The Talos Principle for Negative User Reviews

Not a tablet gameIt’s probably way easier to play with a mouse. So difficult with touchscreen I’m giving up before the first section is complete. A waste of $7.Version: 1.3

Promising, but needs workThe concept, port, and graphics are all top notch and hopefully we’ll see a lot more more from this team. Unfortunately the current iPad interface is a little sketchy and can definitely do with a little work. The game will jump unexpectedly or have you character jump and in some cases this will be fatal and very frustrating..Version: 1.3

Version 1.4 controls worseThis game is awesome, but the controls (still) need some work. I'm not a fan of the changes to the Virtual Gamepad that we're made in Version 1.4 - liked it better before. 1. Virtual Analog Stick - I like that it's stuck in one place. This makes more sense. It would make even more sense if you allowed the player to configure the location. 2. Jump button - it's better that it's out of the way, but not great that it's all the way at the top of the screen. It would also be nice if the player could reposition this button. 3. Tap control vs Crosshair/contextual actions. I do not like the method of tapping on the circles to interact with items. I liked it better seeing options based on the context of what the crosshairs are on. Please give us the option of switching back to crosshairs. The current method makes it really hard to drop an item if there are other actions you can perform on the screen. 4. Menu button hanging off side of screen. Prior to this update, the menu button was neatly hidden away. Now it's sticking out all the time. This breaks the immersive feeling of the game..Version: 1.4

Couldn’t get the hang of the controls.I spent most of my time bouncing of obstacles and trying to orientate the character to walk in a line not be looking at either the sky or the ground and stop where I wanted it to stop. I also found the puzzles were nearly identical up until level 10 when I gave up and deleted the app. It might be better on PC..Version: 1.4

Bad controls and boring playBeautiful graphics with tiresome play. In a nutshell: wander around beautiful scenery using cumbersome controls, find a stun gun, use gun to strategically inactivate mines/force fields/death rays to collect a sigil, repeat. After collecting a set of sigils, do a fit-the-sigils-together puzzle. Maybe somewhere down the line the game play changes, but I see that I have at least 15 sigils to collect as of now and I really don’t want to do this same, unenjoyable gameplay that long. The game really needs to implement controls like Xon to make navigation more natural, but even that wouldn’t save me from the one-dimensional gameplay. Sorry I spent the money..Version: 1.4

Just a boring gameThis isn’t a puzzle solving game like The Da Vinci Code or others. It is kind of a first person shooter with a very slow pace and weak puzzles which consists of shoot this first and that second then move here... Save your money if you are looking for a puzzle solver with beautiful graphics. This is just bad..Version: 1.4

So disappointedWhat a great, challenging game. Until you get to certain levels, that no matter how fast I try to move using the iPad, it’s just never quick enough, extremely frustrating!!! Have deleted the game because of it, as I know I won’t be able to move forward without getting through those levels 😠.Version: 1.4

Great game crashesNever spent money on games before. Thought I’d try this one. Like it, real mind bender but in the 4 days, I’ve had it it started to crash. Not pleasant hoping these updates work.Version: 1.2

ICloud supportExcellent port, but a couple of improvements: - Add iCloud support so we can continue progress when reinstalling or switching between different devices. - Rework the virtual joystick UI to make it less clunky. Make it smaller so that it doesn’t block a whole lot of the screen, or give us an invisible joystick option. - Add the missing DLCs as IAPs..Version: 1.4

Misrepresented - action game not puzzles. What a disappointing game! All the ‘puzzles’ are the same, using a piece to lock or unlock gates and killing machines. They are all easy except that but you have to dodge things and manipulate your position to ‘solve’ the puzzles. This is an action/adventure game where you spend more time dodging enemies than you do figuring out puzzles! Not a ‘puzzle’ game then! Also, the controls do not allow for fine control so you spend more time dead then you do solving puzzles. And, moving between worlds takes ages because you have to wait for the portal room to load then another wait when you move to a new world which, you guessed it, is the same as the last! How about the portal room is simplified so it loads quicker and how about some kind of map so you don’t waste so much time finding the actual puzzles, which aren’t even puzzles? They say explore the worlds, but there is nothing to see apart from the ‘puzzles’. Misrepresented and I would like a refund!.Version: 1.4

Have to pay twice?I have purchase the game on iPad and cant install it on my iPhone, gotta pay again to install!?!? And doesn't seem to sync your progression between iPad and iPhone....Version: 1.2

BrokenGames either crashes, or freezes on black screen..Version: 1.0

It wood not let me download it😞It doesn't work on iPad air2 help me☹️ Please.Version: 1.4

One GripeThis is an incredible game, and if you enjoy puzzles, buy it immediately. If you are also a completionist, like me, you may be left wanting. I have played through nearly the entire game, and I have encountered two levels that are so difficult I have almost given up trying. Whole lot of Jamming and Egyptian arcade are extremely difficult on IOS. This game was originally made for mouse and keyboard, which makes sense and would make these levels very doable. However on mobile, the quick movements and turnarounds make for a nearly impossible scenario with the controls scheme available. I would hope the developers would come back and implement a patch, or some sort of workaround, for these and any other levels that require such quick timing and movements to pass..Version: 1.4

Don’t waste your moneyThere is no clear backstory or reason to the game and you just end up wondering around completing similar levels. Definitely not worth paying any money. Would be good for a free game but not good for such and expensive game..Version: 1.4

SucksWorst game ever it should be free why would anyone spend any money on this game.Version: 1.0

Great game, but not on IPadAs others have said, the biggest problem with this game is the frustration with IPad controls. It’s easily a 5-star game on a console — the closest I’ve seen to Portal (Talos’ obvious inspiration), which is a big compliment. But on a touchscreen it’s impossible to control movements and speed with precision. Talos also drained the battery like no other app I’ve used. (That might be unavoidable, given the resources it takes to run game.) It would have helped if there was a save function so that progress on a puzzle wasn’t lost every time I was blown up by a roving mine. That would have also come in handy when the game needed to be put aside in the middle of a puzzle. More than a short break and you find yourself back at the start of the current puzzle. I finished the game angry, with no desire for a replay. If you decide to buy Talos for IPad, either invest in a controller or be prepared for the frustration..Version: 1.4

Awkward controls, pixelated graphicsExpected a bit more for the $8.Version: 1.2

Not a relaxing puzzleThis game says it is a “puzzle”, however there is too much running and dodging to be a relaxing puzzle. Too much time is spent being shot and going back to the start. The graphics are beautiful tho’..Version: 1.4

Crashes!Fun game so far and would have given 5 stars but it keeps crashing. Please fix!.Version: 1.1

Would like to play to see what go on :)Bought this yesterday but for whatever reason the installation process stops when the circle bar indicator is about 3/4. Then a message says try downloading at a later time. Hopefully this will be able to install on my iPad soon :).Version: 1.2

Good game but no optimization for the new iPad Pro 11”Please update the app to full screen support for the new device Also include iCloud sync to share save data through multiple devices.Version: 1.4

Good game black screenI know the game is good, however after the initial start the screen went black and I had to restart the game, it was then fine until after about 10 mins and the screen went black again, I then had to restart again. Please fix I am using am iPad Air.Version: 1.0

Problems on iPad and No SupportThis is a beautifully rendered game, and I mostly enjoyed playing it. There are several “puzzles” that are quite difficult to complete using the iPad touchscreen. With one exception, trying these puzzles over and over and over finally allowed me to find just the right sequence of touches to succeed. Unfortunately, there is one puzzle (“Whoosh”) that defies all of my attempts. Sadly, it is not possible to complete the game without completing this puzzle. I wrote to the developers twice to request technical assistance. Specifically, has the game been tested using a touchscreen? The developers did not respond to my request. The price for the game might not be high, but I did pay for it. Failure to respond to a customer inquiry is not acceptable, and this earns the game a poor review..Version: 1.4

Visually stunning and intellectually challengingI’ve been watching this game on Steam for sometime and considering purchasing. As it released to iOS this week at a very reasonable price, I dove in. Graphics and sound are delightfully immersive. Some visual elements are recycled frequently, but overall the game looks great. The puzzles seem to well set as difficulty goes. Challenging without being interminably frustrating. The story, revealed in pieces through computer terminals scattered through the levels, is intriguing and keeps me wanting more. The touch controls tend to be a bit sensitive, but I suspect with some tweaking, that could be cured. My only real gripe is that there is no way to enter the QR codes from the ‘Sigils of Elohim’ companion game. These seem to be for the Steam version only. A bit silly as both games game are now playable on iOS. That needs to be rectified..Version: 1.2

Cool puzzles but heavy on batteryThe game and puzzles are interesting and challenging so far and the backstory is intriguing. Battery drain is an issue..Version: 1.2

Battery! It’s big and beautiful but it’s brutal on battery life. An AppleTV version would be a helpful countermeasure..Version: 1.3

UselessHaving purchased for my iPad Air, I find it just displays a black screen and no manner of resetting or reloading makes any difference. How do I get my money back...?....Version: 1.1

Doesn’t workScreen goes blank after a minute or so then nothing..Version: 1.1

Not a puzzle game! How this game ever got high ratings is beyond me. There are no ‘real’ puzzles to solve at all, just the same boring concept of blocking lasers from killing you which isn’t exciting at all and not user friendly on a touch screen. I played and played but it never got more exciting. Awful game and I wish I’d never bought it. What a waste of money. Where’s the money back guarantee for satisfaction on such games??.Version: 1.4

Boring and repetitiveI bought this having been through the four Room games and hoped for something similar. Don't get it if you are the same. I personally found it really boring and gave up on it very early. Just didn't like the premis of trying to avoid robots that kill you by figuring out how to sneak past them. That's about it for this game..Version: 1.4

Meh controls make it too much workThese controls may work on a console or keyboard, but I can’t see new players flocking to this game.Version: 1.4

For kill or be killed gamers, not relaxing puzzle gamersI stupidly bought this without investigating further. The graphics are nice, but I thought this would be a relaxing yet intriguing puzzle game a la Myst, The Room, Legacy, etc. however, you have to move quickly before something kills you and I’m not a fan of those type of games especially when there is no instruction on how to use the “jammers” or weapons. I have tried pressing on the mind to stop it I have tried pressing on the camera to stop the mine, but I always get blown up. Too stressful and frustrating. There’s no way to turn off that element. I imagine this is easier on a gaming laptop, Xbox or PS4. Too difficult on a mobile device. A huge huge waste of five bucks..Version: 1.4

The controlsThe controls are really weird maybe next update you could fix it like have a move button..Version: 1.4

Does not work properly on iPad Air.UI controls are off the screen so menus etc cannot be accessed. I’ve requested a refund..Version: 1.4

The game cannot be completed on iPadI challenge the developers to retrieve the stars in level C5. The iPad controls simply do not work properly. I watched multiple tutorials and the instructions cannot be followed because iPad lacks many of the PC controls. Moving and jumping is extremely clumsy. I am 99% finished but unable to complete the game with these ridiculous controls. My Bluetooth K830 keyboard isn’t even recognised by the game as a workaround. Disastrous..Version: 1.4

Touch screen defeated meExperience has taught me that shooters are no good on a touch screen but I've always enjoyed puzzle games on my iPad Air 2. This one defeated me though. I got as far as Woosh! In the B level and figured it out OK, but when it came time to execute two double taps to finish, the touch screen wouldn't react quickly enough for me. After many frustrating attempts, I gave up. Knowing that I won't be able to complete the game with out the sigal from this area, I deleted it from my pad. I found other areas frustrating in the same way, whenever there were complex actions required to evade black orbs, I had a difficult time getting the iPad to react quick enough. Perhaps younger, quicker fingers would enjoy this game more..Version: 1.4

Ho HumThis is the best looking game on the iPad. Downside is that the gameplay is very repetitive. I was hoping for something like Myst/The Room. It is not. The graphics are pretty much wasted and there is a bug which causes the camera to suddenly point at a random angle. Wish I hadn't bothered really..Version: 1.3

NaJust an old school run about through walled corridors to find stuff. Graphics aren’t so bad but considering the power of the average phone today, they appear flat and somewhat endless in their banality, anything you can actually interact with is heavily highlighted which does save time not bothering to check every nook out. The play gets repetitive after 20 minutes finding the same thing to do the same thing with, leaving the only skill left : to be able to tap the screen just at the right moment to avoid being zapped, a somewhat fruitless and dull task after a while..Version: 1.4

NulNul sans intérêt aucun plaisir a jouer☹️☹️☹️.Version: 1.2

What happened?!When I saw the trailer the music, the landscape the voice that they put in the video just looked perfectly and when I actually bought it the sound was all gone. Can anybody tell me what was happening? I am really upset about the game since I gave too many high expectations.ಠ_ಠ.Version: 1.4

Needs better restore point managementGreat game. Very frustrating though, to be half way through a puzzle, only to be restored to the beginning when you make a mistake. Would really benefit by the user being able to manually set restore points as they progress..Version: 1.3

Ok game but confusing and not worth the cost.Game is well designed and looks fantastic but the game itself is confusing. I purchased this bc of how well it’s designed and the App Store’s “rave” pre-release review. I’ve played several times since then and it doesn’t get much better. Not surprisingly, I’m thinking the App Store’s critics were paid a bit more for saying this game was amazing. I’ve played multiple times, progressed through several levels, and it never gets any better or becomes appealing to play. All this game has to offer is its look. When you start out the game with almost no instruction on gameplay and all you know that you’re a robot who doesn’t know anything, it doesn’t draw you in or get you hooked up front. Don’t waste your time or money unless they drop the price to $0.99..Version: 1.4

Computer station doesn’t have scrolling back :(I wanted to give this a 5* because this game is really awesome and I’m very invested in the story but the problem is when my character is talking to the computer station I can’t scroll up to see everything it’s written, I’m only getting the bottom half and if it’s the end of the conversation it basically blocks out everything because the main screen shows up and the rest is lost. It’s such a shame because the arguments and ideas proposed by the computer station are very deep and existential. I hate that I’m missing part of it. Devs if you’re reading this by chance, my device is an iPhone 6. Hopefully this is fixed, if so I will amend my review to reflect the improvements. :).Version: 1.4

BoringInanely and Boringly the Same puzzles, which repeat, and repeat... and repeat. Find shapes by stopping traps that will restart the sub-level you are on. Was fine for the first time, but got so boring, I have stopped playing. Really cross that I wasted my money on this one. 😟😧.Version: 1.4

Meh.Controls are irritating, puzzles boring. Seriously regret paying for this..Version: 1.3

No iphone8 plus resolutionIt did not even take 1 second to realize this game uses a scaled resolution on iphone 8 plus. It looks blurry compared to other games After playing jade empire, gta:sa, monster hunter, bully scholarship edition then coming to this.. talos principle looks super blurry in comparison. All the other games appear as crisp because they use the real iphones resolution. This should too I understand/appreciate the optimizations to the visuals and can stomach the lower res textures.. but come on. Native screen resolution is paramount. Talos principle uses a resolution of 1472x828 Iphone 8 plus screen is 2200x1200 or something The result is a scaled image. Blurry. And considering iphone8 plus is more powerful than ps4/xb1 and scores 40% higher than a 7th gen intel i5 on geekbench. there is no excuse for this. There should be advanced video options. Mobile devices are not weak. Its not developers job to worry about peoples phones overheating. Other games give you a warning if you turn up the graphics really high. My phone can handle it its my phone not yours Please i want talos principle to be CRISP AND HD!.Version: 1.4

Controls are absolutely impossible!!!I have played Talos Principle for years on Steam, I love it and know it extremely well. I can understand that a developer might have to slightly alter the controls for iPad play compatibility, but these controls are just completely over the top awful! The absolute worst attempt at iPad controls in a 3D POV environment.! No other game on the planet controls like this. If you tap to go across the length of the screen, it’s a continuous action that you just watch happen, and you will easily step out in front of enemies that you obviously can’t see a quarter mile away where you tapped. Two fingertips for “detailed control”, which is basically like pushing a skateboard with one of your two fingers while steering around stuff. It’s as impossible as it sounds. I thought $4.99 was a great deal! I might give it one more shot in a few hours, but I seriously doubt I’ll ever play it again...so $4.99 is pretty expensive for 15 minutes of (angry raging) gameplay. Just buy it...and youllllllseeeeee.... Dang them for destroying such a beautiful game...one that should be enjoyed on an excellent iPad display, too. I can’t believe they did this!.Version: 1.4

Game refuses to launch iP 6S+ 9.3.2I bought this game having never heard of it until now. Hearing how great this game was & how much the console versions costed, I bought the iOS version w/out hesitation. However, the game crashes at the splash screen & have not been able to get past that yet. Deleted & reinstalled the latest 1.2 version but still the same problem. Edit: Within days of writing this, the developers have released 1.3 which has fixed my crash issue & now the game appears to work now. Have bumped up my rating due to that fix & the fact that the game runs well on my old 6S+. Thank you!.Version: 1.3

Partial Review[01-01-2019] This is basically the only time I’ve played a game like this, especially one with a mix of strategies and puzzles. The graphics are quite good. The movement, navigation and moving/getting around isn’t too hard neither. So far, so good! I’ve given half of a review, because I am still trying to experience everything it has. I’ve only played for about an hour (or so), and am getting the first pieces of the door/lock puzzle. Because it is a game of concentration and focus, I feel that I have to put 100% of my time into the game (when playing) - so I don’t miss anything. I’m the sort of person who checks each corner, fence or bush, in case I’ve missed something important, before continuing on. Hence the reason why I’m still at the start, and because I’ve been busy - at the time, my hands are free to move around but my eyes aren’t, so I’ll play when I’m not busy or too tired..Version: 1.4

On screen controls disappeared?Been enjoying this for awhile, but went to play it today on in first person mode with the virtual buttons, I noticed the ‘action’ button had disappeared The jump one was there and pad, but half the screen seemed to incorporate buttons for the touch mode... Please fix as this totally changes and ruins the virtual pad option.Version: 1.4

A beautiful game that is frustrating at timesThis game is beautiful to play but also frustrating at times. I’m using the default controller settings (touch and swipe) but the deeper I get into the game the more frustrating the experience, especially when I need to move quickly. Also, i don’t mind figuring stuff out on my own but there is little to no guidance on what to do or where to go next and, if you get stuck you’ll need to look for an iOS walkthrough for support. Lastly, it seems access to menu settings/options is only available at certain points in the game, like after completing a section, but not when you are working on obtaining an item. Maybe I’m missing something but it would be nice to have access to menu/settings/options at any point during game play to adjust sound, tweak controls, etc. Otherwise this is a fun and interesting experience that is enhanced by great visuals and intriguing premise. I installed the recent update and have no issues with graphics or gameplay on my iPhone 7+. I think the lack of guidance is intentional but would also appreciate a bit more in-game help or some next step hints as it sometimes feels like I’m not sure what I should be focusing on or what the current mission is..Version: 1.2

Please make the controls easier! The graphics and gameplay are good and it keeps you progressing through the levels. But, the movement controls are almost impossibly difficult on iOS which ultimately makes this a frustrating rather than enjoyable experience. Also, this is a massive battery-hog and is not suitable for long tube journeys. Have given up for now..Version: 1.4

Can I have my money back pleaseI bought this ten minutes ago . It is not philosophical or. Puzzle game like in the adverts at least not yet. I hate walking around shooting at objects games. Don't want to give a bad review as I only feel misled buying it but it looks like a good game if you like those sort of games. I'm never going to play past the first sixty seconds. I never ask for my money back..Version: 1.3

Black screen update fixed allTried to use it 3 times, screen goes black after a couple of minutes. Not impressed so far. If this gets fixed I’ll review again. Updated: this issue has been fixed as per the developer response, the game now works well, but as mentioned in other reviews there seems to be lots is walking around and not much happening, however, I’m only on the beginning stages of the game so hoping things get more exciting as I move through....Version: 1.3

Looks amazing....but.....I have no objection to spending my hard-earned on solvable puzzles but when they are unfathomable, that’s a different issue..Version: 1.4

Such a pityBeautiful graphics, great movement in the game. But really boring and lacks a story. Although the scenery is beautifully done the repeating action to solve the same puzzle over and over let’s this game down. Not worth the price tag!.Version: 1.4

Boring and awkwardDidn’t get this at all. Boring puzzles involving grabbing a surveying type camera and pointing at items to get past or open door. Controls were strange. 100s of iOS games use similar controls to move... if it ain’t broke don’t fix it..Version: 1.4

The controls are beyond frustratingI really want to give this game 5 stars as the puzzles are interesting and the graphics are great but the controls are so poor that there are several puzzles I know how to solve but have take ages to finish. And if you leave for a break the whole room resets and you have to start from the beginning. Seems like a game that would be better on a pc with a joystick..Version: 1.4

Now ok - op errorOk updated my review from 1 to 3 stars as operator error resulting in no sound. Will no see how it runs and report back..Version: 1.3

Menu not visible on ipadThe top left hand side game menu bar (which I assume has app settings and other critical game information) is not visible or accessible on my iPad. The aspect ratio of the game does not suit modern iPads. If not fixed by the developer, would not recommend this game for owners of modern iPads..Version: 1.4

Bad controlsThis is one of the best looking I have seen in awhile. It was featured in the App Store as a great game. However the controls are awful. The things that you have to preform in order to get to puzzle pieces is tedious and frustrating. I have played similar games with the same touch controls such as Shardlands even those on a much smaller landscape. I get that. But with such an open works feel these type of controls just do not work. It is also the preferred method by this developer to play the game. The touch controls just do not fit this game. I doubt the developer will correct this in the near future since their responses so far have been very unhelpful to the players. I would not recommend this game to anyone. I don’t mind paying for a game and the puzzles in this game a pretty straight forward but again the controls are why to difficult to complete some of them. Sorry but even Monument Valley is better..Version: 1.4

Inferior controls ruin the experienceWhat should be a world-class game is brought down by amateurish controls. The hilarious thing is they try to brag about them in the description (it’s like listening to Trump) where he they are so delusional they try to pass off a flaw as a feature. When multiple gamers tell you your controls are terrible, you might want to listen. I don’t mind getting killed if I make a mistake or don’t get the puzzle, but when you have to tap a guard 3-5 times to get it to work, and get killed in the process, that’s just annoying..Version: 1.4

Looks amazing butBecomes frustratingly repetitive, gameplay is non existent - would make a nice chilled out white noise generator but apart from that I’m regretting having parted with my fiver.Version: 1.2
