I grew up calling them "category" puzzles—"hey, save me the category puzzle!"—but whatever they're called, they're a different kind of challenge and you even up learning something sometimes, like if you're doing a puzzle about painting and you know nothing about painting, but you know a few of the terms and that helps you to get the others. One suggestion is to request a different category if you are unfamiliar with the next one up. For instance, I know absolutely nothing about Harry Potter.
