Telling Lies for Negative User Reviews

DisappointedI don’t want to detract from the brilliant genre concept or the acting, I really like it and hope there is more that I will happily pay for, but this one was a big irritating disappointment for me. The bottom line is that it wasn’t half as engaging as the first. The absolutely worst thing about the game was that I had to rewind every single video clip for ages. No skip to start. It really killed any suspense or intrigue. The story itself was pretty predictable in one sense and completely unbelievable in another. Of course a guy who does x, y and z is going to end up the way he does. Would anyone ever actually get away with and come to the same conclusions as him? Nah. The ending and epilogues were all terrible. Not that I wanted it to be better, but I really didn’t care. It was pathetic and cold. Might have been better if there was some kind of moral or silver lining, but it was just grim all around..Version: 1.0.4

Waste of money and timeThis game is Terrible , why they keep making games that are too difficult The App Floerence was Better 😢.Version: 1.0.4

DisappointedI really liked Her Story, so I was really excited to play Telling Lies which has been on the top of my “to buy” list for a while now. Unfortunately, I’m finding it more tedious than Her Story. The interface is really confusing and I don’t like how certain clips start playing in parts where the key term you searched is mentioned (for example, the “ok, love you” clip in the very beginning) and when this happens, you have to rewind the entire clip, which is frustratingly slow. There is also conversations between certain people, and you have to piece them together because you can only listen to 1 side of them at a time (if you know what I mean) and figure it out. Some of the clips are awfully long, and have silent moments, which makes me become impatient. And unlike Her Story, you are unable to take notes and write down certain key terms. I’m going to give it another chance later today, but I really hope that there is an update that resolves these issues. In the meantime, I recommend playing Her Story instead..Version: 1.0.4

BoringIt takes ages, and there is no way to no how far through you are the story line. I looked up the spoilers to see if it gets interesting - it does not..Version: 1.0.4

Too much staring at a silent screenI really liked the first game, but this one requires you to sit and stare in silence for long periods of time as the on-screen character “listens” to whomever they’re video chatting with. I don’t have that kind of time to waste and it can be quite boring at times. Another annoyance was the fact that most of the videos did not start at the beginning, so before you could watch them, you have to rewind, which took too much time. It’s a bummer because I can tell a lot of thought and effort went into the game, but it was a waste of $6.99 for me because my “play-time” is limited and I don’t want to spend what little time I do have rewinding videos and staring at a silent screen..Version: 1.0.4

Short game!Big fan of Her and the storytelling platform. Not sure if others experienced the same, but got to the end of the story in under 30 minutes. Wish it was longer..Version: 1.0.4

Worst game ever! All you can do is watch the people! You cant do anything! Its a waste of money :/.Version: 1.0.4

CrashesI like the idea of the game. I see that a lot of work and creativity went into it. One of the things that bugs me is the one sided conversations, I really wish it was possible to open two windows to watch the conversations instead of trying to remember a 3-7 minute convo, finding the related video it goes with and listen and try to remember what the person you’re watching now is responding to and the questions being asked or the answers. It’s a lot of going back and forth. The next HUGE problem, which I will get my money back for being unplayable and broken, is the crashing. After about a couple of minutes the game crashes. Open it back up and you’re stuck in a crash loop that will never resolve itself. Close out the program in the game computer stops the crash but as soon as you play a video you’re back in the crashing loop. Only temporary fix is uninstalling and reinstalling the game but you have to start over and all my notes got deleted. So no kind of local or cloud save. Could be fun, nice change of pace, no saving and horrible bugs that makes the game unplayable. Update: So doing as the developers suggested, I emailed them my problem, my phone version and software version....Still no answer and it’s been a week now. How do you expect people to “enjoy” your “story game” when none of the story makes any sense. I get you have to piece together your own story and what not but what’s the point when IT DOES NOT WORK? Not so much as a automated message from them like most developers. Garbage!!.Version: 1.0.3

Hard to believe......I wasted 6.99 and 20 minutes of my life on this before deleting it..Version: 1.0.4

Telling liesWas loving it but it keeps crashing. For the price please fix.Version: 1.0.2

TediousI love Her Story. I couldn’t enjoy Telling Lies. The vast majority of the game is watching one side of a random two-sided conversation, which means lots of silence. The game starts you in the middle of these random videos, forcing you to manually (and slowly) rewind them if you want the full video. And even after piecing the story together, it just wasn’t exciting like Her Story was. This nonlinear format worked amazingly for Her Story, here I just found it annoying and tedious..Version: 1.0.4

Her Story was greatI loved Her Story, but this game is pain of rewinding videos all the time. It’s so inconvenient and I gave up. Would love to continue playing if the authors do something about rewinding though..Version: 1.0.4

A missed opportunityJust like with Her Story this game has a great concept when it comes to mechanics, and one has to admire the sheer effort and time it must have taken to film over five hours of people talking to a camera. But the story itself really left me underwhelmed. It’s true that I was anticipating something that would use the mechanics to create a more thriller-like atmosphere and in the end it was much more of a drama, but even then I don’t think it was engaging or believable enough a drama to keep me interested enough to spend hours mining for clips if I hadn’t been holding on to the hope that there’d be some kind of twist or clever revelation or eerie moment of suspense or something. I wouldn’t have said anything at all on this were it not for the appalling epilogue, an unintentionally cold and ugly affair that feels like it fell out of another story entirely..Version: 1.0.4

Crashes too oftenI can’t progress any further because it keeps crashing, always in the same places. Disappointing....Version: 1.0.4

No soundCan’t get sound when using ipad speakers. Sounds work on Bluetooth though..Version: 1.0.4

Keep crashing!!!I want to finish this (potentially) awesome game.Version: 1.0.4

Not finishedI haven’t finished the game so I guess these comments are probably ‘half baked’ but I agree with there not being a tutorial of some kind. But in the instructions on how to use and arrange the videos I think I understood what the game is about. To watch vids all the time can get a bit boring so I think there needs to be a bit more (phone calls, visits from people, other pieces of information). Other than that I am finding it engaging and thoughtful..Version: 1.0.2

So unsatisfying...Yeah. So the acting is great (despite the overacting done by Logan Marshall-Green’s eyebrows), and the storyline interesting albeit all over the place. That’s about where any fondness ends. One man, three women, and hours wasted watching (really more time was spent rewinding, which has to be the most irritating aspect of the game) stories which never really collide. The goal of solving a mystery isn’t quite present, unlike ‘Her Story’, and it frankly ruins the game entirely. Very disappointing. And the endings? What utter crap. I almost feel more robbed seeing those endings than I did when there was no ending at all. Ugh. And perhaps I missed something, but I didn’t see any way to jump to the beginning of a video without having to waste time on the slowest rewind feature since VHS. So annoying it made me want to give up several times (if I could have found a decent summary online, I would have quit solely for this reason like thirty minutes in). Meh..Version: 1.0.4

Boring and confusingThis game is not even a game. I love story driven games but this story is absolutely confusing. I finished the game with out given the footage needed to understand what happened..Version: 1.0.3

Not really playableThe game is good, and I had this game on my PC as well. On the mobile version, however, I can’t really rewind the videos very well. It’s possible, but slow and tedious. I’ll attempt it again and maybe come on here and change my review. There might be something I’m missing. If I’m not, then it’s really disappointing, because the game itself is really good. As far as I can see, it’s only a mobile version issue with game mechanics..Version: 1.0.4

UnsatisfyingLet me start off by saying that I was a big fan of Her Story. This one just doesn’t do it for me. It’s great if you like watching a movie out of order while only hearing half the dialogue. You get to spend half of your time fast forwarding through 30 seconds of some dude making reaction eyebrows into the camera. Once we’ve discovered both halves of a conversation, why can’t we play them simultaneously?.Version: 1.0.3

Bad bad badHorrible. If you were selling me a short story I would be like cool some decent acting in here (a bit) and interesting. But as a interactive “game” all you do is see a bunch video and wonder what’s gonna happen then it’s over! I fell asleep I was so bored waiting for something to happen then to wake up and “play” for two more mins to find it’s over, I couldn’t believe it. What a rip!.Version: 1.0.4

Great ideaLoved the concept of this and it kept me engaged for a couple of days until i realised there was actually no point in continuing further once you have a good idea of how the story goes. There is achievements or unlocks. No reward for your hard detective work. Shame because it stops my will to go further now i know the end..Version: 1.0.4

Game keeps crashingInteresting game but can’t get through it as it keeps crashing..Version: 1.0.4

Trying to get through this “game” but I’m bored...I pre ordered the game, mainly because I love mystery games and it seemed promising and an overall interesting concept. I started playing and the game play is pretty vague and you just kind of figure it out. Which isn’t bad, I’ve played games like this before. However, it can get a little boring and tedious. It’s hard to piece together the video calls when you can only hear one side of a conversation at a time. Like, I wish there was a way to see the video calls synced once you find the other half. Also, the forward and rewind process is ridiculously slow! Omg. I search a word and it brings me to the end of 7 mins video call and it take me soooo long to rewind to the beginning. Most importantly though, I have no idea how to “win” this game. Like is there a real objective. There are no like check points or rewards for finding something out. Idk if I’m evening doing it right. It’s kind of irritating. I play for like 20 mins and then I get bored and frustrated and play another time. I wanna complete the game but it’s getting hard to keep my interest. Overall, the concept seemed promising but the execution is not ideal. I want to like this game but I’m having hard time getting myself into it. Usually I’m hooked by this point with games like this. Maybe it’s just me? Hopefully I can complete the game and enjoy the work I put into. But I’m feeling doubtful..Version: 1.0.3

Jewish erasure in a game that focuses on neo-nazis. again.I was having an okay type playing - i'm a big fan of games like her story and simulacra - i kind of noticed something in the game that has become extremely prevalent in the media today. nazis and anti-nazis are only portrayed as hating people darker than them. there is not a single jewish character. nothing about origins of the movement, the lack of mentioning who they targeted; the media is erasing jewish history and this game is just another one of those "the nazis are back guys" stories that once again avoids the targeted group nazis then and the ones today want to eradicate. have we forgotten "jews will not replace us"? that chant from a bunch of white supremacists holding tiki torches? stop trying to erase our names and the torture we still face by these people to capitalize on a movement that hasn't abandoned us, but only because we should just "stay in our lane" as if they don't know the impact and irony of those words. and this is everywhere i go. my brothers don't have white privilege when they don their yarmulkes, hold their tefillin, or wear tzitzit. it should be a known fact that we've already gone through multiple instances where we have been told to "just pretend you're not jewish". that sentiment killed has led to massacres and yet is still peddled today, only with the added "because you're not the main target so stay in your lane" line to sound more socially aware. jews aren't white to nazis. even good ol' modern day skinheads don't see jews as white. they think we're the puppeteers behind anti-racist groups, manipulating minorities into joining our alleged "cause". you could have worked with that. you could have called that out. but you didn't. you made a game that involves someone fighting nazis and forgot to mention who their main target still is. and it hurts..Version: 1.0.4

Their StoryIt’s a great concept, and I loved Her Story l, so I was excited for this follow up. But, to echo a couple of the other reviews, it became quite irritating to constantly have to rewind back to the start of a video when your searched for word only appeared in minute 7 of an 8 minute video and I found it killed any kind of tension that was building..Version: 1.0.4

Awful! The graphics are the only thing that is great about this game. This game is confusing af. They don’t really show you how to play or what you are even doing. The game ended and I still don’t know what the story was about. I am utterly confused and so annoyed that I payed $7 for this. I will try and get a refund, I don’t even care about the money I just want this game removed from my memories. NOT WORTH EVEN $1!!.Version: 1.0.4

Utterly lostNot a clue what to do. Money wasted..Version: 1.0.4

Sound doesn’t workI’ve tried playing this game on my iPhone 8 Plus and iPhone 11 Pro Max. The sound doesn’t work..Version: 1.0.4

No soundTrying to play on iPad and there is no sound.Version: 1.0.4

Not worth the moneyNothing like I thought it was going to be. Thought their was going be clues and at least a tutorial but their wasn’t. I’m very confused about this game..Version: 1.0.2

Rewinding is half the gameI kinda got unmotivated when I noticed the videos are like 5 minutes each, but the most annoying part is the slow rewinding system, Half of the game is just rewinding. It might be an interesting story but I’ll never know I guess, I’ll just go to YouTube, check the ending and move on with my life..Version: 1.0.4
