✓ Gameplay sadly lackingThis game looks and sounds gorgeous. The gameplay is only a bit more sophisticated than something I played on a ZX81 back in the day. But maybe that’s part of its charm. It is undemanding and satisfying as you manage your people, who refreshingly aren’t trolls or kids, just cardboard cutouts. Maybe I’m missing something, but it seems unfinished. You gather gems and bits of meteorite but then do nothing with them. You build ships that you can’t see and shields you don’t use. What’s going on?.Version: 1.0.2

✓ Good, but too vague after discoveryA pretty version of A Dark Room that falls down on discovered item description. When you make a break through sometimes there is an onscreen comment about what it can do (don't miss it because there is no way to see it again) others are just 'You can now make X'. I understand the purpose of not laying it all out, but there also needs to be some way to know if X is better than Y. For instance, is a sickle better than an axe in a fight? Should every guard have the latest weapon or is a weapon mix preferable because some weapons are better against certain enemies? No way to know. There are enough variables like guards being tired or 'brave' or not all running over to fight (bug?) that trial and error isn't that definitive on WHY you succeeded or failed (e.g. guard died)..Version: 1.0.6
✓ Developer, please finish this game!It’s starts beautifully, a fantastically polished game, slowly building up, drawing you in, engaging you and compelling you to play more. I loved it. Until I noticed a few things- the trade routes wanted you to exchange something very valuable (gems) for something not valuable at all, something you could easily create- leather, then food! Strange, clearly a bug; the items were supposed to be reversed, sell food & leather for gems, not the other way around. That was the first signal that the developers were rushing to finish. Then the cave quests became pointless. Finally, after upgrading and releasing the Titan it just ends, a quick easy battle with no story or point ends the game. HUGE ANTICLIMAX. The game needs a chapter 2 and 3, an expansion pack, more villages to run, something anything to justify the price and time commitment. Please developers, take another swing, your so close to creating one of the best games on the App Store it pains me to see it have its legs cut out with a weak ending and no potential ‘next chapter’..Version: 1.0.3
✓ Missed opportunityThe poorly designed UI you have to swallow from the start only gets worse as the game progresses. Several taps are required to do simple stuff, and your resources counters start piling up in the screen, taking almost half the screen by the end of the game. ✓ Awful, clunky interface. No story, dull gameplay.It feels and plays like an unfinished game. I really wanted to like this one, and I guess some people can. If you’re not bored by the repetitive gameplay, frustrated by the controls, or disappointed by the lack of purpose/story, then you might enjoy this game. The visuals are alright, but not particularly unique (see Alto’s Adventure), and the sound is passable. A lot of the enjoyment of this game probably comes from its peaceful feel, but that was squandered for me by everything else. It doesn’t have the engaging writing of A Dark Room or the artistic touches of Kingdom New Lands. Overall, I regret spending money on this game and have lost respect for Pocket Gamer after they gave this game 5 stars. I’m giving 2 instead of 1 because, all in all, I didn’t lose much money over this. If this game was $0.99, or *maybe* even $1.99, I would have given it 4. Got into it and started to enjoy the level of resources it takes to keep the camp running, However, all in all this was completed in just a few hours interspersed with watching tv. ✓ Great first play but after that....Let me start off by saying that this is a beautiful game. The story and graphics fit so well together, and I really enjoy this new type of gameplay. I would give it five stars except for one issue, it’s not replay able, at all. I found myself getting bored through my second play through about 15 mins in!!! There is no way at all to make any two play throughs even remotely different. Otherwise this might be my favorite iOS. ✓ IncompleteI don’t understand why sometimes characters are killed by wild animals, and sometimes not. Also the better equipped the Titan was, the more quickly it was killed. Odd. Also there seem to be few options for giving extra tools to the characters and it feels that this hasn’t been finished. Agree it’s annoying that it cuts out music from other apps even when you d selected silent mode. So a good start, looks nice but needs a lot more work to be worth the price..Version: 1.0.8

✓ Can’t attack when busy.Wolves keep attacking in packs while people sleep. Even if I have guards they get killed then the wolves attack sleeping people who can’t defend themselves. I also get attacked often when the main character is busy mining for example. You can’t cancel that action to fight so while your character is beating beaten to death he just mines then walks to deliver one single iron, then dies. Second, we need to be able to upgrade the main harasser some. Why can’t he get the same equipment you’d give a worker?.Version: 1.0.1

✓ Worst ending to a game EVERThe game itself is okay but quickly becomes repetitive and boring. I kept playing with the assumption that all this grinding is progressing towards some kind of climax, a final quest or battle before the end, but it never does. There is a fight between the titans but it doesn’t even feel like a final battle. It’s so over-simplified and lacks lustre needed to feel any kind of satisfaction. One moment you’re playing and then you blink and it’s over. The End. There was absolutely no effort whatsoever in making an ending to this game, and it felt like any time spent playing was basically all for nothing. ✓ Calming graphics, weak story, and repetitiveLoved the animation, and the idea of building a town however the story was weak. The game gave hints all throughout the story that made it seem like something epic was about to happen but this is just to hide the fact that there's no story at all. I honestly had a good time playing this game but the ending ruined it for me and I felt like all the grinding I put into this, albeit no more than 3 hours, was for nothing. ✓ No replay-abilityThis game is great. Found myself un able to stop playing. Visual style is amazing. Really easy to pick up and very intuitive controls. Loved it. Downside, if you have played it once, it’s done. The game is the same. There’s no point in hardcore mode - you gain nothing extra in terms of game play, just permanent death. What I would love to see personally? * Each completion gives you upgrades for your character - he becomes redundant extremely quickly. * perhaps sail to a new land with new resources, buildings and monsters. ✓ Beautiful, fun, but way too shortThis is a beautiful game, and fun to play. BUT way too short. I literally finished the game -releasing the titan and then winning the final battle- within a day. This is a shame; it would be great if one could further expand the settlement, perhaps even visit other settlements (rather than merely trading with them), built new buildings (e.g. walls against the creatures), etc.. ✓ That was lazyThe game was fun for quite a while and I had no complaints at all. Except today I got to the end of the game. it sucked, it was probably one of the laziest endings I had even seen. It was actually pretty poorly made and didn’t even have anything to do with the game. It was just a guy in a cloak killing a dragon. ✓ Beautiful, engaging, Pointless.Lovely graphics, simple design that keeps you hooked. The game goes nowhere though and gives no satisfaction or end point. You die, and you restart. It’s endless and therefore a huge time waster as you don’t get any closure. I managed to completely lose half an hour at one point where I thought only a minute had passed. ✓ Fun gameThe reason why it doesn’t get the full five stars, is it is a little limited. However the crafting loop and the need to protect your settlement at night from attack is really satisfying. Also the art design and music is also wonderfully evocative. It is at times a little simple and I wish your main character could do more. Also there is no tutorial so learning how to use some of the later items like the ancient texts takes awhile. Also it is fairer than Fallout Shelter. That was great/similar and more complex than this game but the problem was the constant attacks and the Insta kill death claws, there’s nothing like that in this game. However, once you awaken the Titan...that’s it. I’m sure I made the same mistake that everybody else did first time and woke him before I’d upgraded him. But putting aside the fact that you need to upgrade him once he’s up and fighting the game ends. It’s a really fun 10 to 12 hours but I can’t see the replay value..Version: 1.0.6
✓ Fun, but cost doesn't portray the game fully.I feel this game is pretty enjoyable. You can progress steadily making the right choices, but at a certain point it's just getting more recources and not dying. You're not discovering anything new. And it's pretty early on in my opinion. I have not completed the entire game, but from what I've seen so far I believe that it shouldn't cost as much as it does. I hope there will be many updates to come. My favorite part of this game is the atmosphere and finding out what villager should do what and even it all out to create a steady flow of recourses with minimal casualties as well. Speaking of casualties, I believe there shouldn't be such a strong flow of monsters. Your village can't grow in population because your villagers keep dying by constant monsters that get larger in number and strength. You also lose the equipment that your guards have upon death, which then you have to use MORE resources AND give up certain jobs for villagers that'd be helpful and then just send them to their deaths instead. The dungeon was the same thing over and over, and lacked a bit of store I felt the game needed. I hope there will be an update that will add more and help the interface a bit. ✓ Saves every morning?So I previously wrote a review about the autosave feature of this game. According to the developers, it saves every morning. So you mean to tell me I have to wait until the morning for my progress to be saved? Even after I purchased the game for a premium experience? Wow. ✓ Almost worth itThe game had amazing visuals and the controls worked perfectly on iOS. It was fun to build onto the camp and upgrade your guys. Some character jobs are almost worthless and the amount of items is lacking. The game gets repetitive very quickly. On top of all of that, as soon as you start to get into the game it’s over. ✓ Ripoff of Dark RoomThis game is beautiful and I was really excited to try it but it is just a poor copy of the (free) browser game Dark Room. The game play is smooth but it there is no strategy or creativity involved, you just wait and press the buttons that appear, in the order they appear. They introduce a story at the beginning but it’s inconsequential to the gameplay and you quickly forget it until the game ends suddenly and you realize the story set the main goal of the game. But this Awakening that you are supposed to fight at the end never bothered your little village so you could have just as easily not revived the titan, except there is nothing else to do. ✓ Way too shortDescription and price gave me the impression that this is a proper strategy game where you build your own settlement and expand with some role-play elements maybe. I was expecting a game that would keep me busy for days and days, maybe one I‘d even play repeatedly. It looks beautiful. Graphics and Sound are very relaxing, it‘s definitely beautiful. But within an hour or so you realise that you‘ve reached the end of the ladder. You can‘t grow, you can‘t improve, you can‘t build anymore. The only things left are gathering resources (most of them can‘t be collected by the player) and waiting for some quests which are basically repetitions and nothing exciting. All in all, the price is not in relation to the game length. Tbh, I would see it more as a free advertisement game and not as a full £3.99 game. There are much better games in the App Store for that price. There are also several bugs (quests) or redundant parts (meteor shards) in the game which disrupts the experience. ✓ NoThis game takes a long time to save up material. It SHOULD reward the player after saving up. What happens is you save up for armor and weapons and a big monster comes and kills about 10 of your guards. You do NOT get the armor or weapons back from your fallen guards. This makes progressing so hard because after your guards die you, if you make it through the night then you will for sure die the next night. I play this game for about 6 hours, it has great music and art but the fighting mechanics need a lot of work. This is NOT worth paying for....Version: 1.0.5

✓ Interesting Village life, not so interesting “dungeons” and “boss”As stated in the review title, this game is fun I initially while your in the village. The balance between protective forces and working forces can be a challenge. But quickly this game loses its excitement once you expand the town. You then realize you can scout for dungeons and the go explore with you entourage. This experience is disappointing. ✓ Ok game that feels like it is missing somethingI just finished the game with maybe 2-3 hours of playtime (or 36 days in game). It was interesting at first with the same feeling of “A Dark Room” but begins the fall flat at some point. I never really felt like there was anything to explore except the cave and even that was basically have enough warriors with you to kill everything and it’s all one button linear fights. It lacks the adventure and exploring part of a dark room while making the resource management part of the game a chore. Since each worker can be equipped with gear to make them better (nice touch) it becomes tedious to make sure the right workers are in the right jobs and they are properly equipped. When your character needs to do a job or build something but it’s on the other side of your village, it basically will take him half or a whole day to walk across the village to get the task done. The end game is equally disappointing and takes maybe 2 seconds to complete with a one button fight again that requires no skill or strategy. The story becomes almost pointless and you have no investment in your character, the “titan” or any resentment toward the evil God. In summary this game should be .99c or $2 but right now it’s too expensive. The developer needs more time on this game to further flesh out a compelling story with investment in the characters and more endgame content. It’s somehow calming with just enough death and challenge to keep you a little on edge so it doesn’t become boring. The gameplay escalates nicely, adding more things to do and craft as you start to get comfortable but the UI doesn’t grow with the gameplay. The buttons start overwhelming the screen very quickly making it difficult to actually see what’s going on and do what you want to do. The combat is average but is simple and goes with the vibe so I’m not mad at it. The greatest shortfall however is that just as you start to get a rhythm going the game just ends. There’s a stupidly easy boss fight and then you’re just done. It feels like the game wasn’t finished. You end abruptly without any sense of accomplishment or closure.
