about if it is really tracking you or just standard text that will appear after fixed results need more convincing that it works but will use those free results as long as the are free..Version: 3.0.0

Great but expensive after free trialLove the app and great to force a bit of relaxation if only to improve your results. It’s amazing how much info seems to be read from just a finger reading! The free 5 day trial is neat too, if not a little lacking of advertising, but I can’t justify £8 a month for an app! Maybe a one off payment of this amount but I really don’t see why they need a subscription platform for an app that doesn’t rely on external input e.g. doctor results analysis etc. Maybe I’m missing something and yes, there are probably continual improvements being added in the background but at the same cost as a prescription you might be better speaking to your GP if you’re actually concerned about stress and well-being..Version: 2.0.3

Data is great but new presentation is awfulThe data and information this app gives you from the readings ie excellent. However the new presentation with moving coloureds liquid levels and bubbles is just awful. It’s messy, it’s noisy, it demeans the data and choice of colours of background and text make it hard to read in some circumstances. Let me know when you fix the display. We want clean crisp data presentation please..Version: 3.1.0

Reading the results is like reading horoscopesI had this app for couple of weeks and I have to say, the results summary after each exercise is way off to what the reality is. If I was to follow the advise given by the app I be a couch potato with my feet up all day as apparently my energy levels are always low and I’m possibly feeling hazy. I can’t describe how far from how I really feel this is. Also, the overall and masses of info given blended in with all kinds of metrics derived from unreliable measurements makes this app quite counter productive when it comes stress level management. Keep it simple and to the point.Version: 4.2.1

Beware! Stay away! Won’t let you cancel subscription 😡This app is interesting at first and than you realize that it is stupid expensive for was it does. When you go to cancel and come the the realization that you can’t manage in Apple subscriptions and that they have employed dark patterns for cancellation, you start to wonder if they did this because they know their retention rate will likely fall off a cliff if they don’t scam you into a renewal.Version: 4.1.3

So nearly…but no cigars I’m afraidI’ve used this app a number of times and have deleted it a number of times. I love the idea but can’t quite get on with it. Data is great, but the presentation is a little messy. Almost too much going on to use effectively. A configurable dashboard would be nice. The main reason for getting rid this time is cost. If there was a monthly option I would likely jump at it, but not prepared to pay the £70+ for the annual membership if I’m not fully happy. Sorry guys. I’ll be back to try again soon 👍.Version: 3.8.3

Great product. Unreliable heart rate variability toolWelltory suggests we use the meditation app. on Apple Watch for three minutes to measure HRV and Key Metrics, but it is unreliable. It only works and captures the HRV about 8 out of 10 times. I can see the meditation in the Health app., but Welltory does not show the metrics. Because I have subscribed to the Welltory, this is a frustration. It’s not a good customer experience to pay for apps that don’t reliably work..Version: 4.2.0

Hate it since the new updateI preferred how it was prior to this update - where you could see your HRV scores in a nice table. Since they updated it - it’s just confusing, too many graphics and not enough easy to read data. Going to delete it..Version: 4.1.2

Great app made impossible to useWelltory has great features, especially the comparison between Apple health data but the camera scanner is next to functionless, the signal quality is always too low however I measure under any circumstances, network signal, pressure on camera etc Aside from that I’ve never seen a less accessible app. The user interface is designed to assault your eyes giving you little access to the data in the sea of the worst graphic design I’ve yet to see on the App Store. Such a shame because it’s so close to being functional..Version: 3.2.0

Daylight RobberyOk - lets start with the positive. In the free version there are some interesting hooks that entice you in thinking about the upgrade. There is some good information, but the word selection after your daily reading is just nonsense in line with other reviewers comments. There is an element to this that targets the “worried well” and feeds their concerns about ill health & the impact of anxiety and daily life on their health. I’m a naturally curious sort, with a background in human performance. I upgraded to pro version as it showed it would connect with my fitness tracker. Actually, it doesn’t, even when you use the bridge app to facilitate- there is data loss. Now the upgrade version had two different price points, I went for £6pm & was billed for a whole year straight away. That’s a bit of a shock. That was not clearly communicated and is exceptionally sneaky/devious of the developers. However, here is the real rub. You get to download it, upgrade & and be charged for a whole year to find it doesn’t actually work in the way it portrays itself. Very disappointing - daylight robbery.Version: 2.4.1

Nuiscanxe lifetime subscription offersHello please stop bombarding me with lifetime subscription offers. I have paid for the yearly version as I like the software I don’t expect to get harassed every few days on my phone and watch to pay you for a lifetime version. Once you have seen the user has cancelled one of the boxes you should not show them the lifetime offer again, unless they request it..Version: 4.2.1

Not ready for prime time yet…States almost every measure is poor quality. I’ve worked in labs and can follow procedures. If you leave notifications on, it’s nearly endless pings. It will flat out refuse to measure sometimes. Pointless..Version: 4.3.1

MehI’m not impressed with the insights or the interface… it feels like an unfinished product and it’s a bit clumsy to use. A few issues: 1. There isn’t enough guidance as to how to leverage information the app gives you 2. It doesn’t take consistent readings with Apple Watch 3. The interface is not clear and the feed is random and chaotic. Overall, I’m glad I only bought a one month subscription to try it out and I won’t be renewing, though, I was initially really interested in the product and the insights the advertising promised. It fell short of expectations..Version: 4.2.1

Hard to trust the results9 out of ten tests on this app tell me in effect that I’m dead or about to die. Don’t exercise, don’t do anything important, just sit on the sofa and do finger exercises (like my 90 year old father in law, Im exaggerating slightly but no far from the truth). I gave it the benefit if the doubt at a period I was down with a virus, although I was fine to go through my day and tackle a lot of challenging tasks, but when it continued beyond that (with the exact same results and report) I lost faith. Either my doctor and cardiologist have missed something or this app is at best very incomplete, or the phone is not a good reading device (I have a relatively recent iPhone). And of course, if things were that bad, shouldn’t the report say “see your doctor immediately”?! I would give it one star but I’m giving two because of the benefit of the doubt..Version: 3.6.1

Still has some work to doWelltory still has a ways to go in explaining how they come up with scores from the heart rate variability measurements. My scores can change drastically in the space of a few minutes, with no real indicators or causes that I can identify and attribute to the change. The feedback is often discouraging, especially when it tells you to sit this one out at the beginning of the day, lol. When you scroll through the statistics, it’s very difficult to tell which day you are looking at. This is really a basic that they need to get right - just print the date for every box of information. Seems like a no-brainer. I’m supporting this app with a one year membership and hoping they make lots of improvement. This has potential to be useful..Version: 4.2.1

Has potentialI actually really like the idea behind this app and think it has a lot of potential. However, I still think it has a long way to go. The menus are way to complicated and everything is hidden in menus within menus with no clear intuitive design. The feed is completely jumbled and disorganised and doesn’t seem to follow any sort of sensible pattern. I also find it pointless that most of my alerts and recommendations are received in the middle of the night. I had a notification at 5am telling me that the day was almost over and it was time to have an early night. As I say I can see the potential for this app but you’re charging for the pro version when it seems clear it should still be in beta testing. I’ve unsubscribed for now and will revisit in a couple of months to see if there are any improvements.Version: 3.2.2

A lot of guessworkUse the free app and don’t pay. The app simply takes a bit of info from app watch and guesses your stress and energy level. No science here..Version: 4.0.1

H10Can not connect..Version: 3.2.7

Not all it seems to be.I originally paid 12 months upfront for the app because they showed on Twitter images of it being used on an Apple Watch. I couldn’t get it on my watch and their support said the pictures they used were just to get attention but not available on the watch. They give repetitive hints to lower blood pressure such as consume more dairy products which is not a good thing to do to lower blood pressure. I gave three stars because the one good thing on the app is the heart rate variability measurement..Version: 4.1.0

Just Impossible - Fix this! FEELING VERY RIPPED OFFI have a Pro subscription. Every time I try to login on the website I meet a roadblock… they want me to now subscribe for a lifetime subscription. Thing is, there is nothing to allow me to get past this page and use the subscription for the “perks” I already have paid for. My only option is to go to the “Old Version”. Whatever that’s about, IDK but its freaking annoying and given… I HAVE PAID ALREADY FOR PRO, WHY CAN’T I JUST LOGIN AND USE IT?.Version: 4.2.1

Disappointing and expensiveFirst off they don’t tell you that there is a free intro period so I ponied up the $80 for the full app service. The app immediately on set up wants you to download and purchase several other apps for full functionality. Buy this time I was already feeling burned due to the free trial period notice after the purchase screen so I have not opted for any of the partner apps. This app works solely off of manual hrv recordings and you telling it how you feel! It also gathers info from your health app and what ever other app you connect to it. The readings are very inaccurate, you can take 3 readings in a short amount of time and they are all very different. Then when you go to look at your metrics the layout is very convoluted and not informative. It is not streamlined for you to access current and past information at a glance to see where you’re at and your history against your training schedule to figure out how to adjust your training. What a waste of $80 I really hoped it would work since I have an Apple Watch and use it for all of my training. I was looking at the Whoop band but did not like the thought of wearing two bands. I wish there was a way to request a refund..Version: 3.1.0

Illegal demandsApparently I had to let them scan me with the camera and I had no right to refuse. I wasn’t allowed to proceed to the app unless I chose “try it now”. Absolutely criminal behaviour. How is this horrible app allowed in the store??? Update: the reaponse from the developer is an absolute disgrace. They’re insisting on their illegal demands. And they also sent me spam without having my consent, which is also illegal. Update 2: the developer is still arrogant and unapologetic about their dodgy behaviour. You have no right to demand to record a video of me before you allow me to use the app for the first time. And telling me to use the chat in the app, when you’re not allowing me access to the app before you record me, is extremely rude sarcasm. You think you’re funny? Update 3: the developer remains unapologetic about their illegal practices. They are not allowing access to the app until they have recorded you on video. This is totally illegal and they should be banned from the store..Version: 3.8.3

Now basic is not free and unintuitive UX seals the deal not to use anymoreThis suddenly changed from a free App to a high cost App and the UX in the upgrade is awful and unintuitive. Usually don’t write reviews but I really felt that it would be nice to be warned that there is no longer a “free” trial but as the UX was so bad I could still take measurements but not understand that I could only see results if I paid what I would consider a large amount of money for it. And I did pay the first time last year when I started using the App but thought it was very expensive for little additional functionality so went back to the basic app. Sorry to be so negative but it was an App that I enjoyed and liked with the basics but that in my opinion though is not worth the exorbitant amount of money being charged now. Plus awful UX now..Version: 3.0.0

Could be a lot better than it isLots of redundant useless information and very slow to update the relevant heart data even when linked to the Apple Watch and apple Health. I find myself going back to other apps to check HRV as it’s not updated in this one until the day after if at all. It keeps sending alerts that have nothing to do with my metrics and is annoying and I delete it. Could be great if it really stuck to the data that gives heart health metrics..Version: 3.7.7

Cancel within 14 daysHi This app is not working for me. I live in NZ and when I am awake and do the reading it’s saying I should sleep and my energy levels are good. As I am well within the 14 days to cancel my subscription and get my full refund back. The help section talks about how to cancel your subscription but not in how do you get around getting a full refund. Cheers Clint.Version: 3.7.7

Could be betterIt’s okay, but has a few niggles It won’t take a background reading ( hrv, stress, energy health etc) unless your completely relaxed but not asleep, meaning that most o the time I don’t get one, making it difficult to monitor 🤷‍♀️as you don’t get the insight information You can force it to measure these by using the breathe app on your Apple Watch, but this only works when you have Wi-Fi and then not always, I had to do it several times sometimes before I get a reading You get a 7 day free period, but not everything is open , so it’s not possible to tell how effective it is. I wanted to know my sleep data, but this remained locked during the trial period 🤷‍♀️ I personally didn’t think it was worth £6 .17 a month , I might of considered it if I had a better idea of the sleep analysis or it was a bit cheaper In response to feedback from the developer, to date I’ve not been able to get a reading on the breathe app using 4g I can only get a reading when using Wi-Fi , so in my experience your comment is not true.Version: 3.7.1

Don’t do the updateHUGE issues with the update. Says my heart rate is 47, then 96, then 62, then 77. Jumping all around absolutely useless now..Version: 4.2.0

Apparently I'm always on the verge of collapseI got this app because I liked the idea of having another way to track my health and sleep patterns and work outs. However, I have not been happy with it for the most part. My sleep stats seem to get recorded only sporadically unlike when I first downloaded the app. That's a somewhat minor issue because I can always see them in Apple Health. The more disturbing issue is that, according to the app, I always seem to be overworked, overtired, and/or seemingly on the verge of collapse. I work from home, I get exercise, and aside from gym workouts I don't do much that would put a huge strain on my body. But every notification I get seems to sound the alarm that I'm not well. Even when I have taken a day off from work and am just lounging around the house, my notifications indicate that I'm not doing well. It's al rather confusing and bothersome. And while I have a background in exercise, health, anatomy, and physiology, the info in the app, while I'm sure some in the medical field would find very informative, seems a bit much for users not as versed in those fields. I may hold onto the app for now for basic functions (I ended my annual membership) I don't know how long that will last..Version: 4.2.0

Anomalies & minor design issuesI’m a reasonably intelligent male with a sense of humour and not a “Karen”, and I applaud this app which I have a Pro subscription for, BUT: 1. Finger covering flash and camera - “your getting a good reading” - and whilst keeping the finger rock steady have spasmodic detection problems and anomalous readings 2. Alerts to go check feed, and consistent “can’t load your feed” messages when you go there 3. Significant variations between Apple Watch only readings and finger readings - like, how suspect is the Apple Watch feed (not a Welltory fault?)? In the order of 30% and greater 4. Faint grey timestamps and writing on screen which is hard to read 5. The big one - you get told you’re giving a good signal and without changing finger position at all - good coverage of light/camera lens, no shifting or changing pressure of finger - watch the app struggle to try and detect beat : multiple attempts to get the app to read the beat 6. The puzzling one - a feed indicator generated from Apple Watch reading when Apple Watch not worn from 48 hours..Version: 3.7.7

Oh dear ...UPDATED: Developer response says that it does not work on iPad as it has no flashlight. Guess they never looked at the iPad Pro's camera which has a flashlight just under the lens. With my state-of-the-art iPad Pro and this app, it simply does not work. The free start-up was used and despite me staying stock-still and complying with every aspect of instruction, it kept telling me that it could not complete the session. Tried it on my son's iPhone and my own, and they all said the same thing. Bottom line here is that at best you will get close to accurate readings, but for the subscription I could buy a pulse oximeter that does the same, more reliably and cheaper. Consigned to the corner receptacle..Version: 2.2.0

The New Version is Seriously BadI enjoyed the previous version of Welltory and spent over $100 on a yearly subscription. I am so disappointed in the new version. It is buggy, lags and is demoralising to use. The scripts used on all the results are negative and insulting. Welltory will be causing a great deal of psychological stress with their new version. The highly charged negative words will be seeping into to consciousness of all their users. I urge Welltory to speak to someone who knows about the research behind Positive Psychology and change all the scripts ASAP before doing anything to fix the technical glitches. Please avoid this app..Version: 3.0.0

Limited in usefulnessI read the dev response to my review, below. I fully understand the claims about HRV and what is supposed to be understood from these measurements. BUT, realistically, most of us feel stress, illness etc as a whole body experience, so the idea that we can feel totally fine but our HRV records as problematic is bogus. It’s not helpful. Be careful what you read into the analysis that is offered here. I found the data presented by this app confusing and contradictory, telling me at the same time that I’m doing great, but am also sluggish or similar. Different stats saying different things which were mutually exclusive a lot of the time. It often advised not to be active which I found strange when feeling fine. It kept hinting that I must have an underlying illness creating problems, which I think would be anxiety provoking for some people, but didn’t concern me as I’m well. It uses language which comes across as an attempt to be hip and peppy, but just grates after a while. (“Houston we have a problem” every day for weeks is just repetitive and dull). It’s probably useful to some extent if you don’t mind the style of it and the readings make sense to you. I would trial a month before paying a subscription so that you get a feel for it’s worth to you..Version: 3.0.4

Read this before installing v3.0Be wary of upgrading to version 3.0. It’s very different, extremely confusing. They’ve thrown the baby out with the bath water, so if you were using Welltory as a daily tool because of its clear analysis and attractive layout, be prepared for a shock as they’ve ditched all that for a messy, narrative based direction..Version: 3.0.0

InconsistentThe app and all the features is great - when it works. I find the measurement inconsistent re actually working. As great as the Help team are, unfortunately I can’t get this resolved so have moved into other apps.Version: 2.6.4

More notifications about subscription discounts than paid contentI will not be renewing my subscription in 6 months. Purchased a 1 year subscription. I get more daily notifications about lifetime subscription discounts than valuable content I assumed I would receive. Frankly annoying. There are better products out there..Version: 4.3.0

It’s a great idea but...I took three readings in the space of 10 minutes (didn’t change my activity, move around or do anything differently in that time) and got three COMPLETELY different readings. One said I was doing great with surplus energy and to get a lot done today, one said I was dangerously at risk of illness and exhaustion and I should take a break or a day off, and one said I should take it easy and do some exercise. The numbers were all completely different too. Feels kind of useless as a way to track progress if the variation is going to be that high in the space of 10 minutes..Version: 2.0.3

Seriously underperformingThis app has potential to be powerful but it seriously lacks a customisable dashboard option with key data instead there is a feed which constantly adds new data - for me this feels messy and more like a social media feed - I just don’t like it at all. That said I’m hanging in there because I know this app can be so much more and the data that is available is awesome. Come on team custom dash please..Version: 3.2.7

Disappointed with UpdateHATE the update on September 22/20. It now takes FOREVER to load your measurements and data. Scores and measurements are also now spread out in multiple places, which requires severe load times at each stop. It appears the update was an attempt to make it look better while sacrificing functionality. Very disappointed I spent the money on a premium subscription..Version: 3.0.0

Interesting dataEarly days of using it but there is a lot of info to dive into so you’ll need to set some time aside to understand how to use it. Cool that they explain the science around how they calculate everything. Bit disappointed I can’t seem to get it to work on my iWatch though like I saw in the ad :( Going to sit with the free version for a while and see how it goes and maybe my review will change..Version: 3.6.1

SubscriptionI only wanted to try for a month but was billed the entire year. How do I change the settings?.Version: 4.2.1

No mention that app requires subscriptionI liked the look of this app as it came up on my FB feed. Downloaded it and went through initial setup looks great and seemed to offer some useful insights. At the point where I could actually use the app I was prompted to take up a subscription. I declined as I didn’t expect it to be a subscription service. I’m sure the app is useful but from my perspective I didn’t like being forced to pay after going through a fairly detailed setup process containing health information. App Store does show that there are in app purchases, but I only discovered that after declining subscription, would have liked to have known before setting up account etc..Version: 3.8.8

An Honest ReviewI not sure how I found this app, gave it a free try and bought the whole package. I work 3rd shift and I am always tired. So I never know when I am 3rd shift tired or if my body is tired. This app is something that I show my family to kind of prove how much I need to rest. I have Apple Watch also. The sleep thing does not seem to be too accurate l, but I don’t usually sleep straight through the day, that might be the algorithm not sure. Stress is confusing to me, I wish it was labor different. The fact that I don’t sleep through the night might be a reason not sure. I wish there was a 3rd shift mode or something. Something that will help me say go exercise now. I am glad I bought this app and for the most part I don’t go past the pay wall with anything. Just knowing that I am not crazy and have to sleep is worth it. I am working through all the small quiz and stuff not really seeing a benefit yet. The meditation stuff does work and I am not that guy to meditate. Is it worth it? Yes . Do I want more… yes I can’t put my finger on what would be completely helpful, maybe a video explanation of the stress case just reading it ….Version: 3.8.4
