✓ Great game premiseGreat game bad execution I started this game mid season and joined a faction with limited players already. We are at the biggest disadvantage possible. No way to actually keep from losing. The enemies have all higher level commanders because they started at the beginning of the season. The developers need to figure out how to keep the game fair for newer players who join mid season maybe when a new player joins start them off where they should be at that point in the season with a couple high level commanders some land surrounding them and some buffs to help them build an army. The tutorial needs to be more focused on how to help a player build themselves up to be able to withstand high level enemies. Also one or two factions can’t have all the power there needs to be more balance between factions. Maybe have a limit on the number of people who can join a faction and if a player becomes inactive let someone join the faction who is new. If inactive players can be kicked that should be done as well. It is worth playing but new players should be aware when you start pick a faction with a larger crowd of people that way you have time to learn the game and don’t have to worry about battling anybody until you are ready..Version: 1.0.128639
✓ Game Ruin by Devs greedPlayed the game since the very first day of release, and I’m very sad to say the 2.0 update ruined the entire game. ->Old players are frustrated everything changed after spending many seasons and lots of money m building commanders the way they want…just to have everything change and deeming half what they have built useless. ->New players won’t be able to develop any relevant commanders to use to fight against people have been playing for awhile. Old players stopped spending money, new players won’t spend money, servers aren’t even close to being filled anymore —> game is already dying within 2 months of 2.0 update and it’s just going to get worse. Update: asked for a refund since everything I paid for is useless now… got declined saying that “nothing has changed” and “your purchase is still just as effective now as it was in previous 1.0”. ✓ Headed in the right directionThis game is headed in the right direction, in the current state it is I still enjoy it a decent amount as the fighting, expanding, and characters make it interesting enough. However there are a few things that need to be changed to really get this game going. 1) the screen needs to have less buttons. It took me a while to figure out where everything is because there are so many different buttons to press, this needs some streamlining in the sense of certain things being combined based on commonalities, or certain aspects just need to be gotten rid of. 2) the fighting. I want to watch the battle ‘live’, like while it is happening but I can only watch the replay in the inbox so I already know what’s about to happen so it takes away from the suspense and interest. Not only this but the characters that are fighting need to be refined; the animations done make it feel too rigid and unnatural. The fighting is definitely something that will make or break for many players so future updates really need to make it more interesting and really feel like a battle otherwise this game will most likely nose dive. Then they brought out a forced new version 2.0, a complete overhaul of the game making it considerably more favourable to high spending players. Not only that, the new features and gameplay are far inferior to the old version so those that spent money on a game they loved is now tied up in a completely different game, no refund option for account spending is available beyond the 30 days in the App Store. ✓ Decent game but very flawedI’ve played since release, and this is my honest opinion after 2 weeks. As the title says, this game is decent. It’s a definite time eater and is not pay to win in the least. But the game itself is very flawed. Let’s start with the tutorial, it doesn’t explain very well and you basiclaly have to learn for yourself, which is good except then you don’t know half the stuff in the game. The mid game, very fun, very time consuming if you want to and it will reward your time but this is all just PVE. The later stages… well here is the big problem. There is literally in game bots, and not like cheaters, bots that are supposed to be there. Well why is this an issue? Well when 200 bots come to attack you at 3 am it is different story than 50 players who also need to actively have a life, as opposed to bots who will never go offline and are literally programmed by the game Wth is that all about? ✓ Hordes of marauding PvP players destroy and fun and investment in this gameAs the title say this game has a horrible mechanic where a horde or PvP trolls can sweep into your territory and destroy everything that you have built. I was really enjoying the game until this point (for reference I was ring level 65 when this happened) but there is literally nothing to do but watch as all your lands are taken away by more powerful enemies and I see no way of getting them back - or even if I did, then how to stop it happening again and again. I have played similar games before where PvP players can steal some of your resources, but this goes *way* beyond that. It completely disrespects the time (and money) that you have invested in the game. I think the game needs a complete rework on this front, and honestly I would boot the trolls onto a server of their own, or better yet delete their accounts entirely. My commanders also run out of stamina quickly and when your build queue is maxed out there’s not really anything to do. ✓ Bad decisions lead to a floundering game experience.For 2 years I loved this game. It was fun and dynamic. All of the diplomacy that this game engendered made for one of the most in depth games ever created. I had so much fun with it, that I spent freely and had typically one of the top accounts on most servers that I played. I’m addition, there was a definite spot for free to play players as pathers/tilers. Honestly, the tiling is what wins battles. Then 2.0 came along. Gameplay has become very stale. They somehow managed to make battles more confusing and yet more bland. There is no more respeccing on the fly to try to counter an opponent army. You have your big group of 4 characters that create your top army now…and that’s it. No more true counters are to be found. No free to play player can hit a whale with a counter build and win anymore. When attacking, you are either going to hit a pather army or a hitter army. You get no excitement from hitting a pather and hitting a hitter most of the time both armies are going to take some decent losses. It’s also very obvious that they did all of this to try to drive more money into their pockets, but it has made the game feel very stale. ✓ PotentialThe game at its core is fun and the commanders look great! I do find myself running out of things to do once my stamina depletes and building ques are set. ✓ Daylight robberyPlayed this game since day 1 and loved every moment the friends you make both team and enemies brought friends from all over the world. This game was always a money trap for those who could afford it or those who wanted to be up there with the best but no matter what you spend was you felt that you could be a valuable member to your team . This game was about refining your gear to a specific commander and bringing the best out of them and that is exactly what the majority of the community did wether rich or F2P. But with the release of 2.0 the builds people spent substantial amounts of money to perfect have been YEET XD in the bin with no respect for the investment involved . You can no longer run your favourite commanders individually and have intense 1V1 battles with someone you have to gear and arm 4 commanders just to do anything leading to much shorter battles. The feeling of being robbed and the sadness as you watch teams who have played as one for 2 years falling apart with the new update leaves a bitter taste to the past 2 years. ✓ Used to be goodI’ve been playing this game since October of 2021 and it was amazing. Fun game mechanics and social aspect to make friends and have fair fights with enemy factions. However as I’ve watched this game evolve it has turned into a f2p players worst nightmare. The game is heavily influenced on pay to win. Other players will spend $100s-$1000s getting the best gear and best commanders possible to where it is impossible for even intermediate spenders to keep up with. The developers have also increased the difficulty for taking tiles making it even harder to keep up with everyone else unless you have spent a decent amount. It would be cool if they could have free to play servers and spending servers like RuneScape or something to balance out the players that go hard on spending. Even if a ranking system was added to make the battles more fair, that would be cool too. In its current state the game is completely unbalanced and the fights aren’t fun anymore unless you’re decked out in the best gear money can buy. ✓ Good game with one major issueI was really enjoying the game, but now twice on my server factions have taken very strategic keeps - osgiliath and Moria, by doing minimal damage and just being the faction that got the last hit in to capture the keep. So not only do you have a keep stolen from you after doing all the work, you are then open to counter attack having lost a lot of troops trying to take the keep. ✓ 2.0 update killed the gameTLDR version: 2.0 update was forced upon everyone and most of the community has left. The update simplifies the game and benefits P2W players significantly. Having played the game for almost 2 years now, I have made the hard decision to stop playing the game too. Long version: The original game was great, with great game mechanics, lots to strategise on, and plenty for players to figure out. I have seen many communities of players come together to try figure out the best ways to use each commander, best ways to start every season and leaders to coordinate war efforts in the game. There is no other game like this, and I can easily say many loved this game, F2P or P2P. I have spent almost 2 years playing this game, joining different player communities and making friends from all around the world. I’d consider myself a Tuna at most, with other players I know that have spent more than 50x what I spent. Money that you spent equates to unlocking more commanders, getting more equipment and weapons, and essentially become “stronger”. These commanders and items follow you after each season. What’s unlocked stays unlocked. Before they rolled out the 2.0 update, the developers requested for volunteers to try it out and gather feedback. I volunteered too, and found the game to be significantly different, almost impossible to play if you haven’t spent any in the game. You now require 4 commanders in one “formation” to be able to fight anything “strong”. How F2P players unlock enough commanders to fight in more than one formation is beyond me. You also need to gather a lot of “respect” items to further enable your commander by gifting them more skill points and unlock more skills. It used to be possible for F2P players to have a strong, low tier commander but now this is not possible. You need to gather very rare respect items to level them up. The chances of these rare respect items are less than 1%. This essentially means you’ll reach a point where your commanders won’t get any stronger unless you start spending or you have some insane luck / play for years to get the items you need. Start this game at your own risk. The 2.0 game mechanics are poor, the player community is decreasing rapidly, and you’ll soon realise how important it is to spend to win..Version: 1.0.424210

I have spent hundreds on this game just to reach season 3 and fight against people who have played twice the seasons I have. ✓ V2.0 Not what i signed up forI want to caveat this, with if you are a new player, v2.0 should be easy to pick up, and could be fun. From the perspective of playing since the start, I have spent money and time on my commanders and gear, to the point where they were ok, no whale level, but I could make a difference. V2.0 drops. Not only did it remove/change my progress, and the gear I had earned, my commanders have become weaker. I’m assuming this is what they would call balancing the game, that’s fine, but please don’t remove my two years of progress while doing it. Also, don’t take away items I had earned, through spending real money. That’s not cool. For anyone saying “it’s loot boxes, you gamble” that’s not quite the case. ✓ Fun at first, Unplayable for free to play.Loved the strategy, updated this review. It became pay to win after just 2 seasons because the developers seem to care more about money than balance. If you don’t dump tons of money you will never win a fight because all you’re doing is pulling for equipment for your commanders. Makes the game unplayable for any casual or individual who doesn’t have spending money lying around. I was also baited by false advertising through an Instagram ad so that was sketchy originally in season 1 (the ad made it look like it was a dungeon crawler, not a world wide war). I’ve played for over a year and the spending gap is the only factor that matters and even then there are commanders (ON GOOD SIDE ONLY) with EVERY POSSIBLE skill available to them from madness to damage reduction to evasion to stun to defense buffs, healing, and defense reduction. ✓ Devs… why?I myself am a video game dev. I have helped in many projects and have created both large and small titles. And this dev teem committed the capital sin. They got to greedy. I played this game from close to the start, and after hitting a point in my life where work became to busy, I took a break. After about a year, I decided to hop back in. I was mostly a free to play player and spent many hours making friends, enemies, and grinding my commanders (Grima/Lurtz for the win). As soon as I redownloaded and looked at the game, the first thing I noticed was that I had only about 25% of my equipment and my commanders were all way lower of a rank than I previously left them. The devs decided in the 2.0 update that they could monetize/capitalize on players being put to a lower rank so they would have to spend money In order to get back to where they were. Take this as a warning all new players, if they did it once they’ll do it again. I’d stay away from this game, and this is coming from a long long time lord of the rings fan and game developer. ✓ Devs just trashed the gameThe version 2 completely re-writes the entire game making sure that any knowledge you had is now obsolete. Commander profile pics now look like they were drawn by a drunken anime fan, pvp fighting is now a power battle to collect multiple commanders (which you will need to randomly get through loot chests which are micro purchased through gems). This is a lame Clash of Clans type game with mediocre at best game play and a “Lord of the Rings” title slapped on. I’m sure some people like this type of game. But all it requires is a big wallet. “Your level 2 towers were destroyed. Repair and build level 3 towers.” “Your level 5 archers were killed. Restock and recruit/train level 6 archers.” There is no ingenuity, no new features, no creativity. It’s a shame that LOTR has allowed its name to be used on a game like this. Try Call of Duty: Mobile - the game is celebrating its 2nd anniversary and has the most robust gameplay I’ve ever seen - or Knights of the Old Republic - a port of one of the best RPG games ever. However, over time the developers have shown an extreme bias towards the “good” factions and have been progressively making “balance” updates that always favour the good factions. To make this issue worse, more players now choose a good aligned faction than evil, so the side being dragged down by the developers is also undermanned and outnumbered. The game was fun, but is now just a boring slog and they won’t even help evil players by allowing 3 season’s worth of gaining evil items be converted to good side. Avoid unless you want to play as a good faction. Adding that season 4 is even worse and now if you have not sunk major amounts of money into the game, it is now impossible to get any feeling of accomplishment or fun. ✓ Game review from player who played from the start.This game started off really fun in season 1 and was full of opportunities for a great LOTR fan base culture. Slowly it developed into a p2w game and left the original f2p who were hopeful for a game where everyone had an equal opportunity to be a top player. The World Chat in the game is so full of inappropriate talk, trolling, name calling, and threats that it detracts from the game and creates a toxic environment. When the game first came out I was hopeful for a game deep in lore and activities but it is all repetitive and the lore is not present like it should be. The Christmas event was a kick in the side to its players with a poor reward system. The riddles in the Yule event were absolute trash which was a missed opportunity because it could have been a chance for players to test their knowledge of Tolkien’s lore instead it was all about components to the game. The removal of mechanics which gave f2p an opportunity to slowly grind to start matching p2w so that the developers could force players to pay into the game was a greedy move and created an inequitable environment. Which means everything you’ve done for seasons building up commanders and equipment is gone and useless. I am not even a long term player yet and this really discouraged me from playing. I can’t imagine what people feel who have built up their stuff for YEARs and then lose it all in a single update. Also executing the update on a server mid season?!?! Whose idea was that? ✓ Cash grabbing nightmareDevelopers only listen to a minority of “whales” I.e. the people who spend money on this game upwards of almost tens of thousands of dollars. Evil commanders are absolutely terrible and only have 1-3 overpowered builds so you are forced to spend money in order to compete. Otherwise you will get steamrolled by pretty much every good side commanders who have much stronger skills. Developers have removed mechanics from season 1 which allowed you to swap items you didn’t want for ones that you did (equipment fragments). The Mathom (gambling chests), now feature mathom tokens which take up your epic slots and you can get stacks of only 1 mathom voucher (you need 150 to trade for an equipment you want). This is a nasty scam. The developers introduced two types of servers: (1) role play (2) non role play. Instead of balancing the good and evil commanders. This means majority of evil factions on role play servers are dead because developers favor good side. On non role play servers there is now a clear meta which encourages pending to be competitive. Overall, a truly sad state of affairs. The game developers should be ashamed, and I really hope they come to their senses. Money is the root of all evil, and they have stuffed their eyes and ears with dollar bills. Be better, thus game has so much potential..Version: 1.0.261570

There’s nothing you can do to compete against the players who pay to upgrade their gear to high levels. Typically with games that have in game purchases, free to play players can still compete by investing a lot of time into the game and being rewarded that way. ✓ This game is a scam. Be wary.Before you download this game, be aware that this game is a p2w that neither values the players time nor the money they spend in a game. Most of the time you will not get anything from the packs you buy with ridiculously low drop rates and even if you do get a certain piece of equipment, odds are that it will not have the exclusive stats that are needed. The people who have the builds with the right stats will steamroll everyone who does not have the exact counter. The devs of this game do not reward gameplay and time so if you do not spend any money, or spend little money, you will just be reduced to fodder and entertainment for the whales. Even if you do spend money, you will not get the items they sell you. It is an outright scam. There is no balance in the game and if you work so hard and put so much time and resources into the game to build a leader with a specific troop composition, there is no guarantee that it will be relevant the next season as the devs keep soft nerfing the viable builds and even implementing unannounced hard nerfs such as they did with the witch king. ✓ Mixed feelingsI’ve played the game from season 1 as a free to play playerish ( I buy the season pass). The game is great and excellent for a LOTR fan. The first two seasons of the game were fun and game has a good community. However, season three is terrible and unplayable as there are to many ‘whales’. As a free to play player it’s impossible to get tiles as payed players sweep them up within the first couple days and battles are near impossible. Obviously, game experiences are different amongst servers but I am in one where a faction has to many whales that even four faction can’t beat them on a organised attack. Makes the game feel very unbalanced and likely won’t carry on playing in season 4. ✓ DisappointingHad cautiously high hopes for this game (especially after seeing the click bait adverts) - cautious was definitely the right word. Played for less than an hour and deleted after this. At the start of the game you’re given a choice of 9/10 factions, with very limited information on the perks/limitations of each one - further online reading would suggest a lot of them are not appropriate for beginners to the game as you can quickly be overwhelmed. I tried to play with Rohan as on old school fan of the franchise. The game mechanics are really confusing and clunky to play with - it’s really hard to understand what the actual objective of the game is here. There are just far too many things happening on the screen, and despite the introduction levels, it’s just very difficult to follow. ✓ Good, but dependant on othersThis game is very good, fun to play interesting characters, music, art and lore, but one problem is how absolutely unbalanced the game is at times, I joined the angmar faction, and on my server all of us in that faction have been getting destroyed by the others, simply because we do not have enough players, thus all of our territory is taken by other factions which just makes it even harder to take more land in our turn, we have been and will stay at a disadvantage for the entire season. This game is reliant on vast amounts of time as well, although it isn’t terrible if you spend them in various sections per day, and coordination with time is important too, attacking keeps and other poi’s all happen in the span of 5 mins. ✓ Pay to win game for bulliesDon’t expect balanced seasons after season 2. Pay to win whales get groups together to smash servers when registration numbers per factions are capped starting s3. There’s a lot of servers being filled with bots who register accounts in opposing factions so their faction can dominate against non-active accounts. A lot of these dominating groups have played 5 or 6 seasons only to go back to s3 or 4 to play against less developed players. And often they come back to bully servers because it was done to them in previous seasons. The level of misogyny and horrific world chat is stupendous - no matter which server. Moderation is awful. Don’t invest in this game, the player base will diminish very quickly (and we’re already seeing a tone of attrition). ✓ It’s called Middle Earth, Not Little EarthThe map feels tiny with multiple kingdoms almost on top of each other. Middle Earth is huge and vast with many different locations. There should be enough room for you to expand without being on top of other enemy players. Other strategy games allow you to grow your land as far as you need without being to close to enemy players. I recommend moving the other players away and giving the players room to expand, whilst allowing them to go attack other kingdoms and defend. ✓ Faction Balance bug makes unplayableThe game itself is highly enjoyable… except, you can find yourself in an no-win situation right out of the blocks. If you happened to join a low population faction, then … you are stuck and your goose is cooked. No soup for you. You cannot change factions and you can be outnumbered more than 10 to 1. It gets worse as players find they were unlucky and they quit the server, then your 100 to 1000 goes to 50 to 1000. That means you will spend your game time trying to survive while the dominant factions have their way. This imbalance can crush your experience within days. No matter how good you are, you won’t be able to keep up. Within 3 weeks of a new season (server refresh), we are entering end-game status on our server. It is valiant but brutal. One enemy player is strong enough to wipe out all 50. Your only remedy is to create an alt and join another server and faction that hopefully has a larger group of players, but you won’t know until you get there. Seems poorly considered, no? LOTR R2W need to fix this balancing issue by limiting players per faction. Until then, the game is… unplayable… even the dominant factions are bored (per general chat). Anyway, try your luck. This game consists of seasoned players who have months or years into the game ganging up on new players. For example, I started my first game ever and get matched up with seasoned players that literally take over the entire server by asking their friends to play with them but on other factions so that they can easily betray and attack their allies when advantageous. It’s ridiculous that good factions can ally with bad factions in season 1 to enable this behavior. It’s almost as if the devs are encouraging this type of action. Furthermore, the world chat is littered with sexual innuendo, misogyny, and references to drug use alienating younger or female newcomers. PVP boils down to who can “bump” players more effectively instead of actually engaging in battles which leads to wasted stamina turning the game into a snarl instead of an active, fun, engaging experience. ✓ My review and why The Game is Dying.I started as an evil player because I wanted to have fun and enjoy the experience of building up and immediately found limited opportunities to not spend money on this game if I wanted to “Keep Up”. ✓ Cracking gameSo I’ve been playing this game for over a year now. And I love it. First off the graphics are amazing. Secondly the community is great and very supportive. Then simply it’s LOTR which makes it so much more enjoyable. A lot has changed since when I first started which shows the devs actually care a little about the game and only a little of that change has been negative. I started a bit unsure of what to make but after a while I began to really warm to the long strategic elements of it. I joined a really great supportive team that I’ve now played 5 seasons with(seasons are roughly a month or so long). However very rarely you find a perfect game and this game does have its flaws. First of all it’s largely p2w(pay to win) dominated in the PvP side of it. But any low spend or f2p(free to play) players LIKE ME have found lots of great ways to enjoy the game but maybe not in the PvP part. Then there’s the looming 2.0 which is soon to be released. This major update is highly controversial because it is erasing some long term base features of the game which everyone has grown to play with. The game is due to become this 2.0 soon so my opinion of it may change depending on how it goes… So there’s my summary of the game. Overall I really enjoyed it even though I’m f2p. My personal highlight is the community from which I’ve met some really great people who are as passionate about it as I am and is very supportive and helpful. I love the LoTR franchise and have for awhile so a game that encompassed my favorite characters and themes really spoke to me. The update that they put out completely changed that. It took away all the progress I had made and turned the game into something almost unplayable. ✓ Was A SuperfanI have played the game from almost the start. It has been super fun and loved the game & lore. As a Free to play it took forever to unlock my first T3 commander and as a result my best commanders respect lvl wise are T1. The 2.0 update feels like a slap in the face and even more so for my paying friends. My Grima took forever to get to R13 along with R10’s for Khaldoon & Ugthak. The update dropped them & gave some respect items, not the amount that raised them to their previous levels. At least I didn’t have it as hard as my friend who had Grima at R22 and it dropped to 10. So far on day one it feels like they thought long and hard on how to screw over the players and did that. The game has always been about speed, tile taking, and the fights. Now having to use more than one commander to take on even a lvl 30 mob feels wrong (commander is lvl 35 and was easily fighting them before update). I was really hoping version 2 would hone the masterful game we had. And give features & improvements to the almost perfect system…. But alas not. So at least at the time of writing I am giving it a go, but I probably will sadly hang up my Elven bow & sheath my Uruk sword and morn the game that was and could have been. Graphics, gameplay, general customization/skill building, team building mechanics and general support more often than not has also been pretty good. Not all game modes (campaigns) were great. We would have liked to see a bit more variety. And feedback was often slow to be implemented. But we did see meaningful improvements over these 2 years and the net net is more good than harm. HOWEVER; they just announced they’re basically deleting the original game and replacing it with something entirely different. Then when he stopped talking in chat, they started bragging that they might have gotten him to actually do it and they were glad. The devs have failed to find any balance whatsoever between the competing side so if you’re evil you wish you’d never installed the game and if you’re good you’re bored out of your mind. The issues were cause in part by a game breaking glitch known as the red book glitch that the devs failed to react to at all and also by pure incompetence from the devs. To make matters worse the devs have been completely unresponsive while the vast majority of their player base have been crying out for some balancing fixes and many have even requested full refunds on the game. Combine these issues with the fact that the devs seem determined to do a money grab over a sustainable game, examples include: removing the ability to dismantle unwanted gear to buy desired gear, introduced mathom vouchers in the chests which definitely do replace proper items and equate to a tiny fraction of the value of the items they have replaced; stealth patches that completely change the game without warning; constantly releasing non-canon heros to dilute the pool as opposed to rebalancing existing heros… the list could go on but I think you get the point. ✓ Fun to try but to toxic to playThe game is fun at first, there’s this immersion with the world that is very nostalgic. Building up is fun and grouping together with others can be a delight. However, the game serves (I have been on five now) quickly become over run with people making multiple accounts. Due to there being low populations in every server to get members and power in the factions people cheat. There is no set rule for making multiple accounts and the games teams do nothing about it. Eventually by last 5 chapters of season 1 the entire server is usually a few players with one account vs a single faction with 2-5 alt accounts. Add in the fact that people are just down right nasty in these games, most of the time are the cheaters. Overall the games fun to try but not worth to keep playing. Every server becomes a toxic wasteland of alt accounts. Even with a new season and “sever merger” it’s all the same. ✓ Changes Making Game P2WThis game has always had it’s downsides. Lack of faction a balancing, unfair rates for loot boxes, realms being over populated by one faction. At it’s core when the game first came out it was fun, sort of F2P friendly but rewarding for those who willing to pay. If you choose to play on the good side (most players do), the best you can do is be a boring farmer and support other players who spend hundreds per week. To balance things out, the game favours heavily the dark side, giving them better commanders and troops. By doing so, those who are not spending big money are left in the dust. I contacted support of both Apple and the developer to get a refund of purchases made. Apple stated that because my purchases were in-game they couldn’t help me. The developers support sent a copy and paste statement that basically said ‘ thank you for your support and suggestions’ and ‘please be patient ‘. ✓ Unbalanced with no fix in sightI’ve played since season 1, and after the absolute disaster of s4, I think I’m done. Aside from the troop and primarily commander strength imbalance that leans toward good, the numerical balance of players for the good factions is so bad that out of 40+ servers, evil won 2. Every time new commanders get released, good gets some decent to great commander, and evil gets a mediocre to unplayable one. To this date the initial roster is better than any new ones, and they’ve been nerfed so many times because a specific build by a whale did well. Meanwhile good can stomp with average players and that’s somehow fair. Good gets overbuffed, evil gets overnerfed. Any attempts at helping evil were so half hearted or far too late that it didn’t do anything. One of those measures, the AI assistance, actually helped good players more. The imbalance was already there in s1, and it’s just gotten worse over time. I like the game. It can be fun at times, the LotR theme is really cool and fun, and they clearly know their lore. But it feels like I’m just punished for playing evil, and I’m just finding it hard to justify continuing to spend money and time on a game I’m just not enjoying anymore. Everything is based around unlocking and rank up commanders. Once it’s unlocked you then have to rank them up to be competitive. And if that’s not enough there is equipment that has random stats and rarities that you also have to get lucky to get out of chests. ✓ Ups and DownsThis game can be very enjoyable with its city and army building with hints of strategy coming into play with how you build armies for battles. The game also had a very friendly community (depending on the individuals) that can make playing enjoyable as you learn to play and expand your tiles. A problem in this game is pay to win, although of course you don’t need to do this the players who have put a lot of money into the game have a clear advantage with the Tier 3 commanders having a lot of abilities that can’t be beaten by the other tier armies. Another problem is the more you play the less enjoyable it becomes. In season 1 the game was very open and taking tiles was not difficult as you had time to build up to get the stronger power tiles. Coming into season 3 the amount of players in one faction can make the game almost unplayable, unless you have the strongest commanders at high rank coming into the season you are unable to progress as all the stronger tiles are taken within the first week making the game progression far too slow. ✓ Super fun but…I preregistered for this game and absolutely loved it at the beginning. But have enjoyed it less and less as it goes on. The game is played in “seasons” which is good because of you loose one season you can still make friends and try again in the next season. However seasons are all but decided on day 1. The factions that start strong attract more players and then run away with it. The gap between the strongest faction on a server and the second strongest is usually huge. They need to make some kind of cap to keep factions closers in size to keep it competitive and fun. It’s all about teamwork and I love that aspect of this game. Having to work together to take big objectives and wage a war on multiple fronts is awesome. Again though a big BUT you’re not really incentivized to keep playing once it’s obvious who is going to win if your not on the strongest faction before Team switching closes. All you can do is annoy the winning faction and maybe slow them down but winning from behind is next to impossible with the current set up. Graphics are great user interface is good the devs seem to listen to the community and make good changes… Over all I really like the game which is why it’s more disappointing that I doubt I’ll keep playing after season 2 ends..Version: 1.0.140014
✓ So much promise, now squandered for moneyI have played a lot of p2w games. Some are good, some are bad and this started off season 1 as the best p2w game I had ever played. Whales are limited in the amount of moves their commander can make, the resources they can acquire and they can not speed up troop training. F2p players could actually have an impact and there was a gear dismantling system in place so that, one day, f2p players could get the gear they wanted, even if the affixes were bad. The devs removed dismantling and now if you don’t spend a ton of money it’s very unlikely you get anything you need for your favorite commander. It is pure lottery and p2w now. The balance in the game has become skewed and there are blatant issues that the devs ignore. Witch King is broken and for the most part the rest of evil is terrible. On the good side, it’s a bunch of Gandalf the Grey/White spam and Theoden spam. Which is fine if thats the meta but it’s been like this for 2+ seasons with no real changes. It has become boring, stale and caters only to the p2w. The game had so much promise at the start because f2p and low spenders could still be relevant and have impact. ✓ Pay to winThis game is a huge waste of time. Sure it was cool in the beginning(I preordered it before it came out) but several servers later(maybe 7) I have to say you can not win unless you are willing to pay a lot of money. There is a little strategy involved but once you are out of stamina the pay to win-whales move in and wipe you out completely. I am a die-hard LOTR fan but I am done with this game. The world chat is toxic and racist and the developers never respond to reports or remove offensive chats and names. I have even seen some glitches that have still not been resolved where players can move across river into another territory with out needing a friendly tile on the other side. Player make fake accounts to fill up other factions and keep their enemies small in number. Again developers do not remove inactive players. I had high expectations for this game and was fun in the beginning but there is no new content for each new season it just repeats season 1 all over again. ✓ Developers are con artistsAfter a year of playing, and much money spent, I was muted for a week from all chats. The report button had been abused by my enemies in order to get me a ban. 3 days of pursuing a dreadful customer services team who changed the story each time I wrote to them. I made a simple request for clarification of what was said and what rules were breached which they were unable to provide. Do not contribute financially to a game where the developers can remove your privileges on a whim, and do not feel they need to provide you with any evidence for why they have acted. To add insult to injury the time and date of the offense which they kept quoting back to me, fell within the time of the ban where I was completely unable to communicate. A company that seems hell bent on alienating their own player base. The end is high for rise to war, and their own policies are marching them to the cliff edge. ✓ Good game but……Okay so I like the strategy in the game but when I first started first started playing I was a good guy fraction but they were brutal and toxic when ever I tried to help they say “your to weak get stronger your a spy”. Yeah that’s what they say then in the second season I went to Mordor and they were nicer less toxic but the top warband leaders never listen to my ideas WHEN GONDOR TRAPPED US I SAID “let’s go the Rohin they seam pretty weak and another group already attacking them so let’s help them”. But they said “no we don’t want to start another war”. And I said again “GONDOR HAS US TRAPPED AND THEY CAN DO A FULL OUT INVASION ON US”. And they said “okay still let’s not”. At this point I was facepalming myself. Then I left that group and joined a different one they were smarter but it was not really fun that much because they told me what to do or else I get pretty well kicked from the group and I could not war plan only they could at some times so I just deleted the game it was fun but players are mean and strict in that game and when ever you report someone nothing happens to them. Maybe you should have a staff member or two in each faction and they can check up on each warband to make sure players were being nice to each other and letting them join in and help attack and make it fair to all. ✓ Once upon a timeOnce upon a time I enjoyed this game. It was like the perfect mixture of walking through the real adventures middle earth had to offer and fun strategy that was mixed with camaraderie with warband/fellowship members. 2.0 has ruined it for me and many others. In addition a refund can be provided but it is only partial and you will end up in negative germ territory which means that you cannot effectively play anymore ( can’t even reskill a commander). ✓ This game is pay to winA lot of people boost their level pass you fast by paying, I fought one guy that got same level troops as me and some how he managed to get tiers 4 troops beast and his commander level didn’t even reach the required to capture the area to get beast tiers 4.
