✓ Very Disappointed!As a Teen looking for an outlet for their emotions I am very Disappointed. If it cost money for a licensed therapist to have a conversation on a free app it should not be free. Or make the user have to write a few sentences on why the teen wants therapy and basically have them open up to an app only for it to end up costing $90 to even speak with them . It’s outrageous! As a teen who is scared to ask her parents to go to therapy this app was my best option only for it to be shot down in 5 minutes. No hate to the creators of this app I think it is actually a great idea, just wish the marketing mention having to pay. And yes maybe I was wrong to assume this app would be completely free. I don’t know about anyone else but I was hoping this would be free and confidential, asking a parent for consent to use an app that’s going to benefit the child has nothing to do with the parents. Plus asking for money on a service most kids access to try to get help isn’t a good thing to do because most kids won’t tell their parents and if they do their parents won’t pay, if you want to help children take these things out of your app and it would be a much better one..Version: 9.7

✓ Horrible app reliability paired with bad termsAfter not being able to use the app for more than half of the month because of their errors and glitches- causing appointments to have to be rescheduled- they won’t return or comp the remaining sessions.. this is not a user error, their app was down... so, they ought to make good on almost $300 worth of services paid for. A reasonable person would see the problem and remedy it. The clinician we were paired with was amazing and we cannot even contact her through the app- we just look MIA. I am sure the platform has many excellent clinicians... but at the end of the day, you’re paying a business to connect you with a healthcare provider and the business being the middleman means they will take their cut whether or not they follow through with what you seek from them- which is, services you pay for seeking help *to be met* in a fair deal..Version: 9.8
✓ Very annoyed and disappointedI have never before written a review for anything but I am just so annoyed that I need to. I am a teen who was super excited to finally meet my counselor and finally just start talking to someone professionally. I filled out the whole questionaire, my mom set up the payments on a Tuesday afternoon. I matched with a counselor, whom I read her whole bio and I was super excited to get to start working with because she seemed like a perfect match. A couple of days go by and she has not reached out to me in anyway. My mom, confused emails her and she says that “she is not taking in any new clients and will get us set up with a new counselor asap.” My mom then replies back with a little bit of feedback saying that the program should only set teens up with counselors that are available. She replies that she forgot to turn her availability off and that it is her fault and again would get me setup with someone asap. It has been days, with still nothing changing. My mom has paid for a full week with me having no counselor. I am very disappointed and annoyed..Version: 8.1

✓ Don’t listen to the fake reviews!In writing it all sounds great. Until you run into the plethora of technical issues that cause you to miss appointments or therapist that use this app as a cash cow, churning kids thru every 25-30 minutes. How can anything be discussed or resolved in that time? We tried two therapists (one did 45 minutes but never had avail, the other churned my kiddo out at 20-25 min if she didn’t just cancel minutes beforehand). So, we gave this program over 3 months, which was way too long, but we really hoped it would work out. Obviously it didn’t. Don’t waste valuable time like we did. The good reviews are obviously phony. Not a savings if your paying but not getting any help for your kiddo. Time is too precious….Version: 12.18
✓ Money ScandalI heard that this was good to help with my depression and suicidal thoughts but $420 a month for somebody to tell me that we can’t help over messages. They didn’t take the time to analyze me and how I’m a student where my therapist can only have online meetings at 7:45 am. That’s when I have to get ready and go to school. When I told my therapist they said that they simply couldn’t help over text and I should just get a new therapist next month. ✓ Conceptually great, scheduling awful - I quitWe were pleased with the counselor for the most part, but there were weeks that they weren’t available (I get it, they deserve vacation time) but no credit is given to participants. In the 3 months we used the service, there were about 6 weeks missed. As well, you cannot book future appointments, just one at a time. So sometimes there wouldn’t be available appointments, and since this is teen counseling, as the parent, you can’t book for them. This is what ultimately caused us to quit. I felt like I was throwing away my money as well as it created another thing for me to nag my teen about (one reason we needed therapy to begin with). Fix the scheduling so people can book recurring visits and I suspect you’d keep patients much longer..Version: 9.9
✓ Rude and overpricedI am 15 years old struggling with mental health and my mum paid to get me onto this app, the first session i had messaged them and it took 10 minutes to reply each time and each said the same thing which was why do you feel this way and such and i’m sorry. Next session the connection across was not very well due to me being in england and the therapist being based in the US and she ended up messaging me instead very rudely and not even verbally organising another date with me. The next session i missed because i was anxious of this exact therapist and i could not trust her with what i wanted to say; my mum decided to cancel the subscription which was extremely overpriced and regarding the missed sessions my mum never got any money back and i got kicked out of the account to not even attempt with another therapist. My therapists name was Angel, not sure about her second, but i advise you to not pay so much money for an app which will most likely worsen your mental state..Version: 12.12

The councillor would not do video chats - only an hour of instant messaging - and wasnt really helpful with selfharm/ suicidal thoughts. For example, one of the problems I selected was family problems and poor relationship with parents, but this app needs your parents permission. If I can’t talk to my parents or tell them a single word of what I’m going through, what makes you think I’m going to be able to get their permission for this? Anyways. Betterhelp only cares about them getting profit and money. They don’t actually care about helping you. These same complaints have been made soooo many times but have yet to be fixed. ✓ Not really what it advertisesI thought I’d be able to meet somebody immediately, maybe that was just naive. But anyways it takes about 2 days to be matched with a therapist, which would be okay if I didn’t have to schedule a session a week later. Which means you basically pay 80$ for a week in which you have no communication with your therapist at all. Then i assume the sessions are once a week from there, which makes their “message your therapist any time 24/7” advertising a little misleading. You still get matched with a licensed therapist, though, and honestly 80 dollars a session is still cheaper than most therapists. I’ll write another review after meeting with the therapist but it also says the session lasts 30-45 minutes? So maybe 80 dollars is a little expensive for that much time (most in office therapist sessions are around 150 for an hour), we’ll see how it goes..Version: 12.18

✓ Cannot understand the positive reviews *EDIT*I simply cannot comprehend the positive reviews for this app. I paid $400 every four weeks for more than two months for one single half hour appointment. The counselor was either on vacation, had extremely limited hours or would arbitrarily cancel appointments, which are only a half an hour. I contacted TeenCounseling three times to discuss my frustrations and no one even bothered to respond. I would not have resorted to online therapy if not for the pandemic but this app has guaranteed that I’ll never try it again. Please save your money and find a service that demonstrates care and concern for their clients. What a tremendous waste. * DO NOT be fooled by Teen Counseling’s responses to poor reviews. They will completely ignore any inquiries, pleas or other correspondence. I contacted them four times in two months and never received a single reply. They sure were quick to respond to my negative review though. As if by leaving the same exact email address that I’ve used four times before would Garner any kind of response. I did try again and as you could likely predict they didn’t respond. Again. I had high hopes for this service as my son heads to college across the country but they’re clearly only concerned with your subscription fees - definitely not concerned with your children’s well being..Version: 9.9
