✓ Dark patternMy impression from an otherwise great app was spoiled when it tricked me into buying a subscription I didn’t need. I was greeted with a wall of text where the only call to action was ‘pay’. I then read the FAQ section which states that basic functionality is available for free. Next time I saw the into screen, it took me 4 times (and $8) to spot the tiny print saying “continue with limited functionality”. There is a name for it: a dark, manipulative UX pattern.
