Flip Sampler for Negative User Reviews

Flip Sampler - Sound pack purchase has goneI was really looking forward to purchasing the additional sound packs for this. I purchased one and it has now disappeared from my purchases. I’m reluctant to purchase something again that I already bought and this has made me very unsure of using the app now 😢.Version: 1.2.5

Seems amazing but not autosavingMade a track in my first hour. Really intuitive and fun, was able to process daggy beat boxing into amazing sounds with the built-in effects. But! It crashed, which isn’t the end of the world, but no auto-save, lost project. Can re-load saved samples but all the processing has to be done again :( Doesn’t seem to save as automatically as other iPad DAWS/sequencers..Version: 1.0.2

Could be great if it weren’t so buggyI want to love this app. Typically it’s a great tool for improvising & sketching out melodies & percussion ideas. But there’s unfortunately too much inconsistency & bugs with sample recording. Half the time it works great - I hit the record button & hum a note or make some sort of drum sound with my mouth & flip automatically find the starting point. But more often it seems to just be latching onto a bit of noise (according to the waveform) or sometimes the waveform looks correct, but it just won’t play back my recording at all. Not sure if this is just a problem for me or if it’s a common occurrence. Other than that bug it’s usually a great & fun app..Version: 1.4.2

I want to love it, but idk..The app looks very appealing, and you can make some amazing stuff on it, but the UX was off for me. I was often frustrated by the way the app works, lots of misclicks, functions not working, or even the undo crashing the app frequently. I think overall the app is great, but it definitely needs more attention on the touch functions, and make it more intuitive. I think the app could be really good with less bugs, and right now it feels like the app was made for mouse and keyboard. I hope to see the app improve to give it a try later in the future!.Version: 1.2.0

Decent but some other apps offer some essential features that this doesn’t seem toHad great fun playing with this and is very feature rich, that said, For my personal workflow it was lacking a few things and I probably won’t reach for it again until they add some bits in... it would be great to be able to audition samples imported from my iPad files prior to loading them into the pads, there was A LOT of adding then replacing until I found the right sample. Time stretching and sample chop features are also an essential for me. I like adding in and working with tops loops for some added groove... I couldn’t work out a way to work with full loops (that would sync), only one shots... and finally, a longer loop region would be good but I can work with what they currently have as it makes you get a bit creative. LOVE the automation section and the way the whole thing works with touchscreen functionality. Fingers crossed there are some updates coming..Version: 1.0.7

SeriouslyWho is writing these good reviews? A bunch of Andrew Huang fans? This thing looks like a toy but a toy that doesn’t work. Once I found a samples in my folder of thousands that would work, they’re wav files, but most don’t even show up, then I would put marks on the piano roll and it plays about 1/10 of them. All this “I was making music in minutes” stuff in the other reviews, they’re ringers right? Cmon admit it. I was making music with Drambo faster than this thing. No exaggeration. Merry Xmas guys, guess my gift to you is $7.99.Version: 1.0.4

Why is my export slower?Lovely app, look forward to learning and experimenting more. But when I export the whole thing is in a different key?.Version: 1.0.2

Love it but keeps crashingLove the app. Really fun to use but it keeps crashing..Version: 1.0.2

Just one thing…All I need is looping samples, so I can make my looping waveform oscillators. I got this app right when it came out, and I check on it every month or so. “Looping samples a thing yet? No? Ok…” I figured it had to be on the to-do list, but then again, maybe not. I can’t be the only one who wants this. We already have every other component we need for basic subtractive synthesis. This one feature would change everything….Version: 1.1.4

Great music tool but there are many irritating bugs. One of my main issues with the app is the constant crashing and lack of working metronome. I have been wanting to fix this issue for a while but it seems to be a bug. Flip Sampler also has issues when importing files, sometimes it fails to import or it imports with no audio. It becomes very frustrating when trying to make music on this app. I love this program to create music but it is starting to make me choose another app..Version: 1.1.4

Filing bugPersonally I love this app. It helps me express the trashy sounds before am actual production session. I've also take some really cool samples at work through the record sample button. Unfortunately after a few weeks of enjoying the Operation pocket DAW, the app just bugged out and deleted files and sounds I had uploaded into the library. I think I might have messed something up during a file sort but after looking into it & moving the files back, it still doesnt bring back my sounds and even the stock beats and stock sound kits. Overall this app has so much potential but it's too bugy. It would compare to an alpha mode DAW. A better comparison is to EA and Dice launches of every Battlefield title. I'm hoping that eventuall the app will be good..Version: 1.2.2

Fun but a bit buggyFor reference, i’m on the 4th gen ipad air - before i get into the issues, i want to say the app is a super fun sketch pad, and i love the transient detection in the sampler. perfect for jamming and coming up with ideas i could use for sample packs or tunes. haven’t tried any built in sounds but they’re probably cool. i’m sure these problems i’m gonna mention are all fixable, and i am looking forward to using this app into the future. manually adjusting the start/end points is a bit finicky and it has trouble telling when i want to move one or both, or when i want to zoom or scroll the start and end region boundaries as one. the pitch detection is pretty much always wrong, but glad to see the attempt! it doesn’t really hinder anyone playing by ear, i suppose. the ADSR envelope doesn’t seem to work perfectly, i always get little clicks at the end of a sample or sample end brace that doesn’t naturally fade to silence, even if i have the sustain at -Inf dB and no release. the reverb seems to have input latency that is most apparent with short transient hits and high send values..Version: 1.0.6

Dynamic island problemJust picked up this app and find it doesn’t play well with the dynamic island. Half the controls are obscured which ever way you orientate the phone. Also, with the close of the patch store, does this mean you’ve given up on the app?.Version: 1.2.7

ALMOST there... needs moreI’ve been following this app for some time. I bought without hesitation knowing the level of community support was there. I’ve managed to make a few tracks. Initially it was fun to play around and make some beats. But further along some key frustration started to set it. Sore spots: No MIDI - not a terrible on its own, but the onscreen keyboard is un-usable for me. Would have preferred a root noted grid pad (ie Maschine MK3 or endlesss pads). The Piano roll editor is too glitchy for me. Lacks crispness and precision. Way difficult to copy / paste in precise notes. UNDO is not reliable - undoes certain actions, but not all. Seems glitchy Hard to copy tracks across different instances in the song mode. I’m certain once these issues are fixed this app’s fun potential will be unlocked. LOOKING FORWARD to the updates and hope to give a more positive review here. Thanks.Version: 1.0.5

A Great app, but…This is a great, portable sampler as intended by Andrew. However, the MIDI learn and clock sync functions don’t work to well with my Elektron Model:Cycles. It’s unfortunate, it would have been a nice way to expand the sound palette of my Model:Cycles (via the USB MIDI and the audio over USB capability of the Cycles). I am also experiencing some audio drop out. If it was not for these issues, this would be a killer app. Other things that could be improved is the possibility of moving/swapping the samples location on the 3x3 grid. More control over the randomization of the samples (like randomizing kicks samples only, as for instance implemented in the high end Polyend Play) would also be an awesome addition to Flip. Last but not least, velocity modulation of other parameters than just the volume would also be a welcome addition to make beat making and from finger drumming more expressive (like the decay of the hihat or the tuning of toms and other percussions… as for instance possible in the Model:Cycles). That’s it for my holiday wish list ! Keep up the great work Andrew and the Flip team and thank you for this wonderful portable sampler, despite some of the issues mentioned in this review that I have personally experienced thus far. Many thanks, John.Version: 1.2.6

Hold function pleaseThis app is really well thought out - but lacking different ways to playback a sample - great to add loop function but a hold function is essential IMO. Please update! Thanks.Version: 1.4

Good. Great idea, but way too overloaded. It will be easier to operate on an tablet than on the phone. I have lost two projects on this app. The drag and drop has to be very precise. Quantize has to be done in small quantities I made the mistake to quantize the whole beat, it went chaotic; it is okay when apply on small amount of notes only. After a chaotic quantize which I tried undo, it only undo one note at a time; in the middle of rescuing my project, all notes were erased and no redo/undo function can help. There are bugs in this app, if any operation doesn’t make sense, restart the app. Even closing the app is tricky. There are lots of features for fine tuning, but if the creation part cannot lay down a beat, I cannot use those features. The basic functions for composing are not carefully secured, while they tried to offer a lot of advance features. My advise is for users to create multiple disposable short/quick projects, get use to this app first, before RELYING on it to create..Version: 1.2.6

Not Accessible With VoiceoverI’m a blind musician and use voiceover (Apple’s built in screenreader) on my iPhone/iPad. On downloading this app I’m presented with the usual “Flip would like to access the microphone”, which I allowed, only to then be presented with a blank screen, which even when using Screen Recognition (a fairly new feature that I believe uses OCR to try recognise text) it still isn’t usable. Very disappointing, really hope this is fixed soon as it genuinely sounds like a great app..Version: 1.2.7

Unusable with Magic Keyboard on iPad ProApp will crash instantly any key is hit on the attached keboard. This means that anything that requires interaction with the keyboard (such as naming any project or sample), or an accidental touch of a key will crash the app. Currently unusable until this is fixed..Version: 1.2.0

Great Potential just not quite there yet.Ow wow... I spent hours working on a project. Duplicated for a backup. Renamed....and now both projects have been replaced with a different project. So I have 3 of the same track from days ago..... There are a lot of bugs that need working on. For example, duplicating multiple notes on the piano roll can introduce all sorts of glitches like randomly elongating all of the notes. The worst part...I cannot undo this! There is no way to auto backup either, so be prepared to lose a whole lot of work. I love the minimalist design, but I often wish I could just see the name of a menu and would love to see multiple midi channels in relation to one another instead of constantly switching back and forth. As for the purchaseable sample packs, tell us how many samples I am downloading before purchase. I expected more due to how many came loaded. I’m fine with the amount for the price, but you’ll want to manage expectations vs reality. I do love the app, and love that I can make decent music from bed, so I’ll be eagerly awaiting any updates!.Version: 1.0.3

Keeps crashing.I don’t know why but if I try to load anything other than the samples that come with the app, it crashes. I’ve never seen such an unstable sampler before..Version: 1.4

CrashesLove the App Andrew but it keeps crashing when I’m modulating samples, otherwise, great job on the UI/UX..Version: 1.0.7

Great but glitchySuper fun to play with and slowly learning the interface Is there a known bug where the app will just stop playing the audio for the track or samples you are working on? It says its playing, but its not. Occasionally plays one or two of the samples. Does this one on phone and iPad.I even click out of the song im working on and sometimes other sounds will work, but sometimes not. Really frustrating when you're getting into a groove and the app Stops playing back your creations..Version: 1.0.7

Glitches in automation screenI bought this app for the sample Start and new Looping automation, but it’s not that easy to control to use - seems very hit and miss, and I’m getting glitches when drawing automation using the pen tool - masses of peaks generated drawn instead of a smooth line, and the ‘Q’ feature doesn’t seem to have any additional perimeters for more precise editing. Regretting this purchase so far..Version: 1.4

No thanksAwful interface and crashes. Prototype indeed..Version: 1.0.6

Crash-y on iPhoneI've had this app for years. Opened it up today and got right to playing. It's crashed 3 times in 40 minutes. Also, on my iPhone 14 I now have the "dynamic island" feature blocking 1/4 of the menu items. Can see that one can disable that iOS feature so I'm hoping the developers can figure out how to adjust the app so menus aren't blocked..Version: 1.2.7

Shuts downI don’t know why but the app always shuts down. I love the app a lot don’t get me wrong, I love every part of it and it’s quite cheap for the power house it is. But it’s frustrating I want to play with it, dig deeper and all but it keeps shutting down. :(.Version: 1.0.2

It has potentialI apologize for past negative reviews, but I’ve had to uninstall/reinstall this multiple times. There are too many inconsistencies around how this works: sometimes it loads the metronome even when I don’t choose it. Other times it allows me to import sounds but it won’t allow me to delete those. Other times, it won’t record a sample into an empty pad.... Overall, it can be versatile for sequencing sample sounds..Version: 1.0.6

New Update is BuggyIPad Pro 2022 update seems to be buggy as hell. App crashes anytime i record a sample or if i choose to use the new loop envelope. Any ideas?.Version: 1.4.1

Rereviewing to point out some bugsEvery time I open the app it gives me a pop up window with links to the tutorial video and the store, neither of which I need. Can it, stop doing that? Also, I tried to delete the default tracks because they were unwanted clutter but they come back every time I reopen the app, so maybe fix that too. Lastly, not a bug but on my iPhone 8 (small by today's standards, I know) it's really hard to adjust the vertical axis in the piano edit page. And it doesn't zoom far enough in to be accurate because these notes are so skinny and their hitboxes are unforgiving. I never have a problem with this on GarageBand so I know it's not me. Other than those three things, great experiences so far with this app!.Version: 1.0.2

Not optimized for 14 ProThe notch just cuts right into the controls.Version: 1.2.7

Brilliant tool with many bugsThe app is designed great with a few bugs to iron out. Mainly, it repeatedly crashes on me with file saving and pad mapping + has also damaged my phone speaker. I was listening on low to a kick I made with my voice when all of a sudden loud, heavy static feedback. I’m on a iPhone 6S Plus. Have received no response from developers regarding my concerns. This app really deserves a 5 star if the developers were more responsive and empathetic..Version: 1.0.6
