SongOwl Music Player for Positive User Reviews

A worthy replacement to stock music appAnother fantastic app from a developer I very much respect. SongOwl is the best way I've found to navigate my song library and the design is easy on the eyes and easy to use. I find myself switching between SongOwl and Cs Music constantly. The developer takes into consideration user feedback and feature requests and is very quick to answer troubleshooting and general question emails. Thanks Mike, keep up the good work!.Version: 1.0.1

The one feature I wantPlease please please include in the next update the ability to pick up in the middle of a song even if you don’t use the app for several hours at a time. It is super frustrating to have to go back and relaunch and hunt to where I was listening to before, especially during longer songs in live albums. This also goes for the Cs Music app..Version: 1.0.2

Great Music Player and BrowserWorks seamlessly with the iPhone and allows a great variation of looks etc. Allows Swiping left right for music tracks - so great in the car or when you have gloves on. Developer is very responsive and emails back when I have had questions. Fully recommended..Version: 1.0.1

Nice, easy to use interfaceReally like the app so far! Please add support for compilation albums. Currently, songs on compilation albums are not visible in album artist view, when the field is blank..Version: 1.0.1

Sort by random albumFinally!!! After years of waiting, SongOwl reintroduces a way to sort my library and playlists by random albums. As with another reviewer, I’ve been using Cs Music for some time and really like it. Random album has me sold as my new primary music app. Thanks, Mike!.Version: 1.0.1

Thanks SongOwl!I love SongOwl! Making stats-based playlists is super easy. I especially appreciate integrating playback controls..Version: 1.1.3

Lyrics supportHi mike, Great music app, really love it. Just wondering whether lyrics will be supported in the future?.Version: 1.1.3

Best iOS Music Player. Period.No-frills music player. Smooth UX. The ease of use of the "paths" feature takes the cake. Lightweight, unencumbered by bloated features found in many music players. The only thing missing is a dark mode..Version: 1.0.2

New way to organize your songsI like being able to group and sort songs. I use the Paths feature for viewing music differently, such as seeing all my favorite albums in one Path and seeing loved songs in another..Version: 1.0.1

Amazing, of course.I’ve been a Cs user for years and I’m still absolutely shocked whenever I (for a laugh) open the Apple Music app and see just how awful and ugly it really is in comparison. For this reason I bought SongOwl on release, and yes, it’s definitely worth 5 stars. I love the paths feature. As said in another review it took a little time to get to grips with but there are so many possibilities available, it will make managing large collections a lot easier and a lot more fun. Other than that I think it looks great, feels great and is more than worth the small price paid. There are just a couple of features that I’d like to see carried over from Cs - I have a large library and always found being able to scroll the artists by letter really useful. I also loved having albums divided into discs, as this made navigating through multi-disc box sets a lot easier. These are minor wishes though and all in all I’m extremely happy with SongOwl and look forward to seeing where future updates take us! Thank you for another amazing app. EDIT : see developer response re: being able to scroll by letter. The function is still there, I just hadn’t discovered it! SongOwl is now 6* for me..Version: 1.0.2

Great appI like the app a lot. It seems that the repeat function has been changed in one the recent updates. No matter what I do I end up having the repeat mode on every time I start a new playlist. It would be great if I could turn off the repeat once and for all. Thanks!.Version: 1.1.2

A Music app for music loversGreat design, sensible defaults and many ways to view your music library. This is the app that Apple should have built instead of the bloated monstrosity that is Apple Music..Version: 1.1.3

MoozikI still don't really understand this app, but I support everything from this developer just because. Cs is awesome :).Version: 1.0.2

So far so good mostlyAn improvement from Cesium. Developer needs to post link to bug reporting location..Version: 1.0.2

Great startThis makes hunting through a large library a lot of fun. Really like being able to save views. Paths are a fantastic idea and now I’ve got the hang of them I’m setting all sorts of them up. Will add the fifth star if/when a native iPad version comes out..Version: 1.0.1

SickLiterally just bought this app because of the sick update notes - keep me coming dude!.Version: 1.1.2

Why doesn't it show the album title? Now Playing doesn't show the album title. Too bad. Otherwise that screen is an upgrade over C's Music..Version: 1.0.1

Nearly thereAs a longtime Cs/Cesium user, i pulled the trigger on SongOwl without hesitation. and i LIKE it! still no chance for viewing or changing the queue, but that’s on Apple and their ridiculous rules. this is a simple, intuitive app and i feel like it’s a good path forward. that said, there are a couple features i might like to see. it would be nice if, in addition to the long press, one could get info on a track with a right swipe to expose the i button. it would also be nice if there was a way to advance to the next track when on the get info screen, rather than having to close the screen then long press on the next track. it would also be nice if i could set SongOwl to reopen at the last view. as it is, if it has to relaunch the app it defaults to the Library view. i have my music organised in playlists, so it would be nice if i could set it to open in the playlist view. if that makes sense? anyway, thanks for another fantastic music player! i’m looking forward to seeing where SongOwl and Cs go from here!.Version: 1.1.3

Great AppLoved C’s and am really loving this app as well. Far better than Music. Curious about the ability to reverse sort order. Year/Alphabetical as ascending vs descending. Not a deal breaker, still love and will use the app.....just curious if it’s in there and I don’t know how to do it..Version: 1.0.2

Great appBeing able to customize the sorting of my music to this level is great and something I’ve wanted Apple to do for a long time, I just wish I would have bought this sooner. I wasn’t sure I’d need this after using CS Music Player for so long but now this is my go to app for music, unless I need lyrics..Version: 1.0.6

Multi-tool alternative to Music.app for large librariesAs someone with a collection of 22,000+ songs in iTunes, SongOwl has quickly replaced both Music.app and Cs Music Player (from the same developer) for the same reasons I prefer the Column Browser in iTunes - speed and flexibility. I’ve been beta testing SongOwl for a couple months, and the reusable navigation paths and Favorites earned it a spot in my dock. Kudos to Mike Clay for realizing that Cs Music Player fills a niche, yet also finding an outlet in SongOwl for his different approach to music library navigation..Version: 1.0.1

Fantastic Music InterfaceCs Music player has long been my most used and cherished app on my phone and now the author has released a new app, Song Owl. This has the sleekest, most elegant and functional interface of any music player I’ve seen on the platform- I have a new most cherished app!.Version: 1.0.1

Sharing optionsTank for app . Please please add sharing option.Version: 1.0.3

Great organizational app.....I really like the way it looks and acts after it’s set up to my preferences. Since my library is somewhat disorganized, due to the way iTunes has separated my albums, this is helping me get them separated properly because of the way it shows album artwork and lets me see which albums some of the disorganized is supposed to be. Great job and I looking forward to the future with this. Also have Cs and love it but probably won’t open much anymore since this is available 😁.Version: 1.0.2

Been looking for this for yearsThe ability to sort within my playlists by Artist makes it so I can essentially make many smaller music libraries. This is so helpful I struggle to put it in words. Thank you for this app!.Version: 1.1.3

The new standardSongOwl does it for my music in a way no other music player can: I can browse, sort and save in as many different views (or paths, as SongOwl calls it) as I feel like. I also enjoy how easy and practical it is to set favorites from wherever I am in the app. I’ve been using it since its TestFlight inception, and it’s been a rock-solid and pleasant experience. If you like having absolute control over your music in a gorgeous and intelligible UI, don’t overlook this one..Version: 1.0.1

The best music playerSongOwl is a great way to re-discover your music library.Version: 1.0.1

Really clever appIf you spend about a half an hour getting a feel for what this app can do, you’ll be impressed. I guarantee it. App delivers a very clever way to sort through your music library and your playlists to get you to the music you want to hear quickly. And the paths you take to get there are saved and can be custom-named. I have a path that takes me from a genre to a list of artists to a list of their songs grouped by album. Want to see when the last time was that you played a track by Bon Jovi? Group songs by artist, sort them alphabetically, find Bon Jovi, and sort their songs by last played date. Most recent will be at the top. Reverse the sort order and you’ll probably find a Bon Jovi track you forgot was in your library at the top of the list. Using Sound Owl together with this dev’s outstanding Miximum app, a poor old Windows user like me may finally be able to ditch iTunes for PC to manage my Apple Music library. Five stars, absolutely..Version: 1.0.1

Looks good so far, please add iPad support!I think this is a great start, I am happy to buy this to support the great work you’re doing! Please add iPad support 🙂.Version: 1.0.1

Blows apple’s music player out of the waterSongowl is natural evolution of Cs Music Player. both of which are massive improvements over apple’s horrendous music app. apple needs to take some UI design lessons from Mike! i’ve been a beta tester for Cs for years and for songowl and there is nothing better out there!.Version: 1.0.1

Amazing alternative to stock Music appMike has a penchant for knowing what exactly needs to go into a music player app - Cs for the throwback to iOS 9 days, and now SongOwl for the next generation. Some enhancements I can envision for future builds: - Customizable Light/Dark theme (independent from system defaults) - Customizable “Now Playing” background color (the default ivory is easy on the eyes, but can see an option to customize it further) - Refinement and/or customization to Search, adding “Album Artist” as a category.Version: 1.0.1

Great!I like that Cs 6.0 wasn’t discontinued and continued on to this app. Any plans to add last.fm scrobbling?.Version: 1.1.2

Incredible start.Very customizable music player. Can listen to my library exactly the way I want to!!.Version: 1.0.1

Fixed my problem with Apple Music on iOS 14Apple broke Apple Music with iOS 14. This app fixes that! On iOS 13 I was able to shuffle songs from specific artists (including songs they were featured in). We are unable to do that on iOS 14. This app just saved Apple Music for me! Thank you so much! I would love a toggle for the Artwork-Themed player. I would love it to be just black like on iOS 13. Other than that I love this app! Great job!.Version: 1.1.3

Super music appSimply 1,000,000 times better than the stock music app - this keeps playlists in the proper order and makes it so easy to slice and dice the collection. Highly recommended.Version: 1.0.1

A solid upgradeThis is a solid upgrade from Cs5 and the Paths feature is ground breaking. It allows you to organise your library or any part of it and will remember the setting in the drawer. So I have a Path called 'Recents' which orders by album and lists by Date Added in reverse order. Hey Presto! the recent additions without the annoying Playlists shown by the Apple Music app. You can also save any Playlist as a Favourite. I am told that you can collect Paths from any subset of your library and the zero cost to create a Path encourages experimentation. I recommend this app as a practical alternative to the stock Music app..Version: 1.0.1

Best music appI have tried a number of music apps and this is the best. Much less crashes. I only wish I could delete songs directly from a playlist..Version: 1.1.3

Great Music App, needs 2 things to be perfectThis is a great Music app replacement. Simple, clean, intuitive, flexible. I’ve found only two things I wish it could do: 1) Deal with multi-artist compilation albums properly. I.e, for such albums, create a virtual artist labeled ‘Various’ that then fits into the album sort at the top of an alpha sort. JRiver and others take this approach and it works well. 2) Be able to Group Multidisc albums using the Disc# field, so the discs are clearly delineated when viewing an album grouping 3. Provide an in app ‘Contact Support’ link so issues/questions/feature requests don’t have to be left in a public review like this. Other than that, awesome!!.Version: 1.0.5

Nice idea - better tutorial would be greatBought this as I’m a fan of Cs music and the increased control over handling a fairly large music collection appealed. The interface is nice and the Paths, once you understand them, are a really powerful feature. However I confess I got fairly confused by the Paths at first, mainly because to set the hierarchical sorting you want, you have to drill down a layer into the hierarchy which isn’t actually obvious. E.g. if I want to sort by artist then by album release date, I have to sort the top-level grouping by artist, then tap on any artist name to get to the albums by that artist, and then sort those by album release date - this secondary sorting is then applied to your whole collection. Perhaps obvious to some but non-intuitive to me at first. Still, having figured it out I really like the approach and will be sticking with this as my default music player..Version: 1.0.1
